Well, yes, desert is different from a snowy mountain area but you do exactly the same thing in both:

Collect shards, click on lyrium deposits, click on banner places, solve the nothingtodowiththelore astariums, collect x **** quests, kil x **** quests, go to campsites, go to location, collect bottles, close rifts, collect mosaics, kill a dragon or two.

Environment looks cool but this is as far as complexity goes in this game. I hope Mass Effect 4 will be super good even if there is no bioware anymore, just a division of EA making it. At least Laidlaw and Darrah has nothing to do with ME. Yet. Not going to buy anything until careful reading through forums and user submitted reviews after this deceiving bullshit from... EA.

The game is far from perfect, but there's a hell of a lot more to it than that.

I am not a Dev and also have hundreds of hours of acceptable combat including Tac-Cam. Also believe the pacing of combat has improved, at least for some weapons. Bows and 2H seem good for me, would prefer less speed on staves and S&S but with greater punch to maintain DPS, and DW are still largely unknown to me as these have been handled by NPC's and AI. Overall it is not as mired as DAO, and is slower paced than the animations seen in DA2. Best effort on combat speed thus far, IMO.

However, I would prefer to see weapon restrictions lifted, as well as the ability to switch in combat make a return. This would aid Player designs; like as many options for the builds as we currently have for crafting and customizations.

Which translates to: "Origins wasn't perfect for me and if I was a developer I would have tried to improve over it too."

But what about people who have absolutely nothing against Origins? That is my point. These are the people the developers forgot. The people who absolutely loved the game.

just popped into the mp forum and the dev stopped interacting with them aswell and many people are leaving mp or uninstalling the game

congratulation bioware you managed to dissatisfy your SP and MP consumers

i guess taking too long to release 2 1/2  patches that doesn't fix much and not communication with your paetrons tend to rub people the wrong way

I love DAO; have at least 20 campaigns and still have not used every party combo for dialogue paths. Then I played DA2 (about six sessions), and though it had differed from the original, there were changes I preferred such as combat speed, new tiers, Full VO, and some more. Now with DAI, I believe we are getting close to having the best from all; have no desire to return to mired 2H defaults.

But I did not notice these improvements until I used them in later games; my precognitive abilities are still restricted.

Almost 500+ pages, I guess it´s time to concern ourselfs with a concern-party.

ding ding ding. we have a winner.

see? this is the problem right here. The combat speed of DA2 was one of the biggest problems with that game. It wasn't an "improvement" in any way whatsoever except to the console kiddies. DAI continues along this awful path of turning Dragon Age into a dumbed down Diablo 2. The complaint here is that DA isn't about fast combat and spamming abilities. DA is supposed to be about tactical combat and DAI has removed that almost entirely in favor of console button mashing. That may have been the game you signed up for, but for actual Origin fans, we have been betrayed.

Mhm...this reminds me of...cupcakes. We should send a few hundred kilos of concern-cupcakes over to Bioware, remind them of old times.

Yo do have a point, but I think this is a different matter than what is being discussed in this thread.

I completely agree with you in that, beyond the tactical camera control and UI issues, the game was designed for a fast-paced and very streamlined combat, and the ability trees show that. I was particularly disappointed at the mage tree. I think it is hard to compare the mage tree in Inquisition with the mage tree in Origins and not break in tears. Three of the mage trees in Inquisition are essentially the same, that is damage-oriented flashy effects. Hexes, buffs, shapeshifting, summoning... they are all underrepresented, if represented at all.

But this is something that I don't expect to be "fixed", because it's not really broken. It's just how the game was designed. Personally, I don't like it, but I'm not going to complain too much either. I'll just take note of the direction Bioware is taking with their games and move on. If they don't give me what I want, I will get it somewhere else. No biggie.

The controls are a different issue though. Those are broken, and I expect them to be fixed. As you said, no tweaking of the tactical camera and controls will fix the fact that the game was not designed with this kind of gameplay in mind. But it would certainly make things a whole lot more appealing to me.

That is pretty much what i realize, nothing is going to change on combat mechanics and im okay with it because its the way.

Other things like prohibiting far zoom for nothing could literally be changed with a variable, that is what cheatengine does.

People could complain "wow but zooming too far craps my performance" or "zooming too far makes does some wierd behaviour".. well then dont zoom out! Its like they need to do by the lowest denominator, capping everything, while there is a lot of much more broken things.

If you by the way used the infinite zoom hack you will see that there isnt really broken on game engine that make it unusable. Even if you go to a low celling are the camera zoom adjusts accordingly. I dont get the reason to force a so narrow zoom. The camera tilting on tac camera change, well, it seen linked to the zooming behaviour. When you use a area spell the game pauses like a tactical mode, but dont tilt camera. That looks okay, i dont get why only when changing on an back to tactical it needs to tilt.

If you look back at previous posts to get context, I also thought DA2 was too fast; prefer where DAI is currently with some exceptions. And I cannot play on consoles; gave up after Diablo 1, and have played well in DAI with Pause and Tac-Cam with a basic KB&M.

DA Origins is a game that pays homage to old crpgs like baldur's gate, neverwinter nights, planetscape torment, and icewinds dale and with each sequel it is becaming less like that, now it just another fantasy action button mashing, spamming abilites game with mmo fetch quests, all the tactics from origin have been stripped down to when to drink a healing potion, and which enemy to attack automatically

And yet there are others here that believe DAI is the game paying homage to these older titles, though not myself. I still have not played them except for NWN1 (my fave cRPG of all due to mods and m/p), though I have copies. Simply did not get around to them, and prefer modern graphics and mechanics.

and yet you referred to it as an improvement. That means you found DAO combat to be too slow. It was faster than Neverwinter Nights though The console kiddies would fall asleep playing that one now. DA (the spiritual sequel to NVN) is about planning, tactics, taking your time. The very fact that you think DA2 was an improvement re: combat kinda negates whatever else you might think in the minds of actual RPGers.

Ladies and gentlemans i did it! I cracked a secret code! It just magically *clicked* in my mind!

I figured out how to PLAY THIS GAME!!!

Idea was very simple but it transformed into in-deep analysis of what the hell to do with subject presented: uselessness of mouse and tactic mode.

This is probably what people who enjoyed this aspect of game were doing.

To make it short: just play with camera on the ground like in 1st person view. This way you have autoattack without holding anything and you can actually make use of mouse. Just NEVER put camera angle from the ground and it will be fine.

Issues encountered so far: can't summon orange circle of spamming VVVV all game, autoattack is somehow weird, my 2H warrior gives enemy 1 blow and is scared, but then starts again and if enemy is not moving does full combo.

Pro tip: click F1 a lot to center camera. And just try it yourself. This is so brilliant. Improves gameplay in about 1000%. Of course don't even try pausing as this game does not deliver any challange micromanagement worthy.

And makes combat actual MMO not only wannabe1.

No one is making that claim, and if they did, they are clearly an idiot (or have never actually played NVN or BG)

I personally do not really care for the action oriented combat at all. I liked how NWN 2 and BG1/2 handled it. I know they stopped using D&D ruleset but couldn't they have implemented a GURPS type system for this?  I loved Wasteland 2 because of how things were handled in that. I found combat to be more engaging as a pseudo turn based versus this mindless hack/slash mentality copied from Skyrim or something equivalent.

and yet again we see the problem here. These older titles are what DAI is built on. They set up the standards that a game like DAI is supposed to follow. Basic things like mouseclick-to-move. Assigning your own stat points when you level up. Giving commands to your companions while paused in combat. You've never played these so you don't know what a Dragon Age game is expected to be like by those of us who play RPGs. You like the faster action combat. And that's fine for you. But the rest of us it's not what we signed up for. nor is it what we were sold. You love the game. great. But you telling us that it is fine as it is is like complaining that the Godfather sucks because it isn't funny enough. because you want gangster movies that are more self-aware and not so serious. You like a dumbed-down game. We don't. I want the smart Dragon Age back, but so long as the button mashing console kiddies rule who think that DAO combat was too slow, that won't happen.

As are we.  Expectations are not met, and as such, we are understandably upset.  I want to play a freakin' PC game on the PC, not a watered down console version.  I want PC style controls on the PC.  I shouldn't need to buy a special controller, just to make the durned thing function.

I was one of those unable to play on kb/m when the game was released, had to plug in a controller

I'm playing again, decided to change back to kb/m and the game feels a lot better.

you can do hack/slash with tactics like the witcher, where if you just mindlessly spam the attack button you will get your sh*t fucked up, in dai the own battles that require some tactics are the dragon fights

yes, button mash+geralt = dead. Plan ahead for potions/oils, change your equipped signs to match your opponent's resistance/protect yourself.

Yes it is different, it's nothing like old RPGs. Everyone knows that and complaining about it is gonna make the devs remake the game for you. I don't see the point in complaining about this.

Some people here have genuine problems with running the game, while others seem to just want to whine for the sake of whining just because they didn't get what they want.

it's not that I didn't get what I wanted. It's that I didn't get what I was sold: A PC game made by PC Gamers (the PC Games who made BG, NVN and DAO BTW). I'd have been perfectly fine skipping this game entirely as I have with hundreds of other console ports but I was lied to. Now I am "complaining" about getting what I was already promised from the beginning but haven't been given yet.

The DAO animations for the default 2H swings are too slow; prefer the speed of the Sunder abilities. And now in DAI, this is close to being achieved. The feel of combat is visceral and more immersive, IMO.

And while it has been a few months, I still play NWN1 on a PW. Careful on making assumptions....

from the pc game by pc gamers, i was expecting a quality pc game, instead its just another console port pretending to be a pc game, and it doesn't even try to hide that its a console port

plus it a game that is riding on the coattails of dragon age origins while at the same time is trying to mimic skyrim.

without the dragon age title it would just be another medicore open world hack/slash action/pseudo rpg game trying to be like skyrim
