So, I have a bit of bad news. The rebinding of mouse buttons is unfortunately not part of the patch 5 beta. We know this is something the community has been asking for and are looking for ways to implement it in future. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

With regards to general questions, there are additional fixes in the patch 5 beta outside of the ones listed there, and we will provide a full list of changes to the participants.

The program has not opened yet for registration, but will in the near future. We'll put out an announcement once sign ups are open. It's currently only available to PC players, and I'm afraid I don't have any information on future patches on other systems.

But obviously, yes, you probably just read that the mouse buttons were out before typing a response. I understand that this is something that has been highly requested, and understand that this may be frustrating for some.

DOH.

Yes, it is, but above all, THANK YOU for coming here and clearly letting us know that it's not going to make it into 5, instead of letting expectations build.

- Will the beta have any kind of NDA involved, or will it be permissible to discuss it on the forum?   I can see plusses to either way, just wondering.

- If extra mouse buttons can't be bound, can we still map any keyboard-key to any command?  I ask because most gaming mice will let you bind those extra buttons to arbitrary keys:  therefore that would be a workaround, since to the game you are "pressing" that keyboard key, and it's not interpreting the mouse button input directly.

Thanks again!

yep a lesson I learned too.

I will buy the next Bioware game in a "game of the year edition" with all DLC's and bugfixes.

Blood sacrifice.

Where did it say that?   This was published in VG247 today.  The closed beta will be open to selected PC players via The Keep “in the near” future.

And we all know how Bioware's definition of "near" differs from reality.... But hey, on the bright side, easter is near, i believe saying something last year about getting some fixes during those festive events.

I still have not bought this yet and want to play it so much. But until the PC KB+Mouse controls are addressed, The wait continues.

Is the game still wonky on PC or whatnot?

Thanks

It's good to know y'all are working on letting us bind mouse buttons, even if that is to come later. There is a lot of exciting stuff in patch 5 and, you say more fixes and/or improvements we don't know about yet? Sounds like a good patch/new content.

I'm looking forward the it and, hoping to get accepted as one of the beta testers.

Snip

------

Spend $550/£600 and you can get a pre-built budget PC that will run circles round a XB1/PS4

-------

Snip

Quite true. However, don't forget....

Both platforms are sandbox units... a fixed known quantity , if you will.  Both have 8GB of memory.. a life saver for any of today's games that use the Frostbite 3 engine. And, the APIs of both platforms are "close to the metal", meaning, Mantle is not required.

No question, in my mind, that AAA games will run using the PS4/XB1..... not that I am a console fan.

Your other point about limited storage is true..... but Microsoft, at least, is steering the user to a cloud storage format (already doing this with DAI to a limited extent)... that alone will mitigate this apparent weakness.

One final point, regarding consoles as sandboxed gaming devices.  To get around more demanding future games that will exceed the local computing capacity of the box, there is something called cloud computing.... not limited to just CPU. Access to this service will bypass any present limitations. The caveat is the need for a fast internet connection and the service is probably subscription based.

The above is re-inforced by a Microsoft statement that they want players using both PC and consoles to be able to play with/against each other using MP supported games. Windows 10 is designed with this capability in mind.

Like you,  I believe that PCs will always be more powerful.

Yes, but there is a problem with cloud as well. A lot of people buy offline games like DAI beacuse they have limited bandwidth (me being one of them) we can't be uploading and downloading saves daily and, we can't play MMO games much for bandwidth and/or latency reasons. We buy offline games because we can play them w/o having anything to do with our ISP connection (beyond the validation Origin requires on first run.)

That means consoles are out for me, I have to have local storage for my saves and, want to be able to play the full game offline at any time. I'm not the only one.

And before someone tells me to get a different ISP, the only other option where I live is one with even lower bandwidth limits for the same price or, 24k max speed dial up so, that is not an option unless I move, in which case who will buy this backwoods home for 50g or so sot that I can afford to move to a place with DSL that will accept all of my animals. (note home apprises at 26g)

I am also in a spot with low bandwidth, satellite being my only feasible option.  Latency on satellite is +700ms, I play 100% offline as a result.  Having said that, I would not go back to a more populated place if you paid me.

I won't be pre ordering the next Dragon Age game either.

I did pre order with DA2.....huge mistake.

I waited until DAI was on sale......only then did I buy it.....another huge mistake.

And now even with Patch 5, still not optimized for PC keyboard and mouse. Bioware has turned their back on the PC community that made DAO a success and now only caters to consoles with controllers.

I wouldn't hold your breath for any more bug fixes and any optimizations for PC now.

Bioware will focus on releasing the DLC and adding more options instead of fixing bugs.

I'm extremely unimpressed with how Bioware sold out to console gamers with controllers, extremely disapointed and then lie to all us PC gamers saying DAI is made for the PC for PC gamers.

If it were up to me, I would fire the lot of these guys and hire fresh!!!

Never thought I'd see the day where Bioware would actually ask us to beta test...a patch. A patch for crying out loud. Obviously it's not going to be your everyday patch (they seem to be putting actual development time on it which is good and at least an indication that they are willing to remedy mistakes, even if it's too little too late) and considering the severity of the additions, one cannot help but ask for the millionth time, "why the hell wasn't this part of the release" or more to the point "why did you release the game when you did, leaving these -for some essential- elements out of it". In a nutshell, we have been beta testing (big surprise there) and we are now being officially asked to continue doing so. Amusing, to be honest.

It's a step in the right direction. Bioware used to dance with us fans. Now, it's that awkward social when you're 11 and every girl around you looks like they belong on an NBA team. Still, I was never shy, then and now, come on and let's slow dance.

Auto attack, player storage, rebindable mouse. Nice add ons. It would be great to have also click to move.

You would think it goes in pair with auto-attack. They have a lot to relearn. Or they did not told us just yet. According to the blog its not the full list.

I ain't pre-ordering nothing! Bio taught me that lesson.

Preordering? What 2014 has taught me is that I will never again buy a game after at least four or five months have passed and patches have been released to finish the game. It is clear that releasing unfinished games has become par of the course in the AAA industry. We have been seing this for years now. I don't want to play an unfinished game only to have it finally polished once I've already played through it.

I can understand small, unimportant bugs that are certain to creep up into any piece of software, but not glaring issues of the likes of what we have seen lately with Assassins Creed or Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Notice the preferred skills of the Online Producer. Do you think there is a guy at the Edmonton Studion that fits the role?

So, no key to mouse rebinding.

So how do you think auto attack will work?

1. Just press the R key to start and the R key again to stop?

2. Point at someone, left click and off you go?

3. Will my tank go after my "clicked" target for the kill?

4. Will this work only for my quizzie?

5. Can I switch character during combat?

6. Is locked-on-my-target part of auto-attack or will I be ripping air apart again... automatically?

5 sounds good.

1. auto-attack.....Awesome but does it include auto-follow target for melee characters? Now just add in click to move and I am good.
