Stop the presses; I know how to play this AAA masterpiece, steps below:

  • Stop calling the game Dragon Age, I have been calling it Age of Green Oblivion(Working Title);
  • Forget tactics or clicking, WSAD, F , M and J only, don’t stop to think, need to seize the day;
  • Hold in mouse button when fighting, don’t bother swapping between companions or even looking at the enemy you are fighting just WSAD to the nearest enemy and hold that mouse button down, for the love of everything good in this world make sure you do not click that mouse, this is not CRPG;
  • Use pause/”tactics”  to “heal” your companions  via health potions, do not try to do anything else, the tactics screen is purely there to remind us all, that Dragon Age: Origin once existed, you know for nostalgia, aah 2009 so long ago, memories;
  • Don’t bother with Inventory because seriously you need to be holding down that mouse button and WSAD, who the hell has time for inventory management, get to the damn action already or crafting;
  • Do not zoom out, that’s just silly, come on, who the hell would plans there battles these days, just WSAD to it and hold down that mouse button;
  • Auto-fight, more like, autolazy ditto looting, walk to your loot, lazy bastard
  • Enjoy the world because it is beautiful, with dynamic psychics, full of lore and has sexy graphics, pffft combat, moving, character equipment, enjoyment and looting are all secondary;
  • When the game crashes, its fine because it just part of the experience

Disclaimer:

Above steps will make you feel soulless, somewhat feeling as if you have sold out, you may now feel like a console gamer.

Came across this official Bioware response to criticism(since removed):
"Developer" John Smith said:
"This game was always intended for the computer, see this video link  but you need to buy a controller to get the full PC experience because playing with a mouse and keyboard is so 2013, now go away; as we need to count all the money we have made from console sales because EA needs to know."

We should sue those thieves.

Dear Bioware: do you know that there are well over 450 posts concerning the directx crashes alone down in the (erroneously titled) BW Technical Support section of this forum? only a little EA "helper" there. he says Bioware never looks at those posts.

I wish all 400+ would appear in this thread. hundreds more are there with other technical issues.

on the upside, I bought a new game out of frustration & it's wonderful! "Transistor." No dragons, but I can go to Skyrim for them.

Not that worreid Halo 3 & 4 never did came to PC but borderland 1 & 2 are nice and their controls don't suck. .

Halo and Borderlands - FPS
Dragon Age - RTS/Action RPG

Sounds like two different genres, calling for two different sets of controls.

If they want to build a game that appeals just action-style games, that work best on consoles, I wish they would have the honesty to just tell us that is what they are marketing to, and the computer gamers are secondary, or lower on their priority list.  I am guessing many of us would not be so upset, if we bought the game, knowing that it was going to be lowering the standards of PC gaming, and aiming at the console crowd.  Some would not have bought the game, some would have waited.  But after being promised a PC game, where PC was the priority, we have the right to expect a top notch game, where the game functions on the PC just as well, if not better than the last few titles of the series.

Agree 100%.  If Bioware had come out during development saying hey look the best way to play the game on the PC is with a gamepad because we are not gonna optimize this for a KB+Mouse, there would have been backlash but it would have been over with by now.  Personally, I would have still bought the game but probably on the PS4, and my expectations would be set accordingly.  Based on what Bioware told us, I was expecting a DAO like game, with an interface developed for the PC, built on 2014 technology.  That aint what they gave us and so I was, and am, pissed.  Their silence on the matter adds to the frustration.

I cant understand how anyone could be accepting this situation, we were flat out LIED to, you should feel disgusted and outraged, and if you are - dont buy a single Bioware game again, refund DA:I, let people know this is a money grabbing shitty and careless port.

No PC gamer wants to support shitty ports, every single one of us becomes nauseous of disgust when he sees how pathetically greedy and utterly lazy devs can be when making PC version of a game, who the hell would want to support that kind of crap ? if it becomes clear to other PC gamers then none will bother with this.

I get this point of view but ultimately, its not like there are dozens of other PC developed CRPGs to choose from.  The classic PC RPG is almost dead.  I played Divinity OS, and loved it.  What else came out in 2014 do you think qualifies as a good PC RPG?  Blackguards was nice, played that too.  Off the top of my head, those are the only two I can think of.

FPS is suppose to sucks for console and yet 2k games did a good job making console gamers along with PC gamers happy. This game is bad. There is even no complains about skyrims console ports. Incompetents is the word for this company for giving crap PC port.

Their lies about making this game for PC is a conman job.

Well thought I would my 2 cents worth after my initial rant a few days ago and hopefully add a couple of tips that I seen other people comment so I shall do it again from my own perspective here goes:

1) I am running on Win 7 64 Ult 8 Gig & EVGA 750 gtx ti 2 gig card, cpu i5 - quad core, I have not so far had any Graphic issues other than Game refused to start until I updated my NVidia drivers to ver. 344.75 all my in game settings are set to high (otherwise you may get the Shiny Plastic hair) and have been running game for a while and ever thing as so far very smooth.

Also I run my system as clean as possible (I used it for my home development work) so be aware that some Anti-Virus programs if you got them running can cause huge amount of lagged behaviour on pc's (in general programs are slow to respond, load etc) for me I just use MS-Securities, Malware-Bytes & Rogue Killer not all at same time and also check out on what is actually being loaded at start time on pc (I use Autoruns its free and great). That being said it appears a lot of people are running into issues on good modern systems which is not good for the Game Testers;

2) Currently I do not recommend trying to play as Rogue character (one of my favs) I was initially just ripping out my hair (what's left of it) trying to engage in Melee combat and someone had posted to try and approach the game as a Ranged Character, I am now playing as a Mage and having some fun even through I have dumbed down difficultly settings (till I get use to game and creature difficultly, wish my tactic guide would show Soon);

3) UI well it is clunky but usable, managing to craft items and upgrading a couple of weapons (reminds me of another game somewhere), but I am still confused over the ability trees to a degree is there only eight slots I can use would be good to set up a few different combos and being able to change them on fly as it seems awkward to having to go into Inventory each and swap them around I not even sure I can do that I cannot find any info on that (hopefully guide might have something);

4) Tried tactics a few times, it could be me but I think it is not really of much benefit or use given limited camera angles and awkwardness (much has been said about it already);

5) I really like the environment in the game well done, it is really good, I have simply found it a pleasure no gripes there;

6) for me there really should be some thought to give disabled users (people who suffer from Arthritis and like alignments) to have a mouse point and click option as they (there many thousands who play games) should have the ability to enjoy playing a game just like everyone else (and pc is the best platform for this) but of course money talks and BS walks;

7) I don't mind the search ping (it covers a fair distance and to me it works much the same as tab) or walking up to loot objects (I can live with it) but would be nice auto walk to a selected loot object;

To round out things I can hope that foremost a patch comes out that addresses at least for those with Graphic card issues, and some of the Character Combat and Tactical issues on the PC then some faith for PC fans may be somewhat restored but I am not holding my breath for anytime soon and one more thing a halfway decent user manual would not have gone astray or better Tutorials.

It would fantastic if the Game is made available to the Modding Community at some point fingers and toes crossed.

I'm not buying the PC version of this game until either:

1)The majority of the bigger concerns about the PC version are resolved.

2)The price is reduced to closer to $40.

I expect a PC version to be as polished as the console version. Simple as that. And this looks like a failure in that regard.

A shame, because I'm enthralled with the story (and possible meta-story) that they're telling with DAI and their games overall.

HOWEVER, it is also likely that I find a loophole around this if my boyfriend gifts me DAI for my birthday or Christmas next month, so... I might be just blabbing. And I know I'll be hooking up my PC to my TV sometimes so using a controller will be happening at least sometimes. But still, BW is not getting my money, even as I really want to give them it.

I really really love this game, but it seems to have fallen for the trap of AAA games forgetting that there are essential design principles that should show even in the earliest of builds.

The PC controls feel like they were made for a drunk person, good luck trying to revive in tactical mode as you character just stands there. Talking to people swings the camera behind a wall. Party dialogue will still happen when you're on a mount, only you'll be the only one talking. Because of clutter and sound effects, it still looks and feels like your hitting an enemy that's been knocked back. Most of the loot that drop is several levels above me. Talking to NPC's while controlling another character makes an awkward conversation as they talk to the herald who is down the street somewhere....

Yea...also

Trying to using each characters skill after dealing with the tactical camera not being able to zoom out in a room....they all just stood there....and died as pin cushions for enemy archers(on normal).

First tactical fight and the games cumbersome PC interface/controls took over, with an overly aggressive ai that won't sit still. Like, I wanted to wait for the boss to walk out the room, Ice wall the other enemies in the room and attack the boss, they stood there...and died...again...And when I told the party to attack the boss, they bunched up by the door trying to attack the walled off enemies.

(Don't even mention the watered down A.I tactics options.
Follow the player: seriously! I'm switching between characters all the time, wait....wtf! why is my mage running into combat with the tank while the boss aoe is!!!

Follow other party member: Oh ok I'll just let solas follow varric....wtf! why is varric running up to the boss...oh..of course Solas is following behind...Dead

They shouldn't even be in the game if that's the case.)

Have to manually use hold position or attack by individually selecting each character is annoying. Why is there no selection box?

"In Conclusion:"
Why does dragon age inquisition controls on PC play like a 1980's asteroid game on some old mouseless Mac? I might as well unplug the mouse cause apparently I'm supposed to have a controller handy at all times, might as well use arrow keys...Stop watering crap down. I understand wanting to reach a new massive younger audience, but don't forget basic principles that people all over will come to expect.

This is BS we PC gamers can sue bioware and EA for spreading such lies about building the game for PC where we know its made to be use for controllers.

Its not even that, in this ****** video "-

The girl says that the hud and TC was made for the PC and gives us the maneuverability that we can expect, yeah ok but the really infuriating part is when she says - "the tactical camera is just what you would expect from ORIGINS", really ? really ?? flat out lie. AND THEN by near the end of the video she says again on how the showcased the game and "pressed A" really, **** you bioware.

I know this thread is mainly about what Bioware should fix, and can patch that will make the game playable.  But there are decisions they have made that have radically changed the whole concept of what an RPG was supposed to be.

Everything has to be Skyrim nowadays because it sold so well. Skyrim might be marketed as an RPG, but it is actually just a mediocre action game and hiking simulator full to the brim with boring and badly designed filler content.

Even Mass Effect 4 is going to be "Skyrimised". :rolleyes: The new ME game is going to be all about exploration, which means exploring planets with the Mako while doing boring and simplistic filler content like in DA:I or any other modern open world game.

EA doesn't care about the formula that made DA:O, ME1 and ME2 such great games. All they care about is boosting sales and believe that mutilating Bioware's franchises by copying Skyrim and alienating their fan base is the best way to achieve this.

Thanks for the insightful informations.

So yeah the sales are increased and DAI will be without a doubt a commercial success, but what will remain from this studio? All the original BW heads have already jumped out of the boat and I'm certain that ME4 will be the last nail on the coffin of BW's reputation of making quality RPGs.

You are welcome. I am glad if I have any insight to give.

I am not as certain DA3 will be, without a doubt, the commercial success it needs to be for the parent company, EA. DA2 was from day one. And halo of Origins is still present in DA3 marcomms. Launch is critical, and the PC game launch has been a disaster. I think DA3 needs Console sales to be in the hunt for DA2 sales numbers. Frankly, I am not sure that is going to happen either, and yet it may.

Here is a nice piece of self-fulfilling prophecy: would the sales boost from Console sales further convince the company that Consoles are the future? This appears to be the underlyng worry of the appeasers to Bioware: Bioware will stop making RPG games for PC. I say they already have. And no appeaser is going to change that with all the kindness in the world. It is a business decision.

This morning the NY Times and Forbes websites have both printed stories on Bioware's DA3 without mention of the coming sales backlash gathering steam on The Internet. These are the periodicals investors read. Gaming Bolt has reprinted the initial post from this thread - a press release it turns out, not even an attempt to communicate with customers but an obvious attempt to get ahead of the coming hate. (I think most of us here for the past week have recognised the post by Darrah and the subsequent, deafening Bioware silence for what it is.) The comments on Dark Side of Gaming give a more customer centered POV - and for the most part it is negative, going so far as to recommend sites like:  http://isthereanydea...mac,

Sites like Amazon and Reddit are also venting PC customer anger. Amazon rates DA3 PC at 2.9 stars and I expect that number to rise as employees of Bioware, much as they did with DA2, start leaving their own self-congratulatory reviews.

http://www.nytimes.c...lling.html?_r=0

http://www.forbes.co...eplaying-games/

http://gamingbolt.co...-support-issues

As always, time will tell the tale.

I feel the need to add my voice to the chorus here, the PC experience has some serious issues. Serious issues that should have been dealt with the moment someone tried to play the game with keyboard and mouse. It's really just mind-boggling that the devs could even let this pass with the basic usability issues, ones that could have been easily resolved. Whoever is in charge of UI though... it's just embarrassing that they created this sad excuse for a control scheme.

So I wish to post a list of issues with the Game (a few might be more universal than just focused on the PC- such as the thing that is applied to the head in the CAC that the devs had the audacity to call "hair"). This is neglecting any engine and graphical problems and bugs, of which I believe all should be in the "ASAP" area (this includes crashing, hitching, incomprehensible low framerates, non-starting, etc). This list is also numbered such that the most pressing issues are at the top of the lists, while the less so are at the bottom (though all need to be fixed, and all could be considered 'pressing').

Must Occur ASAP:

1. Ability to bind all available actions to anything (including the ones we currently cannot).
2. Ability to bind actions to mouse buttons.
3. Ability to use modifier keys (shift/alt/ctrl) in keybinds.
4. Ability to bind the missing actions in multiplayer (abilities set to F1, F2, etc).
5. Click to move/loot/attack available outside of tactical mode (as a checkbox, if you must).
6. Auto-attack available outside of tactical mode (as a checkbox).
7. Tactical camera needs to be controlled by mouse movement alone- scroll with the cursor at the edges to pan (and yes I am aware of shift panning with the mouse, it doesn't stop me from trying to do it with the cursor every time, this is how every top down/isometric game has ever played).
8. Ability to bind character movement in tactical mode to keys, such as wasd (basically, 7 and 8 make tactical mode like DAO, ffs, which was nothing great, but it was usable).
9. Tooltips (I can't believe I have to say this).
10. Ability to zoom out further in tactical mode if there is no ceiling.
11. Ability to select multiple party members at a time for command.
12. Having party members actually listen to commands given (seems like they sometimes like to ignore them).
13. No more auto centering on character in tactical mode (especially with those awful tactical mode camera controls).
14. Push to talk keybind introduced into Multiplayer. (Really... why did anyone think mics on all the time would be a good idea?)

Should Happen Very Soon:

1. Ability to bind multiplayer controls separately from singleplayer controls.
2. Loot needs to be more visible, even with the ping it takes forever to see anything (and why isn't that bound to tab by default? The ping is effectively the highlight... which you've been rolling with since BG).
3. Stealth integration into party control and play made more usable (stop unstealthing my characters because I control other characters... for instance).
4. Crazy incomprehensible aoe attacks from npcs need to be toned down, make them powerful, just stop making them nonsensical (stop proving Stephen Colbert right, if you will). **[I'm all for difficulty and love my hardmodes, but these make it really hard for melee dps to be viable at higher levels]**

Should Happen if Possible:
Note: These are a list of things that I believe may be constrained by the basic design and code and may be impossible despite hoping otherwise (such as 1 or 3) or are of less importance to the playability of the game, then say, being unable to use modifier keys (such as 2 or 4).

1. Tactical Mode moving beyond the ceiling and allowing one to zoom out more than five inches above the character's head.
2. Ability to resize and customize the hud (you make it comically gigantic [the minimap that shows nothing could be 1/5th the size and give us the same information ffs] for consoles and make the game like a low rent mmo, at least let us customize the hud like a low rent mmo).
3. Tactics need to be more comprehensive (I was never a big user of them, being a micro manager, but this would make a lot of people happy).
4. Can dual wielding rogues get two 'flames' daggers at the beginning if they have the flames of the inquisition weapons? (I mean, really, you give rogues half the gear of other classes, why?)
5. How about a color picker for hair color in the CAC? (Why am I limited to the awful plastic colors your design team picked? Has anyone at BioWare ever seen what blond hair looks like in person?)
6. Hairstyles that look like something someone somewhere in the Thedas would actually have, not some hipster BS, balding men, and the entire catalog of possible shaved heads (though I suppose you could add words and images shaved into the hair, maybe one that says "Awesome Button" or "InQZun 4 Lyfe"). Also, making them not-ugly would be a plus.
7. Hair that doesn't veer between hilariously shiny and drab straw depending on what level of model detail you have. (You know, hair that looks like hair, is kind of shiny... like hair. Have any of you at BioWare actually seen hair? This is a legitimate question, I should add.)

Pie in the Sky Dreams that BW will see reason someday and add these to their games (again):
* The ability to see what the actual line that will be said is with the blasted dialogue wheel.  (Tone icons do nothing but tell you the obvious mostly ["This line is SAD!" ffs]).
* Tactical mode camera being controllable from the minimap, like in an infinity engine game (because you never wasted time scrolling the camera in them... why does this no longer exist??).
* Ability ques.
* Combat Logs and calculations.
* Some modding capability (if only to fix the awful awful awful hair- if this hadn't been on frosbite, the awful hair texture would have already been fixed by modders, probably before the official launch).

Just can't force myself to play it, it feels like I'm an another npc who can only auto-attack in battles.

Please, do everything as it was in Knights of the Old Republic, that would be enough for me, and let people choose between different controls.

And where are all other options in Tactical Screen?
Before this part I could choose the priority to attack, target for spells, and keep distance option(I want it so bad!), a lot of things, and I could combine all this things as I wanted, for now there are only two options: attack and defend someone.

I have to say, all this changes are fine if I go multiplayer, because I don't need any tactics and I control only one character.
But there is no story behind it and it gets boring with time.

I wonder whether people are going to buy any DLC for this until UI fixed.

Seeing as they are the last few people from old bioware left that would further destroy the company. Give laidlaw his credit, the game is good underneath all the bullshit UI/control choices.

Yeah, I agree with you. If we can look past the (bad) PC optimization and streamlined system, this is one of the most entertaining game I have ever played. The conversation is sooo great. Skill design is well thought. The amount of content is ridiculously enormous (in a good way). Skyhold alone took me 2 hours to fully discover every feature. The more I play, the less complaint I want to make. I simply want to give the devs more time as my respect.

Honestly, I read all comments here and they are far more negative than the actual experience I get when I play DA:I....

Actually, BW should list what they are going to fix first, and ask our opinions about it so that they don't waste time fix unnecessary things while keeping high priority subject untouched. The list doesn't need to be exactly time-bound.

(1) Highest priority: fix important bugs and make the game playable. Oh and those who complain it is unplayable need to update drivers and redo the Keep data again first, and check DirectX11 support as well. I'm using sh!tty laptop with i7-3600M 2.1Ghz CPU and an integrated GPU and playing DA:I on HIGH, and it works fine.

(2) High prioity: PC controls and UI. Basically make everything DA:O like. I seriously mean everything, OK except skill tree design which works fine for me.

(3) Something else that people complain: hairstyles, storages, faster looting animation, better horse speed with less FX for example.

WIn people back, BW. People are paying you now.

Oh and you players should post only constructive comments. DO NOT WHINE PLEASE.

Great post, I agree with all of this.

Looking forward to some news on the fixes soon. I'm pretty much waiting to play this game when (if?) the changes come for PC controls and optimization. I'm cautiously optimistic.

It needed to be released for the holiday season.  One or two months of testing would have pushed it past the christmas sale period. many games released in these time period suffer making it a gamble when you purchase it.

Since the focus is more on consoles, the pc version will always be alt least second. It is logical business. I do not complain. i understand and would have made the same decision.

Be patient, it will be solved eventually. Consider this the final testing period in wich we all participate. An open beta.

Next time, release it as one, and give the testers that give feedback an ingame item, or extra quest until the first patch is out.

So, call me crazy but I actually persisted and played the game a little more... I'm level 15 now and I already beat 2 dragons (It was a mess ! and I'm still confused about how the kb + mouse works lol) but I have to say that Dragons are very well made... Maybe the best thing about this game !

BUT the more I play, the more I find problems that shouldn't even happen !

- Tac CAM is definitly not usable ! The view is to narrow and position reset when selecting next characrer...  Also after using it, characters tends to just stand in place and get killed...

- Already said that but WHY DO RANGED CHARACTERS STAY IN MELEE RANGE ?!

- Path finding in combat : I've so much to tell about that... It's horrible. Characters can stay blocked against a wall in a house trying to go through because main char is outside (and the door is WIDE OPEN right next to them !!!). The warrior charge is not functional. My tank (Blackwall) uses it and go through mobs and stop after is well out of the combat... STUPID ! Also, if main character engage combat while an other character is behind a solid object, often, said character stay behind runing in place... Well done !

- Where are the multiple options to assign specific actions to characters ? AI is utterly stupid in this game and waste A LOT of ressources and spells. We definity need some more options here !

- Camera : make it so we can unzoom MORE ! As it is, DA:I looks like a stupid action game, not RPG with tactical combats in mind...

You know I'm actually doing a MBA in video game management, and when I see the kind of crap BW did with DA:I, communicating about this game developped for PC etc. I can't help but laugh !

I'm not even sure the game have been tested prior to release... Also I'm thinking they truly wanted to have a real PC UI but they scrapped it cause they didn't had time or as I already said : focus changed during developement and went from being a PC GAME to be a console GAME...

without all the shame and blame. I just want what I paid for! A PC orientated RPG. I have had very little graphics problems.

I would like a map that's readable, my companions to have some sort of intelligence and a mouse that does what it has done for last 10 years.

Not too much to ask, is it?

Lets face it guys: Bioware is only going to fix the most visible bugs that appear on all platorms, and even then they'll take their sweet time. We're not going to be getting any fast modular updates or mega bug fixes. Bioware is not known for optimisation or extensive bug testing.

PC controls will remain unfixed since Bioware doesn't like people challenging its creative direction.While this is fine on social issues (like more LGBT characters and less focus on a teenage,heterosexual, white male audience), it also means that right now the BIoware devs think that even the politest complaints on this forum aren't "constructive" criticism and part of toxic fan cuture. I doubt any of the complaints are being read beyond actual bugs like the enforced voice change for the Inquisitor if you choose a custom Hawke.

Its doubtful they'll get roung to fixing performance issues and bugs on the pc. I'm not sure Bioware is the sort of studio that can spend a couple of months/weeks programming out some of the worst technocal issues. I'm not sure they want to either.

This isn't the first time we've been lied to as gamers (think of  the whole Fable series), nor is it the first bad port from a studio that had the funding, but decided that other goals were more important (before Christmas sales). I'll forgive Bioware for their lies. I hardly expect game developers to be  honest about their product anyway

There is an enjoyable game hidden under the bugs and UI issues.I've also been fortunate not to experience any major engine related bugs so that probably also skews my assessment of the game. I do sometimes have to alt tab out of a black menu screen even though this game does about 60 FPS for me on Ultra and after a couple of hours (generally 4-5) the game does sometimes crash for no reason. Its a solid 7, maybe an 8 if they can actually release some patches.

To put this in perspective I thought that Skyrim was honestly the worst game in the Elder Scrolls series (I'd get so bored and then get so sleepy playing the game) until Bethesda proved that they could make something even worse: The Elder Scrolls Online

Face the truth guys. When it comes to feedback, Bioware will do what it has always done...ignore us
