So Mark Darrah just answered another tweet explaining to somebody the difficulty in making a walk toggle for PC.

Can somebody with twitter please ask him, "When will we be able to map things, ie. jump, to our 4th or 5th mouse button?"

Nobody here or in AHQ seems to know.

Can't you do your bindings in user.cfg or profile config files?

And why all of you want walk toggle? I don't get it :P Not hating or anything, just wondering.

And please, please... No more "They did it before just fine!" comments... You can clearly see they are struggling with this enforced crap engine to this day :)

I would think the extra investment (time and money) would be worth it if they are likely to use the same engine for DA4.

I think a lot of the work is done now, so for a hypothetical DA4 they are tweaking. A functional PC UI will be a pretty big olive branch, and IMO I think it'll be a necessity for any kind of substantial success on PC.

My god, who designed this game?! We're talking about basic control functionality and pressing a key. It doesn't need to be implemented as a "state change." W is run, shift+W is walk, create an abstraction between keys pressed and action taken. This is basic software engineering...

Between the console-centric design of the menus, broken tactical combat, patch kerfuffles, camera zoom/obstruction limitations, and now this nonsense... Yeesh. Release the source code already and let the community take it from here.

So...update got stuck at 76%...so I tried virus checking, redownloading, rebooting, delete the update folder, nothing worked.

So, I uninstalled.

Can't reinstall, get an Origin Error.

So now, I'm downloading an illegal torrent, so I can install my legally purchased game.

Absolutely ridiculous.

B)  I would not wish to sound uncharitable, however by releasing the source code, the community would prove to all and sundry the scrap-level "engineers" BioWare employees and that would not bode well for their future employment.   :D

Anyway, the gaming industry brought such assortment of skilled workers to themselves by constantly closing studios, opening new ones, making the post dependent on one project,... In short, not an employment sought by good programmers that get 2x the pay and a secure job in no time outside of the gaming industry.

I think human beings in their very nature need to belong to some form of tribe and in that be united in some form of aggression towards others not in that tribe.

*nods* You do know that I was only commenting in regards to the PC v Console "conflict"... Yes? In regards to your comment, one need only look at the world and it's history to understand what you're saying here, but thanks anyway.

Hah, that was frostbite? I was in that alpha, game looked like sh**, was constantly online (every unit position), with very bad AI, more than half of it was microtransactions and... yeah, it got cancelled alright... Very good selling point for the engine too. Heh. 10/10 argument. The thing barely worked :P

I didn't say that that game was any good. I couldn't care less for C&C (series been long dead since Westwood). I was referring to the fact that they DID implement a top down view and mouse pan on frostbite 3 and since DAI uses similar engine why couldn't BW do the same here? Module is still there, use it!

There's even groups within those groups. PlayStation vs Xbox, nVidia vs AMD/ATI, etc.

Just game on whatever hardware you want and ignore it.

I think that they just never worked on this engine. This engine is famously problematic. They had (most likely) too little time.

There :) 3 reasons, In case I was wrong about 1 or 2.

Give them another 2 or 3 titles and about 10 years.

They'll get there. Eventually :P

Or... DICE should send them a couple of those guys who were constantly fixing BF4, they obviously have a better ways around their own engine :)

Immersion/RP reasons mostly. Many times throughout the game it just doesn't seem appropriate to run/jog, whereas walking can lend increased gravity to a scene - e.g. when you wake up in Haven and find yourself greeted by everyone.

It's not Haven that's the big problem for me, it's the Orlesian ball. My Qunari currently has done every mission up to that point including all war table missions (except for gathering coin/resources/etc), because I know how that played out on my first playthrough running around like a goof infront of the entire Orlesian nobility.

I won't ruin my main like this. Besides Josephine would disapprove considering how much she's civilised my toon.

Latest Bioware and AMD VC patches + "shader" command fix has worked for me.  Had more or less flawless gameplay previously but cutscenes were very choppy with sound hitches in dialogue.  Cutscenes (at least what I've seen thus far) are looking like what I would have expected from beginning, but yet still some hiccups with sound.

AMD FX-6350 (6 Core) (3.9GHz) (6 MB Cache) (Overclocked to 4.3GHz)

ASUS Crosshair V Formula 990FX Motherboard

16GB DDR3 2133MHz

AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB

Win 7

Note: I received an early update for something like Microsoft Visual C+ (something like that) and it plasticized my hair and removed scars; and neither Bioware or VC driver update eliminated this, but adding "shader" command line (went through Origin) got everything looking optimized again.  I also found I had to reboot after updating my VC drivers for them to take.  Running everything maxed out.

I must have been one of the lucky few PC users who had no issues with the launch version of the game. Prior to installing Patch 2, the game had never crashed on me. Not once.

Last night I installed Patch 2, and immediately my troubles began. First was when the game decided that it would launch, but then jump out of the app and return to the desktop (much like alt_tab behaviour). Clicking back into the game worked for 1sec, then it jumped back out again. The only way I was able to fix that was to set the game to windowed mode (fullscreen). Then I implemented the command line parameter hotfix for the shader issue, and successfully played for a few hours.

Fast forward to this evening. I applied the new Hotfix for Patch 2, and removed the command line workaround. Fired up the game, continued from last save, walked around for 2min (Storm Coast), started a fight with some bandits and BAM - a BSOD (DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION). My PC has NEVER had a BSOD before.

What on earth is wrong with this game!?

FYI, specs are as follows: Intel i7 4790K | 16GB RAM | 1TB SSD | GTX 980 (stock reference). Windows 8.1 x64. Latest NVidia drivers (not beta).

A DPC_WATCHDOG is usually related to a hardware issue, though presumably if this is DA:I related the game is doing something really wonky. Have you tried System Restore to a pre-patch version of DA:I?

I have a save game from just before meeting Hawke. With the hotifxed patch, can I use that save and customize Hawke without the voice switch bug happening?

Also, I have had very little problems with the game. I am more than a little hesitant to download this patch given that it seems to mess up people's games. Not sure what to do...

C++ run time for windows. It tells the OS how to run C++ code which is probably what frostbite is written in.
