I like to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I'm too nice, but I'm still a fanboy after 16 years with Bioware. Even though I felt like I've been shat on with the console port, silence from devs, etc etc.

Yeah, that's a disconnect right there. There was an interview with Larian Studios' Swen who mentioned he build Divinity Original Sin in the end - for him and his girlfriend. It's my GOTY for 2014 while I wanted DAI to be. Solid gameplay throughout DOS, and he plays his own game enough to even be able to sh-t on his own game despite critical acclaim - now that's a real dev who cares about his games.
This doesn't have to be limited to the indies, look at Firaxis' Xcom. Still remember when Jake Solomon was in a "2v2" MP session on youtube, and on his team he encouraged the journalist to make an overpowered squad to beat the other team using exploits.
Journalist: "No, that's cheating"
Jake: "It's not cheating, I just haven't fixed it yet!" lol
At Bioware instead we have the devs tweeting about playing Hearthstone or something. I don't know, from my perspective it's just... off.
i think xcom is not a good example here. many bugs were fixed only when you bought the enemy within expansion and the game still have essential bugs (f.e. line of sight problems etc). when you read the long war forum and see how many bugs they still find in the vanilla game and try to fix its hillarious. and the game is absolut modunfriendly too, for simple texture overhauls you need third party programs that hack the .exe, adding new models or only change maps is still not possible and the long war crew making the mod via hex editing.
doesnt mean the game is bad, its still one of the best turn based strategy games outthere, especially with long war mod, but it shows clearly that devs knowing there game is not a guaranty for a high quality product.
oh on the other side it showed that limitation can ADD strategy (because the 8 slot limit in da:i). sadly the limitation in da:i is pointless because its not a tactic beast like xcom.

Did they actually make any improvements to the pc interface ? I thought that was the focus of patch 3 but I can't find anything other than a new toggle option to walk (which makes no sense since there seems to be a non-functional toggle to run) which is really confusing - are there three speeds walk [??] run or does run just not work so they added walk ? Very confusing; but other than that I can't find any changes to the game worth mentioning.
You can make the mouse pointer bigger, but since it's only the original low res asset it will look like a$$

I haven't encounted many bugs with Xcom even before the expansion, but I guess I was lucky. True about the lack of mod support, either than Jake personally endorsing Long War (seriously that mod is GOLD).
However it's still a good game, and my point was based on that - not stability/moddability, but whether the game will suck you into the gameplay - which it did for me, and it did one hell of a job at it. DAI gameplay has potential that just isn't realised, but as you can imagine from the mods/creative games I play I like to tinker so I see problems and want to fix it. That's just me.

Mods are unsuported; so if you are willing to install a mod you are taking the risk of breaking the game. This is a calculated risk, but on console land this have potential to create a lot of issues. A lot of man child would complaint that the mods "Developer" "authorized" damaged their games and saves.
Console companies also dont want this kind of fuss and issues. Nonetheless, a lot of console players would welcome mods, even considering the risks, but you cant really expect community mods to be delivered. The last thing devs/publishers/console makers want is to fill their support inbox with a myriad of issues on modded games.
True.
Thank the maker that my Cass mod still works after patch3.

Yes I've heard, still awaiting more info on the crafted shields/armor bug however as well as banter before I upgrade. Holding off the temptation for now, I do appreciate that they fixed tac cam auto-centering, which was meant to be fixed in patch 2.
Here I use a Nexus mod, the CE engine and have no armour/shield "0 value " issues...
I had the tac-cam auto centering turned off from the very beginning 'cause it pissed me off the way it worked... never looked back on that decision.

And then there is also the horrible shields bug which is a side effect of this patch...
I haven't encountered it. And I don't understand why it's not a universal bug.. if it is one.

My game WON'T EVEN START.
Patch 1: game is fine.
Patch 2: game stutters so much it's unplayable.
Patch 3: game is non-existent.
What the actual f***, EA? I was patient up to now but I'm getting annoyed. Very much so.

Wait, Sartoz, you mentioned you can't find the official walk toggle in the controls right? Well, it's confirmed by others that mods using DAI tools which jury-rig the patch folder prevent your game from patching - hence you don't see the walk toggle.
So perhaps the reason you're not getting the bug, is because you're still running patch 2.

Alright Ashen, I take it back when it comes to giving Bioware the benefit of the doubt. This is just too much.
http://www.examiner....rst-to-xbox-one
This is just adding up.
First the "by PC gamers for PC gamers" marketing BS
Then the claim of "difficulty" to implement a walk toggle for 2 months while a modder managed to implement toggle/hold walk/run/jog
Then the silence by the devs, driving us insane
Then the very limited patch 3 features with new bugs reported
But now, Xbox exclusive for the DLC.
Perhaps I'm just more sensitive to this after seeing a promising new multi-platform reboot (Tomb Raider) become Xbox exclusive for its next title hence forced to cross it off my list (and hearing all the BULLSH-T from Crystal Dynamics and now... Bioware?!), and having already been burnt in the past with Bioware's console focus with KOTOR/JE/ME (and JE being Xbox exclusive) years ago...
This is just getting too much...

I can understand companies like the money that exclusives, timed or not, bring but I wonder if it is worth it at the cost of potentially alienating the fans who game on the other platforms.
Just personally speaking I have little interest in DLC for Inquisition at this point anyway. Had it come out at the same time as the One then I might have made an impulse purchase just so I could play and avoid spoilers. Since this isn't an option, I can't see myself buying any of the DLC.

Because you have Mods and CE. These apparently stop the upgrade process from completing correctly. So you are most likely still running Patch 2.
EDIT: Shield bug now confirmed as 'known issue' and 'under investigation' on Tech Support sub-forum.

Sartoz, it is as they say. The Nexus DAI Modding tool (but not CE) is forcing your game to look at the mod folder for the update, so it does not include the new stuff from the patch.
This is why I had to delete my mod folder and then BOOM! the updates (like walk toggle) showed up in my game.

I will continue to support EA/Bioware. They have done right by me in the past. That doesn't mean I'm happy with Patch 3. They should have fixed more pressing issues, not those exploits, sure they needed fixed but, they were user controllable, you didn't have to use them if you didn't want to cheat. Same for the walk toggle, it's great but, there are more pressing issues.
Thy could have improved the fuctioning of the hold command, added a second hotbar we could rotate to, given tac cam the full range of view the normal camera has, fixed the tool tip on PC that says "Press ConceptMenuAlt" a non existent key combination and, could have put a bit more effort into the banter issues instead and, it would have been a better patch. Even if they only truly fixed banter and repaired the hold command it would have been better.
I lost all banter post patch (no mods or CE, no command line arguments) I did fix it but, I had to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the game to fix it. (Typical EA BS there.)
Still have not found where or how to change character appearance in game so, haven't been able to test that yet.

Yeah, this is so much BS... I'm getting more and more disillusioned with this game, and I loved it the first time I finished it. I didn't download the new patch thankfully, I'm waiting until a hotfix for the crafted shield armour issue.
I just don't understand how a patch can break things as much as it fixes them. One assumes the best way to go about it would be to make sure it goes through enough tests as to not cause more problems. Keep in touch with the community, don't rush it, and people will be happier for it in the long run, instead of getting more and more frustrated with every bug-filled patch.
And yeah, so much for their "By PC gamers for PC gamers" schtick.. ![]()

It's not the patches that turned out to be the last straw. It's how they think we can even buy their BS. I just can't support this. However, just my opinion based on my experiences with MS, console wars with gamers suffering from it in the end, exclusives trying to get you to buy their console for ONE game, TR going Xbox exclusive for $$$ (even if it's true that Square Enix had huge unrealistic expectations from the studio when it comes to the sales and they apparently didn't deliver), combined with everything else, controller focus with DAI (and seeing people buy controllers to play this game), 2 months for a walk toggle...
I'll get my money's worth from DAI with mods then I'm out. I wish Bioware well with their direction. But this is not the industry, nor the practices that I wish to support.

I never cared much about timed exclusives, as long as i got. That was the case for Skyrim, usually i get DLCs on discount, i have even less urge when the game have vast content like Skyrim with mods.
Being locked due to greed is another completely different thing, like GTAV. We know R* is milking money, and delaying the most they could for PC. Im not really impatient, would be in the past. Now i will probably buy the game, if PLAYER reviews say its good enough port.

No, I agree. Patches are just a tangent I wanted to go into. I mean what is the point of saying you respect PC gaming and gamers and made this game toward them, while having blatant issues and features geared towards consoles? Saying the DLCs will come to Xone first? It's plain old cheating is what it is. It really doesn't make the developers look good if the current outcome is what they believe is "for PC gamers". ![]()

Even if future Bioware releases are good, they will continue these practices and I will have a choice to either:
1) Fork out cash for short term enjoyment and result in supporting all these lies in the long term
2) Hold off the short term enjoyment, support the companies that respect their player bases and gave these liars competition that they can not ignore, resulting in potentially better business practices overall in the long term.
I have to think long term, I'm getting too old for this crap and I hate to see my hobby ruined like this years from now.
