For those who are interested. It concerns the upcomming Pillars of Eternity game, but there are some interesting statements, which may apply to all future RPGs.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Feargus Urquhart, Obsidian's CEO, has explained why they chose to use a crowd funding model for Pillars of Eternity instead of the traditional developer/publisher arrangement, "What Kickstarter does is let us make a game that is absolutely reminiscent of those great [Infinity Engine] games, since trying to get that funded through a traditional publisher would be next to impossible."[1] In an interview, Josh Sawyer stressed that being free of the limitations of a publisher would enable them to "delve into more mature subject matter[...] slavery, hostile prejudice (racial, cultural, spiritual, sexual), drug use and trade, and so on will all help flesh out the story".[18] Obsidian was inspired by InXile Entertainment's recent success of using Kickstarter to fund Wasteland 2.[19] Chris Avellone mentioned at the project's announcement that if the campaign were to succeed, Pillars of Eternity would become a franchise. He also ruled out a possible console port of the game, "Those [console] limitations affect RPG mechanics and content more than players may realize (especially for players who've never played a PC RPG and realize what's been lost over the years), and often doesn't add to the RPG experience."[20] Additionally, he has pledged to write a novella set in the game world.[21]

It makes a lot of sense and it is in line with what I have been saying since DAI was launched:

In Bioware's attempt to create a universal gameplay experience across all platforms (including PC - how ridiculous is that?) they have severely limited what this game should have been.

But I guess with Bioware now having made a clear transition to generic console gaming, it has opened up this side of the market for new, talented developers to create games worthy of the RPG genre.

As much as I support indies, you have to be careful, as:

http://www.theregist...o_refund_quest/

They aren't immune to dodgy practices either, in fact the ED team announced this only weeks before launch - after taking backer's money. It's a stain in an otherwise player friendly environment in the indie market. Thankfully I did not invest - as I did not play the first Elite games hence had no rapport with the devs.

My most trusted devs are:

- Taleworlds Entertainment, I've seen them grow but they have been active with the community since the beginning. Their games are also very moddable and has been this way since their beta of the first Mount and Blade.

- Larian Studios, IMO their games aren't always the best or most flashy but the love they put behind their games and their humor, it's one dev worth looking at, especially after the success of DOS.

- CD Project Red, obviously, not to mention their no-DRM stance with TW3

- Robert Space Industries, for the sole fact that Chris Roberts is in the lead, I still remember Wing Commander and I love Freelancer. And Chris loves the PC.

(There are also other great devs but they are still new to me, like Pathea with Planet Explorers, etc etc)

You just have to be careful. Bioware used to be on that list, oh well.

The talent of the people responsible for this part is wasted at bioware. I hope next dragon age will be done by different studio.

This still gives me the goosebumps yet i have no desire to waste any more time ingame.

That's why I'm pissed, that's why I'm vocal.

The writers, actors and artists DESERVE MUCH BETTER.

They just cheated us of our money and now they don't care.

I dont know if they care or not but what i know pc gameplay issues are beyond fixing so they will never ever fix it. They have to fire that idiot who designed pc controls and ui.if they hire somebody who know that magical devices named as keyboard and mouse maybe next game in the series will be okay.

[Multiplayer] Update on the Key Drop Issue

‎01-07-2015 02:35 PM

Hello everyone,

We're working on a fix for the key drop issue in multiplayer that should resolve the vast majority of these instances. This fix will be included as part of a larger upcoming patch for Dragon Age: Inquisition.

We'll provide more details at a later date, and appreciate your patience.

Well, even if it isn't addressed directly to SP... I guess this is a ray of hope that patch 3 still exist ?

If they cared, they would have created a proper PC UI and Control system. AND they would have tested it before releasing the game to make sure it actually works and that it is to the standard of the previous Dragon Age games, or better.

No. It has been made very clear to us that the only reason they bothered to implement a KB&M interface at all (and at the last minute) was to secure as many sales as possible. That is the only reason.

Bioware don't give a damn about you and your Keyboard & Mouse. All they care about is their new console market.

No issues are beyond fixing. They built the game. If they wanted to, they could also fix it. But they won't. And you know why? Because unless they can sell us an improved PC experience, they simply have no interest in it.

Mark my words: This is the last Dragon Age game that will support KB&M, and possibly even PC.

As a backer I can tell you they are committed to the community.  They pushed out the release date because of community feedback and appear to be working quite well with the beta backers.  Its been impressive to watch (this and Star Citizen).  To contrast the POE experience with DA:I makes me ill.

Integrity ... BooWare ... Integrity.  You've lost all of yours with me at this juncture.

A simple "holidays are over, we are hard at work.  Just want to let you know we are working on a patch and it will be ready when we are confident in its quality ... we don't want a repeat of the second patch".  Simple.  But no.  They have such high DISregard for their customers that we're not worthy of a simple update like that.  Heck, just hit up Twitter, Facebook, whatever if that's you're "next generation communication method".  What sickens me is seeing constant GOTY Spam on Twitter and not a single mention of anything substantive.   Primal scream ... ARGH.

Bioware don't give a damn about you and your Keyboard & Mouse. All they care about is their new console market.

I agree.  The PC "experience" was not even considered (not likely) at all.  This was programmed, tested, played, demo'd all on NextGen consoles.  It was tuned and optimized for that environment.  Clearly this took a massive effort.  However, it wasn't until the "11th hour" came that the PC experience was considered.  By this time, it was too late to "undo" or "correct" some of the experience for the PC without recoding.  While I hate saying this, I completely see how this all went down.

No issues are beyond fixing. They built the game. If they wanted to, they could also fix it. But they won't. And you know why? Because unless they can sell us an improved PC experience, they simply have no interest in it.

I think the "issues" we see from a PC experience standpoint are fundamental design choices for the console market.  The work is "too hard" and makes no financial sense.  The PC may receive some attention but is will be very cosmetic and something that can be done "easily" with no impact on quality OR the console market.

Mark my words: This is the last Dragon Age game that will support KB&M, and possibly even PC.

Oh, I don't think that's the case.  EA will continue to sell into the PC market.  We, as consumers, just have to understand we are purchasing console ports.  This type of play experience is the new normal from these guys.  Go purchase a controller for the fullest experience will be their response.  It boils down to profits and public company revenues.

What upsets me most was I bought into the hype of a PC game made by PC gamers and have no one to blame but myself.  It's really unfortunate to see what the DA experience has become

I did not know about this game (I don't follow crowd funding) but it looks amazing, thank you.

Actually, I lie. I got excited about an upcoming MMO called rise of the pantheon or something by Mcquadd (or something) who worked on Everquest. It didn't meet its goal, but is still going through development through other sources of funding. It's like watching a pigeon continuously fly into a window. Sad.

Hello people

I will not say if the game is working great or not great for me because people would crap all over me. We have to accept the fact that games change their interface and looks. We are not in the 80's now. But I saw the post yesterday that Bioware is working on the patch and it will be a big one. They ask that we are patient. And if you go on EA DAI web page every one has issues even the console players. So the game is semi broken for all. So for the people who keep saying there is no news go and check it out, and let's be civilized and patient. They know the problems and they will fix it.

Peace out!

Chill and relax

I wish this was the case of New and Working interface..

But it is not.

You should check it out.

It's in beta now on Steam and even with limited maps is a better RPg experience than DA:I.

You might also give Grim Dawn a look, having a blast with it too.

Also ... waiting on Darkest Dungeon to go beta on Steam in February.

Ooooh, I am sooooo ready for the next EAWare Dragon Age game, that I've compiled a short video of what exactly I want to see there!

3rgXBylcPHrsvkp0Vq.gif

Please, Bioware, my wallet is ready! I am finally ready to depart from a boring world of old cRPGs and dive into this whole new and awesome action genre!

As you can see here, this is what I want to see in the next DA game:

  • Shiny things!
  • Destructions!
  • Some more destructions!
  • 4 classes, that are exactly the same, yet somewhat different!
  • A MODERN WORLD! (Because I like tanks and jets, they go wooosh!) Thedas in the future!
  • Destructions!
  • No single player, please! Enough is enough! 3 games with boring single player is definitely enough. I want A squad  party based multiplayer experience!
  • Cool effects of em' destructions!
  • Broken Netcode from another cool game I know.
  • Vehicles, because I can destroy them.
  • Vehicles, because I can drive them. Walking is a main problem with DA:I. So much walking is boring.
  • Definitely NO DRAGONS!
  • Don't bother with story, I have ADHD, so I can't follow it very well.

I will preorder that, of course!

Nah, you should add dragons, and mecha-dragons shooting laser beams and nuke strikes! That would be a pre-order right there. But you should change the title to Super Mega  Mecha-Dragon Age Destruction Actiong Game.

This is a (temporary) low point for PC-gaming, but things will come around...eventually.  I'm not even saying that the "consolation" of the gaming industry won't increase (or get any worse for PC gamers) before the market corrects itself, but (IMO) it will.  Nothing in the electronics (gaming) world is static.  Things are constantly changing, shifting, evolving.  The big developers and such will eventually see that the market for PC-specific titles is there.  It exists.  Some smart poster here shared a link to actual figures that matter - the sale of new PC video cards compared to console purchases.  The former number dwarfs the latter.  I can talk directly to that figure as I upgraded my rig with a new video card, but did not choose to buy a brand new PC.  The Booware/EA's of the world need to realize that we're out there and we're a demanding bunch.  :D

There is a caveat though.  If we keep getting suckered into purchasing these sh!tty console ports and acquiesce to the developers that would have us play with controllers then that message might not be sent (from us).  I'm taking a stand in my own personal (gaming) life.  Never again, Booware.  This $h!t stops here.

You actually right! Yes to that! If they can go extra mile and modify Bianca, so it would shoot 30mm HE shells, I would be definitely saying "hello" to these new mech-dragons!

"PC Centric" reviews the PC version of Inquisition while using a controller and showcasing the console UI..... God I feel old.

True that irked me too however given that he brings up a fair few of the issues many of us have is very telling given that he by his own admission never played DAO or DA2 its quite telling on the poor quality/sheer laziness on Bioware's part.
