He feels some people require a good kick in the balls.

"100 little bugs to gooo, fix one, recompile, 120 bugs to gooooo" Describes perfectly bioware's patching efforts.

I have a feeling we'll never see a working tac cam or anything that'll make this game a proper PC title. If at the very least they could release modding tools so the community could pick up the slack, but after 4 months without ANY form of progress, the hype is pretty much dead.

Well, some progress. Almost finished with my current campaign, and close to continuing the next, and all with a working Tac-Cam and upgraded patches!

Still waiting on sub-titles to re-appear, so I hope for this in the upcoming patches if it was not included in this last one. Just indicating my continuing concern to remain OT.

Ultra here, too, and the game looks like always D:

Had to toggle shader from ultra to medium, accept, quit. Run game, set from medium to ultra, accept, quit. Run game, fixed.

Check your shaders settings.

Shaders have replaced meshes and textures for scars and whatnot. In beta, I could have meshes and textures on low, but with the shaders on high/ultra I got a similar look to ultra/ultra. Performance improves immeasurably for those who were struggling with higher settings, but the shaders give a better level of detail.

Back to 6, now.

It seems the new shader setting had to be changed down and up until it 'saved' the correct value. All is ok now. :)

So guys with patch 5 now.

Can I play DAI w/o having any problems like bugs or broken quest? I can manage the gameplay even w/o using the tac-cam or wait for patch 6 for my REAL playthrough.

Exactly this!

Bioware's efforts, however noble it may be, is a little too late. They went and messed this up big time!

Tac Cam will NEVER be fixed, I can pretty much guarantee it. I never ever touch Tac Cam either. It is nothing short of an abomination.

As for game breaking bugs, I haven't encountered many, even prior to patch 5. But then....perhaps patch 5 introduced new bugs. Who knows...

I believe we have a different definition of a "working tac cam", as it's been said before it's basically worthless, because:

- It's blocked by trees, rocks and more importantly ceilings making it unusable in interiors

- it still has idiotic consolesque controls with the stupid cursor you have navigate around obstacles with WASD in order to move the camera

Just look at this, it's an interior in DAO from the "action cam" perspective, notice the ceiling:

eqZsjR1l.jpg

Now, the same interior using the tac cam, notice the absence of previously mentionned ceiling. No stupid cursor there either, the camera moves around freely:

JjIUT8ql.jpg

in inquisition you'd be seeing your character's feet from up close

That's what you call a usable and working tac cam, not the steaming pile of crap Bioware vomited in DAI.

Performance is increased on my new save but no improvements on older save states. Stuttering is still there but I can say it's much better than before. CTD when accessing the vendor screen still continues, not as frequent as pre-patch 5 but it's still there. CTD on allocating skill points is still there as well.

It really is frustrating to see this state of the game 4 months after the launch. We should have been talking about a story driven DLC by now.

Well now Patch 5 Beta is over I suppose I should cite the 1 weird issue I had when attempting to enter the War Room for the 1st time after you are made Inquisitor my computer Bluescreened citing a unrecoverable hardware error a full check and diagnostic revealed nothing is wrong with my hardware and have never had a bluescreen with any other game but this, after reading that the Black Emporium is not included in the public release patch 5 I have no desire to play this until it is included in patch 6 or whatever but since I'm not in the patch 6 beta I have no idea what to expect.

Oh well back to Co-Op missions on AC Unity and Vanduul Swarm Co-Op on Star Citizen at least Cloud Imperium Games know how to make a PC game that works unlike Bioware.

It's funny how they've bragged about being able to put four legged creatures ingame when "everyone else" have been telling them it's impossible, but adding an UI element allowing people to choose the color of the pajamas in skyhold? Nigh impossible, because it requires memory and stuff.

As much as I agree that the game needs more fixing and less 'new content', it's also fair to recognize this patch has good things.

The Good:

- Subtitles and cursor size are adjustable. This is important for people with sight issues.

- Shader Setting allows for better tuning of graphic performance.

- Tints. Now we all can look as cool or dumb as we want.

The OKish:

- Auto-attack. Helps people with hand issues (like me) but not being able to bind it to mouse is bad. Also no auto-follow makes it really useless for melee.

- New mouse-look toggle. Good addition but it should be toggled differently. Maybe hold right mouse button for X time?

- Tact-cam zoom slider. Nice but tact-cam needs the option to move camera by going to the screen edge. Using keys is a pain.

The Bad:

- Plenty of Day 1 bugs still present plus new ones.

- Male elf still crippled. 5 patches and not fixed is getting to the point it feels like racism+sexism.

- Fog/flicker issues still there for many people.

So thanks, it's the first patch that does some good stuff, but we need you to focus on fix and improve, forget DLC until there's a solid base game.

BTW, are shoulders 'broken' for tier 2 heavy armour for everyone or is it just me? Look:

Wow I am really disappointed. The game came out on 21st November, 3.5 months since and the tactical camera is still ****? I bought the game release week and haven't even bothered playing and when I heard patch 5 was out I thought finally I may be able to play the game. So the tactical camera still requires moving with WASD? What a bloody joke. And what about auto-attack, is it like in Origins? I hated having to hold down the auto attack button in Dragon Age 2 as it was not "auto" if you just toggled it, the attack speed was 10 times faster if you held down the button. I learned that quite late in the game too. What a console POS mess...

Even an option to keep armor equipped in Skyhold and at the War table in Haven (thus not having to parade in your skivvys while judging people and making world changing decisions) seems an impossible task to Bioware even after the modding community was able to change that 1 to a 0 using a 3rd party scripting engine.

It would have been hilarious if it wasn't so damn frustrating...

Ha, the new patch just introduced microstuttering to my otherwise 60+ fps stable framerate..., which is strange because this was not part of the patch 5 beta i've been testing.

LOL....I just got issued a warning by a moderator because THEIR swear word filter failed.

This was the last straw for me.

I wish you all here good fortune and more wisdom in the future when considering purchasing Bioware products. But I've wasted quite enough time with this company.

I still fail to see how the controls are a "priority" to them, since they've fixed exactly nothing aside from a buggy and illogical autoattack (separate button, yeah)...

... Not sure about you guys but Auto-attack without auto-follow does not seem particularly useful or am I not understanding this correctly? ...

The auto attack as its designed right now form my understanding is almost useless but its something I suppose. You are correct that its the equivalent of wedging a penny in your keyboard to hold down the KEY....Thats all it does.

No that's not how it works. Wedging a penny in my keyboard would've have my warrior repeatedly attack the thin air  :P  Seriously that was not fun, I hated that.

What the auto-attack button does is have my warrior close in on the target as in the tac cam. I'd welcome mouse-bindings and it'd be good if we didn't have to re-engage auto-attack, but still this key has made combat for me as a warrior a lot better. Less button-mashing than before, and no more hitting the thin air  ;)

Yep; if the Tac-Cam is blocked on that route by obstacles, so will the character; allows the Player to take that route and remain in cover for setting ambush, or taking an alternative route to gain LOS. And Tac-Cam works well overall for me.

Now, I do not have these problems and have no idea as to why. It was far worse for me to get interior views in DA2 (no Tac-Cam), and while corners can present some up close issues like many other games, I utilize Tac-Cam consistently with both inside and outside settings. Perhaps this is due to re-mapping and practice; perhaps it is due to Options chosen. It certainly is not my masterful control of the game, as Pause is my bff.

Nice shots of DAA; glad Bioware finally patched that expansion.

Now you're just making up excuses for bioware's gross incompetence. The tac cam should give you an overview of the battlefield, not force you to zig zag around trees and use the stairs just to see something you want to interact with. The mechanics in DAI are a pure console limitation since a gamepad has no mouse option, thus the stupid invisible fifth character cursor (same goes for the limited skillset). There's nothing tactical in there, just deliberate laziness.

(I use a crapton of mods in awakening to make it less buggy btw)

No; the old Tac-Cam had that feature; the new one offers routing and advanced intel on targeted opponents. Am hoping to get all of it someday.

Now I use the Tac-Cam for tactics, so I have severe doubts that I am a rarity. Where one problem does lie occurs when switching between Tac-Cam and Action; may cause a re-set of positions on elevated surfaces? But overall, things run fine; not perfect, but well.

What is tactical camera? The view centering around that yellow mark on the ground. Its the caracter you control when switch to tac cam. that mark on the ground bevaves like any other character you control in normal mode. It cant cross objects, cant get up to any slope your characters cant. You cant detach the camera horizontally, you cant even move vertically with the mouse wheel. Why? Because that is what a controller can handle. It cant handle more, This is how isometric rpg plays with a controller. Wonder why they did not do it in Origins on console?... this ridicoulus joke of a tactical mode will not be improved to be worthy of using it with keyboard and mouse, because this is a sloppy version of Origins isometric view limited and designed to a controller. Gigantic sized buttons in the UI (attack my target button for example) are the substitute for the missing proper keyboard+mouse control. I have beta access and i cant say anything because of the NDA. I just say that's it for me, i dont expect the impossible, im not satisfied with what ive seen, nor interested anymore.

Not being able or willing to to change this is a message to the PC community, a reference for future games from BW. I dont even check news on mass effect 4 anymore. Maybe i will if i decide to buy a ps4 or xbox.
