Patch this week?

Or more lies and contempt?

Also, this is an interesting change to his twitter background...

Mike Laidlaw's twitter page is also interesting.

He used to have a Dragon Age background where it said "I'M GETTING DA:I ON PC" or something like that, but he just recently removed it and has no background at the moment. I should have taken a screenshot while it was still up.

I RECOMMEND POSTING THIS ADVICE TO AMAZON AND EVERY WHERE GOOD PC GAMES ARE SOLD.

I particularly like the courtesy parts mixed with persistence. Let's not give away our own self-respect simply because we have been disrespected.

I had a similar problem in regards to getting a refund, but was eventually successful after speaking to four different "advisors" within a twelve-hour period. While there is no guarantee that the approach I took will work for other players who are having similarly extreme problems with the game, I'd like to help however I can, so here is my handy, dandy Dragon Age: Inquisition Refund Guide. Use at your own risk.

1. When speaking to an EA Games advisor, always be polite.

2. If you buy something that doesn't work in the way a company knowingly and deliberately led you to believe it would, ethically speaking, you are 100% entitled to a refund regardless of what that company's refund "policy" is. If the advisor insists otherwise, end the chat and try again with a different advisor.

3. Be polite.

4. Whether or not your case has been "escalated" to a "specialist" has absolutely no bearing on the advisors' ability to give you a refund. I know this to be a fact, because I was told this lie three times in a row, but still managed to get one. If the advisor insists otherwise, end the chat and try again with a different advisor.

5. Rude = bad. Polite = good.

6. One of the advisors I spoke to attempted to convince me that I was going to receive a refund, but the way he worded it seemed odd. When I asked how long it would take for the money to reappear on my credit card, the way that was worded was also odd. When I asked the advisor point blank if he was definitely giving me a refund, he reluctantly admitted that he wasn't. When an advisor is truly giving you a refund, they will provide you with both an invoice number and a reference number. If the advisor insists otherwise, end the chat and try again with a different advisor.

7. Don't forget to be polite.

You're not being told to do 1, 3, 5, and 7 out of respect for EA Games, Bioware, or even the advisors. The reason you should be polite at all times is because you do not want to give anyone an excuse to suspend or ban your account. For so long as you treat the advisors respectfully, they have to keep dealing with you. Close the chat window and try again in an hour or so if you think you're about to lose your temper. If you feel an overwhelming urge to punish the advisor(s) for being difficult, just remember that the mere shame of being an EA Games employee is punishment enough for nearly any sin a human being can commit. No need for revenge. The universe has already done it for you.

In closing, be the most courteous, assertive, and persistent nuisance you can be, and you will eventually get the refund you deserve, Good luck. :)

It's actually from a Nov 14th pic on his feed showing off the discs, as they had likely just arrived. Do not think it was an anti-pc statement when he posted it.

Though making it his background image now, most definitely is...

THIS show how much they are Biaised... as I said, nowhere and no one from EA / BW speaks about or to PC community. We are just the leftovers of some once great player base for developpers. MS and Sony did a good job to sap PC gaming.

When did u last see a true rpg PC UI and menus in a AAA game ? check, it's been years ;)

@dlux

If the poo hits the fan on this, and poor Christmas sales targets will do it, he will be the first let go.

He must know it. That's why the clean up, I suspect. Putting up a PS4 background will hurt his RPG cred within the industry.

Laidlaw  Darrah has no street cred to protect.. He just has a job and masters to appease.

But that won't help him either against an angry BoD.

Just one word: Fiasco. I've been some years waiting for this, and trusting BW once more after DA2. Watching previews, videos. I feel cheated. Last time, last time for sure. Next time I'll vote with my wallet.

Im holding my playthrough for some days to see if they patch the game to something at least more PC-friendly. Suggestions? as everybody with a M&K said. No need to repite all again.

Back to Divinity Original Sins and Star Citizen. (true PC developers btw). So sad BW...

Signed: A fan of the old-good-time Bioware

ps: Sorry for my english :P

@Han master (Sorry somehow I can't quote your post so i will paraphraze you):

You said Skyrim got something right?

To put it nicely, Skyrim is a steaming pile of crap. Story, combat, characters, animations are bad. I mean really bad. Think only about the Witcher 2 or Uncharted 3 which came out the same year. I know that an open world is a big challenge but come on. The game and so the DLC were (and still are) riddled with horrible sometimes quest and game breaking bugs. It's like Bethesda doesn't even know the meaning of QA.

You can do everything you want, become whateverever you want. In other terms nothing. RPG mechanisms are completely dumbed down, no class restriction, no moral alignment, nada. You can become a guild master in 30 min. Of every guild. The difficulty is incredibly unchallenging. Everything is set so the casual gamer rules the game, effortlessly, in less than 10 hours. The main and (crap ton of) fetch quests are plain boring with no consequences at all.

What did they got right? Ah, the open world: "See that mountain far over there? Well now you can climb it". Cool. In the meanwhile that whole open world doesn't give a rat's ass about you and your deeds. Dragonborn, savior of the Nords or the Empire, dragonslayer, every one is like "Yeah, whatever. Good for you". You can be Jarl of the nine Holds, walk in daedric armor, have killed 245 Dragons and there is still a nobody guard who taunts you with "Did someone stole your sweetroll?".

If it wasn't for the awesome modding community (on which obviously Bethesda counted) the only place this game belongs to would be the trash can. That if you have the PC version, if not have fun trying to mod it.

And that trash got the GOTY, set the new RPG trends and is copied by the big names of the RPG industry inclusive BioWare. Lol, in this case they can as well stop making games for PC and exclusively busy themselves with consoles. It's not a loss imo. It will always be some small studios which will release quality RPG games for PC, far away from the hype. Until they become themselves bigger studios.

Yea, I am not at my home PC otherwise I could get that from the browser cache, but that's exactly what it said, and it was up since and clearly meant to coincide with the "Built for PC" video they released over a month ago.

Also of note is the "Currently on vacation from work and Twitter"

Does this mean EA sanctioned blackouts? He's been relatively active in responding to tweets about the patching process.

This seems ominous...

The inventory screen at least, looks like it was made with consoles in mind, i.e: the list based inventory instead of grid, the different tabs in the screen to be cycled through, the full screen instead of using the PC monitor more effectively. It all screams "console".

You seem to have a good handle on things Endee  ;)

The pattern you're describing though is exactly the experience I was having, though I clearly weren't getting as far as you were in the game. there is no doubt that there are serious optimisation issues and some broken code in there. My CTD's were also without error messages - nothing just BAM gone!

I have a couple of suggestions but honestly its just a shot in the dark. You said when things were running smooth you were in Fullscreen mode. If you haven't tried that since it might be worth trying it again. Also I would suggest disabling FXAA in CP - Just to try.  :P

Tessellation off wow - I have mine at Ultra - try that too. I'll check all my settings and post them here as an edit. Just in case the code is baulking at certain switches in gfx settings. You never know... it might be that the code is broken with certain switches - hope that makes sense?  :)

[edit]

Display

  • FULLSCREEN MODE

  • Ambient Occlusion       SSAO
  • Post Process AA           Ultra
  • MSAA                           Ultra

Try copying them as is - Hope this helps in some way  ;)

Well I really appreciate your help but unfortunately those settings didn't help either. I lasted 3 minutes lol. I guess there is nothing left for me to do but wait for an official fix... if they can fix it. Thanks anyway ^^

My bad, that was due to a mistake on my end. Either way, tried your settings and I honest to the Maker don't know why but I've been playing for 30 or so minutes now. I did manage to leave the Hinterlands so that might have something to do with it. Either way, it's working for now... dunno how long it'll last but I'll enjoy it while it lasts :P

A short explanation of some of the basic PC issues by a fan...

Kind of disappointed he did not include 2 of the biggest issues I am personally concerned over:

- ability to walk forward with LMB+RMB

- remapping keys to all mouse buttons, including 3rd, 4th, and scroll

The inventory screen at least, looks like it was made with consoles in mind, i.e: the list based inventory instead of grid, the different tabs in the screen to be cycled through, the full screen instead of using the PC monitor more effectively. It all screams "console".

Watching the video, we see the dreaded console controller + computer. The alpha test started last month to good reviews (for what it was: Alpha). They want to release the game on all platforms simultaneously (Oh Oh) BUT they cannot get Sony and Microsoft to the table so they back peddle and say maybe consoles.

I am not sure the specifics but the base system looks simple. It also proports to be an RPG. And what segment of the video games industry does not believe in RPGs? Consoles is the answer, I think. What is described in terms of making choices  goes into greater depth than Bioware. I am uncertain about sex on the screen, and frankly I do not play RPGs with sex involved (unless it relates directly to my dynastic line in a long-term RPG campaign). So that's an extra from Bioware as far as RPGs is concerned. The story does not have combat magic - so it had better be a damn good story, right? It will lack most of what Bioware is touting with Inquisition: flashy combat and sex. It will focus on story. The world graphics are very, very good. People need more work in the Alpha build.

And, at this time, it is being made for PC because no console wants it.  Ironic. Warhorse has to settle for a traditional Bioware-like RPG game because it cannot sell its game to console publishers..... whereas Bioware....can, does and did.

And we are all thrilled to itty bitty bits about that.

The combat in Alpha build does not seem to have the issues of DA3. Reports from PC users are good.

A poster I responded to a page or so back mentioned a chart showing Console and PC game players as part of the video game market. The idea was there were more PC players than console players. I would like to see that chart. If true, this DA3 fiasco does not bode well for Bioware division.

This is nothing like Dragon Age, and seems very tedious. Food going bad in your inventory for too long? Please.

Not the answer :)

Let's just get some of the fixes we need for DA:I and stay away from "realistic" Fantasy RPGs ^_^

I may be wrong but I've always thought that the RPG genre had more PC Players than consoles? When did the tide turned?

Is it possible to pick multiple loots at once? In DAO and DA2 you can go to tactical camera, assign each party members to loot things, and all items will be gained at once. Is it still possible to do it this way? I've been trying but it doesn't work. I honestly think it's good to have this mechanic. Elfroot and blood lotus tend to group together, and its frustrating to have to pick them one by one. The party members are just standing around not helping.

...the asnswer is, when BIOWARE started to play EA's cards.

im old gamer, i was playing kotor, baldure's gate etc. and that were great games. now all i see that Bioware has nothing to say, and as we already know, what EA toaches their "golden hand", turns into rotten tomato. DAO was great, maybe graphic could be better, but game had great story, mechanics and mod support in case that developers forgot about something.

now we have painfuly easy game, with shallow story, bad mechanics and minimalism everywhere. i wish this game had bad graphis bad better everything else.

to be honest, Devs are making games, and deliver them as a fully product, that mean 100% functional game(lets be honest, we will finde bugs anyway, but not so many) and if they promise something, i expect to see it in game, if they cant keep promise, i want to know why.

right now i feel like they said what we wanted to hear, and not even half of promised content appears in game. that what i call lying. and if Developers says that they going to fix something, its their duty, as they didnt deliver a proper 100% functional game. im not sure if this is Devs fault or EA or someone else, but someone just screwed everything.

in any case if someone asks why would ppl download pirate version, this is an asnwer, as this is a good way to check if game is ok or not. and it is not. i just want to know where are things that Devs implemented while listening to community. because i see more cuts than in DA2.

anyway Mr Mark Darrah, you, and your colleagues should be ashamed, as this is not Bioware that used to creat greatest RPG games, you are nowhere now. and i really dont get it, why you didnt do anything to fix it as im not first one who is saying that.

so why Biowere started to be just a shade?...

Yep, Kingdom Come has a consolized UI.

I had checked out the Kickstarter but instantly lost interest in the game when I read this: We’re mixing the freedom and mechanics of Skyrim [...]

They are Skyrim fans, so it really isn't surprising that the game has a consolized UI.

Yup, this is the "conundrum" I mentioned a few days ago.  Sure it may seem to have some of the core principals you'd expect in a pc title, but the realistic expectations of how good it can be have a definite ceiling that's dictated solely by budget.

Assuming they are not heartless cretins, they usually give the public an alternative for information and support, especially if they were involved in responding to and helping with issues up until 1 day prior.
