I play for fun. she's a min-maxer to the extreme. She could kick my ass in most cRPGs simply from squeezing out every possible DPS from every spent skill point. Fortunately, she much prefers to team up and take out AI controled baddies.

I tried ... board games, ccg's, xbox, etc. ...

I'm not hyper competitive, but you just can't lose EVERY round.

Additionally it's not fair to them if you don't make them earn it imo.

Mhm...this reminds me of...cupcakes. We should send a few hundred kilos of concern-cupcakes over to Bioware, remind them of old times.

I have to wonder if the current crew would recognize a mouse and keyboard.

Be sure you label them.

Big letters and PRINT.

Maybe with a user manual. Nah they wouldn't know what to do with that either.

A fair number of people have a bug which means that banter (companions talking to each other while out questing) either doesn't fire at all or rarely does, which means the entire game is played in silence (especially since, in some cases, it seems to be related to ambient music not playing, either).

People with this bug, therefore, miss out on a fair chunk of the game's interactions with their companions (there's about 6 hours' worth of recorded all up, so it's actually unlikely people will hear all the banter in a single game even if it's working), as well as some side stories (such as inter-companion romances beginning--there are 2 that only start if they go through a banter series first) not firing.

It also may affect at-Skyhold random banter between advisors via the people that are sometimes in their offices (Josie and Cullen, specifically) that give a bit more insight into their characters.

Spoiler

Understandably, this is annoying for those affected.

There's an entire thread about it in this section, if you're interested in reading more.

http://forum.bioware...8-party-banter/

Thanks i wasnt aware of this until i heard about someone saying about the chat of party group members... To the moment, luckly i didnt had this bug, to be honest, some companions usually choose the worse situations to chit-chat, when im starting a rift closing battle.

TBH, i dont know if im lucky or what, but i didnt had a single crash or game breaking bug in around 30 hours. I must say, really, the controls are not perfect, i still find horrible that i need to be exactly over loot to get it, and some other minor annoyances, but im getting around the game and playing it. Playing as a mage probably mitigates a lot of problems since i usually stay away from near click fest.

The majority of bugs i found are related to click positioning; usually i need to be right on spot to click, and some loot are completely inacessible. What is frustrating is that you can manage to issue commands like close rift from tactical camera and the player usually do the path finding fine, which could be extended to click to interact+auto move on near targets without much trouble. These kind of thing would make the experience much more smooth without much work.

Finally, the only real big area i found until now is the hinterlands. All other areas like the swamp and val royal are tiny, even by DA standards. I didnt explored fully the desert or know there are bigger areas, but the game dont seen to be so massive as they stated.

Guys, need help again. I´ve been trying to run the game with my new-old rig (AMD FX-6300, 4gb ram, Radeon HD 7750 1gb ddr5) and lets say it works fine (medium-low settings). The problem is some little stuttering (almost none in low settings) BUT the loading screens... Either i get stuck in it or it takes like 2 minutes to load, mostly when i travel to some area. Zero problems in Skyhold, but travelling is giving me headaches. I know is mostly the ram, so what can i do to shut down all the other things that are using ram and what settings should i set? Thanks again, you´ve all already helpd me a lot :)

I think memory is of concern here.  I noticed that right away with the frankenstein desktop I just put together.  The game uses way too much memory.  In my case, much worse scenario since I'm utilizing an APU.  A rather big miscalculation on my part but I ordered 4 gigs of ram to see if my theory is correct.  It's somewhat strange since any other game I've tried on it so far hasn't had a problem with the lack of memory.

First check your system tray to see if there are any unnecessary tasks running there.

Then open Task Manager. Close any unnecessary applications and then look in processes.

This is a lot trickier as you definitely don't want to close the wrong thing(s), but some are easy ... like anything related to "Apple mobile device" or "iTunes".

From what I heard somewhere in this forum, new areas are stored in compressed files that have to be extracted. This may account for load times? I would check disks for defrag, etc. I am no guru, just my thoughts

Well... ****. I really can´t afford a new ram now, maybe in some weeks, want to play damn you Frostbite. True, weird thing, since the minimum ram thingy says 4 gb. Wanna cry.

Yeah, i´ll check that, but is weird since i don´t really have any other stuff open. In processes is more complicated, well, not that much since i don´t have lots of stuff running like i said, but, idk.

Maybe, i have no idea. But gonna make a defrag as well, since my disk is a mess already and never did a proper clean up. Also i´m using Outcome, cause Origin consumes like 1 gb, damn that DRM is a pain in the ass.

Thx for the replays so far, gonna try and see if it works.  <3 this community

@Sutree  4 gig sticks are very cheap now.  I imagine your system is using DDR3 1600 ram?   I know I got my DDR3 2133 XMP for under $40.

Too long loading times have been started happening just recently or it was like that at fhe first launch? I actually measured my loading times in different zones and it was always between 2:30 and 3 minutes. Even loading that tavern in Redcliffe takes 2 minutes. I have no loading time problem with any other game. I have 4 gb ram and dont have ssd. I thought it was just me and this specific problem is really just the end of a very long list (for me) i did not even bother to complain about it. Sorry, i cant help you though, couldnt help myself either.

Skyrim is loading outdoor zones in 10-15 secs btw with the same computer.

The loading times have been ridiculous from day one for me. As in I keep my kindle handy and get in a few pages waiting...and this is on a rig that is used exclusively for gaming - no background programs to close down- has 12gb ram and was built just after the game released.

Even Angry Joe and a few other reviews (I think IGN) commented on how stupidly long the loading time is.

So save you $$$, it won't change anything. Why this wasn't a concern during QA, I'll never understand...like so many other issues I guess.

Besides all shortcomings i cant think myself using a controller. I made my peace with current controls, i cant really think of using a controller in front of a pc. Even dark souls i manage to use keyboard. The closest thing to a controller was a razer nostromo and i couldnt adapt too. I only used controller to play a 95' game of ww1 plane game, i dont even remember the name, but it was fun.

I've been a console peasant (have five of them, including a much loved Pokemon edition N64*sigh*) for a lot longer than I've played PC so I have no issue with using a controller if the control scheme is set up for that, which in this game it clearly is. I've been loving the heck out of Dragon's Dogma on PS3 while I've been cursing this game to the heavens.

I don't like WASD all that much at the best of times (click to move is my preferred PC scheme) and since I play Rogues and the combat mechanics for that class in this game is atrocious enough on controller but (imo) unplayable with m/kb, there was no other choice for me but to but pick up a controller. Which I wasn't happy about since I played the other two games happily as click to move and with tac cam. (grrrr). It's still AWFUL playing a DW rogue though, between the animation and lack of responsiveness- button mashing is all the class is set up for. My guy is now primarily an archer, and I never specialise in archery, sure I'll whip out a bow to pick off distant enemies, but always close in for dagger combat. Dragon's Dogma is a treat in this regard, DA:I, not so much.

Click to move and auto attack would be a godsend in this game. Hope springs eternal I guess...

Long loading time ? It was like that from the start for me, but after defragmenting my hard disk it improved by A LOT,and I mean A LOT! Don't know if the install.exe throws the files everywhere but... defrag is a big recommend.

Also changing the game priority to HIGH through the task manager (right click on program then 'go to details' - right click set priority to high) improves the load time.

It may be a small thing, but I try and use Disk Cleanup before gameplay to clear the cache; this has become a habit since playing Skyrim on a lesser system.

I still don't understand the transition between the loading screen with the stylish cards you can read to the black screen with loading logo.  I wish it would stay on the cards so I can read through them all with a press a button or hit spacebar to continue instead of it going to a black screen.  I know you can read them through the codex but I prefer to read them while I'm waiting instead of going ingame to read.  Is it just me that wants this?

You and me both Peregrinus, it makes zero sense to me. But then I can say that about so much in the game lol!

I think we need to define 'long loading time' mine is a minute or two for each screen (cards and then black), which is still stupidly long imo but nothing has changed it to less than that. That might be acceptable to some, just not to me.

Oddly enough, besides the unusually long load times, and the absolutely aggravating audio stuttering when in combat.. the game runs at a playable rate for me with minimal technical issues. I still think they really need to adjust the keyboard/mouse controls as that drives me absolutely crazy, and of course there is the tactical cam that isn't really a tactical cam at all.  Oh, there is also the strange choppiness to the cutscenes.. Oh wait ,there is more stuff that's not working properly.  :(

Haha! That's the situation for me too Peregrinus. No performance issues at all here, just issues with the crappy controls design, UI, combat mechanics, elf arms, jerky cut scenes...as you rightly point out, the list is loooong. But I had a new machine built for the game, I would expect not to have performance issues.

I did not expect the rest of the issues though. I could have saved a grand and bought a PS4 had I known there was indeed no dedicated PC UI. But then of course I would be missing out on mods and awesome space sims like Elite Dangerous so it sort of evens out I guess.

Still miffed though. Miffed is a permanent state of being for me since Nov 17.

who designed pc controls for dai? i want to meet with him/her. what he/she was thinking? what kind of paint thinner he/she was  sniffing during work? does he/she knows the difference between potato and mouse? did something bad happen to her after game release because i have been cursing a lot when i was trying to play the game. these are some questions that i need answers.

Possible to get a weekly hello and status update from the devs? Been checking this forum every couple of days since the game launched and the updates are sometimes real sparse.

I know you guys are probably mostly focused on DLC and other projects but would love to hear how its going.

I played DA:O and DA2 back to back (for the first time) before this one came out and i just couldnt adjust to the new control scheme so im holding out hope that some of the old setup might still be patched in. I see how there might be technical hurdles with the new engine and more freedom of movement. Would love to hear if its happening or how its progressing.

Yep. 3 months now and SLI/crossfire broken for most, DirectX crashing unresolved, PC UI supposedly being worked on, CTD's regardless of hardware, etc etc. All that and the issues we are talking about.  I think patience is running very thin.  What the devs don't seem to understand is that people complain because they actually still care.

Yes, i know, sadly, i don´t live in the US and dollar value here is to the roof. And i have no stable job since last month, now i´m working as a freelance translator and is not really a huge income. Also, this week is all translate documents and some blogs, and then get paid. I´ll get some extra ram when i can BUT

The loading times have been ridiculous from day one for me. As in I keep my kindle handy and get in a few pages waiting...and this is on a rig that is used exclusively for gaming - no background programs to close down- has 12gb ram and was built just after the game released.

So save you $$$, it won't change anything. Why this wasn't a concern during QA, I'll never understand...like so many other issues I guess.

Also was thinking what Luna said. I´ve been checking some others gamers low rigs, and lots of them with 4 gb ram are running the game better than some others with, lets say, 16 gb. So the problem is about the game not being properly optimized. Also, i saw in Gamefaqs and other forums that people had the same issue when Battlefield 4 was released, freaking long load issues, so Frostbite acts pretty unstable even if you meet the requirements.

Long loading time ? It was like that from the start for me, but after defragmenting my hard disk it improved by A LOT,and I mean A LOT! Don't know if the install.exe throws the files everywhere but... defrag is a big recommend.

And this too. Thanks a lot to all you guys, very kind.

Hope this makes the game playable. Like i said, when the game is running is ok, but... dem loading screens. True, @Peregrinus, maybe they should make some mini game while loading, like a mini Sera throwing arrows to a Coryphanus puppet or something.
