For those who are interested. It concerns the upcomming Pillars of Eternity game, but there are some interesting statements, which may apply to all future RPGs.

Feargus Urquhart, Obsidian's CEO, has explained why they chose to use a crowd funding model for Pillars of Eternity instead of the traditional developer/publisher arrangement, "What Kickstarter does is let us make a game that is absolutely reminiscent of those great [Infinity Engine] games, since trying to get that funded through a traditional publisher would be next to impossible."[1] In an interview, Josh Sawyer stressed that being free of the limitations of a publisher would enable them to "delve into more mature subject matter[...] slavery, hostile prejudice (racial, cultural, spiritual, sexual), drug use and trade, and so on will all help flesh out the story".[18] Obsidian was inspired by InXile Entertainment's recent success of using Kickstarter to fund Wasteland 2.[19] Chris Avellone mentioned at the project's announcement that if the campaign were to succeed, Pillars of Eternity would become a franchise. He also ruled out a possible console port of the game, "Those [console] limitations affect RPG mechanics and content more than players may realize (especially for players who've never played a PC RPG and realize what's been lost over the years), and often doesn't add to the RPG experience."[20] Additionally, he has pledged to write a novella set in the game world.[21]
Thanks for sharing this!
It makes a lot of sense and it is in line with what I have been saying since DAI was launched:
In Bioware's attempt to create a universal gameplay experience across all platforms (including PC - how ridiculous is that?) they have severely limited what this game should have been.
But I guess with Bioware now having made a clear transition to generic console gaming, it has opened up this side of the market for new, talented developers to create games worthy of the RPG genre.
