Can we please remember that whilst yes, some of the faults in the game (controls, tactical cam limitations) are NOT gamebreaking issues? If they are then you need to really re-evaluate yourself as a gamer.

Interesting.  I had no idea there were standards as a "gamer" that one should aspire to meet, as if "gamer" was some sort of job occupation.  Weirdly, I had this idea that it was all about deriving as much enjoyment as possible from the challenges presented by the story, ideally without being distracted by challenges presented by the controls.  Lesson learned; I now consider myself to be edumacated.

No auto-attack? I hope I read that wrong because that is a damn joke if true.

I'm annoyed in the opening that I can't move my character by holding down the left and right mouse button, as in the previous two games, that I'm going to have to hammer a button on my PC to attack is as bad as when they 'forgot' to put auto-attack into the console versions of Dragon Age II.

It controls like a standard console third-person game, not an MMO or classic CRPG.

So do you use the W A S D keys to move around then?

Something more than the token "We're looking into it" would be appreciated! I think they at least owe this community an uncanned reply that is actually informative.

The beta driver has not reduced DX-related crashes.

The crashes during the initial sequence of cut scenes would be considerably less aggravating if you'd thought to include an autosave at the completion of character creation. I've lost my last two characters because the game crashed during the sequence of cutscences before you gain full control of your character. CTDs are always annoying, but ones that require you to redo character creation because you had no opportunity to save are infuriating..

Good to hear, but it seems like these should have been caught in QA before release, unless it was only tested on consoles and not the PC port.

It works without any crashing or fps issues for me on SLI GTX Titan x2 with latest drivers, I've been getting some odd stuttering background noises sometimes but not often. Also there is obviously some slowdowns as I have had to use the work around for 60 fps on cut-scenes, I have noticed a general slow down on occasion when running through areas as well (slow motion running but isn't game breaking).

That search function though is a pain in the behind, tap tap tap searching for items my finger hurts lol. Tactical camera works but the lack of customization of characters "tactics" is pretty bad and needs adding to really not to mention AI is pretty dumb on occasion though it's workable if you know how to play around it.

All in all it's tolerable but it needs serious attention to make this more PC friendly and bugs/stability issues fixed. Added with some improved AI and more tactics options which I've seen plenty of other games add later I think it's possible.

Well that explains everything, so I was a fool to think Bioware still stands for quality games. Thank the maker EA didn't managed to buy over 2k games, otherwise the borderland and civilisation series would be horrible.

If EA was publishing Borderlands, they'd want us to pay $20 for 10 golden keys in which the chest would contain mostly green and occasionally blue items and tell us to be happy about it, instead of giving multiple golden keys almost daily as 2K/GBX is doing.

Oh and by tactical camera works I mean "to move people" generally I feel it's missing something like an increased zoom-out function and the porting from character to character when you click them in tactical camera is a pain since you are scrolling back and forth each command. There's just a ton of issues with tactical camera really but these are hopefully also fixable.

Bioware has been trying to fix the Dragon Age series since DA:O was released, but their "fixing" just makes everything worse.

In the time that it took to make DA2 and DA:I they could have made a Dragon Age: Origins 2 and Dragon Age: Origins 3 which could have both improved upon DA:O. Everyone would have been happy, the games would have great ratings on Metacritic and Bioware would be selling millions of copies easily. In other words, it would have been a much better investment to have just stayed on the beaten path. Dragon Age: Origins sold about 5 million copies, and subsequent direct sequels could have sold substantially more. Those were damn good numbers, there was no reason to substantially change everything.

TLDR: "Dragon Age: Origins sold millions of copies and was a huge succes, so now we gotta fix the franchise!"

Meh.  I liked DA:O and DA2 almost equally, and I like DA:I better than both, even with its problems.  And it'll be even better once they're solved!

Several years in the making and Bioware can't get an interface that just uses a mouse!  That was great in DA:O and DA:II.  You could easily direct your main character to any location or click on an enemy and attack.  No trying to get close with the "w" key and then attempting to lock on and then finally executing an attack - usually too late to make *any* difference!

Anyone have a 12 sided die and a pen?

Yup and that is why melee characters sucks as you need to run up to enemies using these keys and hack and slash, range characters like archer and Mage could just keep on shooting standing still with auto aim.

This is bad as DA 1 & 2 both range and melee characters are just as good to play, this one playing range is far better.

I feel bad guys for the extreme complaining there has been. Imagine this game had DA1/DA2 controllers, the game is great!

im so much enjoying it. Hopefully controls get fixed and a proper UI and tactical cam is improved. Havent explored anything yet but already cant wait to try other characters.

It would be a 10 out of 10 if we could spend points on our own on Stats.

But seriously, game as it is, its great. Have you even got past hinterlands?

That doesn't excuse it on being bad on PC seeing the Devs promise the PC would be the main device instead of consoles. DA 1 was made for PC and it was game of the year 2009, while DA 2 is bad.

I can't speak for any other reviews, but I know that the Rock Paper Shotgun reviewer spent the first hour or two with m&kb before switching to controller and staying in that mode. I know because I asked him about it. He did say that while the m&kb controls didn't outrage him, he did think they felt 'off'. I really wonder why he didn't think to mention that in his review given that RPS is ostensibly a PC-focused site, and m&kb is the primary input mechanism for many pc-gamers, but he didn't.

All I can say is that this reinforces my belief, developed after DA2, that professional critics are simply coming from a totally different viewpoint and value totally different things than matter to me, and seemingly many other regular gamers. I'm really glad I held off on buying DAI pending user reviews and I'm sorry so many of you are having to deal with crappy controls.

Frostbite is a crappy engine for rpgs, but seems ea forced bioware to do it, because they have the technology already and can save money to rip us off even more with nice PR stunts like "next gen engine". When I see the hands of the characters it shudders me, looks like N64 back in the day.

Controls and UI work fine for me, but the engine is ported so unbelievably crappy that I just got hate for this. I'm running a considered high end or nearly high end rig and the game stutters in cut scenes... like DA2 back in the day... seems the same guys who did DA2 wrong did it again with DAI. (look at the city design strangly reminds me to Kirkwall)

#ragequit for me... waiting for a patch which removes the searching and pinging to find items... I've got no words for this MMO like BS... really sad that bioware back in the day made KOTOR and BG and now such crap is given to the people... oh dear. (I think EA is to blame, worst company in history, no true rpg player wants some sh1tty social features, I've got alot of real friends who don't play games so what I WANT is a TRUE and epic SINGLEplayer experience and not a substitute facebook with stupid browser and casual games ... like the DAI sidequests ... oh man this game is hell or even worse.)

Yes it is sad that the studio responsible for BG2, arguably the greatest CRPG of all time, released this.

I shake my fist at you Ubisoft...for months of anticipation building, the treadmarks left on the way to the store...the hour damn installation time...all being rewarded with, "Thanks for the $60, here's some busy work". lol

I feel obligated to post a retraction...Sorry for jumping the gun, Ubisoft...iIt took a solid hour of gaming or so, but I got it down...it's not exactly ideal but it's not a disaster either.  I didn't mean it...and holy crap what a great game..I have to get back to it.

=D

Four days so far and no sign of patch. I wonder how long it will take, if they solve it at all. The main quests are IMPOSSIBLE to play through so many cutscenes, and there is not even an auto save between then, which makes things even worse.

Thanks for looking at patching the PC controls etc. The story and characters are amazing and I am really enjoying the game, just the controls and UI are pretty frustrating on PC, but that's the only thing I don't like, other than that this game is amazing! :)

Argh. now that I sorted my DLCs i'd like to play however despite a very powerful, still rather new, gaming pc the cinematics are extremely sluggish and stutter even after the recent patch. :/ no matter the AA settings or v-sync.

im confused how a lot of gaming sites like ign gave it such good reviews with the state the pc controls are in.  Everything else is good, but its like they totally ignored the pc issues in their reviews.  Maybe they all played with a controller....
