Been stalking this page for sometime and noticed a few issues arising, I was wondering if someone could help me answer the following questions as I'm getting my new pc delivered in about 3 hours:

1) What graphics settings should I have for a 1920 x 1080 monitor which would allow me ideally near 60 fps

2) What's DA:I like with Nvidia drivers at the moment, seeing it was built for AMD

3) Do I need to do any work arounds before I start the game?

Specs are as follow:

System Base Price
NZXT Lexa S, Black Mid Tower Performance Gaming Case with Side Window
750W FSP Quiet Power Supply - Silver 80 PLUS
MSI B85M-E45 Intel® B85 uATX Motherboard
New 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4790K Quad Core Processor (4.0GHz - up to 4.4GHz, 8MB Cache)
8GB DDR3 1866MHz Memory (2x4GB) Kit
4GB NVIDIA GTX 970 Gaming GPU, 1664 Cores, DP/DVI/HDMI
1TB SATA III 6Gb/s, 7200rpm, 64Mb Cache, 8ms Hard Drive
Integrated 7.1 High Definition 8-channel Audio
Microsoft Windows® 8.1 - 64 bit inc. DVD & Licence

With this spec, you should be able to run the game on full ultra settings. Just crank it all up to the max and see.

As for resolution, keep it at the native 1920x1080 at 60Hz - I've tried using 4k resolution (or close to it) and it severely impacts performance with very little visual gain.

The GTX 970 has also proven to be one of the best cards for DAI.. I have one too and my game is 100% stable.

[edit]

Also worth mentioning, I am only using the 30FPS cutscene fix, no other tweaks at all. I am getting 50-60 FPS consistently.

And make sure you DISABLE Origin in-game and don't use any overlays. DAI does not like overlays.

I found out that Origin overlay gimps the game down a lot, but Steam does not. Plus it's browser is usable and I uploaded a lot of screenshots that way too :P

Maybe it's because Origin overlay has achievements, multiplayer features, etc.

Getting rid of the overlay also makes the achievement sound quieter.  I had forgotten to disable the overlay when I first started the game.  That achievement sound effect made me jump out of my skin due to the volume of it.  I know there is ways to change the sound file, but I think just disabling Origin in game is less hassle.

Why is Freaking Origin forcing me to update the freaking game?

I mean for fark sake.

This is why I hated ORIGIN, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER.

WHAT IS THE POINT OF TURNING OFF AUTOMATIC UPDATES WHEN YOU ARE FORCED TO DO AN UPDATE?

You need to play in offline mode Origin if you don't want it to force you to update.

Edit : maybe thi will help people to disable useless effect in game like the fog or blur and get better perfromance

Ah, the purity of yet another 1st poster asking for the same specific pc controls we've been asking for since release...

So raw, so youthful...

My biggest concern has already been stated, but I'd like to emphasize anyway:

  • Auto-run/Auto-hit/controls in general:

Why would you scrap something that DA players have liked or gotten used to? So I sincerely hope, you can somehow implement an option to return to the old controls (at least to a certain degree). It might make sense for console gameplay, but it really doesn't fit DA, especially on PC. Having played for about 2 hours it's bugging me, that I have to place my character right in front of an enemy or object to attack/move. That said DA II's Garret might have jumped around a tad too much, but the gameplay was way more fluent.

  • In-game language:

I have bought DA:I from the German Origin-store. Unfortunately the download version doesn't already contain english voice over and (unlike retail version?!) you can't seem to download this separately. I uninstalled the game, changed the language in my origin-client and hopefully it will work now, but it should be a lot easier than this.

Another more general concern that doesn't quite belong here:

  • The dialogs.

It kills the mood when the only answer to an NPC's quest is "Goodbye". Not even something like "I'll look into it" or anything! Does anyone know if this is getting better?

NPC: "Everything's going down the mill, please help here and there, please!!!"

Hero: "Goodbye" "*Quest received".

That apart I'm quite pleased with the stability to this point (although I read it might get worse).

I'm running DA:I on a laptop (i7 2670 @2.2GHz, 8GB RAM, Geforce gt540m 1ghz) which should be below minimum system requirements and it's tolerable.

I bought the game with the option to return and I am going to keep it as I trust and/or hope that you can get the controls fixed.

In my case it's true. All the patch-issues are gone and the stuttering defeated. I'm too busy recording cutscenes, to keep track of the forum as before ;D

Most issues are being discussed in AHQ. That's the main reason. For soe ppl, stuttering and freezing are a big problem now.

I've tired of trying to play but I have 3 character saves which I may revive once the crashes are sorted out.

You'd think that after the two previous games of dumb companion ai that they'd at least address some of those issues. I really don't get why Solas needs to charge into melee range when he's a mage. He's not a warrior mage , he's just a mage and as such should have enough "brains" to attack from range. Nope we can't have that its way better to have him close to the bear so the bear can do his stand on two legs and pound the ground aoe attack. Yep that's certainly is fresh in terms of combat. But Iron can't you just go into tactical cam, move Solas to a different position and double right click the ground so he'll stay? Yes I can do that but what if I want free flowing combat without the use of tactical camera? Shouldn't my companions have the bare minimum "intelligence" at the very least? Why would I want to move my DW rogue into position for back stabs when I can have infinitely more enjoyment from moving Solas out of harm's way. It would be really nice if this was addressed in a future patch along with keyboard and mouse functionality. I don't need to rotate my character while in the inventory menu. I need keys that allow me to quickly access menus and sub menus without having to use the mouse. It's very tedious, while at home base, to craft a piece of gear, and having to click, click, click to finally find the companion who I want to put the gear on. You'd think that having a "tab" key or something would be better.

So before the patch and the hotfix.....the game only ran my cpu up to between 60% and 75% during load times...Yeah it would fluctuate. So if i was playing this game with low settings but with a forced Ultra shader setting......why if its now fixed to match the mesh setting....is my cpu peaking up at 100% while loading? If the ultra shader setting has been fixed to match low mesh.....why is it worse? That just doesn't make sense. No i dont have a high end computer. I'm currently in the slow process of upgrading my Pc so atm i'm playing this game on my laptop. However the cpu is just above minimum specs so.....in theory it should run better now? Yea?.....

Am I correct that the main "pluses" of this patch are more frequent banter and searchable objects being easier to see? Would those who didn't have a lot of problems pre-patch say these upgrades are worth it?

I've been able to get the game to run pretty smoothly after a few initial adjustments with graphics drivers and settings - load times are a little long, but no crashes or obvious bugs aside from annoyingly loud background music in Skyhold. I'm trying to decide if it's worth the risk / time of running this and then possibly having to try to undo it if I end up with the problems that some people are reporting.
