When are we going to have scars back? I still can't see/add any to my characters.

Auto attack is the equivalent of holding down your basic attack hotkey, which is what I used to do.  Casting a spell will interrupt it but it will attack again afterwards.  Moving around will stop the auto attack entirely.  I replaced my basic attack hotkey and no problems so far.

Downloading patch 5 failed ?

try repairing the game after the download fails. It worked for me. Repaired to latest version.

"Improved stability."

What does that mean?

Presumably some kind of fix for stuttering and crashes.

Thanks for that, I thought I tried that but I must have messed up somewhere.

"Improved stability" lol. I wasn't having any problems with my game crashing until I updated to the latest patch today.

auto attack and interact should share the same key like DA2

with improved zoom and camera following the controlled character now the game can be played in tactical mode even outside combat but the game still needs better rendering and we should be able to move the screen even when paused.

Well now they expanded on the patch notes, and the main thing I was looking for is in, Auto-Attack. Now that we have patch notes, can anyone who tested this give details as to what bioware calls auto-attack now, is it true auto-attack or an ****** toggle and you just swing until you turn it off?

Auto attack works. You can use abilities while it automates the basic attack between them. It does however disengaged after each enemy, so when fighting a group, you have to keep engaging it again. So yes working auto attack, could use improvement IMO, but it does work.

So pretty much a useless feature, do they not understand auto-attack/auto-follow target, have they not played DAO or most any PC rpgs?

lol an auto-attack button. I get the impresion that "adding a button" becomes a default solution for every issue in the game. A few more patches and i have to grow 10 additional fingers:-) Well i rather stick to the "hold the left MB to attack" method.

But honestly the patch surelly made some improvements to the game. The increased TC zoom looks good and an item storage is always nice. Didn't test it for long but  Varric seems to keep his distance from enemies now.

Can't say that this patch broke something for me

Hmmm... having played a bit, things be a-hap'nin, at least to me.

So far, my Deluxe Edition 'goodies' have vanished from the little chest (doesn't even highlight) in the room I wake up in, so no "-of-the-Dragon" anything. Yeah, I repaired the game after patching. Can't find 'em anywhere.

So, screwed out of what made the Deluxe the Deluxe.  Not even mad, because not remotely surprised by EA upfookery. Thanks for that. <_<

The mouselook is better, but when it's enabled and you read/loot/pick/do pretty much anything, it goes away, so you are constantly having to re-enable it, which makes it kinda ...useless. Yeah, yeah, "future releases".  Still an feckin' excuse, same ol', same ol', shovel, shovel.

The subtitles are nicer and the gameplay is slightly smoother.  Auto-attack is fine, I guess.  Haven't used it much yet. Waiting for it to go t!ts-up as well.

Waiting for the doubletalk defending the spew about "Black Emporium" and the massive big middle finger of a thudding non-delivery.  Hopefully we are all well-versed enough in EA's chicanery not to be at all surprised they failed to deliver.  Ah, marketing.  Not lies, just creative repositioning of the truth.

Funny.  I wanna play this game even less, now.  Weird.

I noticed the first time. It's at Ultra but doesn't look like before patch. I'm thinking of deleting config file but not sure. Whatever they did makes the game look different and not for the better I must say. I'm in EU too :)

Ultra here, too, and the game looks like always D:

Well I tried out the new patch, the auto attack key mitigates some of the clunkiness to the action combat mode and the zoomed out tactical camera is nice.  It is a good first step but what I wish Bioware would do is:

1. fade out the trees and objects that hinder your sight in tactical camera mode

2. remove collision from the camera, this is a big one because I don't want mountains, ceilings and trees to make the camera pan down to my character then slowly snap back when the obstruction is moved away.  It is also really annoying that I have to move the floor cursor around objects when it should just go through them.

3. improve the ui, it is very annoying to have to cycle through like 6 different menus for inventory management.  UI scaling is also a problem because it might be good for a television that is far away but it is bad for a computer monitor that is close to your face.  Also the skill menu is atrocious and please allow me to map abilities to my quick bar during combat.

Overall I have to express my disappointment with Bioware and Electronic Arts, they marketed this game to be for pc and pc gamers but there are so many optimization issues in terms of controls and interface that it is painfully obvious that they overlooked the pc platform and misrepresented their game to their customers.  Even if Bioware patches all of these issues in time and we end up with a game that works well with a keyboard and mouse with a sensible interface it will still not take away peoples frustration with having their first play through tainted with these fundamental design and execution issues.  And to anyone who says that pc gamers should just use a controller, that is unacceptable for a product claiming to be for pc gamers but they cannot use a mouse and keyboard which is the main peripheral of all pc gamers.  That would be like telling halo fans that halo 6 cannot be used properly with a controller but you will have to buy a xbox one keyboard and mouse just for this game.

As a closing statement I feel like for every step this game took forward it took two back,  It amazes me that Bioware had already made a functional interface and combat system in DAO but then created this, this game is supposed to be an upgrade but everything from the controls to the core combat system is gimped.  Why couldn't Bioware simply leverage the code, knowledge and assets that they already had to make an amazing game and a worthy successor to DAO?

Yeah I feel the same. The reason they didn't is its all new kids at the helm, all the old guard devs have left. The only thing any of the devs that worked on DAI did with DAO was the console port. Oh and maybe the expansion for DAO which IMHO was a step back from DAO with boring companions and only be able to talk to them at the keep etc.

I do not know if that is true but it is plausible to me because I would have a hard time believing that whoever built/developed DAO's ui and combat would think that this is a sensible system for pc

Do your textures and lighting feel less detailed too? It really bothers me. I have 60 fps most of the time now, going down to 52-53 at Hinterlands Crossroads but everything looks... shinier. I played with the settings (ultra to high, exit, run and high to ultra again) and no change.

Check your shaders settings.

Shaders have replaced meshes and textures for scars and whatnot. In beta, I could have meshes and textures on low, but with the shaders on high/ultra I got a similar look to ultra/ultra. Performance improves immeasurably for those who were struggling with higher settings, but the shaders give a better level of detail.

Back to 6, now.

[snip]

That did not happen to me in the 5 beta -- I have a new game running for 6 so will see if I can recreate that bug there (as 5 is incorporated into 6, still, for us). I will also check on my P5 of the official game to see if it happens.

If it does, I have a theory as to why. ;)

Quick question: are you having the same problem with the wee chest at Skyhold?

And, was this on a brand new game or were you already

Spoiler
when you patched?

The patch is an improvement but I'm really waiting now for the ability to re/bind mouse buttons. If I could put Auto-Attack on the mouse as in Origins, then I think I could put up with everything else.

Plus I confess to not starting the game for a while but have loading times always been this bad? A black screen with a pulsing symbol at the bottom right, then a lovely picture loading screen with the flippable hints, and then back to the black screen with a pulsing symbol.

Definitely a step in the right direction with this patch though.
