Haha, the game doesn't even start now. Not that it was really playable before given the control scheme, but at least it looked good. A waste of $80.94 (Amazon total).

I think I'm through with video games for a while.

:( the hotfix did that?

I'm not sure why origin refuses to let us downgrade. As long as we're not playing MP it shouldn't matter. >_>

I was spoilt a little in that I didn't have any major graphical issues from the first. A bit of annoying cutscene stuttering, but I was confident a patch would fix that soon.

But when I got into the game. And was fumbling with the counter-intuitive controls I thought "uh oh". It had been a while since I played DA 2 and I was thinking "was DA2 like this?". I even reinstalled DA 2 to play it and see. I quickly saw the main problems with Inquisition;

People have been talking about Tac Cam a lot, but I think BY FAR the biggest problem is the 'click-to-move/click-to-attach' situation. Having to navigate with WASD right up to an enemy AND click to attack them AND try and use the same fingers to press 1,2,3 etc for abilities AND continue to use WASD to follow the enemies when they move (as they do a lot) AND hold down right-click so you can rotate the camera to where you can see.... IT'S TOO MUCH.

Sure, you can settle for it the way it is. But why should you when they got it so right in the first 2. Why regress! I want to click on some nearby loot and have my character run up to it. I want to click on an NOC and have my character run up and start talking. I want to click on an enemy and have the character run up and attack him. That way my left hand can be used for abilities. This is the biggest problem for me as combat is such a central part of this game. As is looting. And they're both BROKEN.

Adding in the LOOT ALL key was a great addition. Now PLEASE...click to attack/move.

Also - am I remembering wrong or did you used to be able to stack ability commands? I think I'm right. I'd really like to see this added. This and click to move are the only things stopping me from playing/enjoying this game now.

Probably because a single copy is easier/cheaper to maintain than several different copies.

  • I remapped my keys thus and found it a little more workable
  • E-forward
  • D-backward
  • S-turn left
  • F-turn right
  • G-pick up loot and interaction
  • W-attack
  • R-ability
  • A-ability
  • T-ability
  • Q-ability
  • Then you can map your less used abilities to 1,2,3,4 or 2,3,4,5
  • Z-search
  • X-attack my target
  • I didn't remap the tac cam key because I quit using it and also the move left move right keys I didn't bother either. I found the "W" key easier to use for attacking as its not bad holding down both "E" and "W" thus freeing up your index finger for "R" "T" abilities, "G" for looting and finally your pinky for "A" "Q" abilities.

I know many of us are waiting for news on the timing of Patch 3.  Has anyone tweeted Mark Darrah about it (I don't have an account, so I can't)?  Or maybe could someone ask him a bigger question that we might get an answer to....like will the patch be available in weeks, or more than 3 months, or more than 6 months?

Thanks guys, you've been great.

Today I decided to play this game with a gamepad.

I am now convinced that Bioware will not deliver on the now coined words "For PC gamers, by PC gamers." I think it follows that if that was in the works, for PR reasons and for ultimately the revenue of EA, this grand news would have been delivered by now. Yea, they might add a few fixes to the controls like a walk toggle and/or  bindable keys, but in no way will the combat feel on M+kb as solid as it was led to believe. The fact is, the second I see those patch notes on 1.3 or 1.4, or whatever, I will still finish reading the patch notes with a sigh. I know that I won't have the gameplay that I got excited about for many months after Bioware's marketing campaign.

I think we are all done here guys. Let's enjoy the game's strengths, after all, it's still eaWareI'm not a fan of shooters, and hell, I think ME2 and ME3 are both one of the greatest games out there. I know I'll enjoy DA:I and I could bet that I'll have a blast playing it.

But of course, I would encourage all of you guys to have your voice heard. Not here anymore, but out there where you go buy games. You can still like the end product, but we can still show that we want a gaming industry that focuses more on quality than on marketing. We've seen a lot of companies succeed by spending more effort on the former, and that is definitely something that we as consumers have the power to both appreciate and reward. I'm sure that's something that the developers/artists also want, so why still benefit the suits of EA?

Good luck guys, I think that's that.

I'll play to see the story and I guess I'm done watching this forum.

Saw it in September.  They sold out.

You'll always have Origins.  Who knows, maybe some indie will realize, hey, nobody's using this design anymore...  why not put it into our new RPG we are marketing at pc?

Just had another desktop lockup from the war table, but windows audible Directx error pinged, so I'll give this a try.  However, these crashes are few and far between now as it is.

I've mapped my keys like this:

Arrow keys to move (it's what I'm used to since the late 90s with Everquest - cannot get comfortable with WASD).

Delete, End, and Page Down buttons are right above the arrow keys on my keyboard so I mapped like this:

Delete:  Interact

End:  Search

Page Down:  Attack my target

I mapped "Basic Attack" to my Q key so it will be right next to my Ability Slots (1-8) - makes it pretty easy to jump back and forth.

I don't even bother with the tactical camera, what a mess, but then I never really used it much in DAO...mostly just to scroll back to place my AOE spells.

Set up this way, playing as a shield warrior is pretty good, but I REALLY would love to have auto-attack back...the biggest complaint I have. Tried this setup with my DW rogue and it was too cumbersome for my taste since he "has" to move around more than the shield warrior. <shrug>

What irritates me the most, not a PC only issue I'm sure, is how bad the companions are at getting the hell out of the way...so irritating, like watching a bad Three Stooges episode. And we can't just brush past them...like my human warrior isn't capable of getting past Solas and Varric? Please...I could maybe see Cassandra - she'd knock me on my butt. lol I don't remember being it anything close to this bad in DA2. I'm getting to the point where I might take just one or two companions along with me in the future.

Bottom line, for me, is no auto attack seems crazy...and unnecessarily irritating. Oh, yeah, taking away Tactics for the companions too seems stupid too...

Actually what's curious is, if you go back to this thread's beginning, Nov 19th, and start counting the 1st time posters... I don't know who's been following this since then religiously.. but these kinds of posts have been popping up since about the 2nd week in. Always the same basic things, and then we got that Blog entry the night before the patch.

It talked about a lot of stuff, but the author made a point to talk about the PC controls and their plans on further improvements. Now that's no big deal, really. But then it mentioned user requests...

Perhaps somebody from Bioware actually is following this. Who knows....

I've mapped my keys like this:

------------

.....I'm getting to the point where I might take just one or two companions along with me in the future....

I had contemplated solo'ing my first playthrough anyway, and then back in... Oct or so, when they revealed there was no more tactics, it was an easy decision.

+1

And yes, you could 'stack' a little. Vanilla just a stack of 2 commands, with mods it could be more.

As I've said before - even as someone skilled in sensory typing (or 'blind typing' as it is called in some countries) - I've got the feeling I'm short two hands when I play DA:I. Just not fun.

Patch has made the game completely unplayable: can't even start a new game, computer completely locks up and has to be re-started.

FUNNILY ENOUGH, Origins does not have a function called "Contact us to get your money back because Bioware has massively stuffed up".

Any news on the next patch? In addition to the numerous issues that are still not fixed, that problem with the action camera controls, involving holding RMB has actually become a serious health threat for me, it is causing long-term pain in my wrist, I had to completely quit playing the game, because it hurts too much after that. I realise that not everyone may have that reaction, but regardless of how it impacts your health, with the current controls of DAI, having that cursor on the screen all the time is completely nonsensical and pointless.

I would also like to point out that none of the problems I outlined in that thread were actually noticeably fixed in Patch 2. In fact they even seemed to have introduced a new one, as for example all commands clear when you enter tactical mode, so if you tell you controlled character to hold position, and then zoom out, they will not keep that order. And the AI still constantly resets targets upon being CCd, or one of the mages being attacked with a single arrow for example.

Patch 2 was good effort, but I am very concerned that Patch 3 will not fix the major problems with the game. For instance if the RMB issue isn't fixed, I literally can't play the game. Physically. I don't have a controller, and I can't avoid constantly rotating the camera. It would be helpful if they posted a list of "planned" patch notes before releasing the patch.

The regress is the result of a MUST HAVE jump function. They cannot simply create proper pathfinding, having this function in mind, as was written before by devs. So we have the SWTOR-like controls, but even swtor has multiple castbars..

Hmm...instead of a black screen I often get a white screen and it's almost always during a cutscene or when I'm at the wartable. The only way for me to close the game is to ctrl+alt+delete. It's quite irritating when I have to save after every few choices made at the wartable and then go back in and have to see that transition every time. Same goes for having to repeat a conversation or an important story segment due to it. Btw, I'm on a Geforce 660 GTX.

still have the following quirks in the game(think im at patch 2 + the fix for it);

i play mostly in tactics mode

-ctd 's ocasionaly (no errors no messages and nothing in event log)

-cant select a character in tactics mode. sometimes alt tabbing works sometimes have to load a save.

-cant cast spells with a char, the char just goes on doing what its doing and wont cast(tactics mode)

-yesterday i did imshael and the fight slowed down like imoen had cast timestop or something.

after a few minuts everything speeded up again to normal speed.

chars didnt cast spells you ordered, and everything was very very slow motion up to a point i thought i would crash or at least never finish

-the tactics mode sucks big time compared to dragon age origins. like you got 3 idiots with you.

even a simple hold position doesnt work. i mean come on........when i order hold, just stay where you are. how hard is that to program?

funny thing is is still like the game and play it a lot 8-)

The basic game is mindblowing i think, if they just would fix the little quirks

intel core i7 975 @4ghz

6gig tripple channel mem kingston hyperx at 1600mhz

asus rampage 2 mobo

msi nvidia 590 video

ocz revodrive ssd split in 80 gig for winddows 7 c: and 150 for games d:(both have  30gig or more  free space)

2 wd velocy raptors in raid0 for the rest (like swap file and temp files and stuff)

I realize I'm preaching to the choir but...I'ma do it anyway to add my voice to the thread.

Personally, I have had to quit playing the game. I made it 40 hours in, and just couldn't go any further. The controls are beyond awkward. I constantly randomly attack things when I I want to interact with something (Because 20 years of pc gaming tells me clicking on a person means i will go talk to them). The binding options are garbage--you cannot bind shift / ctrl modifiers for whatever reason. I'd like to have my entire set of abilities, potions, grenades all bound to the left side of the keyboard...can't do that without modifiers. Can't unbind the mouse click-to-attack, etc. Tac cam....omg tac cam. I think my biggest frustration there was not being able to pan the screen with the mouse while in overhead zoom out mode. I feel like thats what should happen when I zoom out. Not, turn into spectator mode that is controlled by WASD.

Talking about tac cam...the thing that sucks most about is that BECAUSE tac cam is so poorly optimized/designed for PC, I can't play anything past normal difficulty because it requires tac cam. And requiring tac cam to me is making the game more difficult  not due to the mechanics of the game but due to the frustration of trying to use a broken interface. To the people out there that can, kudos to you. I wanted to play a dual-wield rogue but if I don't micro him he does stupid crap and gets himself killed, problem is--so do all the mages and really anyone being controlled by the ai. Maybe theres a class out there that I could play on nightmare with and never have to enter tac cam, I heard KE does that, but I shouldn't be forced to play a class to play a higher difficulty. Anyway--playing in normal also makes the game extremely boring because this game is far too easy at that difficulty. They give you massive world to explore but if you start exploring too much you outlevel everything making the game trivial.

Its really too bad because the game looks beautiful and I was getting into the story. But...even after 40 hours I just could not get past the awful interface/input options.

What a disaster this release has been, like many i'm sure were expecting probably the best game of the year but quickly turned into probably the wrost experience this year. For me on day 1 with patch just had black screen and was so frustrated then patch 2 finally arrives and thought great i'll actually get to play my game but how wrong could i be? Then a hotfix which in effect patches the patch and guess what i got past the black screen so i thought progress at last but hell no it just frozen on the menu screen showing 0.0 FPS so yes pretty damn angry to tell you the truth.

Seeing so many people on here having the same or similar issue's has at least made me feel a little less annoyed, BW used to be great at communicating with their fanbase but it's all changed now and a month after release and no game to play i just decided to cut my losses and uninstalled so i'm going to leave it at least a year before coming back, this is one shoddy release all round and my view of EA or BW has certainly changed and i'm for one am NOT impressed but i do hope that they deliver a game in full working order to their customers eventually and i feel all your pain everyone.

In all my years working within the industry i've never experienced a game with so many issue's like DAI, at least you communicate and engage with your fanbase but that doesn't seem to have happened on this occasion so makes me kind of sad and annoyed but if i did that to my customers i would be bankrupt in no time at all and isn't a very good way to do business so EA and BW you really should look at yourselves and feel very ashamed and a lot of people including me will remember this experience but at least there are great alternatives out there so good luck everyone.
