Wish I could join ya. Alas, I must save for that game.
Playing Divinity..... Dai is fuc*** and I need to re-install it..... At the moment, I'm too lethargic to move my right arm to pick up the case.

Not much, but here you go.Forgive me for going a bit off topic here, but I'm curious: why do you feel this way? I am planning on buying the game for PC if the reception is good enough, and I am hoping that they will have a true PC UI (not just the HUD, but everything else: menus, etc.). But, if it turns out to be lousy and console-based like DAI, I'll definitely be very disappointed. Are there any screenshots out there of the PC UI?
I cannot understand why you would take the marvellous tactics of Origins and not implement them in DA:I. I could handle the rest of the garbage they delivered if AI was working.
/sobs uncontrollably
Agreed - the tactics and AI are what annoys me the most - and will be the thing that makes me reconsider doing another playthrough. I go back to games like DA:O and even DA2 (with its issues) because of the tactical combat. I like tweaking my party tactics to do combos and take down my enemies.
DA:I doesn't have that and it becomes me fighting against my party to use them best. It is unlikely to be a game I want to play again (and again).
I have to disagree here. I think it's fixed with the latest patch. No camera repositioning anymore in the tac cam when I click on a character portrait.
Sweet. So, we can call that another "well, m'kay, it's fixed for some"--because it's still buggy for me (I checked before I responded). ![]()
This is going to be a button-mashing console action game with DLC to play dress up when we're in our quarters...like the SIMS, only better...(eyes roll out of head)...
I hope that you're picking up on my sarcasm, because I'm laying it on pretty thick.
Wash your mouth out! ![]()
The Sims (2) is moddable. I could (almost--it's a bit large for a single block) recreate Skyhold in almost exact proportions and give myself design choice and make half of the meshes myself (although I don't need to--the mesh on the Free Marches II bed is verrry familiar)--plus all of the textures; in fact, now the modders have found the textures I could extract them and apply them to the S2 format. Then, I could recreate my warrior girl Inquistor and, say... Cullen... and they could see that damned bedroom whenever they wanted. ![]()
(It's kind of sad when there's more RP possibility in a total sandbox game than the RPG itself... and no shiny hair).
.... Man, I wish I had more time, now. Damn RL and work and stuff.

yeah total bs, it definitely isn't fixed. (camera snapping back to characters after you select them).
^^^ This soap tastes soapy, but I'm always bubbly when I read one of your posts. I enjoy great, iconic games that brought great ideas/features to our PC experience(s). Sims1-2 were good. I understand that the franchise got worse, and maybe there was always going to be a limited way to go in-game period. A life simulator is interesting...but not as interesting as getting out of the house and playing Carl Johnson, Niko Bellic, etc.
I like grand-scale, free-roaming, sandbox worlds. I was soooooo geeked-up for this game. F me and my anticipation. I really need to lower my expectations nowadays.

Seems to be still bugged for some then. It worked for me last time I checked. Weird...
Or maybe I've just lost my mind. I'll have to check again soon... ![]()
Now the programmers at Booware are working against each other....Somebody at Boo Central is trying to put a finger in one crack in the dam, whilst the other guy is pouring water on the wrong side of the dam...I can just see it (the code) happening. They don't know what to prioritize because this game is soooo F'd up. Plus they're just getting back to work TOMORROW. Happy Holidays to the people that got this game for a present.
I also remember some people arguing that the
completely guttedreduced tactics wouldn't matter because the AI would be so good...
Can anyone make the case for the AI being sufficient to provide satisfying party synergy during combat when controlling a single character? Or is micromanagement now a greater requirement?
This is a sincere question, I would love to be convinced. A big concern that is holding me back from buying this game is the lack of customisable tactics considering the large amount of trash mobs reputedly in it. DA:O and DA2 also had lots of trash mobs (as do most RPGs) but this was mitigated by the excellent configurable party AI, which meant I could micromanage less during these easier encounters (even on Nightmare - which wasn't exactly very difficult in Origins), yet still enjoy my party performing according to my wishes and strategies. It was very satisfying and fun to experiment with. With the current level of companion customisation in DA:I I don't see how this same style of play will be possible, nor how tedious micromanagement of 'simple' fights during higher difficulties can be avoided.
I'm sorry to say but your concerns are valid in my opinion. The AI is... functional is the word I would use. Much beyond that it is not. Occasionally you may experience a crick in your neck after some of the head tilting decisions your party members make.
I believe Lannes1789 described it best, that if you are looking for a tactical game you will be disappointed, if you are in it for a diversionary fantasy action game you won't be disappointed. I hope I am paraphrasing that correctly. If not feel free to throw something at me Lannes1789 ![]()
I wonder if this is the reason your loot bag was capped at 60.
Hmm. I think that's just a number pulled from a hat to be honest. You can alter that number with Cheat Engine beyond even the perks that boost it to 90. There just doesn't appear to be much thought in viewing items in large groups for a better comparative view.
For consoles they need to keep the UI simple, too many things on sreen, too small a font and you can't see what's going on from 8 feet away while sitting on the sofa watching TV.
Sound familiar now?
They should have designed a UI that works well with a computer monitor that you are 1-2 feet away from on PC and kept the giant minimal info screens on consoles where they belong.
Will they? I'm not holding my breath.
Yes. I came to that realization very shortly after voicing my thoughts and reading others. And yes they most definitely should have spared time to develop a PC-centric UI. How glorious that would have been? There might have been a valid argument for the "PC Game for PC Gamers" statement had they done so. It would have, at least in my experience, persuaded me to be less critical of the game overall. That probably sounds shallow but once I began exploring the clunky UI it just made me less forgiving of other items... AI, tacked on cam, visual anomalies, ctds, odd facial/body animations, retcons and narrative coherence. The UI for me is the loathsome item on my dinner platter that taints the rest.
^^^ It seems that you constantly lowered your expectations game-wise as you went forward in the game. See....I can't do that. I don't want to ruin the potential of that initial experience. Replaying is one thing...playing it for the first time is another. IF this game is going to be playable (granted by my standards), then I'd rather savor and enjoy it.
On the one hand, I didn't mind KOTOR, yet it was as shallow as DA:I is, strategically. Perhaps even shallower.
On the other hand, I cursed that UI every minute I played the game. 100% console UI.
Sure it had some strategic features that are not found in DA:I, stackable commands perhaps (up to three!) and character ability scores that were best just auto-leveled, but it is in the same kindergarten strategy level.
DA:I and KOTOR, are to me comparable games. I loved KOTOR and KOTOR II as games, found the story lots of fun, the game world great and everything else dumb as bricks.
However, I would like to compare DA:I to DA:O and I would like to be able to see a better game, a better UI and more depth in game mechanisms.
Perhaps, Bioware will kindly revisit the UI at least, and make an actual PC UI for this game. But they didn't for KOTOR and really, that's what I'm comparing this game to so far.
(it must be said though, that Bioware has made some of the worst UIs both for PC and consoles, perhaps the DA:I UI for consoles and the NWN UI for PCs)

Oh no. I do not share Lannes1789's opinion about the game only that there appears to be a great amount of truth to his sentiment of what DA:I is in essence. I too speak from your exact point of view. I assume that's what your post is aimed at. If not I apologize.
Here is a link to the page where that exchange took place if you're overly curious. It begins about a fourth of the way down. Is there a way to directly link to a post? Rather not quote myself.
Booware still has it in them to fix this. I've given it a week for my own sanity....then I really need to stop caring less about this Fawkin' game. I have to start tossing money at real PC-gaming companies that still appreciate and cater to my interests/business. I can't rail against a virtual brick wall forever. I could, but only to ****** off that wall.
Ncongruous - No need for any other links, but I'll read it. I actually enjoy reading forum pages more than playing this dreadful game, so you're all lucky! ![]()
What? " p i s s " get's blocked/censored? Wow...censor much Booware?
Probably just pointing out how bad they are at their jobs might get me an IP block at this point. If I disappear suddenly, that can only mean that a Moderator banned me or I was savagely mauled to death by Pandas.

first you get warning strikes, i got two for defending the game
(ok maybe a bit for insulting of trolls)
No kidding. I had to acknowledge a warning post by a Mod just now. Otherwise I couldn't post. I'm that controversial. Sitting right here. Although I saw a guy earlier get his thread taken down because he dared to ask why there were no heterosexual romancing possibilities. I mean these Bioweirdos are on another level. Who knows what they want us to think? Are they (socially)programming us at this point?
I got my post mentioning the two month old tweet from the lead game designer promising us a fix, removed.
And, I'm glad. At least they are reading these forums!
It is, however, quite strange that the last post from BW in here is from 11. december - considering that they are actually reading it.
Not swearing doesn't matter. It's amazing WHAT you'll get stricken for here. Welcome to Thunderdome. Even the (clueless)Moderators don't have a handle on what they're supposed to police. Also, they're horrible at their jobs. Let's just get right to it.
It's really unfortunate that we're getting off of the topic of PC gaming issues. My bad. Booware should focus ALL of their efforts upon fixing that and not patrolling what this renegade of a blogger can concoct.
I basically agree with what "Shelled" said up there (sorry, I'm unable to "quote" or paste text here for some reason). It does seem/feel to me that the "tac cam" mode was added in at a later date of development. Or perhaps it was designed - at some point - JUST for console use...or added to appease PC gamer's later on? Who knows?
First of all, it didn't even need to be a "mode" in the first place. It's unneeded if you allow the camera to zoom up/out enough and allow control of the entire party members. Why can't you select ALL party members? I mean seriously, WHY can't I? DA:O didn't have a "tac cam" per se', I could just pause the game, zoom out a bit, pan around, select what/all characters I wanted to and issued commands, then unpaused to live action. It was just the game paused. It wasn't a different mode with different game systems at work. There are too many conflicting things going on here. This "tac cam" is a really bad idea....even for consoles. It's even worse for PCs, it seems like it's a disjointed system from the actual action. Commands/orders don't remain after pausing. The pathfinding might utilize different maps/meshes from both...the cursors might be different (?) - I'm not entirely sure, as I've only put 2-3 hours in before I gave up. I'm not into trouble-shooting at this point. That's Booware's job.
Instead of the best of both worlds, we got the worst of everything. I can't believe that I'm still complaining about this...LOL.
Heh, these were arguments I made, almost word for word, on here well before release. It didn't take a rocket scientist to see that Tac Cam wasn't designed for m&kb interface and wouldn't work.
Now I can't "like" a post....just so you all know. I'll just have to verbalize some sort of recognition towards that end. F the Moderators.
Brogan - I believe you! (LIKE)
is it just me or has the entire industry taken one big downward spiral the last... what 7 years or so? I blame EA, and steam... mainly EA (as I blame steam for everything, doesn't matter if steam had anything to do with it or not)
