The straw that broke the back for me was actually a Creative Assembly title: Rome II. The sheer unadulterated hype that went into the months before that premature release was staggering, and the release itself a shadow of former titles. I truly felt suckered. So I started reevaluating what titles I pre-order or purchase close to release date and I started watching the hype leading up to game releases, the promises, the "exclusive content," the incentives ... and then what actually happened at launch.
Rome 2 was a shocking launch, still remember the magic flags, useless AI, insane end turn times (5-10 minutes waiting for next turn was nuts), unbelievable instability, horrid balancing, hell the list could go on.
One thing though - CA acknowledged all of them and they had nothing against pulling back unpopular features, nor did they fear their vocal community when it came to fan/dev interaction. R2:EE was free for those who got screwed on release.
There are still issues with CA's DLC whoring, but Attila Total War, from my experience, has really redeemed the franchise for me. At least you don't have to worry about TW being console ports either.
I'm quite forgiving and leave room for companies to re-earn my trust if I'm going to fork out my cash. What EA is doing with DAI however, is just shocking. I endorse BW's efforts and attempts to reconnect with fans and fix the game, but with the team's relocation straight after release to new projects leaving a skeleton crew along with the huge amount of problems/non-moddability... nah, EA/BW is now on the blacklist. I don't blame the team although with the game's direction since DA2 (which Brent Knowles wrote about and left, when he realised DA2 was going to be ME gameplay in the DA universe - not an RPG he would like to play let alone develop), and the obvious lack of KB+M players within the company (if they even exist now)... meh
R2 didn't screw me up the way DAI did, thanks to both dedicated post-release support as well as mods such as STIM. It's also still PC-exclusive, which is a plus for KB+M gamers like me.
... Sorry, or two (as in: "when they launch Patch 6")
A month or two? I'm expecting more late 2015 or early 2016 with the skeleton crew EA has dedicated to DAI's post-release support.
I moved on to Attila: Total War myself. Also alot of anticipated releases this year.
