I played and re-played DAO...several times...
I can remember Orzamar got a bit stale for me but no biggie....that game was fabulous....created a stir....got loads of things right....hit a chord with PC gamers and became a benchmark. Bioware was onto a winner. Even if they had made a second game of more of the exact same thing they would have delighted most people.
Improvements of course could be made...they were obvious and there for the doing all under the umbrella of the Origins brand.
How in God's name you go from that to DAII is beyond belief. You have to be seriously stupid or so far up your own ar*e and so egotistical as to believe you could radically change the game and make it better. DAII was a simple con trick....use the popularity of DAO to sell a rubbishy travesty that would have been OK only if it had been released as free DLC!
With hindsight I should have known that that was the end of Dragons Age...of course hindsight is 20-20. Looking back you can see that Bioware was already gone that Dragons age was not slated for development....the descisions taken were being made knowing that they din't have the talent to capitalise...only the brand to trade off of.
I was fooled too; wanted to believe I guess. The longer development time of DAI, the promises of PC for PC by PC; I thought, OK this is the real second game and will go back to it's roots because only a fool would ruin the franchise further.
But thus it was...no lessons learned....almost a doubling down on the hubris, "you will like my vision!" and politically correct rubbish....you can see Bioware does not exist anymore! It is simply a name to be cashed in on as long as people believe it represents something.
When you realize this....when you try a second playthrough of DAI and realise you just can't finish it....when you realise "the patch" is not coming...only then when you uninstall DAI and Origins and know you will never buy another EA game again....only then will you feel peace.
I never played DAO as a rogue....I'm going to....and then call it a day....RIP Dragons Age. RIP Bioware....I am sorry I contributed to your prolonged purgatory...be at peace and go softly into the good night.
We are both free now.
