It's definitely a silly example when it comes to quality.  I meant it more as an example of communication and, y'know, trying to placate customers.  Instead of not.  But, yeah, it's Ubisoft.

as a shiny example of good game support i have to point out age of wonders 3 from triumph studios. the game was released end of march last year and is still supported. they did multiple fixes and balancing patches (a few huge ones with adding new spells and mechanics), a free little christmas dlc for more customization of characters, a big dlc with a lot of content (and with the dlc adding even more new mechanics as a free patch into the game for none dlc users) and the next dlc is in the making and it gets even bigger and again as part of the dlc again new mechanics are added to the base game for free, and the community manager is still very active in the steam forums and post on a nearlxy daily bases and they have weekly development updates.......its a dream

maybe its a bit offtopic, but i think in times where developers behave not really good to their customers you should advertise such shining pearls and support this kind of behaviour. endless legends was pushed way more than this little treasure and age of wonders 3 deserve way more attention for multiple reasons

There was a time when BioWare actually supported their games and had good communication with us. If anyone remembers Neverwinter Nights. That game was updated on a constant basis for years. Then EA swallowed up them and now things are as they are now. I don't think we're even dealing with BioWare anymore. Just the illusion they even still exist. For example, someone stitches a pair of shoes together with a kit in their basement and puts the Nike logo on them. What do you call that? That's what we've got now. An imposter.

i'll admit that's what it feels like to me, though, I'm hoping that's the illusion.

That's how I feel too! The very first PC I built was so I can play Baldur's Gate. That same rig carried me through all the way to Neverwinter Nights. Every one of Black Isle's and Bioware products were all ready to go on launch. Bioware and Black Isle used to host mIRC chats with the developers and oh Maker that was fun. They would accept your recommendation as something they would look into or tell you up front that they're limited in implementing something. Either way, there was a strong connection between Bioware and their hardcore PC fans. Now, there is a huge disconnect unless the forums blow up into angry rants and fanboys spouting nonsense. By the way, the original founders are no longer with Bioware. Many of the programmers who worked at Black Isle left for Obsidian (which now holds the Bioware-produced Fallout franchise) while many of the original Bioware teams are off developing games using the older engines to make new games. I love the franchises Bioware built (Dragon Age, Fallout and Mass Effect), but the focus is now more about developing games without that fan connection during the creation process. As far as Bioware leaning towards MMOs, I hope they learned all the hard lessons from Star Wars: the Old Republic (ANOTHER BUST AT LAUNCH AND I OWN THE COLLECTOR'S EDITION) and it's subsequent fall to Free2Play. Also, when I did call Bioware for support, I got someone in California. Now when I call, it's rather obvious I'm calling into a foreign country for help. Yeah, this is a rant and I'm sorry. I just feel cheated... AGAIN. Maker, help Bioware.

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw

So, I haven’t been much on Twitter. Needed a big break after DAI. Thanks for your patience with that.

Here, now that we’re back from holidays, we’re working extensively on patches. Lots of fixes to make.

Rose coloured glasses.  I was active on the forums during the baldur's gate time and there was savage criticism of those games (and just as much if not more in terms of neverwinter).  Karzak, Gromnir, newc, among many others gave them a kicking.  The difference was that they had mods, unpaid, who engaged with the fans and were temperate, smart, and even-handed.  If memory doesn't fail me, syrsuro (sp?) stands out that way.  And you had actual bio guys like priestly who gave as good as he got.

It would probably go a long way (he says, as a member of the peanut gallery) if they were to implement that system again: i) community mods who had at least some insight into what bio was up to, to be here ii) some kind of community manager of the forums.

As to EA swallowing them up, aside from the odd post from regular ink stained plebs like Gaider posting, it's not like you had Ray or Greg posting with any frequency.

Edit don't worry eagle eyed viewers, I gave it a good dust-down after booting it up to make sure everything was A-OK

Nice wire management.  Clean.

Really? I just waited for Windows 98 to load and looked through my old mIRC chat sessions. That old rig still works. I'm going to play Icewind Dale on it now and listen to Jeremy Soule's beautiful music after this. Anyway, I think you're the one having memory issues because I just read Baldur's Gate 2 mIRC where many of us had questions about system and gameplay. You're asking yourself why would I keep this chat session. Pride. I felt like I had contributed to Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale 2 and Planescape. Also, nothing... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING... was so savage as these current forums. Actually it was pretty cool. People asked questions and those questions were answered. Please, I'm probably the oldest fan of Bioware (going back to MDK) and stubbornly still am, just not happy with the new regime.

Soule's work on iwd - absolutely lovely.

A weird order on what you had an effect on.  Gate 2, icewind 2...and then torment??

The forums, though I just popped in now and again, seemed far more "savage" on the mass effect 3 ending.

Stubborn and confused, I'd think.  :)

Not in that order, but come on man... And yes, Mass Effect 3 (EA/Bioware) drew a lot of anger and I was there to voice my frustration as well, but only for the ending. By the way, the biggest complaint about IWD and IWD 2 was that the game was really linear. The biggest complaint about Neverwinter Nights 2 was the control schemes. Holy cow... we've revisited this.

That wasn't the complaint on iwd.  It was that it was a tactical d&d game at the expense of npc story - done by black isle.  And so you had a rush of story fanatics, looking for romance etc meets a moderate challenge (ie bio) who got wiped over and over.  Had nothing to do with linearity.

As to neverwinter 2 - that was a fine title, so be silent.  Both in terms of controls and in terms of story.

Nice wire management.  Clean.

Thanks did my best to make sure all the cables didn't interfere with the airflow of the 7 140mm and 4 120mm fans, the only thing I'm dreading in that in about a month's time finances permitting I'll be installing a custom water loop and I'll have to undo then redo all the wire management again(the back is 5 times neater than the main compartment. The loop is going to consist of:

Alphacool D5 360 UT(60mm thick Rad)Kit

2 R9 290 GPU Waterblocks ( haven't decided yet whether to go for the EK-Full Cover with the Red Backplate of the Alphacool Nexxos GPX Blocks)

Monsoon Red Compression fittings

Alphacool UT 140 Rad in upper rear (where the Corsair White LED Fan is)

Going with Mayhems Coolant but having a hard time choosing between their X1 Blood Red or the IceDragon White.

You're forgiven. I'd like a glass of West Hill Brandy and let's play some Wicked Grace. WICKED GRACE! Wouldn't it be cool to play that with Varric like a game of Caravan in Fallout: New Vegas? Or just to play online with other Dragon Age fans? I think it would be cool...

Same here JackPoint. It was a learning curve, but I won't blame Bioware for that. That was Obsidian, but yeah... I pretty much left that game to collect dust until the DLCs came down in price. To be honest, I can't even recall the storyline to NWN 2 or KoTOR 2, but I'm old.

Oh my goodness. How awesome is the music to Icewind Dale. I just entered Kuldahar and I was brought to tears by Jeremy Soule. I'm off to Kresselac's Tomb to hear Tony Jay's voice. Man... Sorry. This is the wrong area for this topic. Ahh... BSOD. Now, I remember why I shelved this beast.

the Story of KOTOR 2 centered around the after effects of the Republic-Mandalorian War,your character was 1 of a group of Jedi Knights and Padawans led by Master Revan and his apprentice Malak who went against the Councils orders and aided the Republic. The War Culminated at the "Battle of Malachor V" where your character ( The Exile) ordered the activation of the superweapon created by your crew mate Bao-Dur resulting in the utter destruction of Malachor V and every living creature on/near the planet only 2 force sensitives survived, your character and your main enemy Darth Nihlus (Lord of Hunger) who as a side effect of the superweapon had to drain other sentient beings of their "life essence" to survive.Your Character survived by severing his/her connection to the force. When you re-establish that connection at the start of the game you find that you can learn and Master in seconds techniques that a Jedi/Sith decades to perfect.

Yep. I knew that. Still gotta give credit to Bioware. They made the engines and usually the first game from that engine.

And the day that Ubisoft is better at pretty much anything than Bioware is indeed a sad day in my book.

When I built my second rig, the first game I installed on it was Ubisoft's Pool of Radiance. I couldn't get the game to start and ended up having to reinstall Windows XP because part of hard drive got wiped during the game's install. I never finished that game and it took me a long time to forgive Ubisoft. Ubisoft seems to take a step forward and then a step back. One game is brilliant and the next is rage-quitting. RAGE!!!
