The problem with communication as I see it is this. Bioware have backed themselves into a corner. They post so infrequently that as soon as a staff member posts they get jumped on, as it is rare to see them. This in turn drives them back from wanting to post.
What they need to do is get someone posting who has a thick skin, who can take a few insults from the posters who throw them (and lets face it, it's a small minority of those who frequent here.) When an appearance of a Bioware staff member isn't treated with surprise, then they might find the community becoming less 'toxic'.

+1
If their appearances weren't that scarce and they could actually be talked to more, people wouldn't build built up their frustrations and then could in a calmer manner explain their feelings. Now, they're pretty hard to find on their own forums, while having an constant presence on Tumblr and Twitter while dodging complaints there too - making people wonder what they're up to and pissed off.

Yep, and the AAA developers need to remember this as well. One of my favorite developers is Tripwire Interactive and one of my favorite games is Killing Floor. I bought the KF through steam, all of the games dlc to date, several t-shirts,stickers and even a boxed copy of the game. Because Tripwire has always been quick to fix issues, has great community relations and most of the money spent goes right back into developing new content for their games and their next big project. AAA developers and publishers should be doing everything they can to create loyalty in their fan base, not squandering what loyalty they had. Because Tripwire has gotten more money out of my wallet than Bioware/EA will ever get. When Killing Floor 2 comes out Tripwire will be getting even more and if Bioware/EA does not shape up, this will be the last game I ever buy from them. I swore off Ubisoft and Activation years ago and I'm pretty much ready to do the same with Bioware/EA.
I did the same thing Tallman1979. Activision: bargain bin at Gamestop. I even try to persuade the salesperson to add a discount. They usually do. Ubisoft: Pools of Radiance. Wow. A mess that I never finished. Now it's Steam holiday sales and I am trading for discounts. Bioware: Broken games at launch for the fourth time and my consistent history of blind preordering is gone. Now, it's not important anymore to support Bioware. We're a nuisance. By the way, I never posted this frequently before, but I see Bioware shooting themselves in the foot and being arrogant about it. GOTY? Congratulations. Now I'm going to spend money elsewhere. That award is as hollow as a chocolate bunny around Easter time. A few satisfying bites and then you're left with guilt and regret.

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not saint and I try to stay even-handed, but I end up just talking to other forum members instead of actually taling to you know, a Bioware developer or forum administrator.

I am inclined to lay the chief stress on likeness and not difference

Day 461
My free time sends my nose to hound the sill. I stare, every now and then, out the 3rd floor window and imagine what it's like just beyond the trees. Wondering still if anything could have been different - could be different.
Growing food is proving difficult. The ground is way too hard still. Rumbling stomachs but at least the hunting isn't so bad. Sara found a dog, friendly and nice she says. She was going to name it Hope. Trevor shot it through the eye just before it reached her outstretched hand she tells me. She was furious when she came back. Trevor couldn't fully understand and instead was happy to show us all his catch. As terrible as it must have been for Sara... I cannot argue the purpose guiding what Trevor did. I'll make note to save a dog, when we're better off.

Hope you get your PC controls folks.
Finished it with a pad (ugh)
And now have no intention of replaying it for a long time.
To put into context - as soon as I finished origins I was booting up a new game 2nd, 3rd and 4th time.

And most people do, yet for some reason Bioware focus on the toxic posters rather than those talking politely.
Most members here are doing their part, being polite and respectful. It's time for Bioware to focus on those people instead of the rude and insulting ones.

I just reinstalled DA:O and bought DA 2 for really cheap. I figure by the time I play through DA:O and it's DLC for the 4th time, play through DA 2 for the first time, Bioware will have gotten around to adding pc controls and fixing the directx crash. If not, I'll simply deinstall DA:I and forget about it.

Yeah, those were the days. I honestly can't tell how many playthroughs I did in a row with Origins back when I first started playing it. Probably a dozen. That game is a masterpiece.

There really aren't that many toxic comments here. Yes, there might be some sarcastic, or crass ones but there are more constructive criticisms here more so then anything else. If you've ever been to the Blizzard forums.. you would understand.

Hm. My dislike of Kotaku has decreased slightly.
I do find it rather worrying that Bioware still won't commit to anything solid control-scheme-wise. It's all "we're working on further improvements" and "it's still a priority", but we have not a single clue as to what is being worked on or what is a priority.

From what I can see, the game is beautiful. But I can't play it, and I have tried repeatedly since I downloaded it in November. I have a PC, have been gaming for 30 plus years, and I just cannot get the gameplay figured out as it is set up for PC. I do not use a game controller, (they make me a nervous wreck) and at 68, don't think I will try to learn. I've played 700+ hours of Dragon Age Origin, love the game, tried out all types of characters, and still enjoy exploring Thedas. Have over 200 hours on DA2, not as good a game, but still a lot of fun. That being said, please get the Mouse control working so this senior citizen can play!

I've only preordered twice in my life, first time was skyrim, and I was happy with it knowing exactly what I was getting. the second was DA:I and well... never again, never ever.
DA:I remains my only preorder, ever, in 30-odd years of gaming--and I waited until 2 weeks before release, at that.
Never, ever again. Anywhere. Once burned, twice stupid.
And if I ever have the urge to pay full price for a game again, rather than waiting for half-price sales, it won't be from Bioware. They were the last subsidiary of EA I had any trust in, and they just ate it. And I am genuinely sad about that. Used to trust Canadian products, too, as a fellow C'wealther. Then you went all USEA on us. Sorry, guys, it was a good run.

Yea, this part was particularly ominous:
As for the improved controls, UI, and other elements fans have repeatedly asked for, BioWare was worrisomely hesitant to go into specifics. I asked if a better UI, an overhauled tactical view, click-to-move functionality, and better auto-attack were in the works, and all the developer offered was, "We're continuing to work on further improvements to the PC experience for our players." Huh.
Ah well, I guess I'll continue to work on other games till they realize they need to scrap everything, and duplicate the Origins scheme for DAI.
They better do it before May though, cuz everyone will have moved on to Witcher.

I think it's time for a bit of levity in our depressing situations. To take our minds off the game we can barely or can't play. So...I present you with some good upbeat music for either you listening pleasure, or for something to laugh at.

This whole situation is enough to laugh at lol
But I guess for me, its simply due to being at stage 5 of grief; acceptance. Indifferent about the whole thing now, but entertained at EA's handling of the issue.

Even if the game "gets fixed" by that time i doubt you can stomach it even with slightly better controls and crash free right after playing through the first 2 ones. But miracles happen.
Oh, what did i forget?... Hmm... Nevermind, crawling back to my trollhole.

Well, I'm sad now. Just about to delete DA:I from my hard drive. Have dvd's so may be in the future I can reinstall it. Perhaps after a toolkit has been released.
I hold little hope that Biodegradable will even try to fix this mess. One saving grace is now the press is starting to catch on!! Its not all rose colored glasses and rainbows in PC land.
Good job EA! Only took you a little while to gut BW completely. You reap what you sow.

Ironic given your name, but yes, you're right. They could, and most do, but not all will. The thing is using those few as an excuse to not engage with everyone else.

Lot of gems to play in the meantime though. Divinity Original Sin, Wasteland 2, Path of Exile, Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Dragonfall, and upcoming Pillars of Eternity.
