I'd say this thread just ought to die. What hasn't been said?
I'd say not to post in threads you don't care about, instead of saying "IM NOT INTERESTED IN THIS SO IT MUST BE CLOSED!".
I still remember before the internet when patches had to come through magazines like PC gamer/PC powerplay etc,
What. ![]()
What.
It's true. PC magazines had those CD's included with patches, utils, etc.....I still remember installing the latest DirectX version of that time from one of them, in order to get my Matrox G200 to work.
Ahhh, those were the times... ![]()

What hasn't been said? Where do I begin...
BioWere hasn't said "Sorry PC gamers we messed up! We're on it, PC gaming is our roots, our heart and soul and we'll sort DAI out for PC ASAP. Thanks for the feedback."
They haven't said "Rough timeline for changes to improve PC gaming experience( subject to change of course) is..."
They haven't said "OK so here is what we will be fixing in the upcoming patches:..."
They haven't said "OK, so we will not be making changes to:..."
There is a hell of a lot that hasn't been said quite frankly!
I'd say this thread just ought to die. What hasn't been said?
Should the thread die or be closed when all of it smacks of pissing into the wind? There are a couple problems with doing that. One being the subjectively optimistic counter perspective to that question - "There's always more to say".
Secondly this thread was already closed a while back. A meager attempt to curtail the violent speech and vitriol. However when the horrifying possibility of the minority PC despots threatened to skew the "sunshine and rainbow" portions of the forum it was reopened. Which I believe took maybe an hour, if that? So we reconstituted into this insular haven. Good fences make for good neighbors. ![]()
I hope that this thread is recalled with dread at future UI design meetings. Rather than the mocking singularity it appears to be to outsiders. For the former reason may this thread live for all eternity.

I can remember loading games with a tape driver and then five-inch floppies. One of the earliest I can recall (other than Pong) was Tanx, or something very similar. I'm rather ancient and the mind wanders....
My fave until Unreal came along was Dark Seed, but mostly for the art. Then Unreal Tournament, which I still play. The new one will boot serious booty. Also shows what can happen when you treat your fans like part of the process instead of brainless money cattle.
I call complete BS. I know for a fact they knew of the issues. What's more, they avoided releasing a demo like they did with DA2 and ME3 specifically because they knew that doing so would crush their bottom line when physical PC pre-orders were cancelled as were all the digital copies.
A demo would have tanked this game's standing sales-wise. Don't try to pretend they didn't know how lousy this was. They crafted a video designed specifically to lie about the shortcomings strictly for sales purposes.
Didn't see these things as issues prior to release... right.
Yeah, for whatever reasons be it avoiding spoilers or corporate tone they need to get back into the practice of releasing demos. Otherwise we are left to speculate on the possibility of deliberate obfuscation. Be it bugs or systems. Another lesson to learn I suppose.
There was a time limited demo though wasn't there? On consoles or maybe I'm misremembering?

Are you saying you did not play DOOM??
Seems like a lot of like minded people in this thread, count me in for C&C and Unreal and I would add original Half-Life (my personal introduction to FPS as I was a hardcore RTS gamer until then).
As for the complexity argument/apology, straw man in my opinion. If game development was easy, well then anybody could do it.
Complexity has risen everywhere in any industry so why single out software development and be apologetic about it or even go to the extent of accepting mediocrity. No. You pays your money, you gets your prize, simple.
Product not ready? Don't ship.
Product crappy? Expect dissent and backlash from your customers.

Oh hell, yeah! Also played Dark Forces in DOS and had a ball. Kinda miss the old arcade days, too. Quarter after quarter...
Memory lane indeed. Grand Prix 2 on DOS consumed me for a good long time!
What.
its true back in the day when the best internet you could get was a 56.6K modem that took 5 minutes to load 1 email if you wanted patches for Unreal 2 or Unreal tournament 2003 you had to buy PC Gamer and get the patch of that months coverdisc

I still rememebr using the BBC computers at primary school with them huge bendy floppy disks
Me last night wearing out the "awesome button". I have a splitting headache today and need a new keyboard.
Nostalgia land!
I remember playing Might and Magic III Isles of Terra on my i386 computer. I don't miss the loading time of 5 1/4 drives.

Thanks for the link! Here's a link to one of my favorite DOS RPGs of all time. Dark Sun Shattered Lands https://archive.org/...-SUNTRNsoftware

Ah, the 56k modem... and that sound. I remember trying to download the DS9 Fallen demo only to get kicked off three bleedin' times. Took three days to get the thing. Terrible game.

Ah them were the days when patching a game actually cost us the consumer money £6 per issue of PC Gamer but then game companies did better QC then I used to use a program on my Amiga 500 called X-Copy to make copies of all my games then sell them for £1 each paid better then a paper round lol
My fave game of old is, has been and always will be Morrowind.
It was the very first game that, after discovering it, it literally dragged me into a full month of strictly:
- Turn on PC.
- Play Morrowind.
- Turn off PC.
- (Repeat).
No e-mail checking, not even that much web browsing. Just plain and pure hookness.
P.D: All these years, and I still wanna burn all the cliff racers to HELL. There's no word on Earth to describe how much I-HATE-THEM!!!!!
Space Invaders or something in black and white, on a dedicated box at my baby sitter's and her drunkard husband's place. I was 1 and a half and therefore don't remember it.
Although I still own the one my parents bought me afterwards...
