Open door policy means not setting a definition of "real" whatever-fan as one who likes exactly what I like in exactly the way I like it. And not being condescending and/or hostile towards others whose preferences differ from mine.

Yeah, but are you satisfied with the product above?:

a console game that happens to be working (not for everyone) on PC with zero changes from the console one, even the limitations of the controller got implemented into it and you get 90% most boring kind of mmo content and 10% good dragon age-worthy story if you play through it.

You can be a PC gamer.

You can be a real PC gamer.

You can be a REAL PC gamer.

I don't care. I just prefer gaming on a PC and I prefer to build my own.

This is the PC Community Concerns thread and there's room for us all here.

We're like family ... some are harder to get along with than others but they're still family.

I don't mind if a console gamer wants to speak their mind here either, as long as they have a thick skin. ;)

I agree.  It should add, improve, innovate.  Not go backwards, which is what DA:I did (contrary to what they said/assured people of).  Tactics, gone.  Control options, gone.  It's not identical, it's gutted.

They going in the good way then since DA2 was a step back from Origins as well

I don't know if the skill slots are limited  due to the UI or for gameplay purpose like some other games(guild wars)

Skill Slots are limited becouse of the number of buttons gamepad have, on x360 controller u have 4 slots under X,A,B,RB and if you want next 4 u need to hold LB or LT, rest of buttons have already other purposes so designers could not fit anymore skills in It, and becouse PC version is a console port we have the same thing. As you see that is perfect example that shows Dragon Age Inquisition was designed for the consoles from the very beginning.

They could add more slots to the PC version, but they knew they are not going to put extra effort, or they were afraid that console gamers will get mental about it.

I think the fact that this thread was locked and then reopened shows that we have someone's attention.

I also think "no response" is a response.

Yup, 1st playthrough you don't notice much but the game, 2nd playthrough I was like holy **** flying npcs, and whos that head sticking out the grass :)

This was in character number 3, didn't happen (at this spot, anyhow) in chars 1 & 2). It amused me:

Spoiler

And don't even get me started on the Solas/Dalish Elf/Mythal Temple conversation anomalies. Not a PC-only bug, and PW has already acknowledged some of the conversation was cut.... but, geez.... the illogic.

Also, I can see from what choices were stripped from the Keep in the last 2-3 days before release (things that were present for months before) that some other content may have been cut at the last minute (although obviously that's not for sure, it's just my presumption-- but why would you have been asked whether Hawke and Cullen were friends only to have that removed at the last moment? Because in DA2, Hawke and Cullen could be friends by Act 3. You can even say "I just wanted to see how an old friend is doing in this difficult time" to Cullen in Act 3. If it didn't matter, i.e, there weren't inactive triggers in the game, then it wouldn't have needed to be removed. Just like other choices in the Keep that have no impact on DA:I at all -- eg,whether you rescued Nathaniel Howe, what happened to Bella [they're still missing the "became a maid in Arl Teagan's household" option, too], etc). It's also apparent that some other things were cut by the VO actors who are credited, but who don't actually appear in the game (eg, Timothy Watson, who played Teagan. As far as I can hear he's not doing other VOs. I'm willing to be corrected there, but I'm usually pretty good at picking that [the only VO actor who genuinely flummoxes me is Mark Hildreth [Sten]. He's often very difficult to pick. Seriously, watch him in Resurrection and then the beginning of POTC2 reading the list of suspended rights, and then listen to Sten. It doesn't sound like the same man. He's that good. Even Greg Ellis' bit parts in DA:I I can pick, and he's usually pretty good at hiding his voice].). They also had Mika Simmons, so they could have had Bella instead of Flissa, rather than forcing us to listen to Queen bloody Anora reading the Chant every time you ran past a Sister in Haven... also, I will never choose Chantry garden again because I couldn't stand it any longer. Triggers through the wall every time you went to the war room. I'm sure Ms Simmons is lovely, and she does a great job--but I hate Anora with the fire of 600,000 tiny candles so hearing "her" all the time started to... grrr).

The Warden-talking-to-Morrigan-about-child not triggering bug also seems to be PC-only. The only people who have images and who have seen it are on console.

I actually have no issue with cut content (except that Solas thing--it's immersion breaking if you're an elf, especially if you're romancing him), because, time does run out. And if it's reissued in a patch or DLC, sure, no probs. And I think it is true that DA:I was originally intended to be something very different (whether MMO or not) and that the direction was changed halfway through the process, which makes the lead time even less. Again, no probs--but it equals rushed content. I would have preferred Bioware pushed the release a bit more than this.

But I also understand that EA was a factor. They wanted it out.

So, the real issue here, ethically speaking--the part I'm genuinely angry at--is not the broken state of the game. That's unfortunately become par for the course for all AAA games over the years; they've become lazier as online patching became more prevalent (it used to be if you wanted to patch a game, you needed to issue another disk/version, so it behooved companies to actually release finished, or mostly finished enough, product). The real issue is the "PC-version" marketing, which was genuinely dishonest. There is no way they didn't know it was this broken on PC, sorry.

EARWIGS!

Also, to the joker who thinks that wasd (as it presents itself in DA:I) is how all mmorpgs are played.

Ha!

Go and play WoW. Two mouse-button, mouse to cursor movement. It's how I Arena, so my left hand can use hotkeyed ability macros while the mouse takes care of movement-to-strafe.

/joke mode on

Or... well, I could go all elitist jerk on you.... the kind of player who wasds and clicks your ability bars [note the PLURAL, there, Mr Darrah!] in raids??? *gasp!!* Amateur. ;)

/joke mode off

It's also how I quest, some days, so I can feed my face/drink coffee while playing. My gaming time is valuable. I like to multitask.

There is nothing we can do, they simply don't care.

But you can do something for you, don't ever again buy a Bioware Game (at least not al full price) and tell your friends to do the same.

This maybe doesn't affect Bioware's wallet but you will save a lot of time and money.

Again not trolling but, I fail to see the major problem with the PC controls. Yes there could be some minor changes, like being able to map side mouse buttons and, added hotbars or ability slots but, those are UI issues, not fundamental control issues.

I am exclusively a PC gamer after trying a console and ending up confused and frustrated by the controller. DAI is pretty standard KB+M Mouse to steer and attack, keyboard to move and select abilities. Abilities will either be the F keys or the numeric keys across the top of the keyboard. WASD for directional control when you need to move in smaller increments than the mouse allows, or when you need to fire and move (strafe)

What I get out of the complaints is a bunch of console gamers that aren't willing to learn to use KB+M. Those that learned RPG gaming on a KB+M initially seem content enough with the controls. Pretty much the same as any other PC RPG/Combat game. Now I would love it if the Devs took a hint form Rift and gave us the UI expansion options that game has.

First of all, Yes, you are trolling.  Not on purpose because I think you honestly believe what you're saying, but because you apparently do not have the understanding of those of us who have issues.

I will make it very clear for you.

I have replayed DA Origins numerous times since it's release, probably 15 times if not more.  DA2, I replayed slightly less but multiple times as well.

The ONLY keyboard key I needed to touch (aside from the Esc button) in all those playthroughs has been the spacebar, to pause the game.  Everything else was done with a basic 5 button mouse.  Because of the control scheme that Bioware designed.

Now re-read your 1st 2 para's above with that knowledge.  I crossed out your 3rd because I don't know wtf you're talking about in it.

This is not the 1st time this idea of overlapping controls has been discussed here.

This is not an accident.

Actually, come to think of it, not only can I wasd in WoW, and map all of my mouse, should I choose, or use move-to-cursor two-mouse button, I can also use my arrow keys to move (both the ones on my keyboard and the ones on my numlock)--and all without remapping. I can go forwards with my w key and backwards with my down arrow, and then switch to s immediately. And then immediately move forward using my mouse only (while I take a mouthful of the coffee in my left hand), and then I can immediately left-click attack and mouse click my action bar, put my coffee down, and then use a hotkey to Bestial Wrath, then strafe using my mouse movement and hotkeys when their CDs have finished. Oh, and "backwards" means just that. I back up. I don't turn around and run the other way.

Also, a and d are literal sideways movements--left and right respectively. If I want to strafe I use q and e and/or move-to-cursor.

With the arrow keys near my right hand and my hotkeys being used by my left and right hands, I could actually play WoW without a mouse, if I wanted. And with their mouse support and remapping and enough mouse buttons, I can play without hotkeys.

All of those different methods of movement/attack are available to me, in WoW, simultaneously.

And if I don't like any of it? I just remap everything. Like, everything. I can attack using my delete and esc keys if I wanted. I don't. That's an example. But I could. My son--whose play style is very different to mine--uses mouse movement exclusively and has almost his entire keyboard mapped to macro hotkeying. It's so different to mine that logging into his char to check his mail (his Main is still on my account and he no longer lives with me) sometimes has me accidentally charge the nearest wall instead of opening the mailbox. Heh. Yeah, I don't play warrs on WoW, even if they're my favourite DA class... but I digress. I think his mapping is insane, but that's HIS char, so HIS choice. DA:I took all choices away.

WoW is all very efficient, really. And DA:O had similar mouse and keyboard mapping and support.

DA:I wasd is just like current MMOS. Snort. If anything, the comparison shows -- even more -- how clunky and awful DA:I's KB&M is.

Seriously, I just played an archer in DA:I. I would have loved to back up occasionally instead of turning all the way around just because I hit s. And don't even get me started on melee. In WoW, I don't have to worry about my DK standing there doing nothing like a diseased lummox just because I have to reposition her or the enemy took a step sideways (but, y'know, is still within reach), or my Kittehdruid going "hey, taking a nap now, because that guy moved". You have to literally turn your back on an enemy to not attack it if it's still within range. Because, yay, autoattack.

If they were trying to emulate MMOs (a PC-oriented genre, btw), they did a horrible job of it.

I played origins in third person view, wasd and a lot of key bindings. I hate isometric game, its too old-school for me. I could perfectly see what was happening from third person and i could control party members with click to move when switching for commands. Being tactical does not mean a camera angle. Tactics and RTS style command issue is what makes it. This game failed at the core of the combat when they thought this can be an action game if you want or if you really want to you can make it a crpg if you change the camera angle. Epic fail. This is not a good tactical rpg and not a good action rpg. And on top of that an unmodified console game on PC. Its pretty far from even an rpg in the classical term.

Edit: You make choices (regardless of scale of the consequence) so it is literally role playing, cant say its not an rpg because you get trolled.

Ediit2: Disregard everything i wrote! maps are HUGE! 10/10

BioWare update please? Even if it's just on Twitter, Facebook or Reddit. Someone may be nice enough to relay it on your thread.

Day 401

Paul died. We reluctantly... we ate Paul. We didn't speak about it afterwards. I remember that we just stared at his lifeless corpse laying there. He was the funny one up to the very end. He was a good one and he will be missed. And still, we took a vote. I voted against it but in the dark parts of my mind I know I wanted to vote for it or knew it would still come to that decision with or without my input. I understand our position. As monstrous as it was we all accepted what we had done and continued on. Please let spring arrive soon.

I haven't posted on here yet, but I've been coming to the forum to check on things here pretty much every day since its inception (BWWAAAAAHHHH).

Like many of you, I am an avid PC gamer. I tried to play DA:I on launch day after pre-ordering it for both my gf and myself (big DAO fans). Also, like many of you, I will never be buying a Bioware title again.

This saddens me greatly. As a 33 year old, I was just 17 when I walked in to my local computer game shop with a few bucks in my pocket and started perusing the boxes on the shelf. One in particular caught my attention, as I'm sure many here can agree: Baldur's Gate.

God, I loved that game. I STILL DO. Every one of the Infinity Engine games I played to death, and still am to this day (a buddy and I just finished a BG playthrough a couple days ago and are starting up BG2). This was the beginning of my love affair with Bioware.

In those halcyon days, they couldn't go wrong. First BG and TotSC. Then SoA and ToB. Followed up by NWN and its expansion packs (especially HotU!). Then when you thought things couldn't get any better the Mass Effect series started. Then the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, DA:O and DA:A. Amazing games, and I loved every one. And all, it could be argued, were designed for PC. This train of excellent games built up a fierce loyalty towards Bioware in me. I placed Bioware firmly on the pedestal of developers I truly trusted with my money and, even more important to me, my time. This was not an easy club to get into, and to this day the only developers to have made it into the club and remain there are Blizzard and Bethesda. At the time that Bioware was amongst their ranks, it would have been the Captain.

But no more. I feel absolutely gutted by their betrayal. The first signs for me were DA2 but I thought, hey, even my other two 'trusted' developers have released the odd questionable title without losing their position (Blizzard with Diablo 3 and Bethesda with Dishonored). And besides, it's not like they were actively trying to release a bad title or deceive their fanbase.

Then the hype for DA:I started. I gobbled up the press and honestly felt that my trusted developer was back. Yea, they'd made mistakes with DA2, but they were going to rectify them and give us everything we wanted out of a sequal to DA:O. I couldn't wait for them to be redeemed.

I am incensed by their lies. The absolutely BLATANT manipulation of the media leading up to launch, and the malicious intentional deception as evidenced by their whole "For PC gamers by PC gamers" slogan, is unconscionable. I feel like I've been cheated on by my wife of 20+ years. It honestly leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth and a sickness in my stomach. I could've abided another unpopular title. I could've forgiven them falling flat on their face when honestly trying to make a game better but not succeeding. But the lies and deception, I cannot forgive.  I wish it was possible to sue them for false advertising.

Sorry for the rant.
