Unfortunately your words are wasted on ignorant, Sartoz.  :(

Looks like they are filled with hatred and anger and makes everyone sad.

Well... sometimes I just can't help it. I expected too much

Well, I'd answer, but I'm afraid to now.  Have no idea what may be construed as inappropriate. A warning point now for 'language'...somewhere on the forum...  it's too bad the warning was so vague and the posts deleted before I had a chance to amend anything.

Don't worry about the warnings. Mods here are more delicate with their little feelings than Heidi without Prozac.

That said, I'm sorry to say new Patch 5 games also seems affected by the bug, according to an EA support post :/

There was another game that had been released with huge number os bugs, glitchs and problems of all types, the game was Vampire the bloodlines. But, the history, the ambient, the characteres were so strong and well created that despite the poor program construction and all the software misconstruction the game became a legend ...

That was a stellar job ...

DA:I didnt achieve such a thing ...

Which bug? What post?

Should I abandon my Amulet Hunt in my new patch 5 save?

I'm no programmer, and I'm fully aware coding a game must be a crazy difficult job, but shouldn't there be some way of creating something in such a way that it'd be difficult to screw something up when you fix anything else?

Don't know, just giving ideas. Modular programming or something.

Were you in an amulet hunt? :D

Well, anyway, the more feedback about the bug the better, I'd say. Just remember to post where you obtained (or failed to obtain) the amulet, and if your savegames are pre-patch 5 or if you began anew after the patch was released.

My point, DA, was that an expectation of a years worth of patching to bring the game up to 'par' level for a true AAA release is... mind boggling.

My mentions of expansions and DLC was to make very clear that these are the only "non minor bug fixing" items acceptable after release. Patches that correct bugs that crop up after release (due to graphics drivers issues, unforeseen continuity breaks, exploits in MP, game balance issues...) are fine.

Launching a game as broken as DA:I is if you're not playing a human of who cares what age with no scars, shiny lips and glossy hair is unacceptable. The sheer amount of clear bugs that the team was aware of at launch is not acceptable. The expectation that it could be a year before a player can play a male elf or a scarred character without fear of disgusting display issues is unacceptable. A worse than previous releases in the franchise tac cam, ui and ai is most assuredly, without a doubt un-bloody-acceptable!

Being willing to wait an entire year for these issues to be fixed? Not an acceptable expectation of EAWare to have, and yet you have no problem suggesting you are fine to wait that long which implies others that don't are somehow unreasonable. That's the issue I had with it. I think you're giving them too much slack.

EDIT: To more specifically address my (as opposed to improved via expansions) point:

A patch should only be required to improve a game by removing a glitch, or re-balancing an unintended issue.

An expansion improves a game by adding content.

What we're asking EAWare for is, frankly, a repair for a broken game. For the functionality promised during to marketing to actually be there. We're asking them to finish the game they launched prior to completing. This isn't a patch or an expansion issue. It's a "building the game" issue.

Indeed, good male and/or female human person.  As to your amulet difficulty, I am playing a new character and have so far not encountered your difficulty. It is my considered opinion (that is entirely mine and is in no way endorsed by EA, its subsidiaries or its employees or their families) that any current save can be discombobulated by the latest patch if you have more than one Inquisitor in your save folder.

I am very, very, very sorry if I have in any way given offence either by using words or putting them in their appropriate places within an English language sentence structure.  Also, if you are perchance an illiterate (congratulations for being here at all), seven years of age or a nun, I apologize for words with either too many syllables, too many foreign/commie/terrorist-appearing letters or anything that might offend in any way your deity or delusion. Please forgive any fadas or umlauts you may encounter as I have no control over those.  Please contact either the Irish or German embassies to complain.

In closing let me just say, winkles grunties then vibraphone and wankle rotary engines to you all.

Maybe I don't see the same things as broken. Take the UI and KBM controls, sure they could be improved but, they work and are not difficult to learn to use. Tac cam needs work and, that's being done. They said mouse binding would come later.

To me could be improved does not equal broken. The game runs and plays fine, just not as customizable as I want, and doesn't have all of the things I'd like to see in the game.

As for AAA games being patched on for a year or more, yeah 4 of the six I play were patched on for at least a year and 3 of those are EA games so, to me a year of patches isn't bad.

This bird is dead! It is deceased, fallen off its perch, expired!

No, it's not. It's just sleeping!!

To those unfamiliar with Monty Python, that is a paraphrase of a very famous sketch. Palin is the shopkeeper and Cleese is the guy returning a dead parrot!

DAI takes the place of the parrot.

I ran into this before, when application managers failed to enforce basic coding practices. It also requires the game's architect and designer (s) to ensure that global variables ( ie: Amulets of Power) don't suddenly become local variables (ie: satus known to a local coding routine but fails to communicate the status globally). This can lead to missing Amulets or so called exploits..)...

By the Maker, you're right! I'm not saying the game isn't a parrot... it IS a parrot, but dammit I bought a parrot to talk to me, and eat, and perch... and this one just lies there stone cold broken. Sure... it technically IS still a parrot... but such technicalities only ensure I won't buy a bird from the same vendor in the future.

When I am sold a product and I am told it can do something and it does not do this thing as claimed, it is broken. Apple Maps is an example. You're saying that because the product could be launched, an address entered, and a course plotted to a destination means it works but could be improved upon. No. It's broken when the course plotted is wrong, the address it steers me too is not the one I entered, and when entire cities are suddenly sunken holes.

When I purchase a car and pay for the full suite of options, a/c, power windows and locks, keyless entry and ignition, remote starter, Sirius satellite radio, rear view cam, and gps... I expect all of these options and I expect them to work as advertised. When I get a car and my a/c randomly stops working sometimes, and my rear window won't roll down, and my driver side door won't unlock, and my remote starter only works when I'm 3 feet away, my radio gets no signal even though my neighbour's does, and my rear view cam is black and white, and the gps uses Apple Maps as the source... I'ma consider that damn car broken. Sure it has 4 wheels and an engine. But it isn't damn well what I paid for, and the dealership refusing to let me return it because the damn thing didn't break until I had driven it 10 km off the lot (no returns if you drive for more than 5 km!) doesn't make it less broken.

And some promises about their mechanics fixing it, possibly for up to a year with warranty(!), isn't making it better. Especially since when my remote starter stopped working I brought it in for a patch...errr, I mean tune up, and when I got it back my trunk wouldn't open. So when I asked them to fix that they told me they'd get to it, but they'd fix my fuel injection because I was getting better than advertised mileage when driving alone and that couldn't do... so they broke the calibration and accidentally somehow smashed my side mirrors... they don't know how they did, but hope to fix that when they fix my steering.

You wouldn't stand for that, yet you'll stand with EAWare when they do it to us all.

Myself, I just see it as a console port. Console ports work too! The whole "by PC gamers for PC gamers" marketing BS just raised the expectations too high.

If I knew it was to be a console port I'd rather wait until it's done, not be released and then have features shoehorned and may not even make it to the final build.

KOTOR/JE were console ports but I loved them, sure I bought them on sale years after release, but my expectations were managed. In DAI however I was decieved.

Even I would have been forgiving if it didn't take 3 months for a walk toggle, which ended up inferior to a mod that was available after 1 month - which also includes hold functions, including jogging, and support for the FPS workaround PC players were using to deal with FPS lock of the console port. Also, using R2's launch as an example, which was a disaster at launch, 3 months the game already addressed a ton of issues.

I just see EA at work here, and Bioware being suffocated by their master's grip. Ton of marketing, budget post-release support.

I may pause my playthrough until the amulets are hotfixed/patched.

It is annoying.

I think I'll just leave the chests that are supposed to have amulets unlooted (and not kill any dragons), and hopefully they patch it before I need to do the Winter Palace (it's coming up soon, though) and the amulets will be there when I go back.

Neither of Dorian's amulets in the Western Approach are dropping, Varric's in Valammar isn't there, and I was doing a quick run through the Winter Palace and noticed that Vivienne's didn't spawn either. Other people have noted that none of the dragon ones drop anymore, both of Cassandra's are gone, and the player amulet from the Fade doesn't drop despite being the main reward for the quest.

If they don't do a hot fix (which seems like a definite possibility, since it's not a PC-only issue this time), I may end up needing to wait for the next patch (presumably sometime next month) to continue playing. I won't be very happy about it.

No apology needed - like "Varric", we all have one or two and, no two of us will agree 100% of the time. If I couldn't take a bit of disagreement, I'd stay out of this thread. Still thank you and, apology accepted. :)

I am old school and remember when games first came out on old computers.   Games were tested much more when we had floppies, They cost to much to have them patched. So when you bought something, it generally worked well.   Heroes of Might and Magic Xeen had four CD's when it was released, It was one of the first CD games I bought, and I do not remember having any issues with it. just seems the more modern games and gaming companies make products that are not acceptable.  SO much so that I started table top game night again with a group of old folks like me.

I hate to sort of burst your bubble here, because it is a pleasant thought...but when games were restricted to floppies they were an order of magnitude more simple in every way, and a very good reason they weren't patched often is because through 1990 (maybe even as late as '95) the Internet was extremely immature if it existed at all in your neck of the woods, and 14.4k class (even 56k) modems were incredibly slow by today's standards.  I got plenty of patches in those days--floppies sent through the US snail mail--which could take days if not weeks sometimes.  It was not only expensive, it was also very slow, but the size of games-that-fit-on-a-floppy was itself very small compared to current multi-gigabyte installed game sizes (undreamed of in those days.)  Games weren't better: just far smaller & less complex, with far less content. Hence, less patching was required as games were easier to troubleshoot, and when they came at all patches were very small compared to what happens today.
