it's not that I didn't get what I wanted. It's that I didn't get what I was sold: A PC game made by PC Gamers (the PC Games who made BG, NVN and DAO BTW). I'd have been perfectly fine skipping this game entirely as I have with hundreds of other console ports but I was lied to. Now I am "complaining" about getting what I was already promised from the beginning but haven't been given yet.

They didn't promise to give you BG, the whole PC game by PC Gamers ridiculousness was about the controls. Yes it was bullshit and I totally support people complaining about that, hell, I was here doing the same (I still can't get over how they forgot the walk toggle button), but what I'm seeing now is people whining because they didn't get their old school RPG. It was obvious from the trailers alone that the game was nothing AT ALL like BG, NWN and Origins.

Actually no, I'm complaining about the shoddy controls, shoddy AI, and shoddy tactics/tac cam.

And what's wrong with wanting to level your character by stats? That was always the best part of builds for me, not choosing the perfect hairstyle.

and yet again we see the problem here. These older titles are what DAI is built on. They set up the standards that a game like DAI is supposed to follow. Basic things like mouseclick-to-move. Assigning your own stat points when you level up. Giving commands to your companions while paused in combat. You've never played these so you don't know what a Dragon Age game is expected to be like by those of us who play RPGs. You like the faster action combat. And that's fine for you. But the rest of us it's not what we signed up for. nor is it what we were sold. You love the game. great. But you telling us that it is fine as it is is like complaining that the Godfather sucks because it isn't funny enough. because you want gangster movies that are more self-aware and not so serious. You like a dumbed-down game. We don't. I want the smart Dragon Age back, but so long as the button mashing console kiddies rule who think that DAO combat was too slow, that won't happen.

And again, more assumption....

I prefer Point & Click, player Attribute distribution, fewer weapon restrictions, and other things. But DAI does allow for commands while in Pause, and the Tac-Cam works fine for me, though it is different than in the previous games.

And I dislike the Godfather because it was boring; my friend fell asleep.

my only complaint here has ever been about the controls & UI. I want actual m+kb controls. but part of controls/UI is admitting that DAI is a console port and a bad one at that. Having only 8 slots is a limitation because of consoles. It's not something dictated by that game. In fact, the game works against that limitation. Not getting to assign stat points is because it is too difficult on consoles. Tac cam was only available on PC in Origins. There is clearly something about that makes it difficult to implement on consoles. So in DA2 they just said "Frak PCs" and took it out entirely. "hey, the console kiddies don't need it, why should you?"

These are worth complaining about because when the company that made Neverwinter Nights, Baldurs Gate and Dragon Age Origins tells me they are giving me an RPG PC game in the Dragon Age universe, these things are expected. A bad console port is not.

The game is far from perfect, but there's a hell of a lot more to it than that.

There is this nonsense ive read in this forum somewhere: The game is what you make of it. There is that but in reality game consists of what i listed.

Trolling:

Wondering why you have 8 spells on your action bar? Because thats what a controller can handle. I actually wonder why they didnt make you bind a key to toggle between two 4 button action bar. Now that would be the real undeniably console port ****. Not that the current implementation is not deniable tough. Btw read through the youtube comments how happy people are that bioware made this for PC gamers.

Still up for evaluation. But I am a tad older, and have been playing RPG's since '75. Still does not make me a fan of that movie seen in the theater.

As for controls, I utilize a basic KB&M; re-mapped the Keys, and practiced with the Tac-Cam until I became comfortable. While the AI is not as healthy as previous titles, it still works with my chosen settings. As I am Techless, I do not utilize 3rd party fixes; only using the Options given in game.

so, Godfather in the theater: 1972. R rated, so either your parents took you (unlikely as parents didn't really do that back then and theaters were quite particular about enforcing ratings) or you were ate least 18. so born 1954 (perhaps as late as 58 with really liberal parents). So that puts you at around 61 (or late 50s).

RPGs in 75 means probably Chainmail or more likely 1st edition Dungeons & Dragons, so you should know all about turn-based combat.

It should probably mean something to you, that based on your interactions here and maturity level, I pegged you as a teenager. And not in a good way. (I doubt it will though)

What was your point again anyway? other than to come across as passive/agressively smug?

You are partially correct; am 57, and saw that flic in a college theater when old enough to watch it. And Chainmail and my D&D originals are packed away, though I only played the latter.

But as I have informed others, pls feel free to move me to your Ignore lists; will reciprocate.

just popped into the mp forum and the dev stopped interacting with them aswell and many people are leaving mp or uninstalling the game

congratulation bioware you managed to dissatisfy your SP and MP consumers

i guess taking too long to release 2 1/2  patches that doesn't fix much and not communication with your paetrons tend to rub people the wrong way

Their console "consumers" are none too happy with them now either ...

Almost 500+ pages, I guess it´s time to concern ourselfs with a concern-party.

There will be concern and cake.

Concern is a lie.

There's been one patch and a few hotfixes. I'll wait until the next actual patch, because that will reveal whether or not the developers are in fact listening to our concerns and doing something about them - or just listening and deciding it goes against their artistic vision to deliver a PC game.

so... i have localised version of DA:I. i hate the translation (IB spec is in female form, Hawke is a bearded female and so on, it's nightmare), i understand English quite well but not enough to play w/o subtitles (damn orlesians)... so i used the english sub fix some kind soul posted on those very forums.

my point: every new patch breaks the game for me. i'm even afraid of hotfixes.

why english subs are not included in every language version? why?

No english subs in every version? O.o. that's just plain out weird.

While not being anglo born im pratically fluent, but those accents are really horrible.

As a side note, running with Sound blaster Z makes the voices of conversations horrible distant and low, unless its the kind of main conversation. The positional audio on this game is horrible.

Baldur's Gate is great, and if you like it you should give Baldur's Gate II a try afterwards, it's better in almost every way in my opinion. Easily one of the the RPG's ever made B)

Edited: And both of them have proper PC controls. (move camera with mouse on screen edge, good overview of inventory etc.)

The game keeps crashing my computer as soon as the cut scene starts at the beginning (after the war table) of  "In Hushed Whispers." Anyone else having this problem?

Yea, it was by your customers who were under the impression that Bioware still employed designers who could use anything other than this...

We're stuck with it. Sad, really. "Ease of use" means a controller.

BG2 is a brilliant game, but AD&D can be a difficult system to learn at first, and the game itself has a steep learning curve.  Stick with it though because it's great.

That image genuinely makes me go up in flames. STUPID DESIGN. That right hand analogue stick and tiny--albeit powerful--thumbs!! (with apologies to tiny powerful fists in Scrubs). Even if I gave in and used that, my hands would still be in a world of "screw this noise" pain.

To calm down, I shall watch this. There's Baker-Miller pink and I can call it a tribute to the "500 page" concern cake and wrestling... with the controls. :D
