While I can't go into details on patch 3, I'd like to remind people of what Scylla said yesterday:

We appreciate your patience.

We're working on getting a hot fix out for the PC graphics issue as soon as possible.

That's good to hear, thank you.

Please keep us updated as "ASAP" gets more concrete!

So, just got home from work.

What's good, fellas??

Those control changes you were waiting for?

Keep waiting.

Oh, and they also broke all the graphics options, and the game looks terrible now.

Dude, I'd be STEAMING.

I was a bit hot.  But I got up, took a deep breath and came back to it later.  I keep my gaming PC away from my super important financials and work horse PC.  So while it was bad, I could think of a billion things that were worse in life.  :D

so this new patch lost all the scars and freckles textures and stuff, and made hair really shiny, alot of the textures look like my settings are low, when in fact i'm on ultra, for now i made a new save to play until a fix for these issues is out or at least a roll back of this patch that messed up graphics in game, as sad as i am that this got messed up i will not rage about it, i see many already doing that, sometimes fixing bugs breaks other things in game sadly it happens, so whilst this is dissapointing it's not the end of the world, hopefully this issue is looked into and fixed soon, for now i will settle with a new playthrough and leave my other saves til the game gets fixed, please remember bioware are trying and don't judge so harshly :(

Anyone seen any difference ?

Nope. PC controls are as bad as ever...

No zoom out either. AI still doesn't keep commands given to them when go out of the terrible tactical camera mode, which is unfortunately the ONLY way to address orders to you party members and only way to ask them to move, since their default position is always hugging the enemy. Overall bad combat experience thanks to all this annoyances.

So, no DAI for this Christmas.

Look, the problem is pretty straightforward: BioWare has a traditional twofold problem with quality control. They don't test enough, and they try to act like it's okay.

They ALWAYS promise their games will be the awesomest ever made, and their games are ALWAYS buggy as crap on release day, with triple the dose of the bugs for the PC version. ALWAYS. From Baldur's Gate all the way to Dragon Age Inquisition (no, I haven't played Shattered Steel, my bad).

And post-EA, they ALWAYS overreact when the fans get pissed about the poor quality control, and they ALWAYS go with "it's a feature, not a bug" (RE: DX10 not-support in DA2's earlier builds, the randomly disabled tactics in DA2, the timer-based loading screens in ME2, the everything in the UI of DAI, the face import in ME3, the save import problems in ME2, ME3 and DA2) up until TOO MANY fans are complaining, when they make a tired sigh and say something placative with the tone of "oh, if only it shuts the peasants up" and start making patches or hotfixes.

It's something many of us have already come to expect, much like the "Traditional BioWare Party Setup" or "Traditional BioWare Story Unfolding Steps".

TLDR: There will always be people unaware of this fact, and they will complain, and you have to live with it, like everyone else does. After all, without negative feedback, how would BioWare know the game needs fixing?

I don't have a problem with people giving feedback and even expressing frustration. But these dramatic declarations that the controls are completely unusable? That everything is broken?

I hardly have a game installed that doesn't crash every now and then. Now maybe its constant for some of you and that gripe is understandable but the autosaving on this game is really good in my experience. I hardly ever seem to lose progress when I crash. Better than a lot of games.

And the controls. I agree they're a bit clunky and definitely take some getting used to but they are workable. They're just not intuitive and you sometimes have to read up on how something works (like commands in tactical mode) And thats not good. I'm not trying to say any of this is good but, well, sometimes this starts to feel like the furor over the Mass Effect 3 ending again. At least with that you had a valid argument that it was a shitty capstone to three games worth of story. But most of the problems here are just annoyances. Every modern title I've played has them.

Someone else in this thread said "they have payment and I have nothing." I don't know if he means he can't download the game or get it to launch but if he's just talking about the bugs we're all having, I certainly don't feel like I have nothing. I have a lot of gripes but its also a pretty damn good game and I can see where they made an effort with this thing.

A lot of the problems we have, from writing to technical issues, strike me as being problems with trying to develop on this scale. Not just the size of the game itself but getting it to run on five different platforms, one of whom has numerous hardware configurations. "Other studios do it." Well I've only known Valve to make games more polished and less buggy and it takes them a long time and their games are smaller more linear experiences typically. Working on the small development projects I've done, its amazing to me that a team this size gets anything built. Bioware may have some experience sure, but they're also building something here thats different from what they've done before and they're working on a new engine.

We got the patch. I'm already noticing some positive differences (even after turning the settings back up.)

I really like the change they made to loot pinging. Putting it on the radar is great. Saves a lot of time.

OK, reading thru patch notes...  couple good fixes... gender, voice fix, disable tac cam on wheel...  v. good (I assume I'll use that)...

no mouse button mapping...still?.... no L/R mouse navi.......no auto attack..... no click to move  ... hmmm.  no walk toggle?...  really? ..... Hide UI fix...  eh, should've been in alrdy.... 'take all' loot fix...  hmmm, Again - why do we need to hit an actual keybrd key for that when we have a mouse cursor that can click on things?.... jesus... play Origins at all Bioware?

OK, looking thru some reactions....  still crashing, wow....  still bad fr drops... pffttt....  shiny hair in Ultra...  really....  missing complexions... missing scars?... graphics look worse now??  heh.... where did all the smart programmers go to I wonder?

it's clear Bioware staff is severely missing the talent they used to have.  I mean, after a month, this is all they could come up with??  Sure, there's a few good things in there, and I HOPE the people who could not even start their games are now able to, but....  seriously WTF?   No mouse button mapping???  Still??  What is going on behind the scenes up there?  Too many 1st round picks for the hockey team an no Cups has affected the communal common sense?

But yea, looks like I'mma wait until the next patch, thanks.

I really do want to experience this "amazing world" and fantastic game I keep reading about from fans.  I mean, that is what I paid for....

Well, at least MY game stopped crashing. I think.

That aside, yeah... shiny hair, scars are gone, framerate issues remain and I'm pretty sure the "hide tone icons" option no longer does anything (still hoping for a "hide approval messages" option in the future, too).

That's cool. Cool cool. Cool cool cool. COOL! :<

This probably mean they'll have to delay the patch on consoles too, doesn't it? Poor dudes.

Hotfix please?

My opinion. For PC the patch is a single step in the right direction. The game still isn't enjoyable to play in comparison to Origins. I'll wait for a further few to play it and enjoy it but it's definitely a step in the correct direction.

Still can't map mouse buttons, woulda thought that would have been a simple fix but hey.

Tactical camera is still a shoulder cam.

UI is still in Duplo mode.

Click to move is a help, still no hold mouse to move but it's a bit better at least.

Everyone's hair is now super super greasy, looks so unnatural :P

Those are my impressions from 5mins of gameplay. I didn't delve deep into it, I've got lots of other things I can be doing atm but it definitely still needs a lot of work. Don't be afraid to patch platforms individually, it's not like we're tied to consoles or anything, cough cough. (Who am I kidding lol).

Add "  -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel (ultra, high, medium or low, whatever your mesh settings are) " to command line arguments (right click game -> properties on origin) or after what's already in the target field on the game's shortcut.
Someone Mark should edit the first post to have this until we get the hotifx.

Hey Everyone,

We're working on getting a hot fix out for the PC graphics issue as soon as possible. In the meantime, here is a workaround you can try:

To start, make sure the quality setting you choose is equal to the setting set for Mesh Quality inside Options>Graphics

You will need to add a new command line parameter. To do this:

Through Origin:

  1. Right click on the Dragon Age Inquisition title
  2. Go to game properties
  3. Type the command line parameter in the Command Line Properties box.

Through shortcut:

  1. Right Click Shortcut
  2. Go to Properties
  3. Under target go to the end of the field and type the command line parameter into the box

Once there, add the following command line parameter: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel <quality setting>

In this instance, <quality setting> should be one of the following:

  • Ultra
  • High
  • Medium
  • Low

An example of how to set your quality to high would be: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel High

Please note that once the hot fix is out, you will need to go back in and remove this workaround from your command line.

It’s also important to note that pre-patch 2, all users on PC were being forced to use the Ultra shader quality. This means that those of you playing on lower settings will notice a decrease in quality, particularly players using low or medium settings.

To achieve the same visuals as pre-patch, users on lower settings will need to change their settings to Ultra, which should likewise be used in conjunction with Ultra mesh quality. Mismatching the mesh and shader settings will result in other visual artifacts like overly shiny hair.

Please be aware that changing settings to Ultra may impact performance on some machines.

Sorry about any frustration this may have caused.

*Sigh of relief*

THANK YOU for the fast reaction. Characters' face details are restored with this workaround. Not quite sure if the environment is fully restored - it seems to look not *quite* as good as before - but if there's still a difference, it has only a minor effect while playing the game. It may also be me being oversensitive.

'take all' loot fix...  hmmm, Again - why do we need to hit an actual keybrd key for that when we have a mouse cursor that can click on things?

The loot menu has full mouse control. You can click on the Take All option or any of the individual items (and the selection follows the cursor).

Previously, you could "activate" any item in the menu with the space bar or Enter keys, but myself and others suggested using the default activation key ("F") could be more convenient (with the space bar, you may have to reach with your thumb to hit it, whereas your index finger is probably always on the F key—and DA2 already worked by allowing its activation key, R, to invoke the Take All command).

You still have to manually click on the Click to Continue button to escape the launch screen, however. I suspect some form of drug abuse.

I really do want to experience this "amazing world" and fantastic game I keep reading about from fans.  I mean, that is what I paid for....

Then experience it (well, not until the hot fix).

You can adapt to the awful controls and enjoy the game despite them, or you can sit around and hope that they somehow decide to take the PC interface more seriously now than they did the whole 3 years they were developing the game.

The controls are awful, and the interface is shameful. But the game is incredible.

So get over it, honestly. Just play it and enjoy it and grumble about how crappy the controls are and how BioWare couldn't even reach the low bar set by ME2's PC version like the rest of us.

What if you have custom settings like most things ultra but msaa turned off and tesselation on high, etc?  can I add custom to my command line?   aka this is just text based force command to use whatever config file was created by my settings.  or is it hard coded directly to graphics settings?

I feel like this patch was entirely unnecessary, at what point does a software company have to pander to people with poor performance issues?  I mean ever since I've playing PC games its always been about tweaking the graphics options to get the most out of your PC. My game started out jerky, so I found which graphics options gave me performance and balanced that with an acceptable aesthetic. Namely MSAA its usually the culprit. Let the people figure their own **** out, that's the way its always been and the way it should be.  If you can't handle it get a playstation.  I mean a majority of things people really want patched, are mechanical issues with animations, or talents, bad meshes.  game play changes.  I could wait for that stuff.  This patch was completely unnecessary.  Granted I play with a gamepad, and no issues with the control scheme.  I love the change of pace personally.  The old days really only the mages and clerics were fun for me.  Now rogues and fighters are a riot.
