fellow PCers, has anyone else already got annoyed not only with Dragon Age, but plenty of other games made for consoles and PC, when developers clearly made loading screens thinking of CONSOLE players, and on the PC loading screens sometime load so fast you don´t have time to read useful tips and infos?

So the left hand that is already at the wasd buttons is not good enough for 2-3 more keys a bit to the left or right?
What if you have only one hand? There are a lot of people out there, you know.

There was a day one patch when the game got out.
If I'm not mistaken, it was for consoles only.

Mate, try to buy it and play with a gaming mouse. It's useless to explain if you never tried it and used gamepad instead.
Games don't cause overheating. Games CAN'T cause overheating. Poor cooling causes overheating. Games can only push your hardware as much as it has been designed to be pushed, and not more.
Sort out your hardware issues instead of blaming it on the game.
Bad gpu drivers can though. Especially BETA drivers. Talking about ati beta drivers for DAI, eh?

Related to my above post, I didn't even know this was a thing in DA:O until this thread, and I actually had to boot DA:O up to check because I basically didn't believe it.
I get it now. From the way other people were describing it they wanted to hold down different keys so I didn't get it but yours makes more sense.
Similarly I find it hard to believe anyone could play through both DAO and DA2 using only WASD. Sure you could play that way if you wanted. It was always an option. But as soon as I realized the convenience of mouse navigation, I literally never touched those controls again. There was no reason to.I didn't say anything about the weird way they handled looting with this UI - I mean, it's a bad UI. I just didn't get the hold-a-mouse-button-to-move thing that's seemingly so popular here.
I actually just finished replaying both Origins+Awakenings, and then DA2 plus all the DLC this fall in anticipation of DAI, and never touched WASD once.
This is an example of the overlapping controls that Bioware (the old Bioware) put into the previous games. Of the choice that was provided the PC player in how he wanted to play the game. And again, without even bringing up the disabled gamer angle for people who have trouble with WASD, the fact that choices like this weren't in the game from day 1 tells me the people who had the creative ingenuity to come up with things like those overlapping control schemes are just not working at Bioware anymore. Which is a shame.

LOLWhy would anyone need to use their mouse buttons?
Oh wait, he's not joking?

No, he was serious. He's saying why would you need your mouse when your fingers are already on the WASD keys and you can just use the nearby keys (Q, E, R, F, etc.) instead.
The short; console gamers buy gamepads with interesting designs/features. PC gamers buy mice with interesting designs/features. Saying 'why do you need your mouse buttons' is like me asking you 'why don't you play using an NES controller?'

Also, why does the loading screen cut out half way through and turn into a blank one for just as long ? I'm guessing people with SSD's hardly have time to read any of them.

You know what I find ironically amusing while reading through this thread? I actually don't like using mouse and keyboard controls, but for whatever reason the game won't recognise my 360 controller so I'm stuck using them. I'm actually awaiting the patch so I can use the controller instead, lol.

So, can someone with a gaming mouse please tell me what functions you mapped to which buttons and how you are finding the experience?
It would be hard to tell because you can't do it in DAI, so we'd have to guess what would be the best option.
For example, in skyrim I put on additional mouse buttons spells and shouts. In DAO it was that button that shows you interactive objects and pause.

I still have a very basic mouse. If I had a gaming mouse like the Naga Razor could I program DA: I actions into it that would make the PC controls more convenient? Or is there an actual barrier to functionality in place? (i.e., "you can't get there from here.")
I have a gaming mousse with 13+ buttons and I have remapped (through macros) some skill slots to be able to use them with the mousse buttons. I also tried some simple macro that would make the attack command goes for an infinite time when I press a button and stop when I press again. Sort of an auto attack, but as we can't really move while attacking, its kinda unpractical as a melee but It's a little bit more usefull for mage / archer though.

Did you go into the option menus and switch the controller method from 'M+KB' to 'Gamepad'?

Yea, they somehow *forgot* to allow us to map to our 4th, 5th, and scroll wheel buttons in DAI. Something that games have been doing for over a decade, without requiring you to use outside software or macro's.
But yea, DarkTI has it right. The 4th and 5th (or thumb buttons) have always been perfect for 2ndry functions like the 'highlight' interactive objects (such as loot), as well as additional buttons like Select All, or even Pause, if you didn't want to use the Space Bar.
Once they fix this in DAI, I intend to use Jump for one of the thumb buttons, if possible.

See, that kind of thing would not even be needed if they just took some time to program the damn control scheme.I have a gaming mousse with 13+ buttons and I have remapped (through macros) some skill slots to be able to use them with the mousse buttons. Thank you, @Wildspirit and @DarkTI. Those answers helped me.
no worries, but keep in mind that it's not perfect... without proper combat system with good mousse and keyboard optimization, it's just make do. I also have a logitech G13 that helps a lot for movements and not make my hand hurt.. But still, this is a pretty shitty combat system overall that was made for console... so nothing much to do to enjoy it fully on PC...

Keep in mind though that if your gamepad won't work with the game, you won't be able to do anything at all after that. Because that option disables M+KB completely.
GOTY indeed.

From the Mark Darrah twitter feed:
I realize that many of you are looking for clarity on the 1st patch. The goal was Dec. 9. We will be missing that on most platforms.
There are complexities to patching #DAI. Unfortunately this compressed the 1st patch to the point of slipping. There will be more patches.
There are complexities.
Not liking the whole Frostbite engine results at the moment.
I guess now everyone will have to hope this engine works out longterm. Certainly it has made a healthy profit so far, but the issues would probably have been avoided if they had used a more established/homegrown engine specifically for the next few Dragon Age games.

What is weird for me is that the WASD PC controls are near the same between Origins and Inquisition. Move with WASD, hold down the right mouse button to move the camera with the mouse.
So why did they neglect the moving with the mouse buttons option? I could put up with the other changes the game has made if I just had that back.

That is by design. Plan better next time.
