Checking back in at the end of month two here I have to say I am impressed with the PC players that have been carrying the fight this long.

I'd like to personally thank all the PC players who have posted here to try and make this game better.

As a modder I can say I don't have the 400 spare hours to mod and fix the PC controls for this game. I don't think any modder does. Let it be known that I strongly believe it will be very possible to mod and fix AI issues (I've done it before) and many other "issues".

If we can just get the PC controls in order here, then I and other modders (I believe) can take care of many other things.

Please keep up the good fight. At this point, as a Dragon Age fan, I still am interested in buying and modding the crap out of this game once the PC controls are acceptable.

Thank you all again.

Thank you, kind Sir.  I stand by my earlier comments about you, though.

^^^ VoteDC - Sure, it's innocuous.....that poster still says a LOT about their attention to PC gamers/

Get the picture?

What exactly does it say about their intention toward PC gamers?

It only shows  that PC gamers have around the same spread of playing a male or female Inquisitor  as those who own a 'last gen' system.

maybe people should send tips to kotaku http://kotaku.com/ho...taku-1679800733

Nah... Kotaku is Gawker. Anything they do follow restrict top direction editorial guidelines, ie, not offend advertisers, or even better, dox advertisers.

User

Apologies if this is ignorant, but shall the patch be mostly directed towards single player, multiplayer, or both?

Mark Darrah ‏@BioMarkDarrah

both but mostly SP I think

.... okay.  As someone who's asked (repeatedly) for some type of comment on the patch, I have to acknowledge that it fits the definition.  I am happy to hear something's being done ... just not final at this point.  Okay, once it is finalized they can announce (not here of course), what's there.

Thanks for posting the twitter link.

They must be close if Darrah is twatting about it.

@serenai

feel free to quote me, though I don't think my opinions are all that useful. and I don't really feel like sifting through 400+ pages of posts to dig mine out. sorry, I'm just far too lazy for that.

What i found interesting, as a side note, was the hell storm around AC Unity. People were mad about it.

At least Ubi was answering, and as fast as it could delivered patches.

I recently started to play the game, 2 weeks ago. Im in love with it. Being a long fan of the series, im finding it better than AC3 or AC4. Also i got a nice discount on holiday sale, and even yesterday Steam gave me (guess for all) Dead Kings DLC for free. I guess this is some Ubi compensation for the problems.

I dont know about people with lower systems, but on my modest beefy system (4790K, 16GB 2133, GTX 980 OC), im getting 60FPS constant, with everything maxed except AA. The game has some minor bugs, but its very enjoyable now.

Even CA/Sega took a whole of press and PR for a year until Rome 2 was in a good Shape.

it seen EA isnt only bad on its strategems, its also very bad at PR and post sales relationship. After Unity and Rome2, i still want to purchase more from Ubi and CA, but from failure to failure, i just hate EA. Every damn game is a mess. PR is abysmal. Lies after Lies.

If you have +30 years, you should remember what EA was, when the logo was a block, cone and a sphere. When EA competed with Sierra.

At that time, EA distributed nice games. Someone remember Seven cities of gold? Ultima Series? Simcity (the real not recent mock)? Dungeon Keeper?

It seen that EA have a lot of talent to publish, but once things get produced into EA, it goes always bad.

There is a Joke "EA is where game franchises go to die".

I'm glad that Darrah broke his silence finally... Would have been nice to see him post in the thread HE CREATED as well.

that's just too logical, and bioware and logic are hardly on speaking terms anymore it seems.

Let me see if I can outline my thoughts & feelings without being too negative or pissy.  I admit, I'm frustrated.  I'll try to be as objective as I can.

  • On patch 3 "soon" - He mentioned that the patch is not locked down yet.  I don't work in the gaming industry, I worked in the commercial software industry as QA.  We did parallel testing alongside the devs as they made fixes.  Once a patch was locked, the code was frozen as-is unless there was a program-breaking bug.  The locked code came to us and we did all the testing we did in parallel over again, in addition to regression and smoke testing to shake out any problems caused by the changes.  This was the longest part of the process for us.  If the nomenclature is the same, and it totally may not be but that's the standard terminology, then patch 3 is not locked and has not gone to QA for regression.  So there are two options:  One, it really is "soon" because they aren't doing regression/smoke testing, only in parallel, and they won't have enough time to catch any new bugs caused by the patch.  Two, they are going to get it and it will be at least February before it rolls.  Either way, aside from the fact he actually referenced it, it is not thrilling news (to me).
  • He referenced the fact they are "looking into it right now" about a Black Emporium type of character tweaker for inside the game.  He said that right after the game launched, and then again when the bug with the customizable Hawke resulting in voice change came to light.  They've been "looking into it right now" for two months.  There are people who have 80+ hour games who STILL do not have a fix for the voice switch.  That's not a priority?  That hasn't been a priority?  I can't even.

You'll notice I didn't insult, provoke, be rude, and am only slightly sarcastic.  But this, especially the latter because 80 hour games, just speaks to priorities and respect for players' time to me.  I do not understand the lack of care or communication.  The tweet does not excite me in any way, and I will not thank him for it.  Sorry.

Edit to add, just to save you the time:  "See?!  Nothing would satisfy you!" (yes, something would: an apology, concern of any kind, a picture of a solitary tear trickling down his cheek, info on what is being patched, regret at not being able to create world peace)

So you're complaining that it's been two months and an issue is still not resolved, but are thoroughly disinterested on the reasons WHY it's been 2 months without the issue being resolved?

So there are two options:

BioWare has no control over the certification process, and they typically don't like to give information while that process is ongoing (because things can and do change).

There have been volumes of discussion on this topic, so no.  I'm only disinterested in your non-response.

But I will add this:  In the same timeframe, AC:U has received 4 patches and a couple hotfixes, an apology, free DLC, and has been adroit at communicating, updating, and interacting with their customer base.  We have received no information since immediately before Patch 2.  If you think the holidays excuse that, please be my boss.

"Looking into it right now" is pretty broad. It doesn't say anything about how big or small a priority it is. And you yourself say we don't know what the details of Bioware's process are.

Your inferences are spurious and more than a little self-serving.

Mark Darrah's bosses care way more about him actually getting the game fixed than they do about him coming in here and holding anyone's hand.

It's not in the patch, obviously.

My inferences are predicated on experience and expertise, hardly spurious.  Every single post on these forums is self-serving in some form.

Edit to add:  "holding anyone's hand" - Oh, you mean like having some respect for folks' frustrations, justified anger over the deceptions, understanding and/or compassion for broken games?  That's not "holding anyone's hand", that's basic courtesy and customer relations.  Regarding it as hand-holding is exactly the problem, and it's more immature than expecting what has been promised and posting unrelentingly about it.

while i agree to this holiday thing while the game is in a bad state for some people i still have to laugh about the unity comparison

a free dlc so shortly after release is cut out content from the game to sell seperate as dlc and nothing else. and for the patches, the latest patch broke for a lot of people the game even more (especially sli users that have now every water flickering like hell). so you can critize bioware for what they are doing, but to bring in unity as i shiny example means just, cut content from the main game and sell it as dlc and release patches not properly tested. for me not the way it should work

It's definitely a silly example when it comes to quality.  I meant it more as an example of communication and, y'know, trying to placate customers.  Instead of not.  But, yeah, it's Ubisoft.

And the day that Ubisoft is better at pretty much anything than Bioware is indeed a sad day in my book.
