With new patch, game's performance improved, I must admit that.

But then... Bye, bye Val Royeaux music. I was so happy to finally hear it after using unofficial fix (the one with Skyhold war room). I do hope that my banter didn't return to the state from before... Well, time to go and explore EdL to see what happens.

Now I use the Tac-Cam for tactics

Can you please make a video of that? I am sincerely intrigued by your definitions of TacCam.

If you can capture a video of your "tactical" game, please focus on things like TacCam's ability to bump into obstacles helps you to map the terrain or pick a route! This will allow me to see and understand how that helps you to set ambushes and gives you a tactical oversight of current battlefield.

Also if you're going to do it, can you add an interior TacCam gameplay? Obviously I am doing it just like the rarity you've mentioned previously and would like to see it done properly.

Thank you in advance!

There actually isn´t supposed to be any music in Val Royeaux ;)

"You may have heard of a workaround players are using in order to get music playing in Val Royeaux and Skyhold. The only time that music should be playing in these places is during certain cinematic scenes, conversations, or at the war table. If music is playing outside of these situations, it may actually be a bug. We are currently investigating this issue."

Thank you so much for telling me that! So it means there may still be hope for my banter. I really need to hear about Bull and Dorian's relationship.

So, here we are again. An other patch an other let down. I had put this game on hold as I found the combat tedious and to be frank the story not to be more than above average. Above average story doesn't outweigh the almost broken control scheme of this game.

I've been patiently waiting for all the fixes Bioware promised but the only thing I've seen when I've tested the new patches is half done "fixes" to things a modding community, with no support I might ad, already had fixed. The new patches broke more than they fixed.

I was so excited for this patch as I saw that it would finally include auto attack and some fixes to the tac cam. Now I realize that I was very naive to expect it to be anything like DAO. It's true that you now can zoom out more when you use tac cam which is great, but it still get stuck in the terrain and is unusable indoors and to be able to bind the auto attack to your mouse button seems to be a lost art of the olden day's (or customize any mouse buttons for that matter).

The only class I find to be even remotely fun playing with the current controls are aoe dmg mage and that is sad indeed. They say hope is the last thing that dies, and my hope is almost dead and buried.

I know this is somewhere on this site, but:

Not sure what it means now that Gaider is gone from DA.

PS:  I know thing about this Patrick Weekes.  But his attempt at humor leaves something to be desired.

Ok, now Dragon Age is officially dead. Gaiders characters was sadly the only good thing left in this franchise.

This may be just me, but I get the oddest sense that EA is just finishing the console-to-PC-port now and using the customers to do it.

I couldn't swear to it, of course, but it would explain a lot.

Y'know, because EA.

Also the mods are circling and looking for agitators because people are a bit PO'd.  One or two are notoriously quick on the trigger, so watch yourselves.  It's not censorship nor stifling dissent.

It's in the name of Harmony and Niceness, ya stinkin' bunch of malcontents.

What is tactical camera? The view centering around that yellow mark on the ground. Its the caracter you control when switch to tac cam. that mark on the ground bevaves like any other character you control in normal mode. It cant cross objects, cant get up to any slope your characters cant. You cant detach the camera horizontally, you cant even move vertically with the mouse wheel. Why? Because that is what a controller can handle. It cant handle more, This is how isometric rpg plays with a controller. Wonder why they did not do it in Origins on console?... this ridicoulus joke of a tactical mode will not be improved to be worthy of using it with keyboard and mouse, because this is a sloppy version of Origins isometric view limited and designed to a controller. Gigantic sized buttons in the UI (attack my target button for example) are the substitute for the missing proper keyboard+mouse control. I have beta access and i cant say anything because of the NDA. I just say that's it for me, i dont expect the impossible, im not satisfied with what ive seen, nor interested anymore.

Not being able or willing to to change this is a message to the PC community, a reference for future games from BW. I dont even check news on mass effect 4 anymore. Maybe i will if i decide to buy a ps4 or xbox.

I'm with you mate, you're not quoting the right person :D

He's been trying to convince us bioware did everything deliberately as a tactical choice since the very beginning... The tac cam is the EXACT copy of the console version which was made with gamepad limitations in mind, nothing more, nothing less.

I got tired of mashing the 'Search' button, so wrote a little script that searches for as long as I hold 'Back' on my mouse. I'm using the Logitech Gaming Software and your average gaming mouse. You can replace the 'K' with whatever as long as it's the same key as 'Search' in Keybindings ;)

Here's the script in case someone else also want to avoid button-mashing:

Sorry, you cant play intiutive way. If you are able to initiate auto-attack with click on the enemy you would be halfway to click-to-move control, but its a big no no. When you push a button something awesome has to happen.

Well, you still have to target and re-engage auto-attack... But yes using the below script in your Logitech profile for DAI will initiate auto-attack when clicking 'Back' on the mouse. It reads the F key which I use for auto-attack.

To be fair, Bioware hasn't actually promised anything at all. They've been very careful to keep their communication as empty as possible.

I have a feeling we'll never see a working tac cam or anything that'll make this game a proper PC title. If at the very least they could release modding tools so the community could pick up the slack, but after 4 months without ANY form of progress, the hype is pretty much dead.

We won't and I seriously question the wisdom of continuing a discussion here that is, for all intends and purposes, purely theoretical and probably moot, at this point. Sadly, I called this back in November and again in late December but it seems, hope dies last (at least for some people). We can only hope that Bioware will refrain from making comments (or videos or whatever) concerning PC gameplay, unless they can back up their claims with an actual, finished product.

Really, all that's needed for the tactical camera to be usable is:

  • Click-to-move functionality (auto-attack button without auto-follow is fail)
  • Non-claustrophobic zoom distance/zero collision with ceilings
  • Edge panning

Basically features that have been in isometric games circa 1992 and that come intuitively to anyone using a mouse and keyboard. Not including those pretty much tells everyone who their intended audience is.

It's funny how they've bragged about being able to put four legged creatures ingame when "everyone else" have been telling them it's impossible, but adding an UI element allowing people to choose the color of the pajamas in skyhold? Nigh impossible, because it requires memory and stuff.

They didn't 'brag' about any such thing. They mentioned in a video that the Frostbite engine developers told them that the engine would not render quadrupeds and that they had to work closely with the Frostbite guys to get it so that it would.

BTW I suspect that there is a similar engine limitation responsible for the stupid solid camera in Tac Cam. Frostbite was made primarily for first-person games so the camera represents the player, who can't go through solid objects. They either ran out of time to fix that issue or thought they could get away without doing it.

The pyjama colour thing is not a technical limitation - it's a design choice. The pyjamas are used as a base for quite a few armours (mainly Light armours) and change colour depending on the armour materials. Mods that change the pyjama colour interfere with this which is why you won't ever see it added to the game in a patch.

Cool, will try it out, thank you!

Fair enough, I was more thinking about how they went out of their way and promoted the game as a PC game and how the control scheme worked on the previous installments on PC vs console. I admit I just assumed Bioware wouldn't scrap their entire control scheme from previous installments, I thought that was just common sense. (don't fix something that ain't broken)

Edit: And no, I wouldn't call these changes that they've done innovations... Cause there is nothing wrong with innovation.

Nope; lack the ability to make vids, but do recommend Gopher whenever he should start playing DAI.

But take the screenshot at the top of the page. I use the Option in Gameplay? to float the camera, and use the routing to scout the enemy as is done here, and gather intel on strengths & weaknesses. With my current party, I choose Solas to place Barrier on the party before starting battle, place Dorian behind cover (eg; larger trees), and I can choose to emplace a Static Cage around the archer for containment, control, and possible combo. Then start time; generally shift to Action mode, but if there are large elevation differences, remain in Tac-Cam.

Next round, I Pause again, generally command Cassandra to Lunge attack at the archer to close quickly, and the other Companions are left on AI to utilize spells as they will, while I either continue to attack the archer, or look for other such foes that may have joined the fray. Etc.

Now in such dense foliage, or when one is trying to avoid entering the water, the routing helps with choosing better paths. This seems to help avoid larger groups to form, and enables better combat control over the battlefield. Generally. no problems with vision, targeting, etc as I have practiced with the re-mapped WASD, and Q&E of the Tac-Cam plus any other keys that were granted to the camera.

Not hard at all; worth the time invested before all gameplay for re-mapping, and gained practice during tutorial areas including Haven.

Giving up and going home does two things.

One, it justifies all those smug jackholes who love to slither in and slop their crap all over the place, and how much more fortunate/smarter/better than you they think they are;

and two, it justifies EA's deceptive half-assery.

Here's a radical idea:

Stay and complain. Complain and keep complaining and punctuate your complaints with the sounds of your wallets slamming shut.  Maybe they'll realize that it's actually more profitable in the long run to have happy customers willing to pay than the quick one-two "bent-over-in-the-alley-blackjack-grab-and-run" business model they're running now.

This model exists because we allow it to exist.  It's easy to say "I h'ain't buying no more!" but you and I all know that it always comes down to "well, maybe one more, it's been a while" while the slick marketing and deceptive vids and weaselly wording stroke and schmooze up to your money and then wham-bam-eff-you-gotcha-again and the cycle continues as they run to the bank with the sucker cash firmly in hand.

Frankly, we deserve this garbage and being treated like morons by the devs.  We keep letting them get away with it.

Honestly - look at it from their perspective - if you hang a sign out with a picture of easily-made, cookie cutter gold-painted crap and a lot of shady superlatives and some cretin continually comes to your door, holds his wallet open and insists you take however much you'd like, why would you stop? You only notice when that idiot wises up and stops coming.

The sad thing is that this isn't news to anyone with the ability to breathe oxygen.

Round and round it goes...

To be fair, this really is all it takes. I say ALL it takes as I reckon it's a complete overhaul of the whole engine to be able to do the clipping needed to see through ceilings and not get blocked by obstacles. As pointed out before, the cursor is basically just another character and very much feels like that.

The new zoom option on the Tac-Cam is definitely a step closer but it's never going to be like DA:O and I do not think for one moment that Bioware intended it to be, and probably think we're making a mountain out of a molehill and have to tried to assist as best they can.

I think we'll have to accept that this game and most AAA games do not fully cater for PC gamers now. It's blatantly obvious that the Inventory system in this game was NEVER intended to fully utilise the mouse and keyboard set-up. It is, pretty close to horrendous and without a doubt the worst inventory system I have ever used in an RPG. For god's sake Mass Effect had a better/easier UI than this.

<snip>

- New mouse-look toggle. Good addition but it should be toggled differently. Maybe hold right mouse button for X time?

<snip>

My take on the mouse look would be to have the ability to swap states of the mouse between camera movement and UI interaction.  Currently, one has to hold right mouse button to move camera and let go of the button to interact with the UI.  Why not provide a toggle to reverse that, do not need to hold right mouse button to move camera and hold right mouse button to interact with UI?  Or is this how its implemented?
