after reading the user reviews, watching gameplays on twitch and looking through this forum it seems my foreboding was right. I really really hope that you take this seriously and patch, or correct the stuff the community mentioned, because as it seems you really didn't play this game at all on keyboard and mouse.

As for the community thank you guys, because you held me back from a lot of frustration, hopefully I can soon enjoy the game.

Well,  even WITH the horrid kybd/mouse interface and  Dreadful camera/tac.. the game IS playable. Proper re-binding of keys is a MUST.  I'm about 10 hours in, and for the most part, I find that I drop into pause instead of tactical (not like it is good at remembering or queuing action lists), and knowing that you really need to move the view cam to weird angles to hit all the points (again, worst is with rift closure/interruption sweet spots)  you know.. the camera action is VERY reminiscent of Myth: the fallen lords, now that I think on it. Just as bad back in the 90's, despite it being revolutionary then...  But it's a huge world, with lots of decisions that I hope have repercussions (beyond choose-your-side-crap, which I disagree with.)... but only time will tell.

Yes. Thanks for listening. The PC controls are horrid to say the least. I am happy that you guys are looking into this.

The Game is almost unplayable with the current PC keyboard and mouse set up. The Tac Camera, no auto attack, etc.The controls for Dragon Age Origins would be great on this game.... Im glad bioware is looking into this and hopefully fix it soon.

I was so excited about this game that I waited up for it. At the moment I'm so disappointed I don't even care if it gets fixed - I've spent more time recovering from crashes than I have actually playing, and my system does meet the minimum requirements.

Playing the game is actually stressful (but I probably have PTSD from when I got DA2 the same week my gfx card melted...) and not fun at all.

A BioWare game should be finished at launch. There shouldn't be any of this nonsense that we're seeing now - I said on Tumblr that this feels like an MMO launch - "Oh, look, we have a shiny new bug collection' but then I remembered that I bought GW2 at launch and the game has crashed exactly four times since then, so...

ETA: and the tactical camera is a MASSIVE disappointment. What were you thinking, BioWare?

Can I also add that this PC-UI and choppy unfriendliness is the ultimate in WTF? when you consider that AMD/Radeon currently have an Inquisition/PC vid card AMD-only DLC-for-you promotion on right now?

http://www.amd.com/en-us

I mean... seriously.

And if you go on the Nvidia site,  it advertises that the GeForce GTX 650 Ti  can specifically run Dragon Age: Inquisition.    So why do I keep getting:  " Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti gpu does not support DirectX 10.0 which is required.  I have DIRECT X 11 which "should" be backwards compatible...

Annoying got into the game briefly last night after fighting with it for a couple hours.   Tried the "run as admin" today which worked for about ten minutes last night,  now I am back to the same old error message:   It doesn't like direct x 11,  it wants direct x 10.

I shouldn't have to tear my hair out replacing drivers, standing on my head, waving magic wands, speaking in tongues!! to make this game work.......fix it for God's sake.

The majority of the bad Directx calls seem fixed to make the game playable, but still getting random errors that indicate a design time issue needs to be resolved due to badly formed foundation level calls.  I no longer see incorrect video reconfiguration errors and that seemed to be the worst of the initial problems as the crashes are not as severe or as often -I'm sure the over stressed silicon would thank you if possible.

And yet PC games still earn more money than console games, this does tell us PC is still the number 1 revenue generator instead of consoles. Also M$ earn billion of dollars from windows which is their main cash cow.

See my original post where I said "because F2P and MOBA"

*sigh*

After playing the game for a few hours last night, I decided not to ask for a refund. After playing it for a few more tonight it is now too late. Oh well, I can stomach the loss.

Now, it does feel like there's a very good game underneath all the gunk - and it even runs reasonably well on my not-quite-state-of-the-art PC, but whether or not a proper fix for the control issues emerges will decide if this is my last Bioware game. As it is, it's frustrating to play without a controller, and imagining playing it on a controller in the arcade mode is like playing a fantasy FPS - which is most certainly not what I want from a DA game. What is certain is that this is last BW game I buy within a month of release - and the end of any trust in pre-release game reviews.

I blame Morrigan. And the early reviews. But mostly Morrigan.

To the PC controls... What more is there to say, than: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"?  Like we've all said, they were fine in DA:O and DA2.  Oh wait... you never actually implemented PC-based controls?  You more-or-less just "copied/pasted" console controls into the PC version (all the while, preaching to us PC gamers, saying: "We're still looking out for you guys")?  No key/mouse-button re-mapping?  Well, that does suck, but it's not a deal-breaker.  The new "Search" via key-press vs. "highlighted" bags/objects?  A little annoying, but again, not gonna bust it all up for me.   BUT... Combat in the game is horrible -- borderline broken -- with the KB+M controls the way they are now!

Plug in a controller you say?  Uh... Two reasons why that ain't gonna happen:

  1. I don't own one, and I'm not about to go drop $40 - $50 more just to play this game, and more importantly
  2. I bought it on the PC for a reason... I PREFER this interface!

We're the villagers in "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"... We hear your "pledges" and "assurances" and we repeatedly "come running" with our fists full of cash, ready to hand it over... only to be let down once again.  OK, OK... maybe a little over-the-top in the analogy there, but it just sucks, because everything else about this game just screams, "It's gonna be fantastic!"  Truth be told, I'd probably admire you guys (BioWare) a lot more if you'd quit being politicians, and just be frank with us... Tell us that you're a console-first company now, and admit that the PC ports take a back-seat.  Yeah, I know... be realistic.  It's ultimately about the dollar.

What happened to the good ol' days of "downloadable demos"?  Would have been nice to try it out and realize these issues existed beforehand.  That would have stopped me from dropping my hard-earned $$$ on this game... at least until the K+M issues were resolved. (Was there even a Beta?  If so, it was either pretty dang limited, or the PC Beta tester's feedback on this front had to have been completely ignored!)

</passive-aggressive rant>

BioWare: We bought the game because we love your titles (and for some unknown reason, even after that rant, my faith in you guys hasn't been COMPLETELY shattered).  Do us a solid and address these issues, PLEASE!

While I also appreciate a Bioware person finally saying something, I have to agree. If anyone--anyone in the development team with any PC RPG gaming experience had bothered to play with KB&M they would have immediately gone... "well, this is Not Good, guys, we need to fix this."

No autoattack? No click, mouse, character walks to loot? No full no-pause party support, even on "easy" and "normal"? No player-directed mouse binds? C'mon. It's not like you guys are new at this.

The fact that no streams using K&M were shown (and that the first people to get the game to play were console players) leads me to believe 1 of 2 things: someone did, said exactly that, and its clunkiness was deliberately hidden, or, 2, that no-one bothered. DA:O and DA2 were perfectly good PC-played games, and Bio should know better. I can play DA:O for hours and lose all the time in it (I've lost count of how many play throughs!) and yet after an hour of playing DA:I my hands were so sore I stopped.

I could put DA2 on "easy" and never ever pause and just sit back and enjoy the interactive combat. DA:O the only time I put it lower than normal was in the Fade (because it went faster! hehe). Telling us that we will have "fast and interactive combat with choice on PC" is not what is happening with K&M. Dying on the tutorial boss in normal multiple times because the interface is clunky and you can't even see the clicky hand on the rift when you have a gaming laptop in tactical? Priceless.

I expect so much better--and I, like others, would like to know specifics before the refund window closes, because as it stands now, I cannot play (and I am not going to buy a framming controller to play on my PC. "Controller support" =/= "must buy a controller", and should not).

Combined with the choppy play on a well-over-spec rig that runs other load-heavy games perfectly fine (loading takes SEVEN of RAM? Really?) and this is unacceptable, sorry.

I have never, EVER complained about a DA game in any bioware forum before. I've never felt the need. I expected it to be the same this time. Bugs, I expect. This sort of mislead? I do not. From EA, yes. From Bioware, no.

I really don't want to return the game if this will be fixed. I want to play your beautiful game! I want to complete my collection of blond-haired, brown-eyed boys! But, I am also leery of losing my AU$90 (thanks for the Australia tax, btw, guys), so I really need to know before that refund window closes. Please.

My thoughts exactly.  Thank you for summing them up so well.  Holding down R...spamming V for the silly sonar...   horrid.   Who makes these kind of decisions?

Is there a patch out...if so where is it, please.    I would like to at least get my money's worth and be able to play,  after tinkering with the game for most of the day yesterday,    installing uninstalling vid drivers, and basically standing on my head to try to make it work.    If there is a patch addressing the Direct X errors,  that information needs to be front and center on this site.     I run a Win 7 64 bit OS,  with 8 cores and a Geforce GTX 650 Ti (direct x 11)    seems this game doesn't like direct x 11...it wants 10 and won't let me in.

How can this issues even exist in the first place?! There was streams, testing, Q&A, bug fixes! And all the stuff developers usually do. How? Why? More time were taken to make game better. And here we are, as always. All aboard the hype train! Choo-Choo muthafucka. What the hell BioWare? Instead of those streams and contests you could spend more time with DEVELOPMENT. Or make a demo, and get some bugfixing based in that demo. But no it was all about "our game is awesome, go get it!" This one requires tons of FREE DLC`s, not "other half of the game" DLC's for 60+ bucks like EA and you guys like it, to atone this "awesome" start. Siriously. I haven't bought a game this big in a few years and had big hopes on it, still have. But please, make a game that is worth the price and marketing campaign. Or you gonna lose this costumer, and many others.

I feel pretty obnoxious, having read your posts... You can't even get the game to run, and I'm whining about the controls!  To be honest, maybe its a good thing you CAN'T get it to run... You'll have to deal with what we've all been griping about!

Annoying stuff:

1. "klick on loot --> DAMNIT WALK OVER THERE AND PICK IT UP!"

2. Just give the option to highlight loot. the Sonar was annoying in "The Witcher", its not better in DA:I. Its even worse, since its reach is lower.

3. Please autoattack, even out of tactical view.

4. zoom out farther than the ceiling (like in DA:O)

OR: make the game moddable, usually the Playerbase gets a better job done when it comes to Interfaces (wich actually is pretty sad, considering the amount of time and money that go into making a game like this).

Don't know if this was mentioned, but the NVIDIA GTX 980 still has graphical studders in some areas even after the recent driver. It's much better after NVIDIA released the driver, but it's still present in some areas. Other than that, I have absolutely no issues with PC :)

The game won't even start on my PC.

A Bioware logo appears, some text explaining about the save icon follows and then music starts...then stops (at the same note every time) and freezes as a black screen.

So far, over 345 people have had this same problem on the EA help forum and there has been one offer of a possible solution (which did not work) from an EA community manager. I can't even start the game. I was really looking forward to playing it but currently this game is not fit for purpose.

I would like to know if this issue is also being considered as part of the patch coming soon.

I am a sad panda.

No kidding! The graphics look great and the storyline is off to a good start and I look forward to playing. It's too bad I'll never get to experience all that simply because the PC controls are so terrible!

It's a shame so much hard work by the Bioware team was ruined by this control scheme and the only response from them to date is "We're looking into it."

Definitely a black-eye to a company that once had a great reputation to PC gamers.

Is this even true?  I don't see PC market anywhere near as large as the console.  I haven't looked up the sales of console vs PC games in past couple of years but my money is on console sales a lot more copies than PC.  PC sales a lot of video games via steam but that's after they have been out awhile and steam pops them on sale for 75% off... I mean who could deny that deal?! lol

I googled it! You're completely right, PC is rising in sales and passing console... wow.

And yet PC games still earn more money than console games, this does tell us PC is still the number 1 revenue generator instead of consoles. Also M$ earn billion of dollars from windows which is their main cash cow.

So, according to that picture, only 11% of devs work on bone/ps4 titles? I think not. 5% Wii U does sound about right though lol. You also have to take into account "indie" developers skewing the numbers. All those crappy flash games on steam? Those count as "indie" and those are "developers." "Real" developers do not prefer the PC market because they have less control over it than with consoles. $ony and Micro$oft also have very deep pockets and pay devs quite well to stick around. And, as we all know, money is all that matters.

Edit:

Let's not forget that it's also infinitely easier (read: lazy, less time, lower labor costs, money) to develop for consoles, with their static hardware configurations over 8-10 years than for the PC market where a new CPU/GPU drops about every 12 weeks. Not to mention you need DirectX, Microsoft C++ redist, some kind of obligatory always-on destroy-the-experience-for-the-legitimate-players-but-doesn't-actually-work anti-piracy DRM, endless hardware/driver configurations, people with toasters who complain that they can't run your game and that's somehow your fault, the problems go on and on. Again, not saying it's right that everything is all "consolized," just saying it's true.

Real quickly, the fault right there ^^ lies with newer pc gamers who don't know enough about what they are buying/building but want to play these new PC games the way they want to.  It's a constant learning curve, and a majority of them just give up in the middle of the process, and almost always end up frustrated, on forums ultimately condemning pc's and praising the ease of use of consoles because they "just work" (which isn't remotely true either)

Vicious circle.

I've been around long enough to say that I was born a PC gamer and remain one at heart, even though I've developed for console for many years too - as well as PC of course.

This issue is a complex one and for fear of TLDR I couldn't possibly explain all (my views) the detail without sending everyone to sleep in the process  For some years, anyone around game development know that the root cause for PC decline and Console rise in sales - lies definitely with the Publishers. Unless you're lucky enough to have had IP that has made your studio incredibly profitable, many devs rely on Publishers for the development capital of their games. Even then as we see, successful IP still sometimes need the financial resource that Publishers provide, they're essentially the VC's of the game industry. Remember that the likes of CD Projekt are rare beasts.

I could recount numerous stories and ridiculous reasons that publishers use to have not supported PC Sku's. Mostly it comes down to money, as (most) devs don't see PC has any less value as a platform than console but publishers expect they should get that platform for free. Why? Well ALL games are developed in a PC environment, and the code compiled and tested on PC long before its in a fit state to see the code progressed enough to see it in a playable state on dev kits. So I guess they think its easier and little cost to deliver the PC version, well they're publishers I guess not developers. What didn't help - to some extent - was the cell structure of the PS3 environment, which is far removed from PC architecture and so specific coding techniques are required, this made development generally more costly with last gen. I think the real reason is more to do with the individuals backgrounds and its just easier with a particular mindset to promote console than PC. Its true - IMHO - PC gamers (generalisation) are more technically inclined (please don't flame me) or at least willing to put the time in to get the most out of the games they play and dare I say more discerning and consequently YES we're all harder to please :P PC gamers expect value because they've already invested large sums of hard earned cash.

While PC sales have increased, I think that volume per product is more spread than say AAA console titles and that has been a negative for console focused publishers but that's because largely they haven't marketed correctly either. Excluding product from platforms is a form of separatism too. For my part I refuse to purchase that product from company's that do this, Everyone should have access to all deals at launch. I don't think this is naive either as I also think that launch exclusive deals is more damaging to their brands than they realise. Now that said, I do think the tide is turning, the wave and impetus (return) for more PC gaming maybe occurring and the shift to a more PC like architecture for current PlayStation may be helping. Funnily enough I think console gaming may have assisted bringing this about, well certainly a rise in more technology savvy people too. Its going to be a rough ride for those publishers though - yeah you know who you are - because they'll have to pay closer attention and respect to this demographic. It could be though, that publishers might just like a slice of that PC pie!  :D

Well I tried to keep it brief and apologies if I went slightly off topic haha

Well, now that I've calmed down a bit and received my refund...I want to thank Mark Darrah and the team for responding so quickly and looking into this.

My primary concern is with point and click gameplay. I would like to see it implemented in DAI if possible. I need clarification and confirmation that the removal of point and click gameplay is a permanent design choice. If I can't point and click to move/interact, I can't play Dragon Age on the PC anymore.

So, to the team, thank you for looking into these issues, and I am certain I'll love it when I play it.
