Eeesh! I wouldn't want to meet you in a back alley in Denerim.
Edit: or maybe I would
That would completely depend on how you chose to say hello. :-p

Divinity original sin is a good game, fun to play specially with mages and all the combos, the thing is it starts too hard and then becomes easy and easier and easier, also some of the old school things dont work anymore, seriously THAT INVENTORY is terrible, the crafting is in the same boat and of course the tons of text make it look like im playing wikipedia, i mean if i would want to read that much i would grab a book.
You made the wrong choice by buying it then. Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment; you would hate them too if you had played.

problem is, baldurs gate and torment had texts that were mostly worth to read, d:os mostly not (icewind dale had very little text). if the combat system in d:os wouldnt be so good i would never finish it because the story is mediocre at best. and even in gameplay they fucked up because the overall balancing of combat is bad, a game thats hard in the beginning and easy peasy at the end is just bad balanced, difficulty settings doesnt help here because the overall balance stays the same (the difficulty mod help a bit here). to add a cool crafting system thats pretty pointless (bufffood anyone) is a missed chance too.
still a great game, but mostly because of the really cool combat system
Okay guys, you can all curse me, but i thought that the KB+M controls were better than the Xbox 360 controller, also i didnt find any diffculty in adapting to play for it. Note that I am a RPG fan and have played most of its best games. Well actually I think its pretty weird to you guys to think its unbearable to play it...Its for the most a little annoying at the beggining but that awkwardness dissapears for me in the first 2 hours of the game. Try playing it as if its not bad and you will get used to it....i think =)
Curse you! *shakes fist* ![]()
Nah, you're right, its not THAT bad. I've played over 100 hours with it. It still isn't very comfortable to use, and I'd prefer they make it more friendly to M&KKB players.
For instance, I open inventory, and would expect as a Windows user (and player of every PC game ever), to see the first item at the top of the list box, but no, it's in the middle. I scroll so its at the top and I can see 9 items, As I scroll the game selects the item at the middle of the list for me, as if it thinks I'm using a controller.
So I click on the first one and delete it. As a Windows user I'd expect the list to shift up and the new selected item to be the old second on. Nope, back down on the 5th item, middle of the list again. But I don't want to delete item 5, I want the cursor to be on the next item in the list after the one I deleted, not the middle one.
If I select the second item, and scroll once, I'd expect the first item to disappear off the top of the screen and the selected one to be at the top. Nope, middle again.
The only way I can get over this problem with focus in the list box is to resign myself to using the menu like I'm using a controller, and just use the middle item as the selected one all the time. Can I? Sure, but I shouldn't have to.
The list box functionality is borked, There is no 2 ways about it. The game is forcing me to focus on the middle of the list box. This is plainly not working as designed, given a competent PC design. It's not even working correctly given a good controller port design. It's the very definition of half-assed.
The sad thing is the Bioware white knight defenders on here claiming this isn't a console port, that the UI is made for PC as the developers said. Ha!
It's not misplaced. I'm a customer, not a review website. Not a critic. I don't care how their internal structure operates. I don't care how much freedom they are or are not given to create. All I care about is the finished product. I've been on this website since summer because I was interested in the game. Bioware decided that pc fans wouldn't be getting any info however. So.... I'm only judging the results.
Bioware's programmers **** the bed with this, it is a horribly planned port from start to finish. If their superiors forced them into doing it poorly, or without proper resources, that's between them. I have no opinion on that, as I don't have (or want) the behind the scenes factors. If they feel mistreated or under-utilized, they are free to quit. There are many companies that could use good programmers these days.
Happy F' New Year.
As a developer myself, I have to agree with Brock. I'm forced to make compromises all the time because I'm told "No, you can't change that, that's the way its been designed" or "We don't have time to fix that, leave it for after release", so I grit my teeth and move on.

As a customer I and I'd guess a good deal of the complainants and those affected are with Brogan, internal politics are irrelevant if they can't or won't do the job right then they should not bother at all,and clearly they did not do the job right, yet they marketed it as if they did.it only goes 2 ways they either:
1) Were too stupid to know better,in which case they should be replaced by people who actually know how to make a RPG for PC.
2) They knew how to make a PC RPG and intentionally made a shoddy console port,in which case they should man up apologize to the customers they lied to fire themselves and give everyone a refund if they refuse to make a actual PC port.
From Laidlaw and Darrah's absence on this thread, the lack of any apology or any real attempt at a fix and Laidlaw's appearance in that "By PC Gamers for PC Gamers" video sitting there telling a pack of total utter B.S along with all the other talking heads it's quite clear they have zero integrity which is why they don't come on here, because they know full well that they told a pack of lies to the PC user base and don't have the stones to face up to it.

Oh, I agree with this part. Its Laidlaw and company who SHOULD be blamed, not the joe programmers who had to implement their bad decisions.
1) Stop feeding the trolls (multiple)
2) You might as well as stop supporting Bioware - I notified in a dignified manner Bioware of the trolls in this and other concern threads, yet no action has been taken in the past weeks. NONE. Not even a single reply back...
Merry Christmas all.

My point was, I do and have blamed them. Darrah and Laidlaw have been the targets for months, thanks to a. that video and b. starting this thread... yet because they have both decided to run and hide like the sellouts they apparently are and give us nothing for over a month since the surprise upon release... I am therefore shifting my focus from them, to the people who have to take orders from them.
Not fair to the programmers? *shrugs*
Nobody forced them to work for/continue working for a company that lies to and disrespects it's core audience.
To steal a quote from the christmas day Sundance TV marathon of Princess Bride, "We are men of action. Lies do not become us."
No, Brogan, I have to agree with Shinian et al here. You now how I feel about this whole cakefest, but don't blame the lowbies. Saying they're "not forced" to work for Bioware is a stretch given how difficult it is to leave one's job for a new one these days.
And if all the good programmers/execs leave a company because they're not forced to be there? That will mean the loss of a lot of good people, then EAware will be forced to hire a whole bunch of newbies who were brought up on consoles and want to develop only for.... oh, wait.
Decisions are made further up the track, and blame, if there is any to be handed out, belongs up there. Everything the programmers and meshmakers, etc., do is okayed (or not) further up the track. Darrah and Laidlaw, sure. The person working on the textures that will never really be rendered properly on PC (but are sure as hells pretty when they are!) because someone else made a decision about the game's engine? No.
As for you, Mr Horse of Iron:
Oh? I guess I better wear my armor.
Do. Apparently you'll need it, ser. ![]()

Sorry, but that's both stupid (what's the reasoning of switching blame just because another one hide ???) and pointless (what's the use of blaming someone who isn't the one being responsible nor giving the orders) ?
Maybe it's because I didn't think this game could even be run on my computer, but I haven't had THAT bad of a time. I mean, when I start a new game I'm trapped in some mountainy area I cannot escape from, but I'm sure that will be fixed or I'll figure out how to get around it.
Or maybe it is quarantining me from playing the game cause I only have a dual core processor (yes I know they're not supported). My frame rate is pretty reasonable tho considering...
I can understand the frustration. But I hold the Executives accountable. Not addressing the major concerns of the PC more than a month after release is not responsible and does lack integrity as well as honesty. As I said before, Goodwill goes a long way and the Company needs to learn that. I kind of think they have forgotten that we are customers and not just fans. And it is sad, just very sad.
I'm one of the 'lucky' ones if you can even call it that- with all the issues, its still playable but not in a good way - there are pc customers that can't even load the game or who's char get stuck like CalSchmid and that still has not been addressed. Blaming the user is not responsible. This is not good.
Oh and I need to add: Please fix the kb&m controls, UI interface, AI coding as posters have already requested. I would really like to finish the game.

Oh sure, they should quit. They may have livelihoods and families they need to provide for, that would be uprooted and upended by having to look for a new job that may or may not pay as well. But they should just quit, avoiding the disapproval of some angry PC players is totally worth it.

100%....
We had a saying in the Air Force (Crew Dog) Why Is There Never Enough Time To Do It Right The First Time, But There Always Is Time To Go Back And Do It Again?
That air force saying is applicable across professions.

To coin the lingo though this ain't their first check-ride,they already had the pre-flight checklist(walk toggle, expandable hotbar, mouse edge scrolling, ability to set deep custom tactics etc).Instead they just said "Screw it by the time they realise it won't fly we'll have their money"
I am with Brogan mostly, but the real target should be Laidlaw or whoever allowed/ordered him to make that video. And a later one with a controller in his hand!!
This game is crippled for PC. 8 out of 30 abilities. No weaponswap. Should be called Shadow of Dragonage I think
As for you, Mr Horse of Iron:

Tis always a good idea to be protected M'lady ![]()
At 328 pages I think we need a rethink!
I am like some of the contributors here. I have not had any severe problems. I turned off Origins and saves are local. A little instability but nothing to much. Definitely not game breaking.
However I know a lot of people are having troubles. So really the problems are in two camps.
1. Technical or system issues. Drivers, DirectX and so on. This can be rectified via patches and other means.
2. Game design and implementation. This has been masked to a degree by technical issues. The real emphasis should be here. Darrah and Laidlaw didn't create the DirectX issues. That's a different area. But they sure as hell were involved in crippling the tactics, the inventory, the removal of weapon swapping, the emasculation of the tool bar. (8 out of 30, give me a break). Origins had 125 slots and a camp chest. DA:I has 90.
They should have not released this game in this state. I would give it 3/10 for ready. Release it for the console to get the xmas sales, but hold the PC release until it's ready. 3/6 months maybe.
That would allow the true focus (blowtorch) to be applied to Laidlaw and co.
