In my opinion, this is the best RPG in the modern gaming world. Excellent work, Bioware. Under the glorious enlightenment and guidance from EA, a game publisher with precise long-term vision in future game development, Bioware finally manages to make a RPG suitable for everyone, but not just a game accessible only to a minority of hardcore RPG players.
DA: Origins is an old-school and medicore game only appealing to a tiny market niche. DA II breaks the medicority, and introduces the popular mass effect decision tree and button-mashing mechanics, which attracts tons of Call Of Duty (COD) and action gamers around the world, contributing to its great success. However, it still suffers from a linear and small game world, and repetitive dungeons.
DA: Inquisition evolves from its predecessors by combining the best elements of 2 popular RPGs in modern era. It adopts the sandbox open world, lightweight RPG perspective and enormous fetch quest system from the highly praised Elder Scroll Skyrim, as well as the popular decision tree mechanism and the combat elements from another Bioware's master piece, Mass Effects 3.
By having a cohesive reasonance of 2 best elements from 2 outstanding RPGs, and adding tons of creative elements, this game simply becomes one larger than the sum of all parts. You have a large world to explore, tons of item collection and FedEx quests to play with, and the best button mashing mechanics to finish off your opponents. Skyrim and this game is great because they both remove the annoying character stat building mechanism. Stat is now only granted from equipment, how amazing and creative, isn't it? In addition, this game adopts the perfect RPG gaming style of Skyrim, i.e. explore first, just forget the plot, which removes player's frustration to recall memory about the main quest and story line. This is just like a great and sincere invitation to all COD fans and action gamers, as well as any potential causal gamers. It caters for the taste of all gamers around the world via greatly enhancing its accessibility. It is a master of everything rather than a jerk of all trade. This is a game for everyone!
You may worry about that the return of the old-school tactical view from the mediocre DA:Origins may ruin your fantastic game play experience. Don't worry about that, it is just implemented for those hardcore players for their happiness in pausing the game all the time, breaking the pace of combat. This game can be handled easily by controlling your own character only under an action game style. The tactics setting of companion is simplified to an user friendly level for further accessibility. In contrast to DA: Origins, you can’t set up some complicated tactics for your companions, but this is unnecessary anyway. Friendly fire is disabled by default, so just forget your companions, and let them either fight or fall. You can handle fights easily by charging upfront and having high reflex in right timing of attack, dodge and button mashing. You can enjoy a fluid flow of combat all the time!
Overall, by removing the complexity and annoyance from old-school RPG, adding the best elements from 2 most famous modern RPGs, and introducing an exciting button mashing combat mechanics to the game, this game has reached the highest height of RPGs that none in the world could ever reach. This is a milestone of RPG development, and should be referred to in future development of RPGs. Today is an important day that marks the beginning of revolution in RPG history! A new era of RPG has come! From now on, we can step forwards and forget about all classic RPGs in the old-school days. Everyone, express your praise and gratitude towards our beloved developers, and join us to have fun in this master piece of art now!
In case if there are expansions or sequels for this gift from god, which are highly probable considering how successful this game is, we really hope that first-person shooting mode, QTEs and the mechanism of climbing tower to reveal map can be implemented. This will further induces passion from every gamers, because these elements are universally regarded by every gamer as the best features that have ever existed in shooter and action games!
By the way, I am looking forwards to see at least 1000 DLCs for this game, because its scope is so huge, and with so much potential to further expand on. Don't keep us waiting, our wallets are ready! We hope that our beloved developers will listen to our suggestion and request, and release the DLCs and expansions ASAP for us. ![]()
An Updated List Of Studios EA Has Bought And Then Shut Down
(Who's next to be added to the list? Bioware, perhaps?)
Maxis lasted 15 years.
What people keep ignoring is that Studios die all the time, and being bought out probably keeps them alive longer than they would have lasted. Also, while some were quick closes, others lasted over a decade.
How many game studios last longer than 10-15 years? Not many.
@Tobyjake, sounds like that guy really likes the game! ![]()
I do want to say that Bioware are the only company producing AAA tiles that I adore. Now I know this game has it's problems on PC and I can only speak for myself here, but I have had very FEW problems with this game. It's never crashed or run poorly even before the patches. Do I think the inventory screen is god awful? Yes. Do I think the Tac-Cam is basic to point of being useless? Yeah, kinda. Do I think they have handled the patches pretty badly? Yes. Is the game weaker when playing a melee class? God, yes.
However.. For me this game is incredible overall and only short of being one of my favourite games ever because of the issues I stated above. It's still an incredible achievement and I do feel we are getting a little carried away in our Bioware hate. I sill love them as a company and even though they have to bow down to the corporate monkeys that are E.A, they still produce the games I want to play.
Sorry, just wanted to air that.
Seriously, though... that inventory system. Whoever decided to implement that on the PC needs a slap.

Yeah, well, maxis should have been put down before they released the last sim city, that would've been more merciful....
CTDs while accessing the inventory screen. That's a new addition to the CTD selection.
No; the old Tac-Cam had that feature; the new one offers routing and advanced intel on targeted opponents. Am hoping to get all of it someday.
Right there is where one of two things become clear: either the inner troll in you is unmasked, or you are making a fool out of yourself.
Seriously, if trolling was not your intention, this is one of the stupidest things I've read in a forum in a long time. Not even the lamest of marketers would say something as idiotic as this. No offense.
Right there is where this thread loses another poster to the growing Ignore list on account. Pls feel free to follow suit. No offense.
Wait, what? There is an ignore list? Please tell me how it works, I would love to add you to that list.

Its been pretty hilarious to follow this thread and the bizarre back and forth.

Oh how I miss Bullfrog and Westwood! I've never played more comical games than theme hospital and dungeon keeper and I have fond memories of Red Alert! ^^

And the maxis Division is back. The Sims 4 is EA/Maxis so, they are back. Kind of makes that one a bad example, unless you are pointing out that studios EA bought can potentially survive a long time, all be it with changes and restructuring.

By the time ME4 comes out they probably figure out how to make games for PC with Frostbite and hopefully the current stability and performance issues wont be present at all. But gameplay? We dont know much but there are already hints it will be far from what made ME good (sharing systems with Inquisition, emphasis on random exploration and such. Get ready to collect 50/50 "space object" or the different mako-s as core of the gameplay). They obviously disregard keyboard and mouse, and as they say youll be spending a lot of time controling the mako. This is the weak point. The point when they have the opportunity to f.k up even a shooter port. It might become the equivalent of the tac-cam disappointment in ME. If i didnt have PC and mmo experience and i played this on console id share your opinion. But its obvious, if you own a PC, stay away from Bioware from now on.
They finally added the option to zoom the tac-cam and you can do it in the menu? Instead with mousewheel, which does nothing? Seriously? PC game development expertise anywhere? Same goes for the mouse look and right mouse button while in it. Nah, man, just leave it at that.

The gaming industry makes the insurance and oil industry look like saints. Dear Maker... we need a revolution. Don't call on Congress... they'll just muck it up even further.

@AlyssaFaden, quite true. I shall henceforth be known as "lead wallet" as pertains to EA. Then again I have never pre-ordered anything, ever and certainly have no intention to start. I did however run like a bunny to the store on release day to get my CD copy (since my internets is cr@p).
Well, maybe it's a working tactic as EA seems to be closing the SIM Studio.

I am on record of stating this before.
It is not EA. It is the lead designer and his boss who designed and created this monstrosity.
Together they designed this, got approval from EA to instigate this release.
They designed this for consoles. But the design was flawed, then they had to add PC into the mix. They got very greedy!
But that would never work. To make PC work they would have to re-design it, then they ran out of time.
Release it anyway, put the complaints into a locked forum. We got GOTY!! Yay
Ah... but who hired the lead designer? Was it the guy who said console games are too hard to learn?
Yeah I do agree with all of that, but I still like the game a lot and would still go out tomorrow and buy the next Bioware game. Apart that Shadow Realm one. That looked horrendous and thankfully they cancelled it. It is just such a shame they cannot seem to grasp the importance of keeping PC gameplay separate from consoles rather then attempting parity with them.
Just no Bioware.
Respect the differences of the control schemes I say!!
A ton of buttons vs. few buttons
The precision of a mouse vs. thumbstick (auto-aim)
Close to the screen for overview and details vs. far away needing BIG stuff to see
Really, it's not rocket science, so why do developers keep getting it wrong? Bioware most of all should know how to make great PC controls and UI, instead of for instance this horrifying inventory screen ![]()
Well, my guess is that you'd have to redo pretty much every interior (even slightly) for them to not look like a giant glitch. If the tac cam was part of the initial plan (and not just put in there in the last minute, like the action bar) this would have been done during developpement.
Hm.. since the game design was for a console action game and even Darrah mentioned he liked to play with a console controller in "action mode", I believe you are correct.

This is the other half of what's wrong with AAA gaming these days. These utter garbage game review sites.
What BIG PATCH?!? Like this is some major step forward for PCs
What "improvements in the areas of gameplay and stability"
They posted this within minutes of the patch and without testing at all...they couldn't have tested because there are only the very slightest improvements if any...
Even the patch list is just a copy-paste of the incomplete one posted first....

It seems likely that the PC improvements are simply not a priority. I think that's the most reasonable explanation for the excessively long dev time and the numerous delays on the seemingly trivial issues.
Laidlaw is on record saying that Multiplayer will be supported...... no mention about SP. My take is MP support = console support.
Just had a look at DA2. Haven't played it for quite some time. It is light years ahead of this travesty.
Click on a companion and the char menu appears. Look at tactics. All there.
Was never happy with DA2's hair but pfft!
Everything else is at your fingertips! DA2 was supposed to be rushed, but DAI was 4 years in the making????
I suppose it took that long to remove all the PC stuff.
LOL!!
The last line is just beautiful...

There are some of the Gamespot staff I think are fantastic
But yes this article is rushed and unfinished, it's not even the entire patch list.
Seems to be Gamespot in a nutshell these days. They don't even have a PC review for Inquisition yet. They only played it on the PS4/XONE with a controller, then named it Game of the year and slapped a 9 / 10 on it without even mentioning the PC version ![]()
