soooooooo...

Did the hotfix mend the flickering and opaque fog with SLI ?

The opaque, glowing fog is an SLI issue...? While I haven't checked to see if the patch addressed this, it's good to know - I'd thought the annoying fog was intentional. There's hope it'll be addressed then.

To summarize, all I did was to change the display into windowed mode then switch back to fullscreen. Sadly, I have to do it every time I launch the game but better waste a couple mins other than watching a slideshow.

Black magic!

That's freaky.

If you are having DirectX issues and you have an AMD Radeon graphics card, please update to the AMD Catalyst 14.11.2 beta driver.

Are you working on any fix for AMD Radeon cards?

I am still getting this error:
rTlhF9l.png
Note: I used a screenshot before I installed a newer version. I updated from 14.11. to 14.12. (released like 2 days ago) after getting rid of crappy MS update 3004394 in the process. The error message appeared again, this time a driver mentioned was 14.12. I am going to apply advises posted in this thread and in my mailbox by kind forumites.

I thought beta driver ceased the error's occurrence but character editor crashed on me yesterday (didn't happen before) and later during the gameplay relatively early on (10 mins in game?).

The game looks nice from what I have seen at average framerate 45 FPS and many customers reporting positive feedback indicates it will be fun to play. It's a shame my enjoyment is decreased by frequent crashes, vague import tool and hit-or-miss character editor without any way how to recreate it (after discovering import tool imported a generic world state after saying it imported "my world").
I admit I feel like a fool preordering and not waiting a couple of months when the game would be not only more stable (I presume) but also a lot cheaper.

Some news from twitter again:

1.@BioMarkDarrah Where is WALK button for PC ? You say it will be with this patch...

@Nikolaev0827 we had to pull it because it had serious issues. Still working on it

2.@BioMarkDarrah Are we not able to fix our characters' voice now that patch 2 has launched? Must I start over to fix this issue?

@AlexandusRex we are looking into a face changer like DA2. With that you would be able to fix the issue.

This was not addressed/fixed in patch #2 nor the hotfix. SLI is still as broken as ever.

I have been following this thread since release and wanted to give an update on some of the graphics issues.

First Im running a i5-4670 at 3.8 with 16gb ram and two gtx 760s in sli.

At release I couldn't even get the game to load wth sli running. Running a single card I was getting the direct x error on cutscenes like many others. I managed to minimize those with down clocking and other fixes that have been suggested but I still stayed away from playing until patch 2.

After playing with the hotfix yesterday I haven't seen any graphical issues with textures, mesh, and effects on ultra with everything else on high. Getting great frame rate with no crashes so far. Haven't tested sli yet but I think that's going to have to wait until Nvidia releases another driver update. While the control issues are still there at least I can play the game now, which has been awesome so far. Hopefully we will get the next patch sooner rather than later.

STUTTERING AND FREEZE sort this out since the patch can even walk anymore.

Now, I know this might indeed be an optimization issue, but just to be sure: do you have the specs to run the thing without stuttering and freezing?

I have played DAI more than 100 hours now, and even with lot of problems I've encountered (and reported here for the most), I enjoy the game, Really. But there's a lot to do for me :

- Possibility to click move like a real PC version (they've already done that with their games, why remove it now ???). Before the game I've seen some videos where they said that the PC version had their attention, it seems not. for me this is just a console's port. I'm really disappointed, but I will wait for future patch to see if Bioware's representatives will be true to their words and do a really worthy PC version.

- Fixing Bugs like npc being stuck in the ground or appearing magically upon our head, or in front of us during a cinematic. Sound's not playing sometimes...all these things that break the immersion.

- Zoom out increased in the  Tactical View (because it is tactical view, no ? the way it is now is everything but tactical for me, it is just an Action View with pause on it).

- Possibility to have more than one action to chose in tactical mode ?

- A key mapping to Hide/Unhide the interface, Because this game is so beautiful and I like to take screens without the HUD without having to go in the menu.

- A key to walk/run, to enjoy the landscape and at some places when you need to be cautious. But this problem could be fix with a click move option (?).

- Possibility to map mouse's buttons 4 and 5 (or more). Because I have a mouse that have 5 buttons, and this is one of the only game where I cannot bind action to these buttons ? And this another point prove to me, that DAI PC was not created with a real will to do a worthy PC version.

- Changing the Hairs please(!) That's my point of view, but I find the hairs for our avatar (especially women) so ugly and unnatural. I had this feeling with Mass effect's hairs, and the problem is the same with DAI. it is not hairs, but just big block of plastic put on the heads for me.

- A more precise communication with players, like a precise list of what they're working on, for their next patches? This will avoid people to ask for corrections that are already on wok in progress.

It was important to make communication before DAI was released, and they made a lot of announcement, and it was very clear and Massive. It would be great to have this kind of consideration now, even when the game is out and sold, because it is just a courtesy for the players who bought the game, and to regain the trust a lot have lost.

Ok I'll stop this list now, and will wait the next move from Bioware and more precisely their direction. Do they want to correct their mistakes and allocate more people to fix things, or do they want to go on like these and concentrate on others games without having a real finished one.

Anyway, for me the game is Great, the team have done a terribly job on it, it would be sad, a waste of talents to let it be unpolished, really. Sorry for the so long post and my bad English  :(

Ah, the purity of yet another 1st poster asking for the same specific pc controls we've been asking for since release...

So raw, so youthful...

I thought I would post some observations and possible workarounds.

It appears there is a pronounced graphical bug following conversations with NPCs etc This is how it manifests; You have good fps lets say (60fps) before entering a menu or dialogue wheel. On exiting your fps drops dramatically to 16-25 fps. It seems worse if you remain looking in the same direction as when you entered the conversation and may recover by rotating the view 180o

Possible Workaround - After the dialogue/menu do a quicksave F5 if the fps drop occurs hit F9 (quickload) and all should be well again. This is the only way I found to solve this issue. I'm running in Sli so its possible its purely an Sli issue but thought I would post it anyway.

Loot collection - in case this hasn't be mentioned before - while in Tactical mode you can click loot showing within your vicinity and your character will move automatically to collect it!

If you already know about this then fine otherwise hope it helps some of you;)

I got that fixed by disabling these 3 processes in the graphics options

1) Ambient Occulsion  turn it OFF

2) Post Processing antiallasing   Turn it OFF

3) Multisampling antialasing again turn this OFF

i have not had ONE DirectX error since i have done this, roughly level 7 up to 13 now, in the keep and using this setup

For me, I found this helped stop DirectX crashes...

If your game is randomly crashing to desktop with DirectX related errors, you must download Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4.

http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=30679

Downloading and installing the update should fix these random crashes.

What a sordid mess BioWare have made of this game! Patching to fix the effin patch because no one at BioWare apparently was able to spot the glossy barbie doll hair or the abhorrent aging effects of the character model skin. Seriously makes me wonder if this patch was ever tested by BioWare's QA department. There are only two options really:

A) if it was tested then the QA department is utterly incompetent

B if it wasn't tested then it clearly demonstrates the continued lack of attention BioWare is giving the PC format of the game.

And now people are reporting all kinds of game-breaking technical problems with the hotfix patch. Heck, at this point I don't even trust BioWare's QA enough to install the hotfix.

We have been waiting for a month for basic bug fixes that were promised in the first patch, such as the auto-centering of the tactical camera. Yet none of the important bugs have been fixed and more technical problems have been introduced by the incompetence of BioWare's half-assed patching.

My patience has run out. I am done beta testing and gonna hit that uninstall button that has been tempting me for a while now. Maybe in a few month the game will be patched to a degree where I will be able to enjoy it on PC. Needless to say that the game in its present state is NOT going under the Xmass tree of anyone asking me what to buy.

Congratulations for making Game of the Year. Sorry that I don't share that pipe-dream.

So mash the quicksave & quickload buttons after dialogue, Got it.

And look, yet another expected pc control that only works in Tac Cam but curiously was left out of "Action Cam".

My copy is sitting under the Christmas tree right now, and I am sure it will run just great by the 25th of December. I have dual 512 Gig SSD drives in RAID zero , an Intel CPU 2700K and an Asus GTX570 Direct CU 2 factory over clocked. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and the latest Nvidia driver. The person above is correct , people are complaining too much and people are getting turned off by those comments. Us Canadians never quit and Bioware will fix it. Only a stupid company would develop a game for the consoles only. They are working on the patch and so what if people do not have shiny boots. Let's make the game stable first, then worry about your hair colour. I have faith in you Bioware loved all your games from the first Dragon Age to all 3 Mass Effect games. Keep up the good work and let's get this game working.

Alright so, here's my report:

After the initial hotfix installation, game didn't start. The repair function fixed this.

Shiny hair is gone (meshes on high), age and face texture look right, stubble is there, scars are there. Game looks like I'm used to from before the patch.

I also followed these steps from the helpdesk

So I don't know if it was this or the hotfix, but now the stuttering is gone.

So thank you Bioware and thank you Trooperr2, I'm happy again and can enjoy my first free weekend in 3 weeks :)

---

And as a reminder to those who are missing scars or have shiny hair post hotfix: You need to have meshes at least on "High" setting in order to see all this.

yes, the repair + computer restart seemed to fix all of my stuttering, too, what was left after updating to Dec 9 AMD.

Having said that, I haven't applied the hotfix yet. After a couple of hours getting it to work after Patch 2 I'm too afeared.

Not with a 590 you won't its a much older card that performs worse than a single 770 and not to mention its a dual GPU card which most games have issues with,I'd suggest replacing your card with something more modern

that's not the problem.  did you miss the part where i said i was playing this game fine before the patch?  also,  there's not one bit of difference in the stuttering problem when i change graphics settings from the highest to the lowest.  i ran both a cpu and gpu utilization program to see where the bottleneck was while in game.  the cpu was 100% saturated across all 4 cores (at all times), while the gpu's ranged from 29-80% depending on the on screen activity, never 100%.  now, i don't know if you're tech savvy enough to do the math on that, but what does that tell you?

this game is horribly optimized, with terrible sli support, and a cpu hog.

as for my old 590, pull up tom's hardware hierarchy chart and see where the 590 ranks.  it's still a decent card and equal in performance to a 770.  more than enough to play this game.  hell, i can play BF4 on good settings on 3 monitors!  i'm only playing at 1080p on 1 monitor with this game.

Yea, it's def not the 590.

I'm betting there's a subset of different background apps causing the stuttering, and the majority of the people affected by it have them running but don't know it because the apps hide the settings.

Could be drivers, AV, anything.

I doubt it my system is far more modern and more powerful than yours with the exception of SSD's and even I am having issues getting it to run smoothly on my PC which runs Star Citizen,Shadow of Modor,Crysis 3 and other more demanding titles on the highest settings in 2560x1440 without any crashes, lag, stutter etc.Let me give you a shakedown of how its gone so far:

At Launch: Looked great, but crashed and stuttered everywhere M/KB layout so counter-intuitive and frustratingly unusable I had to switch to a gamepad.

Day 1 patch: No change at all.

Patch 2 Game crashed more often, everyone got shiny hair on all settings, graphics were so downgraded that even on Ultra if you were not sitting in front of a high end gaming PC you'd swear you were playing it on a Xbox 360.

Patch 3 graphics fixed, stability marginally improved, except now my Dual R9 290's have gone up in temp from their maximum of 79C to 89C on the same settings.M/KB is still as bad as before.

And you say people complain too much.............the reality is your too complacent settling whatever half baked job they do instead of demanding they do their job right in the first place.

I deleted the ProfileOptions_profile in C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition\Save and it worked. You should make a copy of the file somewhere before deleting it tho.

Thanks for the tip. My problem was actually more about using Dragon Age Keep before the release hit stores and there wasn't either an export button or I didn't notice it/didn't export it.

The game should refrain from notifying users with the message which looks like it did imported something customized by the user. They should at least change it to something like "Yo, default Warden and BroHawke shaped your DAI universe." or listing imported important choices (much better option).

I had only one world, so I figured it the app used my only one. But then I visited Keep and noticed backstories are different.

Starting a new game after I exported the world into DAI worked for me. Timestamp in Importer matched the one in Keep and then I checked Keep and backstories matched too.

I am glad this one is sorted out, hopefully for good.

--

As for drivers and the error message, I updated from 14.11 to 14.12 and it still appears, everything is same expect for the driver which is correctly mentioned (14.12).

I will try to apply Xalzias' setup advices.
