Did anyone actually buy this game because of the line

"PC game for PC gamers"?

Am i the only one who realizes how much you have to fit the hipster PC gamer stereotype to actually be attracted by that line?

I personally never saw that statement until long after the game was released. But one has to admit that the slap in the face from it does sting a little.

I would have bought the game anyway, even without the video. If I knew it was going to be a console port though (like KOTOR/JE) instead of marketed as a PC game, I would have just canceled the pre-order and waited for either a good port or a reduction in price so I won't feel ripped off. Heck, I played KOTOR/JE years after release anyway, since they were Xbox exclusives so I just forgot about them for a while.

Regardless of that, I trusted Bioware to have industry standard post-release support, not EA's budget post-release support. So I didn't refund within 24 hours. I had no idea 5 months later it would still be a console port, with the team struggling to shoehorn PC controls and interface. Then to have to deal with the fan/dev disconnect. The whole experience has been frustrating enough to destroy 16 years of loyalty.

Anyway it's old news, on ATW/WL2, soon to get on POE, and then on TW3 this year, whole line up of good games, the first 3 PC games, the later, well, will have to see. Regardless there is a 30 day refund policy, unlike EA's 24 hr refund policy, or steams no-refund policy. TW3 already won with its DRM-free stance.

Of note in particular... out of all of the posts they put up- how many do you see them using a keyboard and mouse? Goes to show what their "priorities" really are.

None.

The only time we EVER saw any dev play with a KB&M was when Mike Laidlaw did it in a twitch stream...and you could see the displeasure written all over his face.

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I did just that.

That line gave me absolute confidence that buying the PC version was the right move and I went ahead and upgraded my PC with a new graphics card.

What I missed to notice, however, was that on the game box it said "Keyboard and mouse not officially supported".

Oh wait, no, it didn't say that!!!

Bioware was even promoting the PC version with a special edition KB&M set! A GAMING Keyboard & Mouse set! Can you believe it? They promote this kind of stuff KNOWING that their game at launch will not even support re-mapping a single command to a mouse button. NOT. ONE. SINGLE. BUTTON.

So they KNOWINGLY mis-advertise their game and also get people to buy peripherals that is not even properly supported. Poor sods who fell for that...

And then, only after a massive **** storm on this forum, do they make an effort to fix this, which they also mostly **** up.

I spit on that!

Hi,

I found this interview with Chris Avellone on Kotaku really interesting :

...because Avellone is "tired of designing content and interactions that caters to consoles and console controllers."

"Those limitations affect RPG mechanics and content more than players may realize (especially for players who've never played a PC RPG and realize what's been lost over the years), and often doesn't add to the RPG experience," he told me.

Well, at least we know now...

JPR out!

When will mid to high-end pc/ with multi-gpu (sli/crossfire) be addressed?

When will the directx and mantle crashes be addressed?

When will sli/crossfire texture flickering [i.e. z(ed)-fighting] be addressed?

When will draw distance issues be addressed?

When will resource misallocation / over-allocation be addressed?

When will page-filing [Currently up to 20GB] be addressed?

When will game be nVidia GPU and multi-gpu friendly?

When will pc version actually be optimized for PC?

When will x60 versions of nVidia (i.e. 460, 560, 660, 760, including Ti versions) GPU issues be addressed?

When will game, actually be playable for the hundreds if not thousands of people who cant play the game yet, even after 4 1/2 months?

And why the heck do we have to pay for another DLC, when those of us who pre-ordered and pre-purchased the Deluxe version should be getting it for free?

And for those of us (those aforementioned players who still can't even play the game yet) have to pay for another DLC when the game still crashes to to desktop, more often then not, and still have stuttering, lag, hangs, long load times, things popping in AFTER the scene renders, and just general bad performance regardless of fidelity settings?

Why the F*** are you adding DLC, before fixing the base game?

Concerning SLi, I found out that the standard settings nvidia gives you has 4 Gpu's allocated .. If you go deeper into the games profile with Nvidia Inpector (DL from Guru3D.com) and look at the setting called "NVIDIA predefined number of GPUs to use on SLI rendering mode on Directx10" wich is for everything DX10 and up .. Is set to "SLI_PREDEFINED_GPU_COUNT_DX10_FOUR".. Changed it to the correct amount for my system wich is "SLI_PREDEFINED_GPU_COUNT_DX10_TWO" (2x660's)  Since ive done that .. No more DX Crashes...

Still works for me 6 patches and 4 drivers later..
I also force Vsync off and hardcap the Framerate on half my Refresh around 78.. Been crashfree ever since no matter the graphics settings ingame.

I just want a patch that stops my game stuttering and stopping when in heavily populated areas.  Being in Skyhold, for example, is terrible.  Everything stops and starts and hangs.  It's enough to make me wish I'd gone bought a console version (which I still suspect is the reaction Bioware want), except that I LIKE playing on my PC, dammit!  :(

Sadly, no amount of patching can ever compensate for hardware problems. Such is the nature of PC gaming.

They marketed this game as a PC game

They said Origins fans would love it, that it was return to glory for DAO fans that were unhappy with DA2. They said the PC platform was their main focus.

I was going through some of the devs posts that are on this thread, and one of them, Allan, was pretty much clear he preferred to play games with controller, fine with that, but then with his posts it was made very much clear that they have not given much attention to the PC and that since 4 platforms were going to be using controls, their focus was on that.

I would be fine if they didn't give me hope that this was going to be a game PC gamers were going to be very pleased with. It almost feels like betrayal.

I refuse to run DAI in its current state! I have Neverwinter and PoE to keep me happy. I will never get Jade Empire because I know who had his grubby little hands in that.

I am just getting out of Ostagar as we speak! Yay! I ran DAI last month before Patch 6 came out. Read the Patch notes, saw the writing on the wall, played Neverwinter while waiting for Pillars, It is light years ahead.

I too went and bought a Razer mouse and keyboard. Upgraded my graphics card then watched Laidlaw and Lee trying to play Inquisition using a KB/M. Painful to watch.

There is no other word to describe it. He knew exactly what he had designed. He is the Lead Designer, it is not EA! He has never shown his face on this forum.

It was knowing betrayal, which makes it worse.

So I'm still experiencing crashes to Desktop, one of the many new secret features that crept into the game since the release of the latest Patch.

Is there a fix available for it? I'm currently playing in Windowed-Fullscreen mode.

I won't risk trying to continue playing for a little while, I'll just toggle around in the character creator.

Spoiler

But yeah, any fixes/work-arounds would be lovely.

If you have the latest drivers for Nvidia, they cause crashes. I had to roll back mine to the previous version. That's the only crashing problem I've ran into on my system.

That is not entirely true.

It would be ignorant to believe that the Nvidia drivers alone are to blame for crashes.

I also have the latest driver 347.88 and my game is rock solid. So how come my game does not crash at all?

Because hardware plays a BIG role here. I'm not dismissing the fact that the game CAN be very unstable, but this is partly due to Frostbite 3.

You also have to consider PC cooling, the use of SLI (which is a bit of a joke in general), processor power, RAM, version of Windows etc etc.

I have a fairly modest, but capable PC and I am having NO performance issues at all!

So clearly, there are many more factors to consider. Too many variables to be pointing a finger at a single component.

There's not on my system. I installed new drivers, the game started crashing. I rolled them back, no more crashing, at all. It may help the person, it may not. So it's entirely true, for my system.

Poor, little, naive me. I pre-ordered after hearing that.

But no one ever accused me of being a hipster yet. I just wanted to believe.

The UI seems to be more controller oriented, not so comfortable with KB&M as was in DAO/2.

For me, the 15.3 beta seem to work fine.  I'm using DirectX11 though. Mantle has severe issues for me but that might be due to APU.

was using DX11 also though maybe its because in using 2 R9 290's in Crossfire I'll try reverting to the omega drivers see if it reoccurs

Yeah, very possible crossfire profile is broken for AMD.. I don't think SLI for Nvidia works properly yet either.

I've been thinking about uninstalling DAI  but I think I just like troubleshooting it, moreso then actually playing it.  It's only 30 gigs on hard drive..

Finally some good news has risen from the depths of the internet!!

For other users who may have been experiencing difficulties playing the game due to Direct X crashes and other random CTD's when using a Nvidia GPU, Try this solution....

This is the first solution that has actually resolved the problem for me. Yes after 6 months I can finally play the game, and here's hoping you can too!

Step 1:
Open Nvidia Control Panel, then go to Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings tab > Select Dragon Age Inquisiton from the drop-down box.

Step 2:

The settings you want to adjust are as follows.
Maximum pre-rendered frames = 1
Multi-Display/mixed-gpu acceleration = single display performance mode
Power management mode = prefer maximum performance
Vertical Sync = adaptive

Don't forget to save these settings by hitting the apply button in the bottom right corner.

Step 3:

Run the game. At the in-game settings menu set it to full screen (not windowed) mode and uncheck vsync,

Step 4:

Profit!

Important: For this fix to work you must set the game to full screen mode and not windowed full screen mode.
