With the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition, we've been hearing a number of concerns from members of our PC community, including:

  • Driver support
  • Hitching and frame rate issues in cutscenes
  • Feedback on keyboard and mouse controls
  • General user interface optimizations for PC

by the way..."our PC Community"? you guys DONT have any other community....rely too much on xbox people who, when they get their first yawn in this game, will leave you in a heart beat to play Grand Theft Auto or the latest racing car title....

Has anyone else noticed how bad the companion AI is too? Especially Varric who is forever moving into melee range and I keep having to either switch characters to manually move him to a ranged position or have to use the pathetic tac cam to instruct him to move only for him to run back into melee again once I switch back to the main character and un-pause!

Also, which is related to this problem, what happened to the behaviour presets we saw in the tactic menus in the previous two games such as 'tank', 'scrapper', 'archer', etc?

I'm trying my damn hardest at the moment not to hit the 'request refund' button in Origin but it is getting more tempting to do so by the minute.

The main reason why I don't refund my game is the fact that I can see all the effort that went into this and the ideas and intent were great, problem is that these problems are overshadowing all of it right now but I believe they will be fixed due to all the attention it's getting. Not to mention the bad customer reviews because of these problems popping out all over the net that will get more attention.

The question is.. For how long will it continue and when will the fix come out?

Actually, BW should list what they are going to fix first, and ask our opinions about it so that they don't waste time fix unnecessary things while keeping high priority subject untouched. The list doesn't need to be exactly time-bound.

(1) Highest priority: fix important bugs and make the game playable. Oh and those who complain it is unplayable need to update drivers and redo the Keep data again first, and check DirectX11 support as well. I'm using sh!tty laptop with i7-3600M 2.1Ghz CPU and an integrated GPU and playing DA:I on HIGH, and it works fine.

I agree with this priority but mate, my PC blows yours completely out of the water and onto another planet and I have to play it on MEDIUM. I'm not whining at all, it's just that updating the drivers does nothing and even the simplest of performance monitors shows that system resources are not fully being used by the game, and I would say you fall into the minority. I trust the system monitoring over anecdotal evidence and it proves that there is something wrong and it is much more likely in my experience that most people just won't notice there is a problem. I'm the kind of person who loves game engines and only plays demos of games like Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4 just to see the technical achievement and benchtest it on my computer (because lets be frank - both those games are retarded).

I am not enraged or anything, I love the game, but the technical issues have to be fixed first because it's getting in the way of me committing to my first playthrough and on a good game that's kinda sacrosanct. I don't want to be monitoring performance, I just want to play the game. I am sure it will be resolved, but my point is:

The intent of your post is great. However, only some degree of reporting based on system monitoring is helpful. I wish I knew where I could provide detailed logs for the developers but it sounds like that they are quite aware of the problem. I highly doubt it is just a Nvidia/driver issue because performance is significantly impaired on AMD cards as well. This game runs slower than The Witcher 2 and that is saying something. If I can run BF4 on ultra and observe that the system is being fully utilised then it is a fair customer expectation for another game from the same publisher using the same engine to also do so, especially when it's confirmed that the resources are not being used.

Hello

Despite it's flaws i'm enjoying the game thus far. However i would ask a question, which surely many people have on their mind.

Why was it decided to change the PC controls of DAI in such a drastic way, compared to it's predecessors?

I would be grateful for an answer.

Thank you

That's great that you are addressing 4 issues, what about ALL the others?

1.HORRIBLE AI?  what is with the lack of ability to customize the tactics.. like you could in the other 2 games.
I have to turn off basically all abilities for my characters so they stop wasting them.

2. Is it just me or does the individual party members interact with each other much much less?  I don't really care about any of these characters like I did in the first 2 games.  Right now they are just walking spell books.

3. Looting... so you added the ability to loot quite a few things, a lot more resources and chests etc...  so why did you also add in a horrible looting system?   I have been forcing my self to play this unfinished game just for the story, and I swear 20% of the game play has been trying to loot.

There is quite a bit more and I would post them If I thought anyone from Bioware would actually look into it.  Better yet respond with virtually no information other than "they are aware".  Right now I am AWARE this game was rushed.

I am really just venting here, I am highly disappointed in Bioware, I know you guys are under the worst gaming company now, but push back a little harder.  Because it really seems that a couple things have happened.

1. The people who made Bioware so good are now gone, or just don't care anymore.

2. EA has their hand so far up your *** that you can't actually make the game properly.

3. You spent the last 4 years trying to make the game look good, and about 1 week on everything else.
**** Replicating the play style of Dragon Age 1, or even Dragon Age 2 with the Dragon Age 1 tactical view added in would have been much better than this awful gameplay.****

4. Of the concerns from Dragon Age 1 and Dragon Age 2, it feels like BioWare listened to what people said.. and figured,
"Hey, they didn't enjoy these few aspects of the game... let's change EVERYTHING."

5. Ok, wall of text....  I quit.

Please fix this game PLAY.  95% of my issues with this game is the game play(controls and whatnot) and not the actual game itself.. please fix this so I can enjoy a game I clearly overpaid for.

I would love to play normal and higher difficulty instead of casual due to bad keyboard and mouse controls along with the bad AI management.

well where to begin....

1- all of you know by now that game sucks on pc.Controller issues waiting for patch let me think reviewers and whole bioware team didnt tested game for pc players. Also even highend monster pc's having issues of low fps rates made me believe they didnt give a **** about testing or optimizing game.Game crashes man game crashes.

2-So called tactical cam is not working.the idea that you zoom out and see battle field clearly has gone to a new level that only shows limited area of party members.Navigating tru this view and issue commands are real pain in the ass.And at this point there is no sense having party members since you cannot control them and build a strategy. They are like autopiloted zombies.(dont mentions behaviors and tactics.it had more dept in origins)

3-Game feels like it was build for only console. The way you play it, is like an diablowise button smasher action slash game.Bioware improved combat speed in da2 in a more action game but in inquisition they gone too far.if you gonna make it that way why the hell i need companions.Like witcher it could be one man game and bunch of friends to talk with.

4-Consequenses of combat style effected skill threes ofcourse.i started with mage. After an examination you get the idea of 'hey they almost the same in a way'.how?do %x more dmg and do more %x dmg.A few booster passives obiviously needed for keep you ongoing for longer combat. Skill threes consist of 3 or less active abilities that let me think ,'if you gonna play it in console you dont have enough keys to use those abilities so we must limit it' said the dev team.maybe just my imagination.

5-why the hell varrick lvl 1?? (loaded world state yes)

6-story so far not a shocking aspect as well 'lets save the world,i am the chosen one' scenario

7-You may remember witchers madalion that lets you see loot around area.Well bioware implanted it as well maybe with good intentions but after a couple minutes i find myself constantly hitting 'v' key to see whats around me.pressing tab key why i needed had done its job since.why change it?

8-inventory desing yet again a design for console and i remember skyrim had similiar inventory that everybody hated.

9-Character creation ok maybe a lot features to build but those hair styles oh god! beiber hair haha.ok respect but when game showed me a lady hair style for my hero i was kind of shocked.Anyway when you try to customize your looks, your face your nose etc. you cannot rotate cam to see how its looking from sides or front.you have go to top menu rotate it see it and go to proper tool adjust it go back rotate see and again and again.

10-Ranged party members, mage, archer, are trying get close to monsters and give them a hug.Should not be otherwise?

11-rock paper scissor stragety gone.it was core fundamental of baldurs gate series.

12- Again, why any of reviewers didnt played this **** with pc?

13-i am waiting pillars of eternity!!! Bioware i am done with you da2,ME and this?way to much to leech of your credit.farewell.

I work as a salesman in an electronics shop that also sales games for consoles and PC, I will definitely pass on my new found knowledge forward, while I cant return my retail bought game, I do plan to do my part on pushing Bioware to correct itself.

As funny as it sounds, did anyone on BioWaren team even played and tested the PC version before it was released at all?

I can't shake a feeling that the port from console version was made very hastly and there simply was not time before premiere to test it at all.

Or fix it even if testers knew bugs existed, cause any tester would quickly experience the bugs and horrible UI combination for PC players,.

It's a bit sad thing to see this is my first post posted here after buying and playing mostly all BioWare related RPG PC games from around Baldur's Gate time and enjoying them greatly.

But in DAI case as such version we were given as PC customers at start of our journey is really quite an insult which makes ME3 lack of proper ending in initial version a godly version compared to this.

It's sad that we as PC gamers are at the bottom here compared to console players.

And another reason why we should stop buying games so quickly, just wait few months till proper version of the fixed game would become presentable and pay for it even less than in time of release or preorders.

I played the game yesterday, on EU launch, for about three hours. About half of that time was spend in the character creation process, definitely the most fun part of my experience (the face customization is amazing). After that… the experience was an exercise in patience. The kb+mouse interaction was atrocious. I usually find forum user comments hyperbolic but in this case I have to agree that the experience was inexcusable for a game of such budget and caliber.

Anyway after three hours I got so fed up that I quit the game and asked for a refund. (On the plus side the refund was issued immediately).

This is the first time ever in my gaming years that I have experienced something so infuriatingly bad to the extent that I was unable to continue playing and not be able to have fun.

I strongly believe that consumers only vote with their wallets. Fora and such are useful but ultimately money talks. So I refuse to pay premium (and prepay) for something with such obvious disregard to the PC customer. If and when it's fixed I'll buy it again depending on user comments.

As far as I am concerned though Bioware has lost all pre-order privileges...

Respectfully

The only way I have found to fix this is to repair the game which takes for EVER! Im not happy with this and i want a fix so i can actually play without having to repair the game!

and did i mention you cannot name your save games?

why?

because reason is obious you never do that in consoles yey!

So, after some time sunk in this game, i really. Yes i really try to master this PC UI controls. But they are not so easy to handle like in DA:O

The party KI is horrible. Why? the Path find routine are hillerous. "Assemble at Me!" - Missing! . My members clips trough boulders or stone, as if they are not there. If the Line of Fire is blocked, my Mage run into Melee range. He forgotten to stay in long range attack

Serious, the Party AI need more tweaking.

And the PC UI Fonts, they dont saw any love. Dont they? Give us a bit more "fantasy" Style fonts. Not just System Fonts placeholders

You guys wanted to copy to much the Skyrim UI, that your B in BioWare changed into B for Bethesda. Is your Companysoul still BioWare or are you just underlings of Bethesda Studios now?. Where did your touch for PC Games gone?

Please, give us selection of PC Gamers Profiles with Controls like DA:0 (Camera and such) or direct Control Game-pad (and i bet your favorite Xbox360 pad)

And can you give me a good story wise reason, why the Mages forgotten the healing magic over these years? i can not think of a reason for that, and i have a lively Fantasy mind. At last give us the ability to create Healing Potions outside the battles. Not every time, when i run low on Potions. I want to Jump to the Camp to create new ones. Or give us a mobile Alchemy Kit stored in some Mule, you need to buy or gain through a Quest line. You could use the Old Healer School Mage Wynne from DA:O as "CEO" of some Mage Tower, specialized in Healing or such. Or her pupil as succesor

i Missing a Text Feedback of Quicksave or Quickload.

If i try to summary my Words into short Story:

You gave us PC Players a Nice Car, wonderful design and such. But you forgotten the Motorbike Controls in this Car. Please give us a rational Wheel Controls. Like we used to

Thanks for the update. I'm actually doing better than a lot of people commenting here, thanks to a well-built gaming machine and making sure drivers and DirectX were updated before I installed. Once it loads, the game is smooth, beautiful and (thus far) prefectly stable on Win7. I find the characters engaging and the writing excellent as always. But the UI is driving me nuts, even after reconfiguring the keyboard controls to make more sense to me. I won't repeat what others have said, other than to say that my hands, too, are painful after just two evenings of gameplay, and the lack of decent mouse control makes combat almost certain death because I have to keep stopping to think "wait, how do I move???" At this point, I'm sticking to wandering around Haven talking to everyone, reading all the books and looting anything I can get my hands on.

I'm also puzzled by what seem to be DA-style leveling-up arrows that appear in my party's icons, with no apparent way for me to activate them to arrange specs, etc.

Mouse navigation/selection/activation is such an inherent part of PC design that I'm puzzled why it got such short shrift in the design. It's great that the console players got a better gaming experience, but not all of us use (or want to use) consoles; a prompt fix for this problem would be greatly appreciated.

This is a really interesting thread.  I wonder what the behind the scenes conversations were about this kind of stuff before launch.  Bioware had to know that there was going to be a lot of blow-back from PC users about the interface, because it's not optimized much for PC at all, it's mostly a console interface with a few adjustments around the edges.  Did they run out of time to make a real PC interface, or was there external pressure to make it this way, or is it a Frostbite issue?  Maybe one of these days we'll find out.

That being said, I finally got the game yesterday (on Xbox One), and played it for 12 hours straight.  It really is a great and well thought out (and massive) game underneath the UI, and hopefully everyone will get a chance to play it the way they want to.

Well, I bought my copy off Origin, and it doesn't look like I can return it due to the policy. The lack of control implementation is the worst I've seen in a game for some time. After the fiasco with Battlefield 4, and now this...it's like .give us your money, and maybe we'll fix it. I've written Dice off as a company I will no longer be purchasing from. Bioware will be the next one I write off. If you're going to charge a customer a decent amount of money, then that product, regardless of what platform you're releasing it on should function properly. I realize that the console's take preference in today's climate, but if you're going to charge me money, then release a product that is going to work, not this garbage. There is really no excuse for this, it's just a total lack of "who gives a crap" attitude regarding the PC culture, the very culture that helped Bioware get to where they are now......thanks for nothing.

I think I invested about 200 hours into Dragon Age: origins and about 60 hours into Dragon Age 2, seems like I was one of the few how kinda liked the game. And I was prepared to preorder this game, because I was so hyped to play it. I didn't have such a feeling since the release of Warcraft 3. However I did not do it, because I remembered that only every 5th game in these times that is released is a polished and finished product, like it used to be (speaking only about the game from the big publishers).

And after reading the user reviews, watching gameplays on twitch and looking through this forum it seems my foreboding was right. I really really hope that you take this seriously and patch, or correct the stuff the community mentioned, because as it seems you really didn't play this game at all on keyboard and mouse.

As for the community thank you guys, because you held me back from a lot of frustration, hopefully I can soon enjoy the game.

With the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition, we've been hearing a number of concerns from members of our PC community, including:

  • Driver support
  • Hitching and frame rate issues in cutscenes
  • Feedback on keyboard and mouse controls
  • General user interface optimizations for PC

We've been following these issues closely and are looking into them.

Player experience is a top priority for us. Our goal is to address as many of these as possible in our upcoming patches, including some in our next patch, which is underway. We’ll release further details in the coming days and will continue to monitor your concerns.

Your feedback is important to us, and we appreciate your contribution to making Dragon Age: Inquisition a better overall experience.

Why has there not been an update on this?  This is one of the most active threads on your forums.  You mislead your PC customers and shipped a bad console port early.  What specifically are you working on to remedy this and when can we expect action?

I really, really wish we could get back just even a small list of if, then tactics tweaks. I was really thinking we were going to have them, and I specced Blackwall as my second warrior to cover Cass's back. I gave him that grabbing chain ability with the idea that I'd use his tactics to have him use it to pull stragglers off my mage or archer or grab ranged attackers and pull them into the scrum ... yeah, not so much. He immediately opens with it every. single. time.

Seems like a recurring theme. Games rushed to market.

Clearly this game wasn't finished.

The gameplay wasn't tested. This is obvious. I think this is the first time in my 45 years that I have ever been defeated by a games movement and combat controls.

The AI options appear to have been completely removed. I just can't believe the designers intended to REMOVE AI scripting. I'm going to assume it was an item that they were going to work on at the end and at the end they had no time. Other than laziness, there simply isn't a reason to have removed this feature.

I still don't understand the removal of health spells. All sorts of things removed, once again, probably just to wrap up the game for delivery.

The Tactical Monstosity also proves they simply did not care about releasing a polished game. They had a release date and they met it.

The games looks great but the movement, AI, tactical camera and loot system make it unplayable for me. Shame because a lot of time and effort went into the game but they chefs weren't given enough time to finish cooking the meal.

I tried running varric and sera today for a ranged party I would run these type of sniper groups in origins and da 2 it wasnt happening they kept getting beat down by bears in hinterlands it was comedy 2 archers point blanking game in the face.
