The menus and ui were so far superior in DA:O that it makes me exceedingly sad that this is what we are left with in 2014 (almost 2015). It isn't progress or 'next gen' that has failed the pc version, it is just really, really bad design decisions. I even played a bit with my XBox 360 controller and quite honestly, it wasn't any better. Not having a Nexxus page for DA:I is down right depressing as I remember how quickly 'SkyUI' was released to remedy the horrible ui in Skyrim.

And that's the whole problem. We are totally dependent on the developers to fix things up as we cannot rely on Nexxus (and/or Steam Workshop) modders to make DA:I a truly great pc title. The Skyrim modders on both the Steam Workshop and the Nexxus have spoiled me (us?) enough to have too high of expectations I guess.  DA:I is still a great game, but for myself, it will never have that 'Golden Age' like Skyrim had (has) due to the lack of moddability.

Very soon Bioware will have to pull their resources from post-release support (patching) to releasing DLC, so I think the time-table for them to make any substantial changes will be coming to a close in January. Can they do both? I don't know, but I get this distinct impression that they would prefer not to have to 'fix' too much more or release any more major patches after the next one. Just a hunch I guess.

Is there a fix for the mouse not being locked to the game when playing on a PC with more than one monitor?  This is a very annoying issue for me.  The cursor in game is hard to see sometimes and because it allows it to go off the game into my other monitor, sometimes I'll end up right clicking trying to move the camera and all of a sudden the game minimizes and I'm back to the desktop.  I have issues with the PC controls in general, which baffle me considering Origins had great PC controls, but this issue should not exist for a PC game in 2014.

Hey everybody,

I've been reading up here on the forums regarding the state of the PC version, and I'm seeing a lot of mixed opinions (albeit more towards the negative side).  Some people are saying it is [barely] playable while others outright say it isn't playable at all.

I just wanted to know, functionally speaking, has the game improved after the patch? I understand there are UI problems, but if I just grit my teeth and use a controller will I be okay? Are there optimization problems? ( If it helps, my specs are listed below).  I'm going on break this Friday after finals so I just wanted to know if I should pick it up or hold off a bit longer.  Thanks a ton guys.

Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45

GPU: ASUS Strix GTX 970

CPU: i5 4690k

RAM:  16GB DDR3 CL9 2133MHz

SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB

HDD: WDB 1TB

PSU: EVGA 750W

Obviously its above the recommended specs, but I am seeing people complaining about issues regardless so I wanted to know if the listed setup will be okay with dealing what this game throws at it.

I remember a couple hundred pages ago someone suggesting that, because Bioware Fangirl #1 Felicia Day was playing another game, that that said a lot about Inquisition as a game, I hope to correct that notion by posting this.

Seems she's enjoying it and just got a late start.

Are you playing yet, Brogan? Or still fiddling around in the CC?

I'm wondering if I should buy the game now, wait for the next patch, or shrug it off and put myself into waiting for PoE mode.

1. There are very positive press reviews, some of the independent reviewers also praised DA: Inquisition, it won several GotYs

2. There is a huge amount of negative fan feedback, and it comes mostly from PC users. Some of the independent reviewers criticize story, MMO side quest design, control, poor combat. I know that should be taken with a grain of salt, but such things are core aspects of gaming for me.

I understand you have the game. From what I gathered there's no substantial information about the content of the fixes or ETA.

My question is:

do you wish you hadn't buy it at all;

the negative feedback is blown out of proportion and it exists mostly due to misleading marketing information;

or maybe you are convinced the issues will be addressed in future patch?

If they think I'm going to buy any DLC, or another BioWare/EA game before they fix THIS one ... they better think again.

Is anyone having this problem after the PC patches :

Controls, graphics and key mapping reverts to default when restarting the game. Origins In Game overlay is disabled as is cloud saving in the Origins setting. Game is saved before exiting.

Controls: controller vibration, post processing, ambient occlusion, post processing anti-aliasing and multi-anti-aliasing.

Its weird because this was happening before disabling Origins overlay now since the patches it is back. I think it is a coding error but...

Still cannot sprint - can anyone use the sprint option?

Sprint only works as "gallop" for me (ie, horseback), since launch. Patch didn't affect either way.

I think that once you add a multiplayer component to the game, you pretty much get rid of the ability to mod. Besides Bioware has this game locked down like Fort Knox so even though there will be a few stalwart individuals who will slug it out to make some mods I don't think you'll see that many. If you look back at Skyrim even Bethesda was hesitant releasing the creation kit. If anyone wants to get an idea how truly remarkable skyrim is modded check out Skyrimtuner on youtube. His videos are amazing and his rig isn't over the top killer.

Apparently sprint is only for multiplayer from what I've read.

Thank you. I guess there is only 1 mode for single  player then.

On the horse, you can use sprint to gallop?

Ah well.

You hit shift once on horseback to sprint, it does run out after a while and you'll have to hit it again but it lasts quite long.

I never saw this video before launch and I've just watched it for the second and third time now. When she says, "combat HUD" what does that mean to you?

The HUD is the action bar at the bottom of the screen.

So that's related to, but not the same as, a "Head-Up Display" in an aircraft? I'm just curious. I'm trying to decide how consciously deceitful I think that video is.

I've very patiently been playing through all the crashes of this game, quicksaving every 30 seconds (mostly). I've come to the point where this really great game doesn't appeal to me anymore. All because of the graphics crashes. I'm by heart a roleplayer and immersion is key for me. The problem is, as soon as you feel "into the game", it crashes.

The story has been great so far and has kept me going. Until now. I'm very disappointed. So I'm putting DA:I on the backburner for now.

Please, fix this wonderful game!

Wow, I just updated with the second patch/hotfix, the one after patch 2, and my previously smooth as butter game now stutters every few seconds making it unplayable.

I can barely even navigate the menus because it freezes up for a solid 2-3 seconds every 2-3 seconds. damn.

Although, on a bright note, until the stuttering I didn't quite realize how pretty some of the combat effects are when they are frozen mid swing/cast for a second every 3 seconds.

Edit: too bad I can't un-update. Then I can just not update until a revised tac cam is out.

Try to load game via the geforce experience (after optimising it again). Fixed hotfix induced stutter for me.

Ironhorse384,

Thanks. the problem is when I hit shift nothing happens- I've only been able to rebind 2 keys-as all others will crash the game if I remap then hit the key.

Ok Thanks - will try it again.

+1 Bazillion likes SkyUI,Frostfall,SkyFalls+SkyMills,RaceMenuW.A.T.E.R,Wet and Cold,The Dance Of Death and Cabals AMB are so essential that I can't play Skyrim without them.I'd love to know what the **** they were thinking when they reskinned the console UI from the diamond layout you see on the right hand side to a horizontal bar and then had the audacity in that video to claim that the UI we do have was "specifically made for the PC" did they honestly think that BS would fly that we wouldn't notice?.

As for the latest so called "patch" while it has fixed the total assjob they did with patch 2 the temp of my GPU's have gone up by 10C to 89C so now I'll have to spend $500 getting waterblocks and a custom waterloop to cool them so thanks a bunch Bioware.

From what I've been reading and what I've seen, it's literally a hit or miss. My specs are about the same as yours. I've had some freezes and spontaneous crashes. If you can get over UI issues and make Quicksaving an absolute habit then you should have no trouble. I'd say play without the patch and see how things go. If everything works? Just don't patch. If you are having a lot of trouble then cross your fingers that the patch helps more than hinders. If you can get the game to work - it is really fun.

Also, good luck on finals, kiddo! o7

I'm personally very excited to see what they come up with, when it comes to PC controls. :) I have faith that BioWare is doing their very outmost to get a PC control patch out the door. However, the holidays are upon us so I wouldn't expect a PC patch this year - the developers need to be with their friends and family after all. =)

Luckily, I'm a patient man. When I finally get the PC control patch and (hopefully) it makes the game more familiar to me, I can't wait to dig into the undoubtedly awesome story (and characters!) that is the trademark of any BioWare game.

I'm OK with waiting for controls, AI, etc. ... but the crashing and instability issues need to be fixed now.

You better believe if I screwed-up a job like they have I wouldn't be getting time off until I fixed it, assuming I still had a job.
