Bioware "devs", you taking notes on this? Your UI for your brand new game is bloody awful! You got it right twice, why mess it up on the third?
Apart from the lack of slots I prefer DAI's to the first two iterations of the series. Really like how you can set active quests to easily keep track of a particular quest both in a large yet non-intusive quest window as well as direction keys on the mini map.
Pretty freaking far from "bloody awful".
Although the horse has been flagellated beyond belief, we all know exactly the reasons they went forward with the horribly designed UI and scaling- for the same reason the control scheme was changed, limitations on quickslots, etc.
Because consoles. Plain and simple.
From a business perspective, it makes sense to design a game from inception to encompass multiple platforms- but from an end users perspective it's limiting. We've seen the trend many times over the past 5+ years (Skyrim's console-easy interface being another obvious example) and it's not going to cease, it's only going to get worse with time. As consumers, we have but one option available- and that's to stop buying games that have horrid designed for console interfaces and controls (ports, whatever you want to call them) or to "like it and lump it".
Now had they at least made an attempt to compromise in some form or fashion so that it would be a seamless transition (as a PC user you couldn't tell, for example) then they may very well have been able to do it without drawing so much attention to themselves. In this case, they failed miserably. The problems show themselves plainly, and although there's been various multiple attempts from the console fans to defend it (because they don't want it to be harder for them) and simply throwing on a fresh coat of "multiplayer paint" isn't going to do too much for this pig. All the lipstick in the world isn't going to help it- either they need to code an interface that caters to PC users (like they marketed for this game from the beginning) or they need to suck it up and apologize to PC users for lying to everyone and offer refunds to those who are unsatisfied with the purchase.
Or... they can do what they're doing currently- which is sitting on their thumbs waiting for something else to happen before they act. My opinion is that they're biding their time because they know they hold all the cards- but if enough people were to charge back the purchases (in lieu of a refund) on the basis that they didn't receive the actual product they were promised, I'm sure they would start answering questions and responding.
Dubya75 - that DAO was pretty perfect wasn't it?
Is it too much to hope that they will reduce the size for the PC in the next patch?
To clarify, the UI elements on their own is nicely designed IMO, but like you indicate, they are way too big! Why on earth do we need the companion icons so large? They did not even bother placing them closer to the edge of the screen.
So the question is indeed: Will they fix it? I very much doubt it. More likely they will come up with some lame excuse about it being too complicated and difficult to do...
Ooooh, I am sooooo ready for the next EAWare Dragon Age game, that I've compiled a short video of what exactly I want to see there!
Please, Bioware, my wallet is ready! I am finally ready to depart from a boring world of old cRPGs and dive into this whole new and awesome action genre!
As you can see here, this is what I want to see in the next DA game:
- Shiny things!
- Destructions!
- Some more destructions!
- 4 classes, that are exactly the same, yet somewhat different!
- A MODERN WORLD! (Because I like tanks and jets, they go wooosh!) Thedas in the future!
- Destructions!
- No single player, please! Enough is enough! 3 games with boring single player is definitely enough. I want A
squadparty based multiplayer experience!- Cool effects of em' destructions!
- Broken Netcode from another cool game I know.
- Vehicles, because I can destroy them.
- Vehicles, because I can drive them. Walking is a main problem with DA:I. So much walking is boring.
- Definitely NO DRAGONS!
- Don't bother with story, I have ADHD, so I can't follow it very well.
I will preorder that, of course!
and please no keyboard and mouse support. what are those things anyway?
and please no keyboard and mouse support. what are those things anyway?
Well, you know- their semi-recent tagline "challenge everything" I suppose they took it quite literally, after all.
Who needs a keyboard and mouse on a PC? Seriously? ![]()
Actually, they will NOT do their jobs if they have to keep coming here to hold children's hands just to say "aw don't cry, we are working on it" Then the crying children will yell "I don't care, you suck, I want it now"
It is not a bakery with bread coming out every hour or so, It is a huge system, if you want to change something in a point you have to make damn sure that it will not brake anything else, if it does brake anything else the Dev. team has also to figure it out why it happened and how to fix it. This kind of stuff takes a lot of time but I guess I am wasting my time with computer illiterate people...oh... wait...
... just inconsiderate children right?
Everybody has a right to question and say that something is not ok, but just bitchin about it does not help and it is something a child does.
For those talking W3 or Skyrim (joking right?
) just chill out and go play them, this way everyone will be happy.
Its not a huge system, it's a farce. You have a system designed by Console players for Console players. Nothing else. This was coded for console with PC a very small afterthought.
250 savelimit, no ability to name saves, DAISAVETIME127CAF90=intuitivename! And then they put them all in one folder! ![]()
But to enable this would be gamebreaking and very hard to do!! Pull the other one, it plays Jingle Bells.
Console menus, console orientation
It was designed with no thought or intent for mouse OR keyboard. But claimed the other!!
Don't tell me to chill out or call me inconsiderate! The children in this piece are the infantile purveyors of this piece of garbage dressed up as "Made by PC gamers for PC Gamers". You can argue about WASD or click to move but the coding just smells. This did not take 4 years of development, more like 4 weekends.
They couldn't even get the Patch right! ConceptMenuAlt? But they could get the MP adverts in.
This is what we are complaining about! It's not "Mummy can I have a cookie", it's "Why can't you fix your broken piece of crap".
Really like how you can set active quests to easily keep track of a particular quest both in a large yet non-intusive quest window as well as direction keys on the mini map.
LOL
Booware REALLY F'ed up in underestimating the backlash from us PC-gamers. They're hiding....and scared. It's too obvious.
they are counting their money. what do you want from them? A sincere apology because they lied to pc community? or do you want them to lie you more about that they will fix all your problems in the next patch?
God...Bioware... couldn't you wait few more months or year to get things right? Are you so afraid of Witcher 3?
I bet you wanted to rush release when there was no other RPG and sell it before Christmas.
But is fast profit from us, who were stupid enough to trust you one more time- really worth loosing the only left trust we had in you?
I work in game industry, we are not owned by any publisher. We postphoned our release couple of times to get things right. To release game we promised.
Well, no more money from me. If I will play your games in the future- I will not pay you. You don't deserve it. I hate liars really and being kicked as the PC player by company which made its name on PCs!
I lost this time, yes. Next time- you will.
they are counting their money. what do you want from them? A sincere apology because they lied to pc community? or do you want them to lie you more about that they will fix all your problems in the next patch?
Patch will be out in no time as soon as they finish a more important job:

... although there's been various multiple attempts from the console fans to defend it (because they don't want it to be harder for them) .....
Not to mention the PC fans who didn't know better because they never played DAO or DA2. Or they played them, but on a console system. The bulk of the trolls in this thread tend to be of this arrogant kind of Bioware defender. They don't know any better, which explains why they are usually louder than most.
Great post Sylveria. In any other case, I'd say your idea to demand refunds past the refund date because we were lied to (and we were absolutely lied to) would be an effective plan and one I'd surely be a part of. However, because I, and I'm sure many others have such a sentimental attachment to the IP (the Dragon Age series itself) that path will ultimately be non-satisfying for us. And so we are left with sitting on these boards, trying to evoke some reaction from the people who made this product.

Correct, because it's standard procedure for an entire company to stop production of the patching process until a dev making a simple comment on a messageboard, who's writing it from home, after working hours, has finished clicking, "Add Reply".
This is the kind of troll I just mentioned. Only interested in starting arguments with people he shares no common goals with.
I'm just curious if the console port was delivered by a veteran team, or a team full of interns and graduates.
If the former, then it's just Bioware's console favoritism all over again. If it's the latter, this is actually more excusable.
Look, it's obvious the lead designer of the PC UI was a new employee at Bioware who's background was 100% console design. There's no other explanation for the total lack of awareness of the previous games pc UI's.
It follows then, that Bioware (to save money), used the same person who, in fact, designed the console UI for Inquisition.
So, who was this person?

This is actually understandable. For console players you cant make a tactical rpg so in depth like Oirigins was. (It was a **** for console players...) You either make the game for consoles (action, 4 button spamming) or pc (tactical or at least a good implementation of the action gameplay that already is on console...).
The side content which is the bulk of this game does not meet the requirements of even the mmo strandards of today. A lot of people without mmo experience do not even realize how much they were scammed with this cheap collectionist bs they got instead of real open world content. Maybe for console players it is exotic somehow... given how rare mmo-s are for them.
If DA becomes an action game rather than rpg EA should give the franchise to a studio that can make good action games.

This is not 100% console design. If you saw 4 spells on your action bar and there was a key for rotating your two action bars it would be 100%. So its just not true! 99% at best.

Personally, I'd be satisfied with either a full refund of the product- or at the very least some sort of announcement that they'll be improving the experience for PC users. And yes, you're right, most of us are hanging around the boards for the very same reason- although bad press can be an effective tool for motivation in business as well. I'm sure that when word gets out just how long these threads keep getting because they're ignoring their customers, it's not going to be good for their bottom line with future releases.

Well, I'm assuming you've seen this.
That was the night before the patch, which was the last time anyone from Bioware has officially discussed what they plan on doing in future patches. In particular, this part talks about pc controls.
So clearly, there is a certain expectation from the pc community for this upcoming patch, and, much to the chagrin of the users who have either settled for the crap Bioware gave us or have already moved on after finishing the game (and thus don't really care what gets fixed), they are still looking for input from us for the ways in which they address these issues.
And without input or feedback from the devs since this blog entry, I feel it strongly behooves all pc fans who want fixes to continue to post here.

- Patch 2 includes the first range of fixes towards addressing the feedback we’ve received on the PC controls; it cleans things up so you’ll see fewer problems with the current layout. This gives us a more stable base upon which to work. After Patch 2 goes out, our next priority is to improve the PC mouse/keyboard controls further. We’re investigating how to expand on PC usability and functionality to address specific requests from the community.

Mmhmm... that post was made over 1 month ago. Here we are, still waiting on fixes and no responses or even a simple reassurance a month later.
They take my money out of my account immediately but yet we're stuck waiting for at least a month for a patch to fix a product we purchased with that money. I don't think it's adequate justification to just say "Oh but we made an announcement...", they need to be showing people they're actively working on it in some way.
And yes, I get that it was the holidays and people have families, vacations and all sorts of other priorities. But even with taking 1-2 weeks out of that month there's still plenty of time to communicate with the PC Community to let everyone know what's going on. They've sure been busy as hell marketing with Twitter (I've been keeping tabs and even sent tweets myself) to have plenty of time to communicate with people.
at the rate that EAware is patching DAI, Witcher 3 will be out sooner and by then I doubt many people will still be paying attention to DAI unless bioware releases some substanial DLC or releases patches faster

Yup, agreed.

They don't care if we enjoy it, or even if we play it. They only care that we buy it. I hate to be so pessimistic, but that is really how it seems now. Can't blame anyone but myself though. After the mess that was DA2 I should have never preordered DA3, but sadly I fell for the hype. I really did think that they would make a mends after the backlash that they got for DA2. I really would love an ask anything with Laidlaw to see him explain himself for the pre-release videos of DA3.

Lmao...you calling people trolls...and calling bioware defenders louder than most...(including you...who literally just posted 3 posts in a row as you wrote this.) You are the loudest of them all, and you are as big of a troll as anyone.
People are annoyed with aspects of the game like every game in history, me included. The mass majority of people outside this forum are having little to no issues...which is why none of you will be getting your money back, and the over the top complaining about being scammed is hilarious. You guys act as if you have either never played another game, or your memory and time playing those games vanished from your brain once you found out how much you hate DA:I. DA:O was massively buggy for many people, as was Skyrim, as are 95% of fallout games. You guys are just yelling the loudest because it is the new fad. The sad thing is though, none of you will get anything out of it.
Why did they remove Tanks and Ranged characters from DAI? Can sort of understand removing Healers.
Oh yes! They just renamed them, silly me! Why didn't I see that?
Solas is Tank, Cassandra is now ranged. Varric, not sure about him. Mage??
So easy to miss!
Well
Are there any news about PC playing experience?
The game is completely unplayable with a mouse and keyboard, especially if you are not a mage ... its awful.
The "strategic camera" is completely useless the way it is ...
Any news about bioware stop counting money and fix the game?
