"Broken" is probably going too far, as it implies that it's not functional, like at all. While I do not believe that is the case, I was always advocating that Inquisition could be so much more and there is simply no justification for eradicating stuff that worked or common features that existed in the previous games of the series (I mean for real, storage has existed in RPG's -yes Bioware RPG's as well- for ages now). It wouldn't surprise me if the conscious decision to cancel Shadow Realms played a small part to this sudden...kindness on their behalf. It almost certainly freed resources that they are now allocating to other projects it seems. If only they would have done these things 5 or 6 months ago...

I agree with you on this, but for many people it isn't functional.  I've had the damn thing crash trying to quit, let alone start it up.  I can't harvest/mine anything so I can't fill a single req, or spec my Inquisitor.  The game is unplayable in such a state.

For me, that's 'broken'.

Oooo I may know why! So when it's picked up on Gamespot or IGN they can write an article headline like: "If you thought DAI was great before, just you wait!" And then I'll have to see the inevitable link back on Scuttlebutt that further fuels the hiatus between those that enjoy the game and those that do not. A battle to the death. Swords high!

Now, now, that's just so cynical!

Sunshine! Posies!  Look forward, not backward!  They have finally listened - it's four months and busted-ass patches/hotfixes later, but they've listened.  In two months or so, we'll see that maybe something neat will happen.

Personally, this all smacks of sly, slip-it-in-as-a-'patch' ME3's EC to me.

I'm perfectly willing to be wrong, though.

In efforts to support different playstyles, we’ve also included the ability to bind additional mouse buttons

http://blog.bioware....black-emporium/

Look! They`re making us a favor! Or at least it sounds exactly like "look, we`re so generous"...

It does look like it but... All of the changes are simply good. Exactly what people wanted. And they even go for beta? Cant wrap my head around how EA let them do this but this is the way to go. I am genuinely surprised. Still it will be nothing like a DA game and sure as hell i wont be buying anymore DA from Bioware but this one might become a simply good game. Maybe. At least they noticed people play with keyboard and mouse on  PC.

Auto-attack! Oh, my beards and britches, I think I just died and went to heaven. I'm just going to go and line up all my melee characters that I've wanted to play.

Ah... but is it the same as DA2 auto attack?

It might be time to dust off the game then..

Dooming history to repeat itself. Unwavering loyalty and willful ignorance will indeed allow such a thing occur.
Mar. 6th - ME3 released.
June 26th - EC released.
112 days or 16 weeks or 4 months. EC really did not fix all that much for me, but it made it a modicum better.

In comparison:
Nov. 18th - DA:I released.
Mar.(late March probably?) - DA:I patch 5
~130 days or ~18 weeks or ~4 1/2 months. So... almost right on track.

I'm going say this patch is still great news just as I did before the release of EC. If only to foster the warm fuzzies we all have. Cue timewarp gif. Yes, this post is laced with hypocrisy.

n efforts to support different playstyles, we’ve also included the ability to bind additional mouse buttons, as well as an auto-attack key for single player. We’re also including the option to adjust the size of subtitles, and added a shader quality setting to the graphics options, giving players more versatility when running Inquisition.

In Skyhold, we’re adding party storage to the Undercroft—a new feature that many players asked for and we’re happy to finally add. And for those looking to spice up their look, we’ve added an item tinter that lets players use crafting materials to change the color of armor.

Item_Tinter
There are a number of other changes and improvements in the patch, and we’ll provide our beta community with a full list so they can better understand what’s going on in their game.

You’ll be able to sign up for the beta program through the Keep in the near future, so stay tuned for more information.

Please note that due to the nature of our patch infrastructure, the beta program is currently open to selected PC users only. Unfortunately we don’t have any information on this or other upcoming patches to our broader PC player community or other platforms at this time.

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to sharing these improvements with you in the near future.

Auto attack, player storage, rebindable mouse. Nice add ons. It would be great to have also click to move.

I read that, but the article stated they already gave it to some select few. Who are the few from the PC Community?

Where did it say that?   This was published in VG247 today.  The closed beta will be open to selected PC players via The Keep “in the near” future.

I'm not referring to a minimal system, and the posts in the answers.ea.com section are all over the map for systems (high end, mid, minimum). All different configurations were having high CPU usage/crashes/resource allocation issues.

Just for reference (if you can trust this source for information): http://www.ign.com/w..._Hardware_Specs

http://www.ign.com/w..._Hardware_Specs

Basically, its saying an Xbox One runs a custom, 1.75 GHz 8-core CPU, 853 MHz GPU, 8 GIG Ram system. According to this site, a PS4 runs a 8 core, 1.6-2.75 GHz CPU, 800 MHz GPU, 8 Gig Ram.

This game's minimum PC specs are here: http://answers.ea.co...983865#U3983865

Minimum: Quad-core Intel 2.0 GHz or AMD 2.5 GHz CPU; 4 Gig Ram, AMD Radeon HD 4870 or Nvidia 8800 GTX with 512 MB RAM.

In posts on that forum, I've seen systems that far exceed these minimums, and exceed recommended specs, but continue to have crashes. Systems that are still far more powerful than an Xbox One or PS4 (if you trust those listed specs), and yet cannot run smoothly, if at all.

THIS is a problem. It is not necessarily users needing to upgrade their ancient hardware. In some cases we're talking about 8-core processors exceeding 3 GHz with SLI GTX 980s. You can't tell me that kind of system would be holding this game back.

You cant compare both new generation consoles to PC because their architecture is totally different, mainly, consoles use a shared memory pool. The way the basic operating system works at both consoles is different from a PC architecture. Finally, its much more easier to test and fix with a reference hardware (and that is what console is, a replica of reference hardware), than to test on a miriad of PC systems.

Over the course of my years, since MSDOS gaming, "minimal required" is about the same to say "the game will probably run, but very shitty". Sorry to put it bluntly, but its the fact, the minimal system is a excuse to say the game will turn on but your experience will be mostly unpleasant. Any game you play on pc, you should be above the "recommended specs". Usually those specs are already fair low, but at least developers should be honest and come forth recognizing that the recommended specs is really the minimum required for a reasonable play experience. Using the "minimal requirements" is always a play trick.

Next gen consoles are pretty similar now to PC.  Both are now x86 CPU using HSA.  Both consoles are essentially 8 core Kabini AMD chips with a AMD 7870 GPU embedded sharing the 8 gigs of DDR3(Xbox One)/DDR5(PS4).

It's PC with a custom PCB.

There are similarities between these "next gen"(not really) consoles and PC trying to compare the 2 is like comparing a lightbulb to The Sun sure both emit light and heat however the latter is so much more powerful than the former that the former never had a hope in hell of competing.:

1)The HD is some really slow 5600Rpm(ish) unit very old tech when 7200Rpm HD's have been available for years and that's before you even get on to SSD's and SSHD's.

2) The Jaguar APU inside both consoles is also used in tablets and smartphones which is all that needs to be said about that really,They'd have been better off using a Kaveri, its higher clock speed would have helped with the limited 8GB of low speed RAM (APU's respond better to high speed RAM).

3) Related to number 1,the 500GB capacity of said HD is terribly small considering alot of games now take 20GB-50GB installs with patches of similar size in a number of cases.

Spend $550/£600 and you can get a pre-built budget PC that will run circles round a XB1/PS4 and when you factor in the cost saving of not having to get XBLG/PSP just to play MP Games and add all the savings you make getting your games heavily discounted from Steam/GOG/GMG etc it makes little sense to buy a console when the last bastion of consoles( "but exclusives !") is fast fading away.

*Reads patch 5 info and does not see anything related to the Directx crash

It better be in the list of changes, because if it's not, I'm done. They have had plenty of time to address the issue.

I wasn't trying to imply that consoles are superior to PC or ever will be. I was simply pointing out the architecture is the same.

So, I have a bit of bad news. The rebinding of mouse buttons is unfortunately not part of the patch 5 beta. We know this is something the community has been asking for and are looking for ways to implement it in future. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

With regards to general questions, there are additional fixes in the patch 5 beta outside of the ones listed there, and we will provide a full list of changes to the participants.

The program has not opened yet for registration, but will in the near future. We'll put out an announcement once sign ups are open. It's currently only available to PC players, and I'm afraid I don't have any information on future patches on other systems.

But obviously, yes, you probably just read that the mouse buttons were out before typing a response. I understand that this is something that has been highly requested, and understand that this may be frustrating for some.

I speak as one for whom the whole ME3 thing left a sour taste in the mouth:  I don't think Patch 5 is going to be anything like that.

I will cheerfully come back here and let you all (virtually) skewer me if I'm wrong.  But I think - I infer, from what info we have, and especially from what the whole thing implies - that this is for really reals.  We're all a bit pent-up, and understandably so - no one more so than those for whom the silly thing just doesn't run at all, or crashes constantly.  My unsolicited advice is: let that go for now.

We've been asking for new info - I know I have, at every opportunity - from the Community team, and anything that could be revealed about Patch 5.  Well, this is it.  I knew it would be huge and take time, I just wanted them to tell people about it, instead of a vast silence, into which speculation falls like a colorful metaphor.  I've advocated keeping the pressure on; now I advise backing it off some.

do not want them to rush this.  To do it well will take time.  I mean, c'mon, one of the points raised was that DAI was rushed out before it was ready, right?  Okay, they've announced they intend to correct that.  Now is the time to take them at their word and give them a chance to do so.

Full announcement is here, if you haven't seen it:

Bio has all the emails from the Keep database. I'm sure they will choose a suitable random sample.

On top of that, the Origins client gathered hardware information from you. EA/Bio has, by now, built a large hardware database that plays DAI.

Expect an email if your chosen..... my 2 cents
