Er, I have the DA:O: Awakening physical copy CD in my drive, and Origin running.

To test, in case something has changed since I played the game 3 days ago... Pressed the wee button on my lower toolbar.... yep, there it goes. No problems at all, no need to download a digital copy. Shut off Origin, Awakening still working. Well, hai there, currently played Warden girl and... Anders.

Oh, Anders. Back before you were.... never mind. /sadface. Oh, well.

So, I'm not sure what happened there for you? Did you have your physical copy registered with your Origin account? Maybe that was the issue.

I despise EA, sure, but I won't say they're doing things they ain't. ;)

You know, EA bought Bioware in 2007 and DA:O was out in 2009.  The Origins client did not exist then.

I agree with you that the only DA:O DRM was a CD check.  So, I'm not sure what Rizilliant is talking about.

Well, no rig envy, or wallet envy from me but then...

i7 4790 4.0 gHz

16 GB RAM

Dual Nvidia Titans

Soundblaster Titanium

MSI x99S mobo

dual 2 TB WD HD

dual 256 GB SSD drives

27 in 1080p Sony monitor

4 fans, liquid cooled extra large tower.

(Okay I built ****** for other tasks besides just gaming but, gaming was part of the reason for this beast.)

My disk copy of DAO + Awakenings works fine without launching Origin. Only reason I can see you would need to get the digital download version is if the disk, or files are damaged and , it needs to repair them or, bypass the disk.

About the digital copy.

I can download for free DA:O via the Origins client. This version will definitely require Origins for DRM checking and launching of the game. The original CD version does not.  Prior to DAI, I installed the game via my physical copy and had no problems launching the game without Origins.

The engine has major issues on some hardware and in general the game is poorly optimized.

I'm running a AMD FX eight core at 4.5 ghz, 16gigs of ddr 3, two super clocked 760's and 850 ssd pro. I have had issues since day one.

No. First sp DLC will be a timed exclusive on Xbone for 1 month. I think after that they will all be released at the same time.

Holy friggin' hell.  They must really think it's that their DLC is going to be amazingly arse-clenchingly fan-fecking-errificly good that they can afford to flog it to the Xbox and then expect anyone else to buy it a month later - especially in the age of YouTube.

What outright arrogant and dismissive disdain they have for us.  Downloadable contempt for $15.99.  This 'game' won't even run without falling over from the damn vapours at the first naughty word, is jerked and jagged and juggernautingly bad on so many levels and they actually expect PC players will be willing after all this to sit thirty whole days just to get Xbone's badly-ported and glitchy sloppy seconds?

I'd call it unbelievable, but given the last going-on-four months of "yeah, shut up, whenever", I'm not remotely surprised.

I think it's official.  Either we're all delusional or they are.

Yes, the point is, even on seriously overpowered rigs, the game has issues. I don't have the DX crash so many Nvidia users have but, most don't have a Titan, the 60 and 70 series GPUs both seem to have that issue. I have clipping with all armors on a Qunari, Elf arms are strange, Spirit blade randomly decides if it will look like a solid blade or a semi formed line of particles/mist. Hold command fails miserably unless you use tac cam, which also fails with lack of adjust-ability of the view.

Have to use mods to get rid of the horrible pajamas in Skyhold. Some warrior armors do not show on a Qunari inquisitor, quest markers get stuck on the map when there is no quest there. Can't get one of the mosaic pieces in the Hinterlands.

Nothing game breaking but, enough annoyances that I know the game could easily have far worse issues on lesser computers.

its weird, I didn't crash once yesterday while playing the single player and I left my comp on for a while just sitting there with it on. probably played, while I went afk, for like 8 or 9 hours straight. This is with my 980 overclocked to 1500mhz core and 4000mhz memory.

Multiplayer crashes a lot more though. Maybe it has something to do with when you switch between single player and multiplayer or something. No idea tbh, just throwing that out there.

Ok, are you guys trolling with your specs? Cause if you with your beasts (32 gb ram, 2 R9 says one, Dual Nvidia Titans, an I7 73623123981238123981 says the other, and so on till my eyes hurts) whats left to the rest of us mortals with our wood specs? Cry evry time, dear, cry evry time.

Yet, look at this game, we all point our fingers to him, we crucify him, we all say is a bastard and a fake prophet, yet, he loves us all, he forgive us, treats everyone equally: runs like **** no matter what specs you have.

Yes, but I believe it's the Nvidia thing.

The three AMD platforms (PS4, XB1 and PC)  with at least 8gb of ram have very few issues running the game. The consoles come with 8GB and most PCs today have 8+GB of RAM.  An AMD PC rig with 4GB will have performance issues of some sort. This assumes all software/drivers are up to date.

Many PC rigs with Nvidia graphic cards have the most performance problems. QA priorities (my view) was to make sure Bioware received console certification. Thus, AMD console platform testing was given priority and was a collateral help for AMD PC rigs.

Based on this view, Nvidia was left out in the cold ( Bond movie hint) :huh:

Certainly not trolling with my posted specs, thing is my rig runs Star Citizens Arena Commander on the highest setting just fine and never drops below 60FPS even though its not even in a Alpha state and does not even have Mantle support implemented.Yet DAI is supposed to be a AAA game in release state and supposed to have Mantle support yet trying to get it to maintain 60FPS is a nightmare its will even tank to 8FPS on the damn loading screen which shows how incompetent Bioware is !

I have had similar issues and I'm running 32GB of 2400mhz Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM along with a i5 4670K CPU overclocked to 4.4Ghz and 2 R9 290 GPU's and even then I'm lucky if I get 45FPS on Highest settings using Outcome to force Origin offline and disable the client fron running has reduced the CTD's though they still happen.It seems the game is badly coded and poorly optimized like most of Ubisoft's PC ports are.

By Highest do you mean the ULTRA settings?

Have you tried:

AmbientOcclusion = OFF

AA = OFF

MeshQuality = HIGH

TextureQuality = HIGH

TerrainQuality = HIGH.... then to Medium if necessary.

Believe me when I say that the visual difference between High and Ultra is minimal and the game runs better without AmbientOcclusion and AntiAliasResampling.

I know you have a super rig, yet even my lowly system ran the game fine. My FPS were in the 40s with some variances into the low 30s.

PS: Also disable Windows Auto Update.

That's exactly what I can't understand. This is a quality assurance issue that was never addressed. Either they tested it briefly without any depth or just said, "Screw it. We're under EA. Sell it, "as is." Either way, I feel cheated. Any stupid fanboy that trolls this is either a dupe or just a jerk. I bought this game knowing it might have some issues and bugs, but this isn't even close to being polished. PATCH 2 = walk toggle. REALLY? REALLY?!?

You know what? I am down with the 30-day delay. Because Youtube and other gaming sites (the ones that aren't full of fluff or pandering to developers) will reveal what fixes are going to be needed. I'm still not buying anything until we get an apology (which will never come) or until it's in the bargain bin. I don't want to play Witcher or any other game. I just want this game, with all it's crappy design flaws and all the good stuff watered down to make the console market happy, to work. That's all. GOTY. BIG F-U to those critics that didn't test this on PCs.

Wow. You did what the developers couldn't.... communicate on how to fix it. My FPS is up above 40 again in the Hinterlands and I don't see the difference where it was before on High. Well done Sartoz!

Our point is that even with specs far exceeding the recommended, the game has issues.

Alas, my friend, the recommended specs does not say you can run the game with ULTRA settings without issues. After, all, we are talking about Marketing the game.  Bioware, I believe, accidently failed on purpose to leave out a few things with the specs.

One of my Tweaks is to lower the Dispatching priority of Origins below that of DAI. The effect is to reduce the chance of Origins getting control of the CPU .

Anyway you can throw together a quick and dirty guide on how to change the d.p.? A lot of people would probably find it extremely useful. My self included. lol

Totally agree with @Sartoz about the AMD-Consoles trick. More and more looks like the primary target of EA (I don´t think Bioware, but they do what EA says at some point) was making a nice functional game on Next gen consoles, knowing how good games are selling there. Then yeah, release it on PC, but, you know, "you pirates will learn a lesson."

I believe EXCLUSIVES is part of contractual obligations that Microsoft and Sony impose on console developers.  Basically, it"s "if you want to develop a game on my console, these are the terms.... sign on the dotted line."

With EA allowing Bioware to write a DLC, it automatically goes to the XB1 first....

Hm.. I wonder what would happen if both Sony and Microsoft wanted the same IP exclusive?

Again, sure I could lower the graphics settings and get better FPS BUT, on a high end rig, I should at least be able to maintain 50-60 FPS continuously and, that is not the case. On my rig it should NEVER drop below 50 (60 really but I'm being generous) for any reason but, it does, not often, but convos in busy areas do cause a significant drop (not cutscenes, that is another issue.) just conversations. Depending on the area it's 20-40 FPS and, that should not be the case.

Anyway you can throw together a quick and dirty guide on how to change the d.p.? A lot of people would probably find it extremely useful. My self included. lol

LOL !!

Windows 7

1. Start the Task manager via CTRL+ALT+DEL

2. Select the Processes tab

3. Look for the Origins client

4. Right click on the Origins process

5. The new pop-up window gives you some options. Click on Set Priority

6. A new pop-up window appears. Select Below Normal

The effect is this:

The Distpacher will look at any task/process that is ready to receive CPU control starting with the highest priority task in the DRQ (Dispatcher Ready Queue). So, even though the Origins client is ready, any higher priority task will receive CPU control first.... Origins will just have to wait until the queue list above it is empty.

For example:

If you right click on csrss.exe, then hover the mouse on Set Priority, you will see that it is set to HIGH. Same with the taskmgr.exe On the other hand, the process explorer.exe is set to normal.

Ask if you need more help.

PS: Don't fool around with tasks/processes you don't know anything about.
