The review is glaringly sarcastic. I am guessing that your handling of the English language doesn't allow you to catch the irony, but I assure you despite the score that is not meant as a positive review...

Guys, unfortunately the axe is about to fall on our heads...Nov 25th makes 7 days from opening and its also the last day to ask for refunds if you bought and started playing the game since Nov 18th....now, I am not suggesting any one to refund their game; I am just saying THIS is the game...there is no going to be any PC fixes whatsoever. Bioware doesn't hate PC gamers, they just love money more.....

Do you guys know the latest Grand Theft Auto sold about 11 million copies? do you know how many of those actually god mad because the latest version doesn't follow the canons of the older versions? ZERO...and that plays perfectly with today's gaming industry. total forgiveness for whatever they do or change.....

It is people who buys car chasing games who this new DA:I is directed to....they will play it for a few hours, get bored, forget about it and go back to shooting hoops with their controllers

so, I really believe is time now to make our peace, so, whoever wants to play this game the way it is, hopefully you will enjoy, those like me, will either ask for a refund or simply move on and waste our money on chocolate ice cream or any other indulging thing

I will leave you all with these thoughts(fragments) of some cretin called DragonKnight from METACRITIC who game the game a 10...it is painful to read, but unfortunately this is exactly where things are going now...

"DA:O is an old-school and mediocre game only appealing to a tiny market niche. DA II breaks the mediocrity and introduces the popular mass effect decision tree and button-mashing mechanics, which attracts tons of CoD and action gamers around the world contributing to its great success. However, it still suffers from a linear and small game world. and repetitive dungeons

.....

This game can be handled easily by controlling your own character only under and action game style. The tactics setting of companion is simplified by an user friendly level for further accessibility. IN contrast to DA:O, you can't set up come complicated tactics for your companions, but this is unnecessary anyway; friendly fire is disabled by default, so forget your companions , and let them either fight or fall

.....

Overall, by removing the complexity and annoyance from old-school RPG, adding the best elements from 2 famous modern RPG, and introducing and exciting button-mashing combat mechanics to the game, this game has reached the highest high of RPGs that none in the world could ever reach. This is a milestone of RPG development, and should be referred to it in the future development of RPGs. Today is an important day that marks the beginning of a revolution in RPG history! A new era of RPG has come! From now on, we can step forward and forget about all classic RPGs in the old-school days. Everyone, express your praise and gratitude towards our beloved developers and join us to have fun in this master piece of art now!"

Honestly its hard to believe that its already been a week and not a single patch has come out for this game on the PC. You can clearly see which platforms they favor....

Well, thats probably because the game they released is the one they wanted to release. They knew full well about the UI/controls (maybe not some of the video issues) on the PC... thats just it; they want you to buy a console; get the hint?

Inquisition has the exact issue that I had with Battlefield 4 with the massive stuttering.  The problem is absolutely identical.   Battlefield 4, however, has an option to launch in x86 from the Origin's game settings option, which COMPLETELY eliminated this problem (For practically everybody) And no, it didn't force every graphics option to low, either. Same settings.  How come Inquisition doesn't have this option?  They're both on the same engine

It is likely that instead of just spawning threads to do work that they wrote the code to do different tasks on specific cores. Like telling it to look at core #3 for configuration and saves, sound and enemy AI on core #4, etc

yes, my "handling" of the English language allowed my to catch the irony of the post; unfortunately, like you, I CANNOT ignore the score he gave(of course, you will think its also part of the irony)...I do believe people like that(DragonKnight) really exists and his post plays perfectly with the direction of pretty much every game from Bioware in the last 3 years.....

is us who are blind followers....

After I watched this video last month it got me excited for the game on PC....too bad there's no truth to it, just an advertisement to sucker people in to buying the PC version.  Wonder if they're paid actors?

I see both points here, if I end up in a heavy firefight (or just before) its useful to hit F5 but then again I don't rely on it, as when things calm down I do a regular save through menus. I don't see why they left if out when it was there previously. It would be different (and worse) if they had nothing but an autosave system. I like to choose when and how to save  ;)

I had lots of problems with stability until I switched to  344.75 drivers, couldn't even get past Character Creation. Is the driver a clean install? If not when did you last do a clean install... just wondering?  :)

BTW whats your game settings?

Last night actually :P That's when I did the rollback. I completely removed the driver and freshly installed 344.65 (my PC did that automatically instead of going straight to .75 for whatever reason), and after that made no difference and it crashed after a lousy 7 minutes of riding a horse, used Geforce Experience (as always) to go back to .75, and I already had that driver when I got the game.

My current in game settings are:

  • windowed borderless, 1680 x 1050 resolution
  • No background programs running (skype, fraps, steam, windows live mail + a bunch of others, these normally always run)
  • Origin overlay disabled
  • mesh ultra
  • tesselation off
  • texture fade touched
  • shadow, vegetation, water etc high
  • post processing quality low
  • effects ultra
  • post processor antialiasing low
  • multi sampling off (with FXAA forced through the control panel)

Though when I first started the game I had everything cranked to ultra and played in normal fullscreen as that were the automatic settings, and it gave me smooth 60FPS in the prologue/Haven, so it's not like my PC can't handle it. When I had the first crash I had already closed the big rift (was still in Haven), and had another one an hour later or so, in the Hinterlands. I turned everything down to high and was able to play for another hour and from that point on crashes happened from anywhere between 5 to 30 minutes, though usually closer around 10 minutes. They also don't seem to be linked to anything, I've read posts where people say they often happened during conversations or when in menus... not the case with me. They're 100% random.

Perhaps it's the Hinterlands itself that is causing the problem but so far I haven't been able to actually leave it yet because of said crashes :P

I also at first thought it was perhaps an overheating issue, because the crashes to desktop come with no errors (as I see a lot of complaining about directx related crashes but I haven't had those). The thing is before DAI I ran AC:Unity at ultra at 60FPS with literally ZERO problems + fraps/steam overlay/skype etc, and it's the same with Far Cry 4. No issues there either.

This PC is barely two months old and doesn't have a lot of junk on it (did an extra complete virus and malware scan to be sure and nothing came up), so... to my best knowledge, I don't see how this can be any other but a driver problem. Unless it's really a Hinterlands issue, I have no idea.

LOL. Game made for console port. Period. PC players and hardcore RPG fans are not the main target. BioWare also made the same mistake as with ME3, trying to reach a too broad audience. But even ME3 wasn't that clunky as it got out.

Right now DAI is being torn apart by the users on metacritic and surprinsingly getting a 87% from the so-called critics. Can't wait for ME4. That will be a(nother) good moment of fun.

I badly want to play this game but my mouse hand hurts so bad I can't. My husband is playing on a console and is about 12 hours ahead of me because of it. This is insane. Where is the fix. It's been days. You can't tell me you wouldn't have a patch already.

Honestly it would take a significant overhaul to really improve the controls in my opinion. The game itself is just built different. Click-to-move and auto-attack and such would take a massive change to how the game itself functions. I don't see it happening.

You're more-than-likely correct.  Here's my question, though... How about instead of just haphazardly "cramming" a console-based control system into it, they take a little extra development time to properly port it for PC?  While we'd all hate to have to wait, it'd be a better product for us than what seems to be a pretty rough-shod, pasted-together mess. They initially only released Mass Effect on the XBox, and later (properly) ported it for the PC... Why couldn't they have done that this time? Different circumstances there, but it would achieve the same end result.

so after checking the offical twitters of biowares QA analyst, DA's executive producer, DA's creative director, and the offical DA twitter, about when a patch may be ready the consensus seem to be "what patch"

their just going around self congraluting each other

Basically, we will have to wait for player mods to get it playable. That's shameful.

 what mods

bioware/ea has not release a toolkit for the frostbite engine, its not like where DAO and DA2 ran on the same engine

so you can't even mod the crap to make it aleast playable

lol. Over the years, I've learned that doesn't mean anything. People have said alot of games couldn't be modded, including Sims 3. Players figured it out with that one. Finally, EA just gave in with it with Sims 4. KOTOR, Vampire Bloodlines, etc. They have ALL been modded in the extreme by fans. It will happen with this one too.

Seriously?

You're reading page 36 of this complaint topic (not to mention the complaints firing up all over these forums) and you do not see the villagers holding torches surrounding the castle? People are upset, rightly so, and you're telling them it could be worse? What is next: strike up the band?

What kind of a social/community media manager were you, to lack a basic empathic response?

This sort of thing can, and will, negatively impact on stock price if institutional investors read the kind of complaints I have just on Bioware's own forums. Public address forums like Twitter and Facebook are the places to go for that kind of pressure. You do not even have to "like" to people to understand where the emotions so often expressed here, if sustained, will push the company's valuation of the division. So I ask you, perhaps rhetorically, wearing your social media manager hat: seriously?

36 pages =/= representative of the actual complains. TacView, controls and UI are the only proper complaints bar a few bugs which whilst annoying, should be expected with a game of this scope.

A good manager, regardless of department, knows both sides of the field. On the one side there is the consumer which is incredibly important but on the other side is the company which is also important. I've been lucky enough to know what goes on behind closed doors and hence I can bring empathy for both sides.

The fact is that gamers are a bunch of spoiled shits. I know I am and I know by this thread that others are too. People are calling this game barely playable or unplayable. Seriously? Oh its not the control schematics we like or the UI we prefer, THIS GAME IS NOW COMPLETELY RUINED AND HORRIBLE! Get a ****** life people! And now, this debacle will not immediately lower stockprices since investors damn well know that IGN/GameSpot/Kotaku/etc are more reputable sources of info than a bunch of people on forums. So yes, seriously.

But on the upside, it looks like they released a pretty decent console game!  I just wish they would have been honest about that being the direction they were taking. I guess I can safely assume that future Bioware games are no longer for me as a PC gamer.

I got "mouse hand" too from having to use both mouse buttons at once (combat) along with the game just feeling really sluggish (I have tweaked settings many times). DA2's system worked much better; autoattack then you could manage everything else (spellbars/companions) easier. I have a bit of arthritis now so the 2 button thing is tough on me.

If you're one of those people who wants a couple of other people at Bioware to get fired because you don't like their their product, then you ****** suck. And no, I'm not putting it more nicely than that. You're a jerk and a bad person. Do you know what it's like to be unemployed? ****** terrible. You're a bad person and bad things should happen to you. That's an overreaction in the extreme. That's like me wanting someone at Jergens to get fired because some lotion gave me a rash.

A game that you don't like and *gasp* was designed with a controller in mind is not cataclysmic, it's not apocalyptic, and it's not the end of the world. You're comparing the sinking of the goddamn Titanic to a video game launch. For ****'s sake.

Noone from Bioware would get fired for this. They are just following the guidlines from the EA overlords.

This is what happens to any top AAA game developer that gets bought out by EA.

i think the difference is that frostbite 3 is their new engine for stuff like battlefield and now dragon age, i don't think ea was people to be tinkering with ther new engine and if they to release a toolkit it most likely will be after few years when the game and or engine become obslete
