LOL !!

Windows 7

1. Start the Task manager via CTRL+ALT+DEL

2. Select the Processes tab

3. Look for the Origins client

4. Right click on the Origins process

5. The new pop-up window gives you some options. Click on Set Priority

6. A new pop-up window appears. Select Below Normal

The effect is this:

The Distpacher will look at any task/process that is ready to receive CPU control starting with the highest priority task in the DRQ (Dispatcher Ready Queue). So, even though the Origins client is ready, any higher priority task will receive CPU control first.... Origins will just have to wait until the queue list above it is empty.

For example:

If you right click on csrss.exe, then hover the mouse on Set Priority, you will see that it is set to HIGH. Same with the taskmgr.exe On the other hand, the process explorer.exe is set to normal.

Ask if you need more help.

PS: Don't fool around with tasks/processes you don't know anything about.

Thank you.

Holy crap. Sartoz and DarkAmaranth1966... Y'all kick butt. Y'all got it going again. Banter is there as well. And guess what? I have the forums running the background with no issues. I'm flipping back and forth between the forums and Inquisiton. No CTDs and even better... no drop in FPS.

Again, sure I could lower the graphics settings and get better FPS BUT, on a high end rig, I should at least be able to maintain 50-60 FPS continuously and, that is not the case. On my rig it should NEVER drop below 50 (60 really but I'm being generous) for any reason but, it does, not often, but convos in busy areas do cause a significant drop (not cutscenes, that is another issue.) just conversations. Depending on the area it's 20-40 FPS and, that should not be the case.

I agree with you, if the game comes with  a properly optimized engine and game code. However, it's not. So, adjustments become  necessary to achieve stable gameplay with certain visuals. Not the answer you wanted....

As I undertand it, the engine is constantly attempting to render the meshes far ahead of what is really needed.

For example:

If you set the Terrain quality to low and then just walk around in the Hinterlands, you will notice, not far ahead, that rocks or grass turf pops up. Setting the Terrain quality to Medium and you repeat the walk, you will notice that the terrain quality (ie: details) is better and is rendered further ahead of you. Rinse and repeat for HIGH... etc.

On ULTRA it tries to render high detail terrain way too far ahead.... and since it creates a rendering perimiter with you at the centre, the perimeter is constantly filled as you move along. Plus, of course, more graphics memory is used to hold the meshes... sort like bursting at the seams...

In my view, Bioware made a mistake releasing the game with the ULTRA options for the PC.

Thanks Sartoz. Don't use the task manger that much, outside of killing crashed programs. I just wanted to make sure I was doing it right before I screwed around with it. Given how easy it is to screw something up. lol

Nope. It's a nod to the Phantasm series, my love for batshit crazy horror movies and a nod to the actor Angus Scrimm(pic below)

Banter is back?

Hm.. looks as if there is a Mesh task and a seperate Banter task running with the Mesh having priority. Reducing the Mesh task workload will allow for sub-processes to get a crack at the CPU....

What changes did you do?

Well, no rig envy, or wallet envy from me but then...

i7 4790 4.0 gHz

16 GB RAM

Dual Nvidia Titans

Soundblaster Titanium

MSI x99S mobo

dual 2 TB WD HD

dual 256 GB SSD drives

27 in 1080p Sony monitor

4 fans, liquid cooled extra large tower.

(Okay I built ****** for other tasks besides just gaming but, gaming was part of the reason for this beast.)

My disk copy of DAO + Awakenings works fine without launching Origin. Only reason I can see you would need to get the digital download version is if the disk, or files are damaged and , it needs to repair them or, bypass the disk.

I built a very similar money incinerator  :)  I love it and it loves me by smashing every game I throw at it, Every game that it coded correctly of coarse.

ROG Maximus V Formula
i7 3770K @ 4.6 Ghz
SLI EVGA Superclocked Titan Blacks @1250Mhz
32Gb Patriot Black Mamba & Venom Red 2133Mhz CL 10
Three 512 GB Adata XPG SX900 SSD
1200W Seasonic Platinum Series
60" Samsung LED TV @ 120hrtz One 22 Inch Asus IPS Panel @120hrts for frame and temp monitoring :) and Eve Onine tutorial videos :)

Many other $$ bells n whistles to effectively triple the initial budget

Yet Still DA:Inquisition tried to tell me via in game fps counter its running at 60fps. It even tricks EVGA PRECISION ( view via 2nd scrreen, no overlays cuz that'll break the damn game too lol GOTY ) to say its running @ 60fps  yet when you move camera its clearly not, Fps counter never drops but frames do!  I may be crazy enough to spend a fortune on a ridiculous gaming rig but I know when frames are dropping even the slightest, bigger the screen the easier it it to tell.

Even I ACTUALLY  had to use that fps cut scene launch param trick to get  THE GAME to actually truly run at 60fps - Cutscenes at 30fps was bothersome but no where near as bothersome as the ACTUAL game saying its running at 60fps - which was very true if you didn't move but the instant ya did, frames would drop to 50-55fps  then stabilize back up to 60fps again in a matter of a second or two. Of coarse until you turned around or panned the camera again, then the cycle repeats  -

Yet EA/BW don't recommend you use that cut scene trick that does indeed fix this insane issue but it introduces a few others like the inability to un toggle walk lol GOTY!!! . EA/BW knows it causes other problems because THEY made the game solely for consoles that can only do 30fps , So above that was never thoroughly tested!

Long story short  Even on a RIG like this I still had to tweak the game to make it work at a simple 60fps!

ONLY @1080p@60fps.

This is on top of all the other MAJOR SLI issue's like texture flicker and Blinding White Fog.

GOTY???????????

UNBELIEVABLE!

I basically followed your last post as far as graphic settings. Lowered Origin priority. Shut down all other stuff like Windows Update. PRAYED. Started a thread that has attracted a lot of fanboys and voila! I'm off to Val Royeaux.

That thread is more entertaining than my second playthrough, but hey...

@Sartoz  I think you are correct about what the game engine is trying to do.  This might have helped them.  Occlusion culling increases rendering performance simply by not rendering geometry that is outside the view frustum or hidden by objects closer to the camera.

By Highest do you mean the ULTRA settings?

Have you tried:

AmbientOcclusion = OFF

AA = OFF

MeshQuality = HIGH

TextureQuality = HIGH

TerrainQuality = HIGH.... then to Medium if necessary.

Believe me when I say that the visual difference between High and Ultra is minimal and the game runs better without AmbientOcclusion and AntiAliasResampling.

I know you have a super rig, yet even my lowly system ran the game fine. My FPS were in the 40s with some variances into the low 30s.

PS: Also disable Windows Auto Update.

tried all of that made no difference to performance though tbh with my rig I shouldn't have to turn it down at all

That one is going to take a joint effort between GPU manufactures and EA/Bioware so, I wouldn't expect it any time soon. Save often and hope it's minimal (once or twice a day) for you is all we can do right now.

Does the "Go to Val Royeaux via war table" blood ritual works? That fixed banter problems after Patch 2. Now i don´t really know.

The NPCs are soft-spoken again at Vivienne's place and the assassin guy for Sera's quest caused a CTD.

I think alt-tabbing is causing problems. It was fine, but I kept alt-tabbing back to the forums to post. I restarted the computer and I'm going to finish recruiting Sera and then not come back here until I've had some significant time at another map.

Well... crap. I have to completely restart and reboot to get the game going again. I'm CTD at cutscenes again. This time with the noble Vivienne ices. Spamming F5.

The frustration of trying to play overcame my desire to play many months ago.  That, plus the control scheme+the constant CTD kinda removed my desire to play this steaming pile of horse, moose, elephant, and antelope tookey.  I keep checking to see if BozoWare has fixed it, but at this point, I have sort of given up on that, I am beginning to wonder if it might not be simpler to file a dispute against BozoWare with the credit card company an getting my $60 samolians back, and wait until it is on sale for $12.99 or less.

Damn, Cyan, I thought you had it.

From what I've heard the crash-free and mostly bug-free experience I had won't be the case were I to try again, as the newest patches seem to have made things worse for many.

Yet I have no reason to try again until they fix the one major issue I am having. My voice isn't the same. Anyone know if there's a working save editor or any other mod that can fix that? I've been unable to find one.
