Because we should totally believe everything that Bioware says. They'd never steer us wrong. Right? Right?
The only actual information we have about the PC controls is that mouse button rebinding isn't going to be in the next patch. That's it. I'll err on the optimistic side for once and assume that means that they are, in fact, working on mouse button binding.
I should also note that they have never committed to addressing anything in this thread (aside from what they've already fixed). Not once. That doesn't exactly instill confidence.
It's not like we have much of a choice. We take what we're given, or we leave. That's pretty much how it works. It's on Bioware to determine how much they want us to stay.
This is what I am referring to:

Note the last few paragraphs, especially. Now after reading that, look at the announcement Conal posted here about the beta. Some matching themes there, yesno?
Read between the lines here. I know you're annoyed, and with good reason. But don't let it cloud your judgement or perception. What I see between these two items is, "Yes, we know, and you're right about a bunch of it, and we wanted it in the game all along, but deadline for release is not up to us, and we're making the case to management for them to let us get it to you now like we intended it to be in the first place."
This whole program succeeding is very important for all of us. Bioware's content teams will not - cannot, under any circumstances - publically say anything that criticises management. It's a reality of corporate life. Get used to it, because they had to, and I guarantee you it was just as unfun for them as it is for us. I can also guarantee you that this Beta program was not something EA just up and decided to do because they feel bad. Unnamed BW folks, and we will likely never know whom, had to make a case for this being the best move, getting it approved, getting it paid for by the same management that would rather just turn everything into low-cost console microtransaction multiplayer.
I know it's frustrating, and seems unclear and weird if you've never had any large enterprise experience.
Bottom line: if you want there to be any chance for the Bioware teams to be able to bring you the content they'd like to create, this must succeed. It must be proven that engaging with customers and bringing them in the loop a little leads to a gain. It must be proven that spending the time and effort and cash on making a PC game that uses a PC's capabilities still leads to a gain. And it must be proven that addressing customer issues and responding to their concerns is more effective and successful then simply marketing the hell out of something and then ignoring complaints.
I don't know who you are, Bioware team leads or managers or impassioned programmer from the UI team who went to bat to help make this happen, and we probably never will, and you will likely never read this. But thank you. Yes, this could be the turning point you're hoping it will be. I'm hoping so too. Here's to cooperation and engagement.
