Try this putting in the game properties "-GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60+".  This makes the cutscenes run at 60fps insted of 30fps.  That solved the cpu overheating for me, so no game crashes any more.

I ended up having to rollback my NVIDIA driver to 344.65 and restart my computer after. I played for about an hour and a half without any crashes. I've tried that command line before and it only slows everything down and makes my players look like they're running in slow motion.

Would "BioWare Hate Forum" be more accurate? Because that's what this is really about. According to some people in this thread, Inquisition was the last straw. BioWare has burned them far too many times now .....

Actually, no, that's not what 'this' is about at all.  I do not feel Bioware has "burned" me before.  In fact that is why I pre-ordered without question.

Bioware has been one of my all time favorite sources of pc gaming for a while now, going back all the way to BG.

What this is really about is the Bioware turning the franchise that THEY started on the PC into a console exclusive, with a weekend's worth of pc design thrown onto the back-end.  It's about them turning their back (or firing those who refused to) on the pc community that gave them their start in the business.  It's about the continuing lack of communication to even acknowledge there's issues with the pc port.

So really, according to your post, you haven't read very much of this thread at all, and are basically talking out of your ***.

What are your thoughts on the kickstarter program? I purchased Wasteland 2 early access on steam and since the full version was released in Sept there have been five major patches. They seem to be working really hard at supporting the game and fixing the bugs but it is for the pc only.

We might be getting a tad off topic here - sorry moderators - but it's an enjoyable discourse, so forgive me if I indulge :P

Crowdfunding in general (disclaimer: I have backed and created projects) has inherent risks: you might get your game, you might not. That said, typically you are not dealing with a AAA development house, so the thing about Greenlight, Crowdfunding, Early Access etc is they - typically - try harder. I just threw in for Naval Action; it's in beta, it's rough, but their customer communication is strong and energetic, and I like that.

Not all indie developer "get" client communication - it is, after all, a skill that warrants books, seminars, and training sessions - but some are better than others. You run risks - crowdfunded or otherwise - but the thing about Wasteland is they were pretty upfront, they've come through, and they seem to be focused on keeping a good product going. Or, I should say, BUILDING a company. People who want to build and grow ... these guys will want to keep you happy.

But in all fairness their size helps them do this: the bigger you get, the harder it is to be efficient and develop consistently high quality merchandise while simultaneously having your eyes and mouth (marketing) know what is accurately going on behind the scenes. You start layering in departments and teams and management ... and each time you do that, you start breaking down the channels of effective communication.

This is where the indie companies get to excel - they don't have that challenge.

(slightly off topic from this, but I have first hand experience with a company so large, that when there is a software issue, they don't even know what team to talk to - world wide - to get a fix in place. It is an utterly surreal experience to see a monothlic company floundering away like a beached whale).

I didn't get the want to continue choice. I had update, play and when I picked play it said I couldn't til I updated.

I believe the update is to the Origins client and not the game itself. I fear you have no other choice.

Question: Of those who can play the game, anyone else f*cking hate the codex's interface? It's "bad" enough the loadings don't give enough time to read the ones that appear on loading screens (and whoever designed decided it was better not to ask for confirmation before leaving the screen, for some reason), but whenever I feel like looking up a particular entry I take one look at this great design where you are just shown a bunch of images and have to hover over them individually until you find what you're looking for and just think "why".

Hell, it's not even a "console interface" problem, in fact, i'd argue it's even more annoying with a controller. At least put the title of the entries over the images, I dunno. Who thought of this? :<

Yes. I tried to PAUSE while the game was loading but apparently the command is disabled.

Yes, I was going to say, it's not "new" DLC at all. I already have it for buying deluxe. I'll never use it, either, unless Brogan or someone wants to Multiplay after they've fixed everything. Not big on MP in my SP games.

(I am not against MP. I'm a GM of a WoW Guild, so... can't be ;) )

Appreciate it, but I have no desire to play Inquisition multiplayer, even if they re-created the entire UI from Origins.

For MP, I'm more of a BF4 type.  Ya know, where you are allowed to map 'jump' to RMB...

Bioware seems to be trying to bring people's focus onto its MP recently, first with reported main menu popups (though I've never encountered it) and now with a free MP expansion. Is it because it's where the microtransactions are?

So, after reading about the state of this game now....I'm thinking it's in my best interests to wait for this game to hit the "bargin bin"?

Sounds like it will be there soon.

What a shame.....this game looked so amazing.

The game scenery IS amazing. The computer human interface? meh..

Since the patch (and hotfix) came out, the in-game refresh rate doesn't respond anymore.

For example, if I want to set the refresh rate from 1920x1080 60hz to 1920x1080 30hz or 24hz (to activate 3D), the game no longer responds to this and doesn't actually set the refresh rate. It just stays at the default 60hz (despite showing the new refresh rate in the menu). This only started happening after the patch.

I'm connected to a 46" Samsung 3DTV via HDMI cable.

Anybody else having this issue?

They have many things to fix, and from the way they quickly released a hot fix days after the first major patch, you'd think there was a certain level of competence at Bioware. However, from many reports, people that could play before the patch, now can't. And people that had trouble playing, now can. So clearly there's a problem with their patching process. Something was broken along with whatever was fixed.

They also promised some pc control fixes in the next patch. I don't know if you're a pc gamer, but if I were you I'd at least wait until that releases, and read the patch notes.

Hmm...

I would answer yes and no... or no and yes...

If you recall, there was a workaround pre-hotfix patch and the removal of the workaround post-hotfix patch. plus, the complainers don't give anything usefull regarding the above....

Personally, without this type of diagnostic information, I have no sympathy for someone that calls me up and simply says, "my computer is not working". yeah.. I can really help you with that! Don't forget, some are t r o l l s or s**t disturbers, as well

I guess the reason I asked is that they seem to be genuinely trying to make their customers happy while keeping the lines of communication open. This thread calmed down quite a bit when there was Bioware Q/A guy in here talking to people. Some people were pretty angry but for the most part the posts were respectful and civil. Regardless of whether or not they can physically do anything I think that posting once in awhile and giving up updates would satisfy some, not all, people. A lot of the anger I see from people is that Bioware took their money, didn't delivery on the product that was promised and are ignoring them.

Ughh...  So much that I agree with here.

The thing is, I just don't think they would put that into an official blog post and reference a patch after the patch they are releasing without any intention of actually doing so.

But yes, the idea that I would have to play a Dragon Age game as if it were a shooter (with wasd) is disappointing to me.  But It's not the worst thing.  Hell, I've played shooters my whole life on pc using that system.  But DA has always been about the party, about the CC combo's, about managing combat by using all the different resources spread over 4 players.  If that's gone now, and we are basically playing The Witcher in Thedas...  I guess that's fine.

But I'm still not even going to attempt to play until there's no more quest/dialogue bugs, no more chances I'll lose content because of a cutscene crash, or until I can map at least some controls to my frikking mouse.

Yeah, the more that I play, the more I am inclined to think that this game does have an identity crisis. There is nothing wrong with FPS or 3rd person action rpgs, top down diablo style action rpgs etc.

I love them all. I play different games for different reasons. If i'm in the mood for an ARPG i'll fire up Path of Exile or D3 or another. FPS?, then any number of them. RTS?, your choice!...An open world single player, dungeon crawling roam and explore?, then Skyrim or oblivion etc...

That's the thing, with those games, you know what they are. You know what you are in for. I think that's the reason for the incredible success of the Elder Scrolls games, most notably Skyrim. I love that game. I have countless hours in it. But, it doesn't pretend to be something that it isn't. Love it or hate it, it is what it is and always has been.

That's why I think DA has this identity crisis going on. I understand wanting to combine a 3rd person perspective with overhead tac, DAO did it well. Zooming in to your party is awesome!!!  This game seems like it is born of the various genres. Seeing successes and trying to incorporate things from them all and doing none of them very well. Especially the overhead mode which the namesake begs. And quite frankly this franchise could fill that vacuum in the gaming world as the flagship.

I also love the tactical party based RPG, but DA seems to be in a position where it isn't sure if it wants to be that anymore. And at that point, I have not much use for it. I'd rather fire up the enhanced older games or NWN/2 etc...

But, like I said, i'll play DAI as a third person non party game to see the story, which frankly has been very entertaining so far. I skipped DA2, but bought into th DAI hype. I assure you that it won't happen again. As a genre of computer gaming RPG, it seems to be lost.

It's not fair to blame the programmers. I get it, I really do, but it also shows a nativity of software development and the entire team behind this title (yes, I am working at a software company, and yes, I should probably be working and not posting :P)

The programmers are assigned their tasks.

The programmers are given x-amount of time to get it done.

A team lead may well play a part in how it is implemented.

A Technical director may well play a role in influences HOW it is done.

A Production direction will say how quickly it has to be done ... even if that's an unreasonable target.

Every programmer, every team, every team lead, will have different skill levels and accuracy; everything rolls up to a QC team/process.

Bugs will be searched for, tracked, and then a team will sit down and prioritize which of those - if found - will get fixed.

While the production director influences what won't get worked on due to time/budget concerns.

All of the time a deep management team will be heavily influencing timeline.

A design team (User experience) came up with the menus, options available, and dictated how things would work: "you click this, that happens," "on this menu are options X, Y, and Z"

So at the end of the day, the programmer is but one piece of a large and complex web: he/she is told what to program, when, and how it will work.

You're blaming the guy who wrote the line of code, but not the people who told him how to write it, the fact that he didn't have enough time to write it, the manager who changed his mind half way through, the UX designer who made the decision on the WASD keys, the QC team who missed the bugs, or the team who prioritized what would be fixed and what wouldn't.

At the end of the day - with game development - typically the programmers are the last people to blame.

Yep.. That is how it works, folks...

Same, I don't know how any PC player would have seen this coming.

Though looking back there were plenty of hints; like every single promotional video Bioware made - they were all using controllers - except for that one PC marketing video. Either way, I have my guard up now for future Bioware releases. I thought they were over their console favoritism that began with JE but I guess not.

Yes, I agree;in hindsight, it seems obvious (I said as much in my very first post on this topic).

Pity, really. Because this backlash is all so unnecessary. They had a good thing and broke it.

So, when is patch 3 coming, again?

What is patch 3 supposed to fix? Which requests are, please, actually going to really implement in game and which you will not?

Just be straight forward with us Bioware -- something professional and serious, for example: "this we ARE going to do soon (less than a month); this we will take time but will do as well (one to two months); this we will just try buy don't hope for it; this will NOT be done."

Don't just keep us waiting and hoping -- simply imagining, with no clue at all from you, what is going to be implement further into DAI broken gameplay and interface and truly waiting that you do it. I want to know if there is reason to wait for, and what are the changes we can expect to be implement in DAI for certain.

URGENT MATTERS (I think most of the community will agree, and I do see this problems bellow as the most complained about here -- just check early posts):

_Camera zoom (more, on all modes, specially the Tactical Camera mode)

_Click to move and orders available in pause mode (not ONLY in tactical camera mode)

_AI keeping commands, orders, given in Tactical Camera Mode even when you leave it (Tactical Camera mode).

_Walk/Run Toggle

Medium~longterm matters:

_UI (what everyone is saying).

_AI (actually making it better and more configurable).

BIOWARE, please, give it to us STRAIGHT AND CLEAN...
Which of these needed DAI changes above are certainly coming with patch 3, please?

Sorry, but due to the TOTAL LACK of updates in the last days, regarding real gameplay and interface changes requested by practically every PC Gamer since day one (Tactical Camera Zoom, please? Not a WORD from Bioware about it...), it does seems Bioware doesn't even care about their own forum anymore... At least not this one thread.

With all the issues already discussed I must bring some attention to the currently limited ability slots as well - only 8.

This issue can be easily remedied by a slot group switch, similar to Neverwinter Nights, DAO, and DOS. This way you can multiply the amount of abilities available without having to change the whole HUD.

8 isn't enough, you'll need at least 16.

If you want more zoom on tac cam, get the cheat engine. Works great. You don't have to use the other cheats.

Errr... Already do, as you can see above. Many of us do.

That doesn't change anything for Bioware ( http://www.metacriti...age-inquisition) and the needed changes they must implement to DAI gameplay and interface. INCLUDING Tactical Camera officially improved zoom (and much more, as already stated by everyone here).
