Bioware,
A PC concern I cannot find a definitive answer to: does the PC tactical camera mode have all the same functionality of the console versions? I cannot seem to duplicate some of the moves I've seen in your videos such as stacking two commands (e.g. use a special attack then run to a spot). Can you clarify?

Dragon Age Inquisition runs poorly on SOME NVIDIA hardware, especially those using SLI, just to be clear.

I am running my game on a single MSI GTX 970 using Ultra settings and in the 220 hours I (and my girlfriend) have played the game, I have had one single directX crash. Nothing else. My game has been running smoothly since day one.

I am not trying to diss anyone however, I am very sorry that people are having these problems.

Not just sli, though. A 760, for instance, should be able to run the game pretty well, and I'm sorry if having an average 70-80 fps in most areas that just drops to something like 20-25 in some very specific places doesn't strike me as normal. Also, yeah, directx crashes galore, though I don't know if I'm just lucky or what but reducing post processing to medium seems to have drastically reduced them (even though framerate difference seems to be pretty much nonexistent.
Still, I'm in the process of doing the full driver uninstall\reinstall thing, since I seem to remember the game actually running a lot better in the first 10\20 hours of gameplay - I believe the drops still happened, but weren't so severe... hell, I was even scared my gpu could be damaged after too many crashes, but other games seem to run pretty much the same (again, I could be mistaken).

Because of Frostbite engine so the saves aren't compatile.

Just imagine that you want to play from windows to Linux or Mac.

That won't work too.

Yes, I agree.

It sucks but Bioware did warned us beforehand.

The keep doesn't bother me much, in fact I really liked seeing what choices in earlier games had actually "mattered" (and redoing some stuff I didn't like... hush, nobody needs to know :P ). But, honestly, I kind of doubt the problem is as much "the frostbite engine isn't compatible" as it is "no way for pirates to have the full experience like this". I mean, how hard would it be to have an app analyze and convert previous save's data - even if, for some reason, they had to do it outside the actual game?

I can confirm that commands do stack, I didn't even know that they could. I don't know how many commands, but you can at least use a potion and then basic attack. I believe skills override basic attack though.

With regard to the differences between the PC and console versions of Tac Cam, I couldn't say as I haven't played either.  However, consoles have walk while PC does not, so I would not be surprised if there were some other function console version Tac Cam may have that the pc version does not.

PC Tac Cam is a muddled, uninspired mess from what I read.  It was clearly something not intended for PC but left in because they couldn't be bothered to take it out...

i'm wating next patch too hoping i can start playing again.

Everything was fine before patch2 and now i can't play. if iwon't be able to play after next patch i don't know what i can do

Did you try to re-install the game and put Origin offline after it so it won't patch the game ?

The only problem is that the save files that you made won't load but there is a work around for that, though i don't have link of it.

Anybody?

Since the patch (and hotfix) came out, the in-game refresh rate doesn't respond anymore.

For example, if I want to set the refresh rate from 1920x1080 60hz to 1920x1080 30hz or 24hz (to activate 3D), the game no longer responds to this and doesn't actually set the refresh rate. It just stays at the default 60hz (despite showing the new refresh rate in the menu). This only started happening after the patch.

I'm connected to a 46" Samsung 3DTV via HDMI cable.

Anybody else having this issue?

Ok, don't know which of the two actually did it, but I'm on an Nvidia card (gtx 760) and uninstalling the driver with Display Driver Uninstaller and installing the most recent beta driver (347.09) really made a huge difference as far as framerate drops go. Framerate is high enough everywhere to be considered fluid now.

Still don't know if directx crashes still happen (haven't seen that many cutscenes in the last few days), but having decent framerate everywhere (even in Skyhold and Redcliffe) is a big improvement as far as I'm concerned.

2 commands only. And by some bizarre logic you have to do it backwards. If you want to cast a spell and then move, you have to do it in a reversed order: issue a movement and then issue a cast. Idk who actually sat there at BW HQ and said to themselves: "yes! Yes, this is perfect, this is 'how the game is meant to be played'. I bet people would sing our phrases to kingdom come after that!"

Wow it's approaching year 2015 and Bioware have really pushed the boundaries of tactical gaming by AT LEAST allowing characters to stack using A POTION..... AND THEN A BASIC ATTACK.

It's like they were able to combine the strategic elements of chess, civilisation and devil survivor and then multiply it by like a billion. Bravo BW. And bravo BW fanboys, the only people alive who amaze me more than those in this "company".

It's quite a exaggerated generalization, I think. Sure, there are people who'll defend this game/company with their own blood, but most of us just like a different games and/or gameplay. I play a lot of BF4, so controls in DAI aren't that different from what I'm used to (it doesn't mean I like them, though, I absolutely hate DAI control scheme). Some of my friends like that mindless grinding in DAI, because their gaming background is MMO based. Some like to play only on a controller and some don't like tactics that much. What exactly amazes you so, then?

No joke...  I literally just installed that...  reading up on some mods now...

Hehe, the aforementioned 22yo son just installed it as well, and is trying to convince me to MP with him. IWD is not my favourite franchise (I have lots of work over Christmas and might spend my spare time in WoD with some friends), but I'm prepared to think about it. Let me know how it looks.

Brogan,
Perhaps you know the answer to my question?

I can, from experience.

The answer is I'm sorry, but no. Not all of the tac cam import to PC works. In fact, it's a fair thing to say that it broke, somewhere (Bioware have even already said as much in acknowledging that it is one of the things they intend to fix in future patches). They did try to address an aspect in Patch 2, but I can say, after trying it out both pre- and post-patch, I now refuse to use tac cam at all in any of my time in the game (having said that, someone else on this thread has noted that's all they use, and that works for them, but on my laptop, it's impossible to see anything, especially if I have to angle up).

The tac cam was made for the console, and some of its functions do not work on PC.

Hence the WHAAAA--? from many of us. :)

ETA: No, I tell a lie. Once I've done some research, I will hit T before a dragon fight so I know what type of elements it's about to hit me with, and therefore what it will be weak to. That's it.

Wait, you haven't played the game?

Aside from playing around in the character creator, nope.

And I've been waiting 3 years for this game.

Anybody?

Exposed, I wonder how many people here know how to actually check their refresh rate in-game.

What is your method?

It's not so much how it looks, but how it sounds.  Just an outstanding score, ambient effects, and overall tone.

Perfect for this time of year, too.  Beamdog did a good job converting it to their latest Infinity engine EE version.  Lot of kits to choose from, creating a party (imagine if you had to create 6 Inquisitors for DAI...)

I mean, it's basically like playing BG2, but still.  Warm and fuzzys.

Waiting for Patch 3, yeah  ... that almost sounds like the game has received serious post-release support. But let's see:

Patch 1: That was the day-1 patch that we apparently downloaded without knowing. I for one still have no idea what it contains. No patch notes released as far as I can tell, so it really doesn't count as post-release support.

Patch 2: An attempt to fix bugs but ended up introducing a series of new appalling graphical bugs that should have been flagged and fixed by any half-competent QA. A few welcome fixes such as the ability to disable the tactical camera mode on zoom out with the mouse wheel (more like a bugfix I'd say). Aside from that the only real gameplay improvement was the blip markers on the minimap. But hey! We got shiny glossy hair and withered and wrinkled skin with a sudden removal of scars! What's not to like?

Patch 2 Hotfix: An attempt to fix the effects of Patch 2. Worked for some, but ended up creating a host of performance issues for many players.

Well, it's been ONE MONTH and this is what BioWare has managed to come up with.

We are not impressed.

Would that be the royal use of We, or the plural version?

So, Origin patched today. I don't know if these are both directly related to the patch -- I'm pretty sure one is, but since I haven't done chargen in a while, not sure about the other.

Anyone notice that, post-patch, your party members just kinda take a break in the middle of combat? Oh, what? A giant's attacking you and you'd like Cassandra to grab the agro? But, it's nap time! Snooze for a few seconds shouldn't hurt, right? I've counted up to seven seconds while my party just stands there.

Second? I went in to chargen just now to create a new character, and dang it, I can't rotate the model! WTF? I could, previously! What the heck happened, gang? **edit** Huh, odd. Apparently I now have to rotate with RMB, rather than LMB. 0.o

just bought the game, and man i regret it. didnt know there were so many problems even after the first patch still, e.g. the hitching and so on.

imo, the pc controls need to be completely reworked for keyboard+mouse users.

it just sucks.

KOTOR, a Bioware RPG for the original Xbox released in 2003 had command queuing.  How does this game not have that?
