The "tweak" as you call it is very awkward. Tac mode and moving the camera with my left hand is "un-natural" to me. I gave up on it and just use "action" mode most of the time. Darrah, I believe, said he prefers the action mode over the tac mode... now that says something.

maybe i got no big problems with it because i play all sorts of games and wasd+mouse is really not uncommon in pc gaming. so i'm pretty sure bioware is really surprised (as myself) about this big backlash about something that isnt really new or unique to pc gaming

Of course he prefers action mode. He knows very well the only reason tac cam is in the game is that people missed it after da 2 so they put in something that... somewhat resembles the one people actually wanted.

The tactical cam was made rather useless indeed. Its so awkward to use it that I simply ignore it most of the times. I used a little more when I killed the first dragon (hinterlands) but, at least on hard, I can kill everything in action mode. Was pretty hard to make Vivianne attack as she should (full spiritual blade and barrier when needed) but she is doing that almost all the time now by the AI and very few things survive that kind of strategy on hard. If they fix tactical cam and controls one day I will probably need to play on nightmare because the game is pretty easy most of the times.

It's just that I thought I was getting a Dragon Age game with all of the usual features.  Ya know....like auto-attack and click-to-loot and a camera (view) that could pan out to see more than one NPC on a screen.  I thought I'd be able to select my whole party and actual command them to do something, like get away from that impending fireball.  EVERYTHING has changed.....and this old dog doesn't want to learn anymore new tricks.  Oh sure, I'll learn a new language, but Bioware/EA/Microsoft will not force-feedback a controller down this labrador's throat.  Not without a treat first.  I'm not even sure what to do with my keyboard (and mouse) now, but use them to send scathing forum posts to Bioware.  Yeahh... I know that they're not reading them, but humor me.  In a small way, this is making me feel better.  It's like punching that brick wall.  The broken hand is my missing $70, but blogging about it is me crying in the emergency room.  Okay, that is yet another bad example.

What this forum has taught me is that I'm horrible at analogies.

While I was still using the KB&M I'd actually forgotten all about the Tac. Mode and had my left little finger hovering over Ctrl to pause instead.

It's a pointless feature in my eyes for the PC version

Hey!!!!

I like it, to pause the game to issue orders to my perfectly AI controled party members : like the rogue with 3% life prefering to shoot before quaffing a potion, or my mage wandering in front of the dragon mouth just to test the fire breath in his face...

I can then see the sexy movement Arrow with the strangely sexy pathfinding of my party members : I'm supposing now that they all have lead soles, and that only my inquisitor is able to jump :)

Ok, there is just this little annoying fact that the kb+m controls are so annoying that actually I prefer to play in normal mode, so the tactical view is barelly usefull 1 fight every 50... A chance, I say :)

JPR out!

/sarcasm off

Well at least Bioware, in their infinite wisdom, has finally granted me the "jump" feature.  Finally I can jump off of this virtual cliff, but not before I pen this rather lengthy suicide note in my journal/codex-thingie...

not you but sooo many others :D i mean really, using wasd is not rocket science. could the controls be better? hell yeah, especially at managment things like inventory. but thats just a matter of clunky and not unplayable.

i've seen yesterday a video of diablo 3 on consoles and blizzards managed to overhaul the complete controlling scheme to controller optimized, it feels completly different to pc. and developers must recognize THIS is the way to go.

Let's not mix up thing, Blizzard just said it was cool but not better than pc controls.

Yeah the tac cam is also pretty much okay for me, although I would like to be able to move camera with mouse touching edge of screen, zoom out further, and tilt the camera further so we could see from below and up "worm's eye view".

But since I mainly use the action cam the above wouldn't really help me much :(

CE allows you to override the tac zoom limitations

It's not uncommon, no - for shooters and action games. For a party-based tactical combat RPG? Not so much.

That said, there's really nothing wrong with it. The problem is that it's the only option. Everyone expecting a mouse-driven RPG like Origins was backhanded for their insolence.

There's also the fact that they couldn't even do WASD+Mouse very effectively. So yeah....

I've played every rpg I could get my greedy little hands on since I've had a kb+m combo (...er, 2000 or so?) and have always used wasd. I didn't actually realize it was possible to solely use the mouse - so I have some sympathy for how that could be a blind spot for the developers, especially if those in charge of the control scheme had no part in the earlier iterations.  That said, I also realize how jarring it must be to have that choice removed if that's what one is used to.  That would plainly suck.

The only changes I had to make in action mode was to remap the, er, sonar thing to tab and pause to the spacebar.

Btw, laughed at your use of "backhanded for their insolence".  Too funny.  :D

  1. @BioMarkDarrah What's the chance of a DAI PC UI for mouse/KB? No controller at my house. DLC?

@Strike_Slip there is a mouse keyboard interface.

Yeah, they're taking the interface issues seriously.

Well, he's not wrong - there is a M/KB interface.

It sucks, but it does exist.

This Mark Darrah character seems like an uncaring lout.  Is he available as a romance-able NPC in this game?  I want to lead him on and then rip his heart out....virtually of course.

I played games that mostly use the mouse (nwn) and games that mostly use wasd (wiz 8 - which I think by default used the arrow keys but can't remember); to wasd doesn't bother me - what bother me is keys suddenly doing other things like esc opening the console and right click open codex in the middle of combat.

I meant "break his heart" and NOT "rip his heart out".  It wouldn't be anything too unseemly, I assure you.  I'd choose to ignore him, then maybe give him a "Dirty Pair of Pantaloons" at some point.  Then I wouldn't talk to him the entire time that we're in Camp....then in front of everybody else, right before a big, epic battle, I'd give him the old "Ox Bone".  That'd make him think twice....about what I have no idea....

never said this. they are just aware the controls on pc and consoles are different and support it. maybe it would have been another thing when the console version  would have been first and ported to pc, but i dont think so because this "comfortable to play" thing is something they do for a long time in every game.

I can't find the post(s) in this million page thread, but aren't there MOD's out there than "fix" the camera views/tactical camera issues?

If someone doesn't have any crashes or graphical issues and all that's stopping them is the camera/tac camera stuff, don't these mods help?

Does anyone have a link to these mods that "fix" the camera/tac camera issues?

Thanks

I'm not sure where the walk mod is.

Note:  This only fixes the zoom, not the pathing issues or the recentering bug.

There may be such things, or "mods" as you style them, but how satisfying is a reward unearned?   No.  The true, lasting satisfaction comes from struggle and the joy you find in obtaining such.  I won't be a party to denying that.

^^^  Well, I'm mostly here to complain.  Not sure how good I am at actually offering helpful suggestions, but you could try ---> bfcinematictools.com...... OR that CheatEngine.org one....for some reason Bioware won't allow me to paste text into these fields.  Maybe they've labelled me as a subversive or something....about time.

Actually, very satisfying.  It's like ditching that itchy spandex wool suit i had to wear when playing.

Sigh. So many little things that you would think they could patch up pretty quickly and yet not only do they not do that, they stubbornly insist on basically zero communication with anyone - especially on their own forums.

Is DA:I in an unplayable state? = No.

Is DA:I the $70.00 game that I thought it would be at launch? = For myself, no.

Did I assume that most of the little things would have been patched by now? = Yes.

Are these unreasonable expectations? = No, not even close.

Do paying customers deserve at least a roadmap of where DA:I is going? = You would think.

I there ANY excuse for the lack of communication? = No, there is not.

Should they release a substantial update BEFORE they release ANY dlc? = They had better, or I for one will uninstall DA:I and cut my losses.

The silence is not only deafening but is also very concerning. There seems to be no direction left, only a collective shrugging of shoulders with an ("you should have seen the mess before we delayed the release") type of attitude.  It's obvious that the game needed more development time and Bioware even admitted as much by their statements of the cut content.

Good grief Bioware at least throw us a bone... Anything?

You had my full attention at spandex.  Though I wonder how such an uncomfortable hybrid might exist.  Cheers to mods!
