Well, it looks like the trigger-happy mod(s) will soon have an excuse to shut this thread down, so completely away from topic has it swung.

I suppose you can only crap on crap so often before it gets boring,

"PC Community Concerns" :?

I think discussing one of the games EAware thought to emulate, and some of the aspects that make that game so great, falls under that heading.

The Skyrim thread in OT has several suggestions as of late; still growing fairly well since pre-release. Also recommend looking at Gopher's Vids for recommendations, tutorials, and the humorous Let's Play series.

My personal fave is Project Reality: Climates of Tamriel. Along with ELFX, these weather and lighting mods enhance the extant beauty of the game indoors and outside of Skyrim.

Thanks

The best thing i EVER did for Skyrim, was install "SkyRe" (Skyrim Redone)... It takes some work to get fully, like Community Uncapper, Reproccer, and some other things, some ini tweaks (and im completely illiterate at these things) but with Gopher's vids, i was able to get through it..

InsanitySorrow also does amazing work!  aMidianborne mods are ALL worth adding for texture replacers for the most detailed, handcrafted armours/weapons anyone can imagine! Just beautiful!

I personally dont do any ENB, lighting, environment mods, as i prefer stable gameplay, and i dont find the lands to be too bad.. But my weapons, armors, and certain things i do prefer to have in HD..Some of the meshes also needed some fixes, and the popular mesh overhaul is a great one.. Name escapes me atm, but you cant miss it.. Its an alltime top download.. But i stuck with the Bethesda 2k texture pack for the rest..The game struggles enough once it hits that 10gig save size anyway.. Dont even bother on console once you hit that size, lol..

Theres so many badass weapon mods... The LotR weapon pack is very nicely done.. Even the Warglaives of Azzinoth, and Frostmourne (if you dont mind lore breaking) along with some very small known (but i love it) mod for the Darksiders 2 weapons, and armor.. Looks exactly like Death from the game.. Dude even made Darksiders 1 (War), and Soul Reaver armors! i could only find it via searching directly for it when i reinstalled the game though.. tough find, but very well done.. He even did the Reaper form for Darksiders 2.

Would it be SMIM ( Static Mesh Improvement Mod) ?

If you are daring and willing to experiment, I do recommend ENB although it may tank your frames.  It adds some features that are not available in the base game engine for instance Mist.

And much better shadowing along with Ambient Occlusion.

nLQSxhE.png

smIxEwW.png

I spent a great deal of my time in Skyrim creating my own post processing shader based on the ENB template and applied my own tone-mapping algos.  Great fun, if you like that sort of thing, but extremely time consuming.  I have settled on a version that I am mostly happy with now.

My other browser tab, interestingky enough, shows  the Nexus ENB mod called Seasons of Skyrim. The pics, btw, look awesome!... good work.

Thanks Sartoz, Seasons of Skyrim is one of the more popular ENB versions out there.  I tried many but I developed an interest in the whole shader aspect so I ended up doing my own.

@Jaspe84  Patch 6 is currently under beta testing.  Patch 5 is released.

You know, as much as I encourage the Bioware Studio to put out DAI game paches,  DAI will never get anywhere near Skyrim's game immersion. The Modding Community just lifted Skyrim to another level, while EA's  games become just cannon fodder.... a fad, if you will.... hero today, forgotten tomorrow.

Agreed with aMidianborn mods; excellent work. Also am a fan of Better Shaped Weapons for thinner looking swords and improved quivers.

http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/39870/?

Personally, am not a fan of the Difficulty settings in Skyrim; increases simply buff the opponents and nerf the PC. Instead, I leave settings on Adept for fairness, and add Ultimate Combat, Balanced Magic, and High Level Enemies to increase the challenge of all of combat; from unarmed to archery.

As for appearances, Xenius Character Enhancement (ie; XCE) is a must for my modded game. Those are some ugly looking Elves, and this mod makes them a lot more palatable to play in 3rd person, as well as encounter as NPC's.

OK, thanks for the XCE pointer....

Not trying to be antagonistic here, but is that what people are doing?  I got banned for using words the filters had no problems with. It's like I've got my own censor angel following me around. How is thirty posts about another company's game, its mods (gotta love that idiotically tiny armor on big boobed gals is still in vogue) and how to play it have anything to do with Inquisition or the troubles PC folks have with it?  There is no way they're gonna make DA:I remotely like Sky-boring-rim other than in likewise emulating the sheer tediousness of the thing - which they've already accomplished in spades.

They've closed threads for hella less and they sure as hell don't like this one.

Personally, I couldn't give less of a damn if I was paid a million an hour not to give damns.  I just like this thread and would hate to see it go, is all.  Something about giving the wrong folks too much satisfaction if it does.

*Shrug*  Y'all do your will.  Just thought I'd drop a reminder.

There were some pretty good AI mods to adjust difficulty "properly", though i was finally able to handle Legendary.. Although, only when i play my Heavy Sword & Board classes.. Im nither a fan of the way most games claim "difficulty" with it simply being more dmg/hp...  SkyRe, with the addition of a mod, i can longer remember, the enemy AI played much smarter.. They would actually block, and not just continually smack at your shield while blocking, etc.. With SkyRe, that wasnt really an option anyway, but , you get the point.. Wish i could remember its name.. Not Monster mod... hmmm... Ah well.. Itll hit me later, lol

As for discussing DA:I, i thought we were... A Skyrimn discussion was clearly the intent, when they created the game, lol...   :P

@DisturbedJim: Yes.. SMIM, thank you!

I'm with you on not doing any ENB, environment mods and such. I love quest and character mods so much and I don't want to make my modding even harder by dealing with the environment mods.

Well...  is there anything DA:I did right?  What doesn't need to be fixed, but could stand improvement in any future iterations?  We got beta-testies here, maybe they can pass stuff on.  Biowere is supposedly listening, right?

For instance, I'd like the damn Inquisitor to walk faster! He walks like he's storing an extra twenty pounds of equipment up his colon.  I want my swordslinger/rogue version to bolt across the battlefield and slam them Venatori and not putter up to them like some drunken reality show loser.  That's not too much to ask, is it?  They got the dragons right, they did fine with most of their characters (they could have been more, but they can always be more), even a villain or two was worth the effort (although not Corpyphlatulatus, been there, killed that).  The music was good.

Anything y'all can think of?

The look of the enviroments. Some areas are stunning. They could work on putting more story relevance or more intresting content in them. But they have done well with the look. And, less mounts or make them at least useful.

I meant in the context of the thread not necessarily the game, although I do not typically stomach more than about 1 hour at a time in game.  Having played for likely 40-50 hours by now, I am pretty used to the controls and they bother me less.

Random bits:

My right hand still cramps up due to having to hold right mouse to move camera.

I have found that I prefer playing as a Rogue to any other class in DAI.

I don't use the Tac Cam, ever, as I do not find any use for it and not because its bad, just not needed.

I like the astrarium puzzles more than the bulk of the side quests.

I am not liking the UI in general but especially not when it comes to crafting, too many mouse clicks and running around from one station to another.  Also, my memory about what my team needs in terms of upgrades is not necessarily that great, not having access to that information while deciding what upgrade to craft necessitates I leave the "station" to check their gear.

Skyhold is cool but people are all over the place requiring quite a bit of running about to have a chat.  Inclusion of fast travel is the game's remedy but it really doesn't work me.

Spawning algorithm is ... deeply flawed.

Atmosphere (as in weather, mist, etc) is quite well done in my opinion, visually the game looks very good to me with exception of some ambient lighting.  Some stuff in shadows has a few issues, some tree trunks are a good example.

I don't like not having ability to turn off certain hud elements (i.e. enemy auto detect) or quest markers (unless I missed that setting, I confess not looking at settings for quite some time)

I do like the exploring part and there is a pretty hefty level of detail in some areas (i.e. believe it or not, the Exalted Plains the trenches/camps or whatever they should be called, good and abundant clutter)

All in all, its a game and it consumes some of my available idle time.  I don't play it because I feel if I don't I have wasted my money, I play it when I feel like playing it.  What keeps me going is the fact that there are more areas to go wander about it and the main story.  Not going to say its great but it is ok.

Nothing really stands out as being particularly good with possibility of visuals and vast expanse of space.  I think DAI is 1000 miles wide and about 10 feet deep.  I think its a shame that it turned out this way, the game leaves way too much unrealized potential on the table.

All above though is nothing that has not been said at least 100 times already in this thread alone.

Ohh, and I think DAI definitely needs more big boobed gals in idiotically tiny armor just because ... vogue and all.  :D

Each class features some kind of closing in skill if that's what you desire. Rogue has access to that Mortal Kombat Scorpion spear. Magician has that nifty wind walking spell. Warrior has that anime sparkly aura charge ability. The results of using them vary from idiotic to stupendous. Unless of course any of those skills has changed recently.

Things I feel that they did correct without reservation? That question inspires a sickly yet familiar feeling. Beginning a paper. Struggling to get down that first sentence. Assuring myself all the while that only the start is difficult and once it is conquered the rest will come easy... I agree with characters and music. Pretty much everything else in this game has a darker side that eclipses the light for me.

Speaking of Taleworlds. I want to destroy and raid as a viking in M&B but ive heard the viking conquest standalone is very buggy at the moment. Can you confirm that? I did not play M&B yet because i dont like the setting but i could get into the viking thing, big fan of Vikings show btw. Ive seen gameplay videos and i like it.

Viking Conquest IMO is only for the really passionate crowd about Vikings and all that, and it's not "hollywood", it aims to be historically authentic - so no horned helmets or giants with two-handed hammers etc. Just a headsup.

It was very buggy at release yes, however they fixed it very fast post-release. It's stable now, but still some outstanding bugs. I played through the story campaign about a month ago and here are the two bugs I encountered:

- Orders/Tactical menu in battle may disappear randomly depending on your PC. Resolve it by turning it on/off and lowering battlesizer (seems to be worse the larger the battle is)

- In story mode, one of the companions may not join your party - at all. However the game is still playable without the companion.

But it works, at least for me, heh still remember a steam review that said "Everyone come back, it works now" lol

The thing is Viking Conquest was cross-developed by the Brytenwalda mod team as well as Taleworlds. Armagod was quite transparent, apologised and acknowledged the state of the release personally as his responsibility. Plus, they fixed it quite fast, and still fixing it. I just hope Taleworlds go back to closed public betas (as with M&B and Warband), VC's release state better not happen for M&B2.

Either than that, it's a solid DLC IMO, I found the story better than expected along with the companions, you also have animated hairs now, and the naval combat is great too. And as can be expected - the usual joys of M&B gameplay.

But, here's my complaints:

- Too historical; all weapons/armors are too authentic, to the point variety can be lacking - however, you may appreciate this.

- Ships also too authentic, and longships are narrow; so with most longship vessels you may have trouble moving from one end of the ship to the other (just go get the biggest ship you can get and make it your flagship ASAP) due to collision.

All in all, it's a DLC, I still recommend you play M&B Warband first to learn the systems before diving into VC.

Patch 5 is out now. Patch 6 is undergoing beta testing. If it was the Black Emporium you were waiting for, that was not included in patch 5, only beta tested with patch 5 and, will be released later this year.
