"This hotfix will correctly bind the mesh and shader settings and eliminate this issue."
Hotfix will fix mesh and shader, so you dont need command line in shortcut after installing hotfix.
Lol one of the most annoying things for me is that, post-patch, the game is pretty crash-free now in single player. However multiplayer is the complete opposite.
I can't even complete a bloody map in that without crashing.
Before the patch, multiplayer never crashed on me and single player occasionally gave me the hated DXGI hung crash.
We're sorry for any stress or confusion this may have caused, and we thank the community for helping us quickly identify and address this issue.
What about the issues in the Xbox 360-version? Any news on that or are these people second class customers?

"We are working hard to get Patch 2 out on Xbox One as soon as possible."
That's the last info. They confirmed this morning they had no new news on it.
"Later on today we'll be implementing a hotfix for Patch 2 on PC to address graphical issues our players have been experiencing. This fix will ensure that the graphics settings are working correctly for everyone; however, players who are using lower graphics settings will notice changes to the visuals they are used to.
Before Patch 2, released December 9, shader quality for all PC users was being forced to run at Ultra. This impacted the performance of low-end machines and caused some unintended visual artifacts for users whose mesh quality was set lower than Ultra. As a result, users with Low or Medium mesh settings saw hair that was shinier than expected.
We attempted to address this in Patch 2 by binding the two settings so that mesh and shader quality were always the same. However, this fix wasn't properly implemented, and it forced shader quality to Low. We provided a command-line workaround Tuesday, but that still required players to ensure that the new shader quality matched their mesh settings.
This hotfix will correctly bind the mesh and shader settings and eliminate this issue. However, now that shader quality is being set correctly for everyone, players using lower settings will notice a decrease in the quality of visuals. This includes the removal of some features such as scars and freckles.
Most notably, the lower settings do not support blending of the age layer, so some users may notice that their Inquisitor (or custom Hawke) has aged considerably. And while this change is how it was originally intended to work, it could be understandably frustrating for people who created their characters before Patch 2.
If you would like to correct this change, you can set your mesh quality to High or Ultra. This will enable features that are disabled on lower settings, but may impact your framerate and performance.

Mr. Pierse,
could you please verify if this hotfix will address further problems that came up with the patch? Applying the workaround does seem to alleviate the most obvious shader problems, but the graphics are still not back to how they were before the patch. Textures, lighting, tesselation, vegetation. All of that feels a lot more bland now, less detailed and vivid. In my case, i was running the game on ultra for almost every single setting except for shadows and anti-aliasing, which i run on medium because that's generally the sweet spot for those.
The degradation of quality is mostly seen in vegetation (overall quality and in interaction with lighting), lighting reflections on armor and weapons ( my crafted lazurite greatsword lost its characteristic metallic blue shine, for example) and textures in general (many materials seem to be less detailed now and some creatures have a distinctly plastic look to them, especially noticeable for Rage Demons).
Again, these problems were introduced with the patch. I have clocked in well over 160 hours of gameplay and did not fiddle with the graphics settings at all lately.
my game was running mostly fine prior to this update. i can't even get past the splash screen without major stuttering and 100% cpu utilization across all 4 of my i5-2500k@4.2GHz cores. i also have a GTX590 with 3GB of VRAM, so i should be able to run this game extremely well. changing graphics settings does nothing to alleviate the situation. please rollback this patch ASAP!
I need to ask a very technologically ignorant question:
Does a "hotfix" mean that if I now go ahead and install Patch 2, it will work correctly without the problems others have reported, or does it mean I need to download something else in place of or in addition to Patch 2?
Glad I stopped by in here. So far I have only ever experienced stuttering during cutscenes. Nothing else, no crashes, no nothing. Then last night after some game time, I got an update. Since then, I have not jumped back into the game. Anyway....I'm sure it'll all get sorted out soon enough. So many people whining and complaining and hating. Just relax, it's a game, not life :/ But I will say, I do certainly understand the frustration and anger if a game happens to make your computer crash and burn. Try and google some knowledge, to take certain steps to make restores and back ups in case any of this stuff happens in the first place. It's not hard. I started out completely ignorant. I went from thinking that my Monitor was the actual computer, to building computers and fixing them lol. And I never went to school for it. I just googled and youtube'd lol. I can only imagine a lot goes into making a game....as with a Mcdonald's employee, stuff happens, be patient, relax, breathe, and try to be a little more patient and understanding with others when they get something wrong. No matter the years of experience, that still doesn't create perfection in a peson. All I know is, I wouldn't want to be treated the way many of you have been treating people over the internet. there is so much immaturity, fowl language, and hate speech all over the net as it is. It's sad. Just because people feel they are safe behind a screen, doesn't make it any less unclassy. For all of the adults who act like this on the net, I am ashamed for you.... And yes, I freely admit I have been guilty of this kind of behaviour as well. And have since taken steps to correct that. Obviously I will be attacked, and that's okay. I'll just simply ignore! Have a great day folks ![]()
I hoped patch 1.2 would fix this damn random crashes (without error messages) now i´ve got random crashes AND directx crashes >>every 5-10 minutes<<
.. plz bioware this should be your major priority !! there are people who cant play the game !! i tried everything in the last 3 weeks to fix this
the funny thing is i have no laggs no nothing .. 30-40 fps all time even in cutscence (medium settings)
my rig
CPU AMD A8-3850 4x 2,9ghz
16 Gig RAM
GPU 2 Radeon HD 6700 series (crossfire)
Win 7 64

Patch 2 was yesterday, it may give you problems. The hotfix will be downloaded later today and will address the problems from yesterday. If you play between now and the second patch you will see the problems.

OK, thanks for the warning on that. So the hotfix will just be a new version of the patch? I won't have to download a patch and then download another one?

If you wait, it'll be invisible to you, I would imagine. You might still see 2 updates processing through Origin.

Hmn.. You have GTX590 which is just a SLI of two GTX 580 (or GTX 570??) if I remember well, so you have x2 1,5GB of VRAM not 3GB, cuz VRAM amount in SLI/Crossfire does not sum up.. And recommended VRAM for this game is 2GB+, but it is truth that this patch made my game stutter much more too.. Maybe a hotfix will help a little, and also upcoming drivers updates from both AMD & NVidia.
My Qunari is patiently awaiting his walking lessons in Patch 3 - for his LI Josephine has forbidden him to enter an Orlesian party until then!
i finished my fist gameplay and i'm not going to start another one until my immersion is full.
I find it 'funny' that my characters black hair, has turned shiny with this new 'fix' of theirs yet, Cassandra, who also has black hair, looks perfectly normal. Combine more of the settings so we have even less control of the graphics settings? That's the answer? Really? What you should be doing is the exact opposite, separate the options more than they are, because quite frankly, there are a number of things I'd love to get rid of, like motion blur, for example.
Just to add what i See so far:
Game run smoothly for me now, no fps drops at anytime (unless in high density of fx areas, like if you are close to multiple mage enemies, using abilityes), but its pretty clear that not only the mesh and shader get a downgrade as hell, but terrain quality, deep of field, even the water textures get a huge downgrade. Im not an expert, but maybe it is because shader get downgrade to low.
Good thing is, mantle now run far better than before, i strongly recomend using mantle as API for those amd gpu users. Also amd has release new drivers this week, its also good to download it!.
My pc:
Phenom II x4 945 3 ghz
Mobo Asrock n68-vs3 fx
8 gb single channel ddr3 1600mhz
Xfx hd 7970 3gb

You have better performance with Mantle? For me it is slighty worse than in DX11 (about 5 fps less), and I have HD 7950 Boost, and FX-8350 + 8GB RAM.
And yes I'm using latest drivers Catalyst Omega 14.12 WHQL.

To get rid of the motion blur:
Open notepad.

About wich one have higger fps, i can`t tell you, i will try a test latter and test it. Thing is, with mantle the game dont have any fps drops so far (close to 5hs playing). What can tell you is:
- The game never shut down (close to windows) on it. Just 1 time when i run a test on a insane overclock of the gpu (1,1 ghz core/1,475 ghz memory), the game start fail on load textures, and then just shut down (thankfully i didnt burn up the gpu xD).
- Textures load faster. Before patch, they load even before i reach a point, with patch some textures still load slow, but far faster than with dx11 for me.
- Cpu usage get reduced like 15% with mantle, from 80% to 60-65%.
Bad things:
- Sometimes textures do not load, or load wrong, creating some weird scenario, like tears or something like that. It get reduced a lot since patch however.
- Load times for large regions are insane, sometimes its like a minute or even more. dx11 is a lot faster.
Im not an exepert, but based on your rig, i guess you run better on dx11 because you have a far better cpu. Mantle uses the resources of the gpu in a diferent way, reducing load on cpu.
With a fx 8350 it seems like dx11 gets higher fps, just because a better use of the cpu itself, maybe that`s the reason you have high fps.
Can I completly disable DoF too?

Could we maybe ask nicely that EAWare bloody tests their bloody games and patches BEFORE the proverbial merde hits the fan? Didn't think so.
I don't think I have a low-end machine.
Why not? It actually does. That's how I had been playing since the patch release. In 'offline' it does not say that I have to update my game.
So now that the hotfix is coming, can we talk about Patch 3 lol. I would really like to buy this game again but wont touch it with a 10 foot pole until Bioware takes the PC controls seriously and gives us proper Mouse/Keyboard controls. Getting a UI built with M/KB would be a nice xmas present as well
