I'm sure we're all trying, it's just slightly difficult what with your company:

  • Releasing a rushed game with content not in which was said to be included
  • Lying regarding the intentions of the game for PC players
  • Releasing a patch which has caused more issues than was originally identified
  • Having no details for a hotfix besides 'we're looking into it'
  • Refusing to communicate with the players

But hey! at least we have you in here, maybe a few more mods could come in with more insipid comments and I'm sure that'd help everyone!

ah stahp, let's keep this thing civilized. maybe people will learn by example, hmm?

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but here goes -

AMD just came out with an update to the Catalyst Suite; version 14.5. Has anyone here uploaded to that version? Any impact on the game?

It helps a little but not much,Bioware's patch 2 and hotfix pretty much fucked it all up again

Unlike quite a few people I seem to have been able to play through on my PC with little or no problems relating to crashing; but having finished my first play through I thought I would go back and try again, this time take the side quests seriously and maybe start a little romance.

It seems to be that this 2nd play through has prompted all the DirectX errors and crashes to desktop that others have experienced, but seeing as I started my 2nd playthrough within an hour of finishing my first I cannot understand why this would suddenly start to happen.  Of course I will try all the fixes suggested, but at the same time, I'm confused why it works fine for playthrough one and then dies a death as soon as I start #2.

Let's keep On Topic and try to be polite to each other.

People are getting antsy because Mr Darrah et all don't come in here to give an update but continously post marketing hype and hyperbole on Twitter,The people responsible for this mess and the deliberate lies told in that "made by pc gamers for pc gamers" video or someone high up in the company coming in here and offering a apology and some form of renumeration for those affected might go some way to calming things down.

As soon as I started a second PC the freezes started again. Ad nauseam... it took me three tries to get to the milestone save. Waiting for the 3rd patch. Anyone else tried the new NVidia beta drivers 347.09 released Dec 17 ?

Someone high up....well, Mark Darrah is Executive Producer! So if he can't be bothered with his fans, then who will?

If I was a Bioware emplyee, I would be cringing from embarrassment around now...

I have the new drivers installed and I think performance is better. But that may just be my imagination, since I've never really had any performance issues to begin with. Only had a DX error once.

It's not fair to blame the programmers. I get it, I really do, but it also shows a nativity of software development and the entire team behind this title (yes, I am working at a software company, and yes, I should probably be working and not posting :P)

The programmers are assigned their tasks.

The programmers are given x-amount of time to get it done.

A team lead may well play a part in how it is implemented.

A Technical director may well play a role in influences HOW it is done.

A Production direction will say how quickly it has to be done ... even if that's an unreasonable target.

Every programmer, every team, every team lead, will have different skill levels and accuracy; everything rolls up to a QC team/process.

Bugs will be searched for, tracked, and then a team will sit down and prioritize which of those - if found - will get fixed.

While the production director influences what won't get worked on due to time/budget concerns.

All of the time a deep management team will be heavily influencing timeline.

A design team (User experience) came up with the menus, options available, and dictated how things would work: "you click this, that happens," "on this menu are options X, Y, and Z"

So at the end of the day, the programmer is but one piece of a large and complex web: he/she is told what to program, when, and how it will work.

You're blaming the guy who wrote the line of code, but not the people who told him how to write it, the fact that he didn't have enough time to write it, the manager who changed his mind half way through, the UX designer who made the decision on the WASD keys, the QC team who missed the bugs, or the team who prioritized what would be fixed and what wouldn't.

At the end of the day - with game development - typically the programmers are the last people to blame.

Your right. Those who design game DA:I should be fired...

I did a custom install of  Nvidia 347.09 just the graphics driver and tested it briefly. At skyhold my framerate is holding steady at 60fps with slight drops of 2-3 frames. I went to Redcliffe where my framerate was vastly improved before I was getting anywhere from mid 30s to low 50s now I'm getting low 50s to 60. The only issue in Redcliffe now is if I turn around my character quickly I'll drop to mid 40s but still a significant improvement.I'm using windows 7 pro.

I thought I would post this element from here (see spoiler link) because I think it would be helpful to PC users with stability issues!

Spoiler

"the game is rendering things at some astronomically long distance or extremely close if not negative distances, which is causing the resource usage to skyrocket, and hence causing crashes, stuttering, and poor performance, lock ups, freezes, etc., regardless of what people have thier settings at.

It is being investigated, from what I have been told.

The game is currently misallocating the system resources, cpu, gpu, ram, pagefile and vram. this is due to bugs in the coding for Speed Tree, and draw distances. this is what is causing high usage spikes across all (random access and temporary) storage and processing media, which in turn causes the stuttering, lags, crashes, etc

I have tried both Nvidia, and AMD graphics cards, and I am most stable with AMD using the Mantle API."

Following many freezes and TDRs after patch2+hotfix or Botch2+Hotbrix as I like to call it - this is where I'm at personally;

I ran a series of tests with OCS on my gfx cards which passed without producing artefacts at 1920x1200 res and then ran it again at 2560x1600 which failed with a TDR. I then ran 3Dmark11 on performance which failed to complete with a TDR.

Using DDU - you can find info here if you don't know what it is - you can completely uninstall either nVidia or AMD drivers completely, including any related company install folders. The utilities that are provided by nVidia etc for this task eg clean install, do not work properly!

  • I removed all my existing 344.75 drivers with this method and re-installed 344.75.
  •
  • I then ran a the GPU stress tests on my 4GB GTX670 SLi cards using OCS and then 3Dmark11

Both cards performed flawlessly and I got a performance 3Dmark11 of 14633 and Xtreme of X5738. These actions proved that somehow my drivers were corrupted at some point, whereas before installing DA:I I had no such issues. To test further I ran 3Dmark11 at 2560x1600 at maximum settings allowed and both cards performed flawlessly without issue.

I then started DA:I and loaded a save at Haven which had brought about my crashing before. I ran around the top part of the camp (where Leliana is) once, still with lots of stuttering and obvious draw distance issues that people have reported since Botch2. I couldn't complete a second circuit of the camp as the game CTD with no error messages!

nVidia have just released a new driver Version 347.09 beta; listed in the release notes as Open Issues

Windows Vista/Windows 7 64-bit Issues
Single GPU Issues
Dragon Age Inquisition runs poorly (stutters) on NVIDIA hardware.

nVidia clearly acknowledge now that DAI is a problem even if BioNotAware haven't!
However nVidia can add SLi to that open list too!  :(

Dragon Age Inquisition runs poorly on SOME NVIDIA hardware, especially those using SLI, just to be clear.

I am running my game on a single MSI GTX 970 using Ultra settings and in the 220 hours I (and my girlfriend) have played the game, I have had one single directX crash. Nothing else. My game has been running smoothly since day one.

I am not trying to diss anyone however, I am very sorry that people are having these problems.

I hope Bioware won't forget us because of this... I know that it might be a common rule for Eula ut it still worry me.

Well, as has already been discussed in this thread (I think it was this one) EULA isn't law. It's a very clear statement from EA, however. I suppose the reason I brought it up is that I think if people are going to be angry or frustrated or disappointed it's better for them to be informed.

they need to get the damn crashing under control because it still crashes very frequently in multiplayer.

Also there's a ton of bugs on pc that haven't been fixed. Rampage being one of them on reaver.

I think you should go back to play the game and stop posting when you have no issues.

We're all very glad you're not having problems but your comment helps no one.

As for me, I gave up trying to fix the game, now I'm reinstalling...hoping that the no patch works better (as it was before the nightmare patches)

How can we tell the version of the game we are playing (i.e. pre-patch or patched and hotfix for the patch?)

Is there a visible version number we can see in one of the menus

or a log file or something that we can access to retrieve this information?

Because of Frostbite engine so the saves aren't compatile.

Just imagine that you want to play from windows to Linux or Mac.

That won't work too.

Yes, I agree.

It sucks but Bioware did warned us beforehand.

One would hope that you got some level of enjoyment out of the first two games beyond just generating an end-of-game save file to import into Inquisition. I hardly consider the time I spent playing through them wasted. (My family, on the other hand...)

Its clearly acknowledged by nVidia - they wouldn't say so if it wasn't true. They're not in the business of dissing their own hardware so there must be significant numbers of issues and they certainly would have verified this independently.

I think you're one of the lucky ones bro and seriously I am happy that some can enjoy the game. Id like to be one of them  ;)
