With pre-ordering, when it comes to my retailer, I can pre-order but if launch turns out to be **   can get a refund for the deposit and put it towards something else, as I did with Thief 4.

There's only a limited window for it however, and once registered they won't refund (using Steam, Origin has 24 hour window). I didn't get a refund for R2, I just used mods, besides I trusted CA to fix the game, and their post-release support was fine. I SHOULD have got a refund for DAI, but I foolishly trusted BW and underestimated EA's grip on the company and it was too late by then. I pre-ordered Attila: Total War but didn't pick it up until I read reviews/etc, as I knew I could get refund as long as I didn't pick it up (like Thief 4 I mentioned), but with great user reviews, promised features actually working, the game being a solid release, I decided to give it a go, and was pleasantly surprised.

I pre-ordered Civilisation: Beyond Earth but got a refund using the method I described, and hence I avoided the disappointment as a SMAC fan.

Pre-ordering doesn't mean they have your money ;) If you are using a retailer for physical copies at least...

Had I not had a few really good experience working with EA (not as an employee but on technical issues) about other games, and had a good experience with some of the devs and tech people over there, I would probably more critical of Bioware Division now. Call me crazy but, I know there are a few good people left at EA and in the Bioware division too. I'm holding out hope that those people can still make the Dragon Age franchise, which I enjoy very much, work and succeed.

I don't expect DAI to be like DAO or DA2 but, I do expect it to improve greatly over the next 8 months. I'm willing to give it a year before I decide if my trust in the franchise is destroyed or just a bit dented - right now dented but, testing and things that are happening are getting a few dents out, so right direction. We'll see in 8 months, where the game is.

Curious as to the eight months; does this have significance in development?

DAA is the only product I have had to shelve until patched correctly, and cannot recall having to wait that long a time.

I find I don't really blame Bioware, nor EA... I blame the entire industry, and us the players who allowed the industry to sink so low. it's gotten to the point where we can no longer expect quality products from this industry, and we still seem to buy blindly.

---edit
that doesn't mean I'm not angry, I am, very, very angry... they lied to my face, and I bought it, hook, line and sinker.

Interesting...

Do you think they will keep working on improvements for the game up to 8 months from now? If so, there may still be hope, but that figure sounds VERY optimistic to me.

I play other EA games and, patches on those rolled out even 2 and 3 years after release so, yes I do think a year working on DAI is realistic. After that, no unless they do a full expansion in that time.

Your profondément pathétique = french keyboard or the ol'e ALT=0233 ?

Just curious

French layout.  I have several - Irish, UK, Canadian French. Oddly, no US layout.  Don't know how 'Muricans get by without fadas and 'ou''s.  Madness.

I've pre-ordered one game in my life and that was ME3.  Lesson learned and learned completely on the first go.  Personally, burn me once and it tends to set in rather quickly that fire very likely does that every time.

Uh... d'uh?

I'm still calling the next ME as a BF4 clone, with a tiny 'single player' as tutorial and massive multiplayer. We all know EA hates SP.  Can't milk SP like MP.  It's an eff-ton easier and cheaper to recolour some guns than it is to create new characters and storylines.  Don't need to NDA-beta-test maps, a camo-gun pack, camo-body armour or new vehicle with camo (in some parts of Canada, camo is the new casual wear of choice). Cheap, assembly-line-crap-easy.  Path of least resistance to one's bank account.

There's no point in doing anything story-driven as EA's writers only ever had one actual story and they used it for both franchises.  Inquisition is basically ME, DA:II is a slightly reordered ME:2 and ME:3 was Origins.  Swap settings and boom - new franchise!  Same ol' same ol', tried and true.  A Shepard by any other name.

On the bright side - for EA at least - most people don't really give a crap about story any more.

Start a thread discussing story elements - say about the implications both of the existence of the Veil and the Fade and what repercussions ripping them open will have in the future - ...and it usually pretty much instantly degenerates into my waifu/husbando cretinous masturbatory exercises (haven't seen anyone's analysis of an elf's sweat chemical composition yet, though.  Small favours I suppose.) or the outrage that Dorian wasn't quite precisely gay enough or that Sera was weird (shades of 'Jack would be hawt without hair/ink' shallowness) or "Eff stoopid weird-head Solas for not liking Elfy Mawster Race" or "I am offended by - insert lame nonsense here".

Go here, shoot this, survive wave, win slight variation of gun or scope, rinse, repeat.  $29.99 for three maps, four guns and a drone which you can call 'Wilson' or 'Boo', 'Squirtles', 'Sparklespony' or 'HughLeetPeen13lo!'.

Money in the bank.

Oh - and EA has until around May to fix this game.  Then it's pretty much over for DA:I save only for the diehards and apologists.

Stop buying pre-orders folks. Really. That right there will change the industry. I mean, when you pre-order why would a studio waste time in releasing a perfect game - when they already have your money?

We also have short memories. I bet most of you who swear never to believe a studio again (or buy a pre-order) will be right back next year with your wallet in hand.

Bought ME2 based on reviews for ME1. Did not buy ME1 because of its draconian DRM. Pre-ordered ME3 based on my experience with ME2. Pre-ordered DAI based on my experience with DAO + DA2. My experience with DAI + ME3 however, cancelled all thoughts about pre-ordering Bio games. Also, my application of a truth filter will automatically divert Bio snake-oil sales spiel to the SPAM bucket.

I shall apply the virtue of Patience before contemplating a potential buy decision which will be based upon reading early game reviews from actual gamers AND further wait for the inevitable patches. There is no need to buy a game the moment it becomes available for release.

As many problems as I've had with not only Bioware but other EA games as well, I'll keep preordering them. I'm either a virtual masochist or totally addicted to beta testing or, a bit of both I think LOL

Maybe I'm one of the few that can adapt to a degree and is willing to play with a few bugs, and, I do so enjoy laughing at the silly ones that sneak into games. :)

Avoiding Spoilers may be a factor involved with waiting; could not avoid the chatter of ME3 conclusions, so watched them on Youtube. I was fine with the ones that applied to my Paragon choices, and acquired it later with the updated DLC versions.

Spoilers never bother me... actually I see them as potential buy decisions...

Varies for me. Things like the ME3 conclusions are fine generally, but will try and avoid certain secrets and reveals of importance (eg; KOTOR).

DAA is the only product I have had to shelve until patched correctly, and cannot recall having to wait that long a time.

More experience with other EA titles. All of the major changes and improvements are made in the first year, the bulk in the first six months. Then minor patches but, if they do a full expansion, we may see patches for even longer.

DAI team is doing smaller stuff first, so I'm hoping 2-3 more little patches, then the big issues get tackled. I assume that's because of it being a new engine for them so, the big things take a bit more time to work out.

Some things I don't expect to change to my liking - the PC UI for one. Some changes may be made but, not anything big I don't think. Controls same, little things but, nothing major there either.

I don't expect the DX crash to ever be 100% fixed for everyone. Yeah I got it stopped for me, and many others but, some people will still have that crash at least occasionally for as long as they play the game. Too many different companies and factors play into that one, a 100% across the board fix just isn't going to happen before it's on to DA4. I do however expect DA4 to either be free of that crash on Frostbite or, built on an engine that does not present that problem.

Have you EVEN played ME3 to begin with?

Because I'm still trying to wrap my mind on how the hell you're comparing a 3rd-person sci-fi space shooter with a 1st person Real-Life FPS. Not to talk about comparing the ME3 SP (which is the main focus of the game) plus it's mostly token - exclusively horde-based MP with BF4, which is the complete opposite of that (MP-centered and token SP).

If you had to earn your money by being a game reviewer, you'd be in your bones by now.

Not here, as far as I know, and game version hasn't changed.

Still, a hotfix for the Amulets of Power bug would be....more than I expect from them :P

I logged into my Origin account and checked for updates and had a small update today, so I was just wondering if maybe it was a hotfix for something.

Well, if you can find any Amulet of Power on chests, please do let me know :(

Although, as I said, no updates for me AFAIK.

On chests, not from War Table missions. It's supposeadly a major bug introduced in Patch 5.

Try looking for Varric's amulet in Valammar, or Cassandra's in the Mire (I searched for that last one, and didn't find it).

I assume yours are brand new, Patch 5-created savegames?

I suggest you to make a rush to Cassandra's one...I screwed it up and didn't checked all the houses before deleting the savegames. Here's a video on how to get there directly:

(Here).

Varric's amulet location is also in that video, but Cassandra's is way faster.

Yes it is, but THIS UPDATE (Origin updated too) won't load my DAI game now! wtf...
