No one likes being marginalized ... that's exactly what's going on though. The PC community is not part of the main go to market strategy of EA. We are on the periphery. The PC will receive PORTS from next gen consoles as long as the development required is insignificant compared to the overall investment. Meaning we get crap like DA:I delivered with the promise of "PC games from PC Gamers ...." Big public publishers like EA are simply revenue driven and the strategy makes sense.
From EA perspective, this means we (the PC community) are marginalized. Our opinions don't matter. Our dollars are pennies compared to the console revenues and our threats of shopping elsewhere matter little to them.
Now if Sony or MSFT were upset about something, you can bet there'd be a different level of reaction completely.
Hey BioWare/EA
Just because I understand what's happening from a business perspective, doesn't mean I accept being treated this way. Do unto others ..... as the saying goes.
It is as you say.
But I couldn't care less about EA. We all know what they're about.
But Bioware? They used to be all about the love of gaming and creating games to match their passion as was evident in DAO, to mention only one. Why would they shift their focus so drastically just because they are owned by EA? It is not EA telling them to stop communicating with their fan base, and I very much doubt EA told them to sell us a bunch of lies about what to expect in this game. That was all Bioware.
But then I guess Bioware is only the sum of its parts and with EA's Cameron Lee coming into the mix as "Producer" for example (go look at his LinkedIn page to see what he's all about) I guess it is no real surprise that the focus has indeed shifted. It happens. It is sad that it does but such is life.
The thing I can't excuse however is them doing business with me on false premise. Selling me a bunch of lies and then expecting me to be grateful for their effort. We are in business, me and Bioware. We have an agreement: they create a product and I trade them that product for currency and in turn they create more product. Demand and supply.
But then what happens when this business arrangement is betrayed? Simple - I take my business elsewhere.
Is that good business practise on their part? Definitely not! Because I sure as hell am not the only one feeling this way, only a vocal minority that expresses frustrations many other quietly endure.
In the end, I (we) am the one with the power, NOT Bioware! Without us buying their games and staying interested in their franchise, they are like a fart in the wind. They will simply fade away eventually.
It is a very competitive market and if they really think they are immune to failure, good luck to them!
