I also didn't see:

Added massive screen tearing.

in the hotfix notes.

Do you have V-Sync turned on?  If so, try turning it off.

After applying the latest hotfix, I've got what looks like some weird shading issues with the ground textures (it might be all, unsure but can really tell on the ground); it's like there is no ambient shading, only character or pre-drawn.

The hair glossiness is gone, but this other thing is really jarring. Tried to check both window/fullscreen but no change.

Did you mean communicating?

I obviously meant to imply Bioware are a company of alchemists looking to transform their fans into other elements (like gold).

OK. So either in 3+ years they couldn't figure it out, or they never intended it for the pc version in the first place, and are now trying to shoehorn it in. Which would you say is the case here?

I think they failed miserably. I do think that with enough time and energy they could rework FB3 to do what Eclipse did but it would take them a great enough investment that EA would have had to invest a lot more into man hours than it was willing to invest. So basically I think it's a combination of failure and budget limits.

this is the exact kind of idiotic attitude that lets game publishers pull this crap.

it used to be that developers worked on a game until it was just about done, tested it, fixed any problems, and THEN published it when it was ready. now, the release dates are set before anything else... and devs work on it, publish it before it's ready, let the users test things and find all the problems, and then MAYBE get around to "fixing" them while breaking other things with "patches".

developers relying on post-release patching instead of thorough pre-release quality assurance testing is the BIGGEST problem in the industry today... and it makes all of their customers hate them.

What are you talking about? DAI is the most faithful old school PC release in an incredibly long time - huge bugs, driver compatibility issues, patches that bork the game all over again, etc. This is what PC gaming was like in the late 90s and early 2000s. We had an amazing run in the mid 2000s in terms of stability but that's a fluke. I remember having to create boot disks for games just to get them to run (I'm looking at you Wing Commander).

Vsync eliminates tearing, it doesn't introduce it... *facepalm*

So does the hotfix actually fix things?

I'm guessing it doesn't do anything to fix the stuttering and hitching Patch 2 introduced to Nvidia cards?

Seems with all the patching and drivers being done, it's acting like its re-learning how to run the game.  1st time I was able to start after-patch it took a long time to get into the introduction screen....then the next time it was a lot faster.  Then game play was somewhat lagging... then it got a lot faster to where it should be.

I'm guessing that's the shaders being re-generated for the patched data.

So nothing that was upgraded, installed over the last couple of days made any difference. I still have the same bugs, the same graphic f'ups, the same kind of crashes. I realize some of it is my issue for not having a good graphics card, but some of it were bugs many people were experiencing, and was supposed to be in the patch. However it's still not working right for me. I still have to right click around in the war room to get the Orlais/Ferelden cards to highlight. I still have to click around to get the text to highlight when speaking to someone. My companions still don't show up in their spots at Skyhold......etc.....etc......etc. I didn't have any of the other major bugs people complained about so I guess I am lucky like that but still..... Some of the bugs they said the patch fixed......did not. I'm not having many of the graphic issues, or what there is, just doesn't irritate me enough to complain about it, since my card sucks. Still, if you are going to say you fixed something specific, I'd like to SEE that you fixed it.

And I paused after a crash to write this. Usually it's when I fast travel into Skyhold. 80% of my crashes.

Any word on the Nvidia issue?  80% of the time now in a cutscene, the game crashes.  And nothing like doing a fight over and over because you can't save as it goes right into one.

*twitches*

I have yet to get into Skyhold because i keep crashing.  6th time so far, I'm about to throw my pc out the window.

poking my nose in to see if anything good has happened.... nope.

I'm not going to try this patch. my problem is CTD in cutscenes with Dxerror - no problems in the war room or anyplace else. the game looks stunning & plays perfectly. but....can't continue if I can't talk with people & travel. (that freckled-face girl keep jabbering at me if I try to go to the Hinterlands & then I crash.) maybe when Nvidia puts out a new driver. I've tweaked all that I can. If my Pc were more powerful, I could drive it to work.

the only other time I couldn't continue in a game was Daggerfall. you pretty much had to put the whole game on your hard drive to keep it from crashing. trouble was, most hd=128mg. yes, I said MG. in six months, I had a big drive that could hold the gigantic game. one of the best I've ever played. it helped that I could call Bethesda & chat with a dev. good times.

I'm pretty much married with children with Bethesda, but have decided to break up completely with Bioware/EA.

ah well, back to Skyrim & This War Of Mine. (great little game.)

I would think the extra investment (time and money) would be worth it if they are likely to use the same engine for DA4.

I downloaded the hotfix and,

I... still have shiny hair on my characters.

Is there something I missed here?  Am I supposed to do something else to fix the problem?

- Getting stuck on *walk* when entering combat (would need extra code to auto switch to *run*)

- Combat-animations getting borked because you're on *walk* and should move slower

- Getting stuck on *walk* when entering a cutscene where your character should be running, breaking the animation

I don't know how the engine works, and if these are issues that arise, but this is what I'd think of when they say, they encounter "issues" with a toggle.

You wouldn't have these on a joystick, 'cause it doesn't "toggle". It rather "activates".

In the light of this I'd be perfectly happy with a hold-to-walk-button. Better than no walk at all.

But of course I don't know how close or far I am from the real problems they have. My coding days lie ten years in the past now ;)

I just understand that there can be problems that need more work even with "simple" things like a walk-toggle. As long as they are working on it at all, I'm tiying to be patient.

Yes, this makes sense. It's probably not the actual walk/run animation that's the issue, it's how it interacts with combat. I can imagine that's a PITA to deal with if a line of code isn't "clicking" with the (lack of) keyboard controls.

Now it would seem that something brought back the traveling crash for me again.

And to think somehow it worked it self out for a good  few days of no crashing.

Since I can't ask the question at EA's help site (the sign in button redirects to the home page, and the new question button redirects to an error page), I'm going to ask it here.

I have noticed this evening that my mage companions are taking odd damage spikes while exploring out of combat. It only happens with my mages, and in 130ish hours, this is my first time experiencing this, even though I always have at least one mage companion in the party. Could this be related to the hotfix at all?

Edit #1: In case it makes a difference, I'm playing on Nightmare difficulty, and this is happening in the Storm Coast area. Also, I am on PC, and I have not changed any settings this evening, The only adjustment I made was to change the Origin executable properties, since the workaround is no longer needed.

Edit #2: To test, I switched to Blackwall (party makeup is rogue PC, Vivienne, Dorien, and Blackwall) and ran around on the beach. I experienced the same damage to my rogue, which leads me to believe that the only reason I wasn't seeing it on Blackwall as well before is because he has a full guard bard pretty much all the time.

So Mark Darrah just answered another tweet explaining to somebody the difficulty in making a walk toggle for PC.

Can somebody with twitter please ask him, "When will we be able to map things, ie. jump, to our 4th or 5th mouse button?"

Nobody here or in AHQ seems to know.

So the hotfix didn't fix the constant freezes people are experiencing during gameplay? Glad I don't have a desire to play the multiplayer, or DLC that requires me to be updated. Gonna stick with the vanilla game until these problems are sorted out.

Hello Bioware , during the mission what pride had wrought  on several occasions I had no mouse control, no tactical camera , no attack and no control over my companions , all I could do was run around with wasd. A save and completely exiting the game and restarting worked for a while.  Patch 2 is installed, has anyone experienced the same problem ?

That tweet is fine, and...I get it, sort it of...but, it's not like the analogue stick is the accelerator in your car. It is communicating electronically with the game. There must be a "number" associated with stopped, walk and run...surely? If I am stopped, I press the up arrow to start walking. I press it again to run. I press it once more to stop. All while using WASD to steer. Or something like that.
