Sigh. So after the performance improvements the game actually runs worse on my admittedly less-than-stellar laptop. Prior to Patch 5 I could have a decent-looking game that limped along at a playable 20-30 FPS but since the patch I'm getting FPS spiking as low as the mid-teens no matter how low I set the graphics sliders.

Guess I need to try and re-optimise from the ground up all over again...

Which version of Windows do you have installed?

So my question is this: Who makes such a dumb decision? Someone who REALLY DO NOT HAVE A CLUE, that's who.

Yes this is the problem. Someone who knows nothing about creating a game or a PC game has taken over decisions. The difference between DAO and everything that followed is night and day and down to poor poor leadership, poor artistic vision (in my view) and decision making. For every improvement they made they stripped out huge swaths of RPG gaming!

I suspect zooming out the Tac cam would break consoles? Need more GPU to do this effectively? It is a bit better of course with a wider view but still handicapped in every other way...movement, collisions, etc.

Personally I wouldn't care if I had to wait 6 months more for them to work on this game...if they just held their hands up and said so; no problem! I think they know that and the plain fact that they have not committed to anything asked for by the PC community...just mealy mouthed "we'll look into it"...means that this is all we'll get.

They are more interested in fixing exploits than anything else. Even more so than fixing the glaring game bugs (objects you can't interact with that you should be able to etc.) So fixing UI and controls for PC is simply not on their radar.

It would take some real journalism from some of the big review sites for them to rethink but since this is never going to happen....

Sadly so....

And what do we do in response to this?

I'm never going to take a dev studio at their word ever again, I know I've said that... um, twice before, and at the time I meant it, I also mean it this time, but sooner or later... only time will tell if I can actually stick to my guns. maybe I should try superglue.

Apologies if this was discussed, but since the patch, (which reset all my graphic settings) I have not been able to create a new character

with scars. Has anyone else reported the issue?  I had to dumb down the graphic settings so my PC would play the game without running

in molasses mode. Does anyone know which graphic setting affects the CC? The only setting I have maxed is the Mesh, which I was told,

affected the hair texture.

Thanks in advance!

Yep.

Most of the time, when issues are made evident and needs fixing, I'm pretty confident that the developers can get it done without much of an issue. And most of the times, they do. Because they know their game code inside out, right?

Take Ubisoft, for example: There are many things I don't like about them as a company, but they know how to fix a broken game, and quickly! And you never doubt their ability to deliver.

My experience with Bioware and DAI is that they really struggle to support their own game. There are some really basic flaws in this game and things everyone seem to agree on. To use a worn out example, the "Skyhold outfit".

A trigger must be in place that says "As soon as the player character enters Skyhold, hide/unequip all armor and weapons".

Everyone hates the Skyhold outfit! It is a stupid design choice.

So all the devs have to do is remove that trigger and Viola! You don't lose your dignity when you go home! Everyone's happy!

But STILL they have not fixed this even after all the rukkus about it. WHY???

The only explanation is that they may not even know how...And as a result of this "apparent" inability of devs to fix and tweak this game as necessary, I have lost confidence in their technical ability. Even their ability to create good design elements are questioned and this is why they need US to do their Beta testing for them: Because apparently, they have no idea what to do to fix this game for the PC.

So yes, whatever they have to say will mean absolutely NOTHING until they produce the evidence of it.

scars/freckles/hair is attached to the shader quality setting at the very bottom of the graphics settings.  It is no longer attached to mesh settings.

Inquisition is massive too. LOADS of mmo collection system. My guess is ME4 will be a carbon copy of Inquisition but with guns and mako.Plus possibly 50% of your companions will be gay. At least.

If ME4's Massive = Exploration, with a mako, then I definitely agree that ME4 will be Inquisitionesque. A true travesty. To move the game along, quests neeed meaningful purpose. Grinding, as DAI shows, becomes uninteresting very soon with no replay value. It also means that MASSIVE will dilute the core game play hours as it requires less word budget = less voice acting = reduced costs = hope of better profits.

I'm on the lookout for ME4's marketing's  Mike Laidlaw equivalent and will parse word sentences with a "truth" filter. Unfortunate'y, I fear very little will come through.

"Lowest common denominator ", yeah not only controls and UI have been designed to cater as big a crowd as possible, but also plenty of RPG features have become too laid back in my opinion.

Origins had a lot of RPG to it, while Inquisition seems more like an action platformer in many regards. But I guess it sells better this way  <_<

Futureshop is selling DAI at a discount again, with 20% off retail price.

The only reason why I bought DA:I close to launch (a week or so afterwards) was because it had the Bioware name attached to it. I hang my head in shame that I allowed BW to overshadow "EA," because I should have known better.

well, I should thank Bio for converting me to Bioware Doubting Sartoz. An unheard of Special Achievemnt.

Evolve's actually fun, in small doses. The big thing right now is Homeworld remastered, dat gameplay and difficulty straight from the early 2000

The performance of this HD game is quite staggering, given my lowly RD 7770.

Were I profondément pathétique or lengthily imprisoned I think the appeal of this game would suddenly brighten.  Maybe.  Wouldn't bet actual cash on that, however.

Your profondément pathétique = french keyboard or the ol'e ALT=0233 ?

Just curious

... Sorry, or two (as in: "when they launch Patch 6")

Bio's DAI maintenance team probably have missing PC skills = KB+M coding experience. In nay case, their marching orders come from management and I doubt a proper PC input device control scheme is in their sight.

I think you are correct. Some of that is due to using the engine they did, and that one is on EA. Some, I think is also because of the Keep having issues and part of the team having to work on that. Some is time, whether the Bioware division or EA higher ups they seem to have a very aggressive schedule for patches. Look at Patch 5 notes - they pushed things out even knowing it still needed work. That tells me they had to do it, or are trying a bit too hard to appease the players one. (If the later I hope they settle down and just do it right - we can wait another week or two if that means it's right when we get it.)

The straw that broke the back for me was actually a Creative Assembly title: Rome II. The sheer unadulterated hype that went into the months before that premature release was staggering, and the release itself a shadow of former titles. I truly felt suckered. So I started reevaluating what titles I pre-order or purchase close to release date and I started watching the hype leading up to game releases, the promises, the "exclusive content," the incentives ... and then what actually happened at launch.

Rome 2 was a shocking launch, still remember the magic flags, useless AI, insane end turn times (5-10 minutes waiting for next turn was nuts), unbelievable instability, horrid balancing, hell the list could go on.

One thing though - CA acknowledged all of them and they had nothing against pulling back unpopular features, nor did they fear their vocal community when it came to fan/dev interaction. R2:EE was free for those who got screwed on release.

There are still issues with CA's DLC whoring, but Attila Total War, from my experience, has really redeemed the franchise for me. At least you don't have to worry about TW being console ports either.

I'm quite forgiving and leave room for companies to re-earn my trust if I'm going to fork out my cash. What EA is doing with DAI however, is just shocking. I endorse BW's efforts and attempts to reconnect with fans and fix the game, but with the team's relocation straight after release to new projects leaving a skeleton crew along with the huge amount of problems/non-moddability... nah, EA/BW is now on the blacklist. I don't blame the team although with the game's direction since DA2 (which Brent Knowles wrote about and left, when he realised DA2 was going to be ME gameplay in the DA universe - not an RPG he would like to play let alone develop), and the obvious lack of KB+M players within the company (if they even exist now)... meh

R2 didn't screw me up the way DAI did, thanks to both dedicated post-release support as well as mods such as STIM. It's also still PC-exclusive, which is a plus for KB+M gamers like me.

... Sorry, or two (as in: "when they launch Patch 6")

A month or two? I'm expecting more late 2015 or early 2016 with the skeleton crew EA has dedicated to DAI's post-release support.

I moved on to Attila: Total War myself. Also alot of anticipated releases this year.

The directx crash is a flaw in the frostbite engine itself. It was one of the many issues that that plagued BF4 when it was released. It is still effecting BF4 today. I was not able to make the connection tell I reinstalled BF4  and ran into the same crash again. Also, there are several threads dedicated to the issue on the EA Answer HQ.

http://answers.ea.co...on/td-p/1915085

The fact that BF4 came out in 2013 and the issue is still present today give me little hope that it will ever be corrected in DA:I.

If truly true, then ME4 will suffer similar crash events....

Stop buying pre-orders folks. Really. That right there will change the industry. I mean, when you pre-order why would a studio waste time in releasing a perfect game - when they already have your money?

We also have short memories. I bet most of you who swear never to believe a studio again (or buy a pre-order) will be right back next year with your wallet in hand.

Depends on the pre-release info. Have pre-ordered DA2, Skyrim, SWTOR, and DAI, and waited for further intel on ME3, and obtained it and DLC at a later date.

I agree to vote with your wallets; that means both Yay and Ney....

my entire gaming history, I've only pre-ordered twice. Skyrim was the first, DA:I was the second... and the last.

To be fair, I will chime in by saying I will never pre-order from Bioware again. In fact, I intend to never even buy anything from them again.

But I've pre-ordered The Witcher 3 and CD projeckt RED has not let me down yet, so any future decision about them depends on the quality of the game, comes May.

However, I also understand the principle of the gaming industry at large depending on pre-orders which results in them producing half-finished, poor quality games because why go the extra mile when they can exploit customer faith in their brand? This seems to be a very deliberate strategy EA is following for short-term gain.

What worries me is that people are now losing faith in Bioware and what will happen when they under-perform with their next title? EA will simply toss them out for the dogs, and move on to their next exploit.
