I have a save game from just before meeting Hawke. With the hotifxed patch, can I use that save and customize Hawke without the voice switch bug happening?

Also, I have had very little problems with the game. I am more than a little hesitant to download this patch given that it seems to mess up people's games. Not sure what to do...

I would say try it, I think the bug was triggered by a mix up in the chargen files. The voice flag was probably flipped somehow.

Well, before the Hotfix the game ran much better for me (i used mantle and forced the shaders to ultra but set mesh quality to medium). Unfortunately the shader quality is now dependent to the mesh quality. But I need to  play with medium mesh quality and high/ultra shaders. Is there somehow a workaround for forcing the shaders to something else than the mesh quality? The workaround "-ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel Ultra" doesn't work anymore after the hotfix!

Hotfix fixed the shiny hair, everythings back to normal, running smooth as silk, especially now I have the workaround for 30fps cutscenes on.

Alright so, here's my report:

After the initial hotfix installation, game didn't start. The repair function fixed this.

Shiny hair is gone (meshes on high), age and face texture look right, stubble is there, scars are there. Game looks like I'm used to from before the patch.

I also followed these steps from the helpdesk

I just got finished with customer support and here is what we did to fix my game. I had the same issues you all were having which we narrowed down to being an origin update issue. You may have installed the patch but origin can have issues recognizing the changes and freak out.

Do all of these steps listed below in that order. When finished with each step re launch origin and accept the user agreement and when it has verified your games right click inquisition and check for updates. After that has finished right click again to repair your game. The repair will make sure origin recognizes the updates. It will take a few minutes to do everything but it got rid of my issues.

    Run ccleaner on PC:

    Clear origin cache:

    Perform a clean boot:

So I don't know if it was this or the hotfix, but now the stuttering is gone.

So thank you Bioware and thank you Trooperr2, I'm happy again and can enjoy my first free weekend in 3 weeks :)

And as a reminder to those who are missing scars or have shiny hair post hotfix: You need to have meshes at least on "High" setting in order to see all this.

Well, the only noticeable difference for me in Patch 2 was the updated search function which did helped to alleviate my OCD. On the other had it borked the graphics. Got the workaround and everything seemed fine. Now the hot-fix has at least fixed the graphics not registering correctly, but now my performance has noticeably suffered. Now I've been using the same graphic settings since launch, and the game ran fine on mostly High-Ultra settings with no MSAA and only ever dipping below 60FPS in high population scenes, such as the crowds that greet you in Haven or the bustling streets of Redcliffe, which was somewhat understandable and made up a small minority of my experience. Now however the game is dipping below 60FPS while riding a mount. It was dipping down to ~50 during parts of the horse races in the Hinterlands, something it had never done before (yes, I've been playing with FRAPS on constantly since launch). Not only that, but now the main menu screen is suffering from stuttering and freezing up on occasion, something it also never did before. I've also had very noticeable dips in frame-rate while just walking across the terrain, in what I can only assuming was the game loading up more of the map; which is especially infuriating as I have the game installed on a SSD and likewise never occurred before the hotfix. So this game is now performing noticeably worse for me all around. If I had to give up the voice-swap bug and the updated mini-map for better performance, I'd take the better performance. These newly introduced drops in frame-rate are alloying as all hell.

Im reading about Lords of the Fallen problems (game uses Denuvo Anti-Tamper), and i begin to suspect the anti-tamper can have a significant impact on the stability of the game, errors are very similar though different game engine, crash at startup, low FPS, DLL errors, stuttering, crash / freeze...

Spoiler

I thought part of the point of moving to Frostbite was that it would let all of EA's teams share knowledge. So if other teams in EA can make a walk toggle for PC, why did Bioware not go out and ask one of them how it was done.

An excellent list of steps towards optimizing performance which should work for many, however after performing all of these steps, it has still not improved my stuttering (with increased frequency) issue at all unfortunately.  :(

Because that would actually make sense and bioware can't have that.

Haha, yeah good question!

They will never actually admit it, but clearly they simply dropped the ball with the PC Controls. I do not believe that it is really that much of an issue to implement the proper control mechanisms, especially since they had more than 3 years to do it.

i think it's because most interesting DAI features were created from scratch, those features are not native to FB3 (designed for... shooters); devs probably spend more time battling the engine (and creating tools for other departments) than refactoring

I'm not sure if its just me, or if anyone else can confirm, but since I've started using the workaround for 60fps cutscenes, the temperature of my graphics card has dropped dramatically.

With the fans all the way up, it usually hovers around the 70 mark while playing Inquisition. Now, it hovers between 45 - 55. I'm guessing the surge of going from 60+fps in-game, all the way down to 30fps for cutscenes, then all the way back up really annoys the GPU lol.

I have played DAI more than 100 hours now, and even with lot of problems I've encountered (and reported here for the most), I enjoy the game, Really. But there's a lot to do for me :

- Possibility to click move like a real PC version (they've already done that with their games, why remove it now ???). Before the game I've seen some videos where they said that the PC version had their attention, it seems not. for me this is just a console's port. I'm really disappointed, but I will wait for future patch to see if Bioware's representatives will be true to their words and do a really worthy PC version.

- Fixing Bugs like npc being stuck in the ground or appearing magically upon our head, or in front of us during a cinematic. Sound's not playing sometimes...all these things that break the immersion.

- Zoom out increased in the  Tactical View (because it is tactical view, no ? the way it is now is everything but tactical for me, it is just an Action View with pause on it).

- Possibility to have more than one action to chose in tactical mode ?

- A key mapping to Hide/Unhide the interface, Because this game is so beautiful and I like to take screens without the HUD without having to go in the menu.

- A key to walk/run, to enjoy the landscape and at some places when you need to be cautious. But this problem could be fix with a click move option (?).

- Possibility to map mouse's buttons 4 and 5 (or more). Because I have a mouse that have 5 buttons, and this is one of the only game where I cannot bind action to these buttons ? And this another point prove to me, that DAI PC was not created with a real will to do a worthy PC version.

- Changing the Hairs please(!) That's my point of view, but I find the hairs for our avatar (especially women) so ugly and unnatural. I had this feeling with Mass effect's hairs, and the problem is the same with DAI. it is not hairs, but just big block of plastic put on the heads for me.

- A more precise communication with players, like a precise list of what they're working on, for their next patches? This will avoid people to ask for corrections that are already on wok in progress.

It was important to make communication before DAI was released, and they made a lot of announcement, and it was very clear and Massive. It would be great to have this kind of consideration now, even when the game is out and sold, because it is just a courtesy for the players who bought the game, and to regain the trust a lot have lost.

Ok I'll stop this list now, and will wait the next move from Bioware and more precisely their direction. Do they want to correct their mistakes and allocate more people to fix things, or do they want to go on like these and concentrate on others games without having a real finished one.

Anyway, for me the game is Great, the team have done a terribly job on it, it would be sad, a waste of talents to let it be unpolished, really. Sorry for the so long post and my bad English  :(

my game was running mostly fine prior to this update.  i can't even get past the splash screen without major stuttering and 100% cpu utilization across all 4 of my i5-2500k@4.2GHz cores.  i also have a GTX590 with 3GB of VRAM, so i should be able to run this game extremely well.  changing graphics settings does nothing to alleviate the situation.  please rollback this patch ASAP!

Not with a 590 you won't its a much older card that performs worse than a single 770 and not to mention its a dual GPU card which most games have issues with,I'd suggest replacing your card with something more modern

Vsync eliminates tearing, it doesn't introduce it... *facepalm*

VSync being on causes screen tearing in Inquisition with certain settings, snookums.

I must have been one of the lucky few PC users who had no issues with the launch version of the game. Prior to installing Patch 2, the game had never crashed on me. Not once.

Last night I installed Patch 2, and immediately my troubles began. First was when the game decided that it would launch, but then jump out of the app and return to the desktop (much like alt_tab behaviour). Clicking back into the game worked for 1sec, then it jumped back out again. The only way I was able to fix that was to set the game to windowed mode (fullscreen). Then I implemented the command line parameter hotfix for the shader issue, and successfully played for a few hours.

Fast forward to this evening. I applied the new Hotfix for Patch 2, and removed the command line workaround. Fired up the game, continued from last save, walked around for 2min (Storm Coast), started a fight with some bandits and BAM - a BSOD (DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION). My PC has NEVER had a BSOD before.

What on earth is wrong with this game!?

FYI, specs are as follows: Intel i7 4790K | 16GB RAM | 1TB SSD | GTX 980 (stock reference). Windows 8.1 x64. Latest NVidia drivers (not beta).

Can't you do your bindings in user.cfg or profile config files?

And why all of you want walk toggle? I don't get it :P Not hating or anything, just wondering.

And please, please... No more "They did it before just fine!" comments... You can clearly see they are struggling with this enforced crap engine to this day :)

5pnopU8.jpg

1)They did it before.

2)It is a standard requirement in PC RPG's and has been for over 10yrs and since their own pre-launch video says that this is "made by PC Gamers for PC Gamers" it should bloody well have it

3)Unless you spend your entire life running everywhere like Usain Bolt in the 100m Finals it breaks immersion which is the whole dam point of a RPG !

So still no fix/patch for stuttering cutscenes they promised back in November.. And now also origin just screw my saves and I lost them all.. I will never again use Origin Cloud ;-/ Back to other games for now, maybe in next two months BW will actually make it more PC friendly like DAO or even DA2 was...
