So now that the hotfix is coming, can we talk about Patch 3 lol. I would really like to buy this game again but wont touch it with a 10 foot pole until Bioware takes the PC controls seriously and gives us proper Mouse/Keyboard controls. Getting a UI built with M/KB would be a nice xmas present as well ;)

Two weeks from now? Not going to happen.

I know lol. With how Bioware completely thought they could ignore the PC community I doubt we will ever see a working game suitable for a Keyboard and Mouse. They seemed to make a calculated risk on giving us a hand me down Console UI betting on PC users not actually getting their money back enough to hurt their bottom line.

So I'm curious. Given all the performance problems the game has had, if I were to start Inquisition right now, how would it go?

Windows 8.1

Intel i7-4790S CPU@3.20GHz

GTX 750

12 GB RAM

1920x1080 resolution, 144Hz

What's it like, being long-range telepathic? Can you tell me what Warren Buffett is thinking right now?

You're still taking a risk, obviously, but I think you'd be pretty okay.  I'd still do the research.

Wouldn't know. All i said is I doubt we will see a change judging from past behavior. I believe its called my opinion, its not as if i'm pretending to be the second coming of Miss Cleo here :).

Based on my experience you'd be fine. Our CPUs are comparable, I'm not upgraded to Windows 8, your graphics card is better than mine and you have 4 GB more RAM than I do. The game has been running fine for me since launch. I didn't apply Patch 2.

Of course, there will be a multitude of pc users who will bash this and say it's not fair to Bioware, the pc controls are fine, etc, but honestly, none of them expected what we got regardless of how accepting they might be.  This whole 5 month lead-up to release was absolutely a carefully choreographed effort to hide any part of the pc ui that would raise alarms.  The 2 pc twitch streams we got did a good job not to show people too much, to not dig down too deep into the game.

Blindside.  For many PC gamers.  That said, the pre-patch notes talked about future improvements, requests from the community, etc.  Would be real nice if we got an idea of what they are trying to do.  As opposed to more guessing.

I can live with the hair being covered with grease, but the rest of mesh makes my eyes bleed. Trees and grass look like something straight from WoW. While pre-patch game had a solid 50fps on Ultra, the patched one has a random fps drops and stutter.

It took the game a stunning 25 minutes to load! A nightmare from a Fade, not less...

Yeah Brogan, I actually agree and thats kinda why I take a pessimistic approach to all this. Mostly to have a bit of fun in all honesty.

However the vagueness in the Future patch notes is what has me skeptical and to me I read those future promises in the same vein as the hole Made on PC for PC gamers BS.

I have a problem with the boots. Their color over time begins to differ from the original. To avoid this bug, need to set up Shader Quality to Low or Normal (add the following command line parameter: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel <quality setting>). It was helpful for me. But I'd like to see the problem has been fixed on high settings.

Okay, playtesting and whatnot done. Since we've been asked to put concerns here, here they are.

Here's my experience with the patch:

1. If you have an AMD vidcard, do update to their latest driver (4.12) which was released 2 days ago. Made things much smoother (actually, in my case, the FR went from absolutely unplayable--although it was fine, pre-patch with the .11 driver--to smooth, so vidcard drivers are a factor here). I also ran a "repair" on the game files itself. Having said that, the front screen, which was working perfectly before (you know, the one of the line of mages & Templars heading to the Temple), apart from it freezing with the Origin surge, now stutters regularly, then I get a laugh as they all race to catch up, stutter, stutter, freeze, RUN GUYS WE'RE LATE... stutter. The FPS within the game was much better, in my case, however it took a bit of fiddling to get it there. Someone with less computer experience (I'm as effing stubborn persistent as Cassandra Cullen) would have given up.

2. The workaround that is listed on the front page of the patch thread is a must. Fixed the shiny and textures completely (I run mesh and textures on ultra--other things on low/medium. Tested on high, still looks good. I figured since we'd been forced into ultra shaders thus far, my lappy could cope so that's what I use now. In any case, changing this doesn't affect the performance issues listed below--either way). Actually looks really good once that's in--looking forward to the hotfix.

3. Major cutscenes still hitch and stutter (again, like they're being FPS strangled--I have had to remove the FPS fix but putting it back didn't change anything)--but the in synch issue (especially with the pre-Skyhold song scene) is gone for me. 'Twas nice to see Cullen actually sing when he... sang... ;) The hitch & stutter is not extreme, but it is very noticeable--and is not affected by graphics settings.

4. The "conversation" wheel fix has unfortunately broken a function--if you leave the conversation, now, and want to go back (say, if the ingame dialogue camera places you in a tree branch or something or you're looking at the back of Roderick's head and you want to move your char so you're facing him... or, y'know... Cullen.. or I dunno, someone) you lose the dialogue bubble over whoever you're talking to and cannot re-enter conversation as before. I am also getting a blank wheel when this happens (and I'm testing on conversations I've had a few times so i know what should be there). This is dealt with by hitting esc, then back. Was actually working for me fine, pre-patch.

5. Origin client still crashes game. Must run with overlay off, offline for best results.

6. Load times have (on average) doubled, especially when entering the game. I love the load music, at least. I get to hear the whole theme. Before I made it, maybe, to the second stanza.

So, all in all, performance has, in this case, been improved a bit in one direction while being stymied in the other--however, I will give it an overall "slightly better if you have the know-how and can fix the patch's foibles", which kind of should not really be the case? Not everyone's been playing CRPGs since Dos was a lass. :)

...and how it won game of the year, considering the fact that it went live almost 4 weeks ago is beyond my comprehension. I never understood the logic behind calling a game "Game of the Year" when it comes out at the end of a calendar year. *smh* And they way it was embraced makes me think of that "Man From Nantucket" limerick. (The dirty version.)

Exactly, here's expecting Bioware to FINALLY say something about the zoom (and click to move, as well as bad, bad, bad, enemy hugging AI).

That. Is. All. I. Want.

I think by now, with their track record of don't tell em' anything attitude - its unlikely we'll get a heads-up on forthcoming patches. I want to be wrong - I want them to do the right thing and so do many many people but then again everyone has wanted this since Nov 18th and PC gamers and users of this forum got nothing.

People complained about the info arriving on twitter instead of their own forum but did that do anything NO - not until the day of the planned release. OMG they didn't even think to post this -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel on the first page until gamers here asked them to, stating the obvious oversight and lack of attention to detail.

You would think they'd never released a game before - so a patch arrives after 3 weeks and it breaks the gfx - its amateur hour. Do I sound the tiniest bit disgruntled - what ya think? For now all my auto updates are turned off but will that even work who knows.

In my book they have a long way to go before they regain any confidence from PC gamers and I'm sure many others - do they deserve continued flak - YES - until they get their act together and start to communicate effectively and deliver a game they said people should expect.

Despite the favourable reviews they received from some quarters of the press - people will remember this experience and in the mid to long term BioWare will suffer for it and it wouldn't surprise me to see some shakedown within the company.

It makes me very sad that a company that had the hearts and minds of their supporters can fall so far from grace.  :(

Hmm...that's weird, the hotfix workaround does not work for me at all. Still shining'em hairs and mesh on trees is hellish.

Got latest Omega drivers.

At least the wartable interface no longer becomes unresponsive but I still get dialogue wheels without number prompts for whatever reason. My biggest complaint the further I get into the game, is the lack of tooltip information displayed in the ui. Player attributes are not explained with anything but icons and need stats displayed via tooltips (M&KB). Also when crafting, it would be nice to have all of your party's current equipment displayed so that you know exactly what is a beneficial crafting upgrade in the crafting menu, without having to exit out to the inventory menu and try to remember each parties currently equipped items and stats.

The menus and ui quite honestly are just plain awful, cumbersome and clunky. They are not AAA GOTY quality by any stretch of the imagination especially in the context of a pc M&KB scheme. There still is no walk toggle button (a simple little feature) which is beyond disappointing or a player stash (if that is even being considered).

I just don't know what to say anymore other than (in my opinion) DA:I is more of a chore than a joy to play.  I don't understand how all of this is so casually ignored by much of the player base and the gaming media to the extent that A GOTY label is slapped on DA:I. I just don't get it.

To get rid of the motion blur:

Open notepad.

Copy this in:

WorldRender.MotionBlurEnable 0
WorldRender.MotionBlurQuality 0
WorldRender.MotionBlurMaxSampleCount 0
PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1

Save it as "user.cfg" (not txt file) into Dragon Age installation directory (where the exe is)

Done. No motion blur.

Delete "PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1" If you don't want the game to display current FPS.

That did the trick, much appriciated, sir.

Just to check, do you have the settings on your "mesh" to Ultra in your graphics settings as well? You probably have, so forgive me, but it's an easy thing to overlook. I did, the first time. My mesh setting was actually on high and I'd thought it was Ultra. Changed it, all was well.

For others who aren't aware, if the mesh setting is high, medium or low, then the command line must have High Medium or Low to match the mesh setting in-game.
